Disappointing Stay at Secrets Huatulco – Not Up to Expectations We recently stayed at Secrets Huatulco, and unfortunately, the resort did not live up to the usual standards we expect from Secrets resorts. Although advertised as a luxury destination, this is more of a 3-star experience. Upon arrival, we were immediately taken aback by the frayed towels and bath mats in our room. Additionally, the swim-up pool had a broken umbrella, and we found open peanuts in the nightstand drawer, which was a little concerning. Even worse, we discovered clumps of hair around the room, which is certainly not the cleanliness one should expect from a "luxury" resort. Room service also left much to be desired. Our orders were consistently wrong, adding to the frustration. The resort also seemed to lack the lively atmosphere that typically defines a vacation destination. Many of the bars close by 9 pm, and the entertainment is over early, which gave the whole place a rather subdued, almost retirement village vibe. We were usually back in our room by 9 or 10 pm, which was quite disappointing for a getaway. On a positive note, the staff were polite and helpful throughout our stay. The spa was another highlight, though we were initially put off by the high cost. Had we been offered a promotional deal earlier in our stay, we likely would have visited the spa more frequently, but we only took advantage of it on our second-to-last day. Overall, Secrets Huatulco fell short of our expectations.

Stayed here for 4 nights in December and overall I enjoyed my stay here. Having an ocean view room is amazing and the staff are all incredible and friendly. The property needs some real TLC. Peeling paint, lots of loose or missing tiles in the pool and just an overall refresh of this property is needed. Considering this is a 5-star resort, it was a real annoyance that there was a rarely a pool lounger available after 8am. Unless you get up at 6-6:30am to put a towel on a lounger(s) you were just hoping everyday to find one with an umbrella or shade. Equally disappointing was that the loungers would be untouched other than a towel on them for hours. So be prepared to eye up your desired spot when you arrive and then get up real early to claim it! The beach area was nice. Water was warm and the ocean mostly calm everyday. There’s some decent snorkeling near the rocks on east side of the beach. The food at the resort was just okay in my opinion. Again, as a 5-star resort I was expecting much better. I enjoyed Castaways the best as it was down near the water and the atmosphere and service were great. All the other restaurants are near the top floor of the main building and had the feel of being a mall food court with all them packed in side by side with no real atmosphere and anything to really differentiate the different styles. Up there, I ate at Spice and Tamarindo.

Issues with getting lounges around the pool and at the ocean. People leave their towels on the chairs and never seem to show up. Also towels are hard to get sometimes.

The property needs some upgrades, pool tiles falling off everywhere. There is not enough pool chairs for everyone and if you want one you can never sleep in because you have to reserve a chair by six am to sit by the pool. There was this awful whistling sound that ran throughout the day and night no idea what it was but kind of kills the mood sitting out on the deck listening to the ocean. Food was ok, loved the Japanese and thier seafood.

The good: The scenery is breathtaking. The beach is beautiful , safe and you can swim or snorkel all day long. Rooms are spacious. The bad: the hotel definitely requires more maintenance, some of the pools have the tiles loose and can be dangerous. Very long distances between rooms and beach /restaurants. One of the elevators was suddenly pouring water! Limited food options since that many restaurants were closed or not available. Some staff members were rude. The entertainment was good because dancers were excellent but shows were scarce. The preferred service is not worth it since they treated you without respect , no remarkable perks and it was expensive. There was a group of medical students who invaded areas that were reserved for preferred customer and caused delayed in service. The hotel staff did not do anything about it. The sales people of the share time are bothersome since they are pushing you to hear the 90 min tike share presentation from day 1. In summary, it is an overpriced hotel in a beautiful location that sells as exclusive but had facilities that need improvement with poor food and bad service. I will look for a different place next time.

