Atlantic Hotel Newquay

At first glance the hotel looks quiet impressive however shortly upon arrival discovered we had no wi-fi in our room, reported it to reception, and when we checked out 3 days later we still didn't have any. The restaurant has a limited selection of generic food with nothing particularly special, and be wary of the breakfast scam - we booked breakfast as part of the stay yet were informed we had to pay for it ontop of already paying more as part of out booking. The only saving grace for the property is the walkability/proximity to the city centre and the indoor and outdoor pool area, sauna and hot tub, which although they did cost, was well worth it. Overall a decent-ish hotel that could be improved by better service/communication, though certainly not worth the price charged.

The lift was often not working, didn’t bother us too much except when we had to carry our luggage down 2 flights of stairs. The indoor pool was on the chilly side, but everything else was lovely.

The hotel may well have been 5* when the Titanic set sail and im sure some of the images were taken shortly after. There was a lovely chap working there who helped us no end and was incredibly plesent to deal with. Rest of the staff were OK. We had a room by the outdoor pool, it looks nothing like the pictures what so ever and the weather wasnt great so we didnt use it to be fair. We never ate their so cant comment on the food. The Spa, is average. Jacuzzi, Steam and Sauna only fit two people and the pool is quiet shallow and small but it did us for an hour while it was raining. Free parking and location were the best things about our stay. The Tapas at the bottom of the road and handful of indie cafes were amazing as was the fish restaurant on the beach (not Rick Stein)

The hotel has spectacular views and is located well for Fistral Beach. The young woman on reception on day of arrival ( 28/4/25 ) was welcoming, helpful and energised ( thank you ). The hotel itself is a little tired and dated. I was hoping to use the outside pool as the weather was beautiful ; was told it wasnt open - it opens ' seasonally '. There needs to be specific months stated on the website as to when it opens / closes please. There was nowhere in either bar to watch national sporting events on tv in the evening so i went out to eat and drink instead of staying in the bar / dining area. Breakfast was adequate, room was clean and had everything i needed - Thank you. ,

Filthy bathroom on arrival. Filthy skirting boards-thick with dust on arrival. Wall behind loo, radiator and bin all splattered with something on arrival. Had to ask for the room to be cleaned. After cleaning, and the bin changed, the radiator was still filthy. See photo. I could write my name in the dust on bathroom blind. Had to ask for the carpet to be hoovered. We had a dead Fly on Window cill for four days. The balcony filthy. We requested it to be cleaned so that we could sit outside. It wasn’t cleaned so we couldn’t use it as the seats, floor and sceeening was covered in bird pooh and dirt. The receptionist said we needed to pay £20 per guest to use the outdoor pool as we hadn’t booked direct. We were not advised of this in advance from Expedia. We checked all our paperwork. So the hotel waived this but we only stayed at the pool for 15 minutest as it was filthy. Actually it is the worst hotel pool I have ever seen. The pool had scum around the edge. It needed cleaning throughout from top to bottom. The sun beds were rusty, and had loads of pooh on. Some were split. Outrageously disgusting. Hotel lift kept breaking down. The receptionist thought this was funny. Bathroom tap had an end fitting missing so consequently it kept squirting on the floor.

We had a great stay. We particularly liked the food, views and quirky decor. The breakfast room is absolutely stunning and it was wonderful to have a breakfast cooked to order, alongside a buffet, and eat it looking at the spectacular view. Our room was beautiful, also with an incredible sea view and baby seagulls in a nest directly outside. We had a delicious dinner in the restaurant one night too. Our only complaint would be the uncomfortable furniture in the dining room and that the bar wasn't open. We would've loved to have dinner in the breakfast room. I suspect more facilities are open in high season. I would 100% stay there again. We really loved it.

Very disappointing to be told at check in that the sauna and steam room were both out of order after having booked the hotel for these facilities. Hotel then charged me twice for the room and it has taken numerous calls to the hotel to resolve and get reimbursed. On the more positive, my room was very comfortable and spacious, parking is free and the hotel location is great, but the disappointment with the spa and hassle with the payment being taken twice has put me off coming back.

