Montague Inn Bed & Breakfast

It is an absolutely beautiful venue. It was wonderfully decorated for Christmas. The bed was comfortable as was the room. It was the Sunday after Thanksgiving. When we arrived no one was around so we called the number left on the desk. It took him about 5-10 minutes to get to us. When we got to the room (3rd floor, no elevator) it was VERY cold. We looked for a thermostat and found none. I tried to turn on one of the bedside lights and it wouldn’t come on. We called the gentleman who had given us the key and he said he would be right over. After waiting over 30 minutes we left and went out to dinner. When we returned he had not come and fixed the light so I crawled around until I found it was unplugged. We tried to call again with no one answering. We went out in the hall and found a thermostat and turned it from 65 to 70. Our room finally warmed enough that we could sleep but not sure it was ever 70degrees. There is a lovely fireplace in the room but no batteries in the remote starter.

It's a lovely property, nice to sit outside by the river and enjoy the grounds (which are sizable). Back patio is lovely with flowers and nice lighting. It's a BnB, so older furnishings, antiques and old books are featured throughout the property. It took a bit of time to get hot water to the shower (which was fun trying to figure out!)...but a unique home with plenty of character, so that's part of the experience! The staff were polite, friendly and knowledgeable. We'll stay again!

Charming place and I was given the green light to explore any room with an open door. I don’t know how many rooms and bathrooms there are in this grand old mansion, but there are a lot!! The grounds—sitting right on the river? Heaven! Loved my room and the delicious breakfast, and the staff were amazing!

We stopped for a mid-week one night stay. Only a couple other people were staying there and it felt like we had the whole place (17 rooms total) to ourselves. They have peaceful grounds along a river and a great patio just behind the historic house. The staff was friendly and informative. Japanese Gardens and a children's zoo are a short walk down the street (sidewalks all the way!) They offer a full hit breakfast if there are four or more rooms occupied, so we lucked out! Breakfast was fresh, hot and a step above most "continental breakfasts" you receive at chain hotels. We would happily stay here again!

Handicap, elevator not operable.. Was upgraded to room 1st floor(good), but was freezing cold(bad). Reminded me of my job, cutting meat in a refrigerated cooler.

Went to Saginaw/ Frankenmuth/Detroit for business trip and mini vacation since I had to be there. This is a gorgeous turn of the century mansion with plenty of parking and nice quiet area. Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great- a continental and some eggs, sausage and potatoes. Christmas decor was beautiful.

Our room was very nice, we were in the carriage house. The rooms are decorated great and very comfortable and spacious. The Montague was a beautiful place to say grounds are amazing with flower gardens and right on the river the breakfast we had in the morning also was very good And the staff was wonderful

We enjoyed staying in a 1929 Mansion the flowers were fantastic the breakfast was fantastic I would like to see more benches and statues on the land and a clean view to the river ! I would stay over and over again it would just make walking a lil more relaxing thank you Sandy

This inn had old world charm. Very clean and quiet. It was a short but pleasant stay.

I was amazed at the beautiful historic building we got to stay in. I had seen pictures, but in person, it took my breath away! I love all things old and historic and this fit the bill! Made me wish I was born a hundred years ago! I loved it! Breakfast was yummy, everything was clean and well kept. Beautifully decorated for fall. It was quiet and we even met some amazing people also staying and quickly became friends. I have never stayed at a B&B before and this was definitely a positive experience! I recommend!!!

Clean, comfortable room. Loved the hotel itself and historic feel. Didn't get the experience some others did of staff sharing about the history of the building which I would have been interested to hear, or any interest in me as a customer despite them not being busy that night at all.