The service was above and beyond! Every single individual here contributes to the liveliness and lives and breathes service! The scheduled events were all very entertaining, and the karaoke and live bands were some of the best experiences that we will remember for a lifetime. The pool areas were amazing, and the swim up bar was top notch! Access to the beach and the stretch of land left nothing to be desired. The rooms were clean, elegant, and a very private view from the balcony. Some of the reviews we saw pointed out some of the stuff in the lobby’s and rooms are showing signs of wear and tear, but we personally did not encounter anything worth pointing out. I would greatly recommend this place if you want to create a memory that’ll last a lifetime! Very different from Cancun. More secluded, private, and personal.

Todo bien organizado. Demasiado énfasis en comida y bebida. Mínimo en deportes- gimnasio muy pobremente equipado, un catamarán para prestar y algunas canoas. Entretenimiento se podría mejorar también - poca información al respecto. Todos los restaurantes buenos, excepto el italiano. Las reservas a Tepenyaqui crean conflictos innecesarios. Excelente cóctel de mariscos en “Barefoot”, así como la carne en el Frances. Lo de arriba atrae más bien personas de tercera edad, como nosotros y desalienta a los más jóvenes y deportistas. A pesar de ser de tercera edad me ejercito regularmente en un gimnasio. !Sus equipos de gimnasio son ya casi una antigüedad! Lo de “preferred”, casi no tiene beneficios. No lo volvería contratar. Llamar un cuarto estándar, Junior Suite, crea innecesarias expectativas frustradas.

This hotel is at a beautiful location. This is a place where you come to rest. There is no shopping or restaurants close by, you will have to take a taxi to do any of that. The service is great. I think some areas of the pool need to be maintained better, the tiles are coming off. The mesh of some of the lounge chaises are worn and they seem to be coming apart. The Oaxacan cuisine restaurant was the best, the rest of the restaurants were OK. The gym has good equipment with nice views.

El hotel se ve algo viejo, le falta cambiar algunas losetas que están rotas, remodelar piso en mesas altas del bar y acceso al restaurante de los desayunos. Falta limpieza en paredes de los elevadores.

Pools are not clean super dirty and stinky

Room was wonderful, very clean and everything you needed. Rain shower and big bubble tub. Fridge being stocked was hit and miss, but bar was close. Lots of bars. Lots of activities. Musical guests were ok. Food was good for the most part. Property was way away from everything in the area. $85 pesos ride to town. Not really convenient to walk anywhere from the resort. Staff was good mostly. Some bar tenders were not nice. Pool water was very warm. Chairs at the pool were often saved and left vacant for hours, even though they tell you not to. Mostly a good place to stay.

Mini bar was just filthy 3 pm check in and then told to wait until 4pm in the foyer Japanese restaurant was cheap wine and stale food and dried fish Service was average Separate bedroom was not!

The rooms are spotless, the food is incredibly good, the amenities are nice and comfortable and most importantly the people and customer service are great. This hotel is synonym of quality. Can't wait to visit again!!

En general muy bien, solo que el dia anterior a mi salida del Resort, ya no nos hicieron la limpieza de la habitación. Creo que deberían esforzarse hasta el último día. Están muy limitados en el servicio del servibar ya que ni agua purificada dejaban. Un día tuve que solicitar hasta las toallas de baño porque no las dejaron.

The property needs a little touch ups it is a nice resort but the walls in some areas are dirty, the live music by hallway was to loud for people that wants to go to sleep early

No recomiendo. Incluso pongo en duda totalmente la categoría de 5 estrellas que le asignaron a este hotel. Desde que llegas no hay ni una atención, únicamente te ofrecen créditos y descuentos si tomas una plática con ellos te dan cupones que no sirven o que limitan su uso. Las instalaciones desde que llegas se ven en completo deterioro, las paredes, la falta de pintura. En casa piso se ven las grietas, en las duchas saliendo de la playa se ve la falta de atención y cuidado. Los restaurantes el peor servicio, con el argumento de ser temporada baja abren 2 de especialidad y mantienen el buffet cerrado. Con decir que el room service es lo único “bueno” con su poca variedad pero la atención es lo único rescatable. Cabe mencionar que sufrimos una intoxicación en su restaurante de mariscos lo cual agravó totalmente la situación, un servicio médico nulo con cargo extra obviamente, y si quieres hacer upgrade te recomiendo no lo hagas, venden la idea de un preferred club que tiene alcohol de etiquetas de lujo pero no vale para nada la pena y no tiene sentido. El servicio de spa es bueno pero para llegar hay que pedir transporte en un carro con los del valet que tienen muy mala actitud y solo quieren hacer todo rápido. En general de las peores experiencias en un hotel todo incluido y con según excelente te categoría