We enjoyed our stay at the Atlantic. The room was lovely withe a sea view. We also had a balcony with two chairs to sit outside and watch the sun go down. Very clean bathroom with a bath and separate shower. The breakfast was lovely with plenty to eat. The pool was very clean and warm, with a lovely sea view.

This was a 1 night stay for a family funeral in the area. After having stayed here 9 years previous we decided to re book. We were unable to open the front door on arrival due to the door getting stuck. The ceilings on the way to our room looked like the hotel had several leaks in various area which had been left and not repaired. Our room was dirty on arrival with what looked like a years worth of dust on the lights, bulbs not working, balcony locked as unsafe and rings from previous occupants cup on side cabinet. I spoke to reception who gave us complimentary coffee with our meal in the hotel restaurant (the food was lovely). I could deal with the above for 1 night but thw main issue was when we went to bed. The pillows although they had clean lining, smelt of sweaty people, the TV is in a strange place with poor visivility from the bed, the room was unbearably hot, there was a stong stench of fishy amonia coming from the toilet in the morning before it was flushed numerous times and to cap it off no conditioner in the complimetary toiletries. Breakfast was lovely, views amazing and the staff friendly but I would not book again.

Having read previous reviews, arrived with an open mind. Yes the building exterior does look grubby. It is on a headland and battered by the elements. Issues: limited breakfast. No fresh berries, nuts, pastries often ran out. Slowest toaster in the world! Already over £16 and then extra for kippers/salmon. Silks again a limited menu. Most worrying was a chef that kept smoothing over his hair and not washing his hands after. Bedroom a good size. More drawers needed. Shower door seal broken, controls difficult to turn (think proper handles missing), shower door handle missing. Towels often stained. Pillow cases were stained. Tea tray not replenished on two days. Cobwebs on ceiling, thick dust under sink in bathroom. Slowest lift in the world. Directional signage poor e.g. to indoor/outdoor pools, to reception if you enter by Silks door First impressions were good. Lacking in attention to detail.

Only stayed for 2nights but shower gel and drinking water not replenished and there were a few stains on the carpet. Screw caps missing on the bath panel and exposed rawlplugs where something had once been on the wall. Slight mould patches on the bath and around edges of windows. Overall nothing major and it didn’t detract from my stay but for £200 per night I think these simple issues should be addressed. It would probably take 15 minutes to address all of the points raised. Don’t be put off by these comments as it is a very nice place to stay and I will probably be back next year.

Brilliant stay from check in staff so friendly and informative . Lovely indoor pool so warm and clean. Outdoor pool heated and perfect for a few lengths and sunbathing beside pool. We were allocated a poolside room which was huge and had a large bed so comfortable, spotless towels and bedding. Hard to believe the complaints some people put on reviews. They pick on things that are not really important and probably worse in their own homes. We were allocated a poolside room which was very quiet. People should remember it’s been a hard few years for the hospitality sector. Breakfast is lovely in a beautiful setting with sea views. We had dinner in the restaurant on our last night. Service was great ,not rushed very relaxing and food was delicious. The Marlborough Sauvignon was very chilled and good quality. Will definitely recommend and be returning soon hopefully

Beautiful hotel inside. our room was a great size views were fantastic. Loved the stairs very grand staff all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast room was wonderful very clean views fantastic.

The hotel was well situated and beautifully positioned to see the sea far and wide. Easy access to Newquay town centre just a gentle stroll away. The room was beautiful well maintained and clean, all the interactions with staff were great. We didn’t actually eat at the hotel so can’t make comment on that. We made use of the indoor pool and steam room and sauna which was included in our stay and lovely. We didn’t use the heated outdoor pool in comparison this was a little lack lustre it definitely needs a refresh. The parking was easy and free for guests.

Really enjoyed the stay, staff were helpful, polite and efficient. Fantastic vista from the hotel and room. The interior was clean, well maintained and beautifully decorated. As was the indoor swimming pool. Some broken tiles in my bathroom was the only negative. Breakfast was nicely cooked with plenty of choice. Easy access to Fistral beach and Newquay.