When we checked in at 8pm the innkeeper was busy, but easy to contact via phone. Our room was on the 3rd floor which wasn’t as bad to walk up to as I feared. The room was cozy and the beds were made with sheets, a thin blanket and a thin quilt so they were comfortable and in the style of the home. At night the twin beds were quite creaky, even just to sit down or turn over, but it didn’t keep us awake. We had water bottles and candy left on the vanity for us, and all the necessary toiletries in the bathroom. Although our bathroom was not attached. It was very close and easy to access. I was honestly surprised at how clean the bedroom and bathroom were! I expected a bit of dust here and there with the age of the home, but it was very well-kept. For breakfast we had pancakes, sausage patties, scrambled eggs and diced potatoes. They also offered fruit, yogurt, and different bread items. There was also hot coffee, milk, orange juice and a selection of tea bags. The staff were very kind, but also not too invasive. We only stayed one night and did not get to do much exploring in the area. I would have loved to spend more time sitting in the garden at the property or seeing the Japanese garden just a few lots away!

Beautiful, unique building, rooms, and grounds. The room had extras you don’t always find, including free bottled water, little candy bars, and robes. Our room was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful, even when we arrived after check-in hours.

The house itself is quite lovely and the woman at the desk was welcoming. The room was full of antiques but it really really needs modernizing. The bathroom is really old and was not clean. The curtain in the bathroom was dirty, the bath mat was really dirty and some of the furniture was super dusty. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was ok. The only reason we stayed here was because everything else was booked up because of the car show in Frankenmuth.

It gave a very at home vibe , which is nice. I know its historical but the stains around the place was too much. It was clean and smelled nice. But there was too many stains on the curtains and pillow cases and carpet.please clean. No other complans the host was very welcoming and very helpful .i work night shift so when i check out noon is sometimes too early . So i asked about late check out and he gave me an extra hour which was nice . I would visit in the future. Thanks

room was a little dirty, wasn't told it was on the 3rd floor without an elevator and the bathroom wasn't connected to the room. Nice place and people just don't book the Burt Room.

Very nice stay. Clean and well kept. Not the fault of the B&B but if you have loud neighbors it sounds like they are in the room with you. Overall very pleased with our stay. Would recommend

The only complaint I have is the radiator heat was too high and it made the room very hot and dry very quickly. I ended up sleeping with the door open to even out the temperature. Overall, very clean and cute place to stay.

Quiet and very well kept exterior. The room I had was nice but needs updating for use of computers, IPAD AND IPHONE CHARGING.

No sink in the bathroom. Hot water cold, cold water hot. No control for air conditioning.

Very cool place with an intriguing history. Well maintained. Two things that are needed is better television service (that was a convoluted mess) and a REFRIGERATOR.

The property was what I expected a one hundred year old mansion to be. The wifi was hit or miss. The breakfast was hot but it was no better thank a hotel breakfast. I dont know what I was expecting but at a bed and BREAKFAST I expected more. The bed was comfortable but squeeky. The patio in the back was nice to sit at after supper and look at the nicely kept grounds and watch the fire flies. I would stay here agian.

The room was very hot and didn't have air conditioning, unheard of these days. I tried to contact the front desk, left a message, but no one ever called back.

The grounds of the property are beautiful. The rooms are beautiful as well. I was booked in the carriage house, which I found out upon arrival. That was fine except the a/c was almost nonexistent during 95 degree weather. The lighting was very poor in the room also, with only one lamp, nothing else. Upon checkout I mentioned the a/c issue and was told I should have said something and they may have been able to move me. I was all unpacked and settled in for two days, hoping the situation would improve. I was not willing to pack up and be relocated. A discount or return credit would have been a more suitable offer. Would I stay here again? Yes because the price was right and the main house was beautiful. But I would be sure to indicate that I do not want to be in the carriage house.

Knowing that often an inn or B&B will have limited check in hours, I called ahead to ask about their policy. I was reassured that arriving late would be no problem, and I received instructions. So we finally got there around 10:20pm, followed the instructions to call the innkeeper back the front desk. I did not realize at the time that the lady I had talked to was no longer on call as she thought she’d be. Someone else was there instead. So after attempting to call the innkeeper on duty about 10 times, we eventually got checked in around 11:00pm. And even though we were so exhausted, I still wasn’t tired enough to sleep much on the terrible mattress. The breakfast was okay, but served buffet style and overcooked. The property and grounds were the best thing about the place. Maybe we caught them on an off night…not sure. It was just not a great experience.

