Stayed 1 night

Last night, my husband and I stayed at The Red Roof Inn in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. In our 50 years of traveling around the world, it was our worst hotel stay ever. Details: 1). Even though I was wearing a visible medical boot, no mention of “no hotel elevator” until AFTER I checked in. I therefore had to painfully climb 2 flight of stairs. 2). In 85 degree weather, the A/C didn’t work properly. 3). There was NO soap on the bathroom counter NOR in the shower. When I asked the desk clerk for a bar of soap, he replied: “Sorry, housekeeping is closed and I don’t have the key”. 4). Breakfast was pathetic! The coffee was undrinkable - it was the poorest, cheapest quality we have ever tasted. We spit it out! Stale white bread, no butter, no hard boiled eggs (is usually customary at Continental Breakfast). And so on. 5). Adding insult to injury, the clerk quoted me a price of $75 for the room before realizing I had already paid through Hotels.com. So we over-paid $25 for a hotel room from hell. 6). Although we could have been moved to another room, my Husband was already sleeping, after driving 12 hours from Southwest Florida. 7). Basic accommodations would have been acceptable. However, this room was below acceptable human standards - a nightmare!

True honesty review… you can tell the place had been renovated and upgraded in some areas. Front desk and dining area very nice. Rooms very nice. Hallway needs upgrade. The hallway had a small dank smell but it was most likely because it still had carpet. The room… very nice. Very roomy. Very clean. Only 3 issues with the stay. . 1. The fridge did not work in our room but that didn’t bother me. 2. The box spring in my room needs to be replaced. The bed was still comfortable though. 3. The breakfast selection was very limited. No hot food. Only selections were cereal, muffins, bread for toast and yogurt. We decided to stay because we just needed a place to sleep for the night and the price was amazing. Overall is was still a good stay for what we needed. Side note: there was high traffic of homeless people who use this hotel.

The hotel was okay, and the staff was great. It's downhill from there. There was no clock or ice bucket in the room. When I asked the front desk for one, he couldn't find one. He gave me an ice bucket plastic bag, which immediately ripped when I tried to fill it. The bed platform base appeared to be made of metal roofing sheets. The mattress had completely broken springs on one side. It sank so much that you couldn't even roll to the middle of the bed. Each time you got in or out of bed, it sounded like you were destroying something, loud enough to wake the person beside you. I reported the mattress to the staff on Saturday morning and was told they were waiting for a shipment for the entire first floor. They said they would mark that one not to sell. I told her no one would buy it if they looked at it. I raised the mattress, and the fabric was full of holes on the bottom side where the coils had torn it. We would've asked for another room, but we were already unpacked. After driving all day, the last thing we needed was all that drama and inconvenience. We've stayed in several RR Inns, but that was probably the last one. The breakfast was a decent snack to tide you over until you could get a real breakfast. The staff was cordial and polite.

Smelled good when I arrived. Rooms. are outdated. Thin mattress on a wire spring was very uncomfortable and noisy. Would not had done review but when I pulled the blanket there was a paw print on the sheet : ( I did complain and the staff gave me sheets ( she offered me another room but I was already settled in) the sheets were dingy ( clean but dingy) when I told my husband he said you get what you pay for... Last year I stayed at Holiday Inn across the street... + They have hot food. I have celiac so I took yogurt and coffee for breakfast. Again area is clean