We were staying two nights for a wedding. The rooms are quite warm and window only opens so much. Unfortunately our balcony was closed off and outside was scaffolding and broken bits of wood etc. then while trying to get ready for the wedding two builders walked past our windows and commenced work! We weren’t warned of this and were not able to be moved room.

Great location; easy check in; fabulous pool hot tub area with amazing view; great room with perfect view out onto the sea. What is there not to love you say …. No access to balcony so couldn’t use it Not told that there was a wedding going on so weren’t able to have a drink in the bar nor eat in the restaurant after 7 so when you’re only here for one night it’s disappointing

Great location up high over the harbor, looking out to sea. Inside very elegant but not in good shape, worn sofas, peeling paint. Room very nice but unable to access the deck. Quite hot inside with limited ability to open the window. Night porter Darren saved me from missing my flight to London by going above board to call another taxi when mine did not show up. Many kudos.

It was a long weekend - stayed in the poolside apartments which had no aircon / and were extremely hot - the staff did give us a fan when we asked and then changed the fridge that didnt work to a new one which did work. Would recommend staying in main hotel.

Hotel is lovely and Grand . Staff very welcoming and friendly Room needs refurbishing as damp patches on wall and we reserved a room with a balcony but it was inaccessible due to ongoing refurbishment at hotel . We were not told this before we arrived and paid for a sea view with balcony so it was extremely disappointing when we were told we could not use the balcony

It was an amazing room, but unbearably hot, fortunately we asked for a portable fan which was delivered to our room and made it very comfortable then. The indoor pool and spa were unusable due to the unbearable heat in the room and the outdoor pool wasn’t open early or late enough for us to use. Beautiful hotel otherwise.

Hotel is well located with great views off the ocean and only a short walk to town but you will need to negotiate a step hill to do so. We were in room 302 on the third floor there is a lift , room was clean but not very well maintained , shower did not work , fridge did not work , and we could only get one channel on the TV , towels and robes were supplied Staff were friendly and polite and very helpful , breakfast was okay standard fare and very well cooked but the choice of a hot breakfast was quite limited without having to pay a supplement for the other items on offer I am sure this was a one off but my wife also found a piece of plastic in her eggs whist eating

Only complaint was we booked a double bed and got 2 single beds pushed together, which was a little uncomfortable

Was disappointed with 2 aspects of our stay. The Bar. Even though it was advertised and on the card handed to us on arrival the bar opening times were 12pm-11pm. The bar did not open until 5pm. We arrived back at the hotel, after a lovely day exploring Cornwall, at 4.15pm and enquired about the bar and was told it wasn't open until 5pm. The mem ber didnt offer to open the bar and as the resturant was closed we had to go out for refreshments in Newquay. The resturant in the evenings was also closed which again we were not informed until our arrival which meant we had to go and find a suitable resturant in Newquay. We were looking forward to a lovely meal in the hotel but was very disappointed having to go out in the cold. The hotel was very nice and comfortable but couldn't appreciate it fully as for the reasons above. Staff very pleasant and welcoming.

Fantastic hotel with fantastic staff, makes for a highly enjoyable stay, nothing is ever too much trouble for them.

Two day stay..front desk could be tighter. Asking for a taxi to go to the airport seemed to be a challenge. Paying for breakfast prior to having it was also a bit tacky.

Me and my partner had the best experience staying at the Atlantic, it was our first times visiting Newquay, and the hotel was equally as great to be in as the town and beaches were. The staff were very friendly, reliable, and always helpful with queries and issues, the upkeep and servicing of our room were always done in a very smart and efficient way, and all the facilities around the hotel were very easy to use and very beneficial to the stay as well. There wasn’t a single bad thing that either of us could say about the hotel really because we really did have the best time, and hopefully if a chance does come around to come back, we definitely will do so without any hesitation.

Overall staff were good although I was met with the breakfast staff without cheer - I would have anticipated this was normal except the couple who joined the breakfast room behind me were met with a much warmer welcome and offered drinks and pastries from the buffet which was not offered to me - Breakfast order was incomplete when delivered. Room was average, bed was very comfy and it was quiet although very dated inside. Blinds were inoperable and the shower was terrible. Scalding hot or freezing cold were the 2 options. Drink from the bar was at the high end of the price and had a strange taste, I didn't have another. I had high hopes for this as I normally stay within sight of the Atlantic and thought I'd have a more expensive night.