Staff was friendly and accommodating, peaceful areas to walk/relax (property has been used for weddings).

The property is old and in need of updates and a refresh. I was unable to control the temperature in my room as it is centrally controlled (it blew cold air all night). The staff were friendly and accomodating. I can see the owners are trying to make the best of what they have so the intent of this review is not to find fault but to be transparent.

When I arrived I was able to walk around the property and the house. The doors were open to any rooms that were not checked into so I got to explore. My room was a little warm but it is an old house and a fan was provided. The staff was friendly and eager to provide information about the house and area activities. Breakfast was good and easily accessible. I even got to see the secret closet and hidden doorway. I would recommend a stay.

Really liked the nostalgia of the building. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again if I'm in the area.

Beautiful property, good location. A little dated but that's what I found attractive about it. Very helpful and friendly staff. If you want something different that the standard ordinary hotel room, this is the place for you. Would definitely go back.

This place seems to be owned by a cult leader, which was unexpected and a little creepy. There's a statue of him next to Socrates in the front 🙄, and a bunch of his vapid quotes posted everywhere. We wondered if we were going to be kidnapped overnight, put into white robes, and brainwashed. 😅 That didn't happen, thankfully, and overall it was a pleasant stay. The grounds are beautiful, although everything seems to be in need of some light renovation--paint is peeling, doors are sticking, etc. And the decoration style seems to have been lifted straight out of a 1985 Better Homes & Gardens magazine... it was like stepping back in time! The room was comfortable, and the water pressure was really good. The most concerning thing I noticed was that the room didn't have a fire alarm or sprinklers. I thought those were required for fire safety, since usually you see them everywhere... but I don't know. Maybe codes are different in Michigan. We took a walk from the hotel to a downtown type area by the river, where there are shops and restaurants. The ambience was pleasant. There aren't a lot of shop options, but it's a small town, so you can't expect everything. It was a beautiful walk, though. The few hotel workers we met were kind and friendly. Overall, despite being a bit run down, the place seems to be decent. I'm not sure I would come back if I had the opportunity, but I did enjoy the stay.

The history of the B&B was very interesting. The historical elements that are still in tack is amazing. The owners are good caretakers of the property. Also very convenient location to Frankenmuth.

Delightful! The Montague is a Beautiful location with very helpful staff! We needed a place near the hospital, and the inn is quite close.

Very nice B&B with excellent breakfast.

The breakfast on Saturday and Sunday are suppose to be hot meals, even with the warmers burning under them the food was still cold.

The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The bed was super comfortable and breakfast was excellent.

Everything about the Inn was lovely, except for the breakfast. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the room and bed were comfortable. But the reason we stay at B&B's generally is for the breakfast. Every single B&B we've stayed at has had a special gourmet breakfast. This breakfast was chafing dishes with scrambled eggs, sausage patties, cubed potatoes and pancakes; cold cereal options, toaster and bags of bread. Basically a common hotel breakfast. Adequate, but nothing special.

Dislike breakfast hour. 8 am to 10 am. The window time is not good for those that have to leave early

Very easy check-in and delicious breakfast.

The place is beautiful. The grounds were excellent. The b&b itself is comfortable, clean and well kept. The beds are very comfortable. Couldn’t heat any other guests and a lot were staying there. What I had issues with, and why it’s a middle of the road review: -spotty wifi, no TV -cold and you can’t adjust the temperature -first b&b I ever went to that had buffet style breakfast and not something made to order -the food was meh (think Hampton inn) but most importantly, the eggs had a funky taste (aluminum?) and was it from the food containers? -they left tip trays out. For a buffet. And for blah food. I never even thought of tipping for the breakfast portion of a b&b.