I was very impressed with the hotel, the only downside, hence only 4* was the bed. The mattress seemed to slope from head to feet with a dip just below pillow level. This felt very strange and I only managed to rectify it by sleeping in reverse, head where feet should be and feet where head should be. All staff were very polite and friendly, but a special mention about Jamie in the reception area is required for his attention to detail, constant helpfulness and every so friendly personality. A credit to him and very much a benefit to the hotel.

The hotel was built around 125 years ago and therefore could be described as a little quirky, all of which adds to the character of the hotel. Our experience of the staff was lovely, very friendly and willing to help with any questions. We would definitely visit again

The hotel sits in about the best location in Newquay, overlooking the town and the sea. The hotel itself is an imposing older building and is absolutely gorgeous inside, the room I had was a great size with a very comfortable bed. All the staff are very friendly and amazing with nothing too much trouble for them to sort out. This is the first time I've stayed here but it won't be the last.

This is a good value hotel in an excellent location. Staff were very friendly and the room was a generous size. Restaurant food was of a good standard and fast delivered. Pros: - staff - location and views - free parking - good value Cons: - slightly mixed condition of balcony - sea gull noise (but you expect this by the sea tbh) Summary: Very friendly hotel in an excellent location. Would stay again if in the area.

Room ok , breakfast delicious, staff ok, that's where it ends, advertise AA rosette restaurant, don't believe it, menu was small unimaginative and expensive how is it rosette, fish & chips, burger and a couple of very expensive dishes , that's it, the wine list is a laugh, fine wines, not, there was nothing on the list for anyone who didn't like Sauvignon blanc, the head waiter , we assumed he was & trying to tell us that a mcguigan wine was fine, very expensive and one we knew from our local supermarket, he tried but we know wines as have worked with many a fine wine over the years, don't be fooled by this bloke, he needs training in wine & people skills, once we said no to the wine he didn't want to know, we had water with our meal as refused to pay £35-40 for a wine that we could of got from the local Forecourt garage down the road. It's a bit like faulty towers with attitude, such a shame as this place could be quite special, we knew how bad it was when we booked for dinner on a Friday night & we are the only ones there, red flag but we couldn't face the walk into town from this place that is situated away from anywhere decent. Our room had an obvious plumbing problem as the sink gurgled all day & night, we were just waiting to see what was washed up every time this happened, the maintenance man has his work cut out here, it's an old delapidated building that needs a lot of money spent on it, so much empty space which could be used better, no bar open, just miserable.

We stayed for three nights whilst visiting friends in the area. First impressions are good, it is a huge hotel with lots of different rooms and halls which were unfurnished bearing in mind this was a few days after new year so probably with festivities over were no longer being used. The staff were very friendly and helpful, some of the hotel and room were a little tired and in need of refurbishment but clean and tidy. Evening dinner in the Silk bar was fine except being such a large room it was quite cold even with heating on, although we asked for it to be turned up it made little difference and made for a less than comfortable evening. The saving grace was the breakfast room, much more comfortable and nicely furnished, with every type of breakfast food available, with magnificent views over the ocean, such a nice experience, this was far more preferable to the Silk restaurant. All in all, a pleasant experience had it been a little warmer it would have made all the difference.

It was a lovely stay. Some parts of the hotel needed a bit of attention, but I would return, no doubt. I love the fact it’s an independent hotel. We ate in each night on our 3 night stay, and the quality of the food was fantastic. Also the quality of the bar staff and the reception staff checking in and out. Can’t fault any of them.

I wish they would change there menu for the evening meal is the same all week

A lovely hotel overlooking the sea. Elegant decor which gave the hotel a sophisticated feel. Our room was large and comfortable. The lift was faulty when we were there but assistance was offered with suitcases. Table service at breakfast accompanied with a buffet of cereal, breads and fruit. A little disappointed that there was a supplement to be paid for fish having already paid extra when booking breakfast. Overall a very nice stay.