This was our first time in Huatulco. We loved the town. We've stayed at multiple Secrets Resorts and have been wanting to visit this one. It wasn't as nice as the others but it was still okay. We kept hearing a loud odd noise all through the day and all throughout the night. It sounded like a type of ceremony or ritual was being held. Come to find out, it was a noise from an ice machine. I'm not sure why the resort would be okay with having something that loud for the guests to hear all day/night. It was extremely annoying while trying to sleep. The hotel guests would get up early in the morning and claim chairs by the pool and beach. So, if you sleep in, forget about getting a spot by the pool or beach. Also, we would have to wait for beach towels at 7am. We still enjoyed our trip but this resort is not the Secrets quality we've experience from other Secrets.

Lo primero que tengo que decir es que todas las personas con las que tuvimos contacto fueron realmente amables, todos eficientes y con muy buena actitud. Esto hizo de nuestra estancia una experiencia muy agradable y lo agradecemos mucho. Los alimentos son buenos y variados, sobre todo en el buffett del desayuno, en la comida no tanto, poca variedad y mas bien snacks. Los restaurantes para cenar son variados, no están mal, pero pueden mejorar. En cuanto a las habitaciones, los muros son de papel, se oye TODO, fue muy molesto, particularmente tratándose de un hotel para adultos. Saquen sus conclusiones... Es un buen lugar para un par de días, pero siendo Secrets esperábamos mejor calidad, hacía años que no íbamos y nos decepcionó un poco la calidad en general de alimentos y bebidas. Lo recomendamos para grupos de amigos en parejas, puede ser divertido pues hay actividades y buen servicio. Si quieres más intimidad, calma, romance, definitivamente no lo recomiendo.

Hacen falta renovaciones en el hotel. Un elevador no servía y los otros goteaban del aire acondicionado. Algunos elementos de los cuartos, como los baños o las cómodas, se ven y se sienten viejos. La comida, como en todos los all-inclusive, está okay, regular. No vengas esperando la gran comida porque no es el caso. En general todos muy atentos y muy buen servicio. Cerca del aeropuerto (unos 30 min en carro), y está en una pequeña bahía, por lo que la playa queda prácticamente privada y es generalmente tranquilo el oleaje. Me gusto la vista de la bahía y el mar, cuarto excelente, comida muy buena con diferentes restaurantes temáticos, personal muy amable, amenidades buenas.

Wonderful room (big, luxurious, great shower and jacuzzi tub), exceptional and helpful service everywhere we went, beautiful location. The couples massage was incredible, and very reasonably priced. Food was good to very good, drinks were great.

Beautiful property amazing views from each room

The property is nice, it needs some up dating. Customer service was not good at all people at front desk were very unprofessional and with other agencies for timeshare working in the same area was a mess. The hotel does not have ATM machine for customers to use. But they offer you to help you with extra charges on top of other charges. Restaurants food was very bad except the japonés. If everything is included why to change extra money to be at front of the shows they offer? The waiters were horrible and there service was to be standing on the side of the tables that you had to pay extra mean while the people behind those tables had to wait or stand up to get water or utensils because they pretend to be busy. I will not recommend this please as 5 stars because the most 2 1/2 stars hope they really change that because it seems it’s been like this for a while. never saw someone incharge at front desk. We had to check in and out on The other side were gold member do but still was bad to see the front desk employees busy on their cellphones.

Our stay was delightful.The staff in this place is absolutely amazing. They go above and beyond to cater to their guests. The food variety is good and overall atmosphere of the place is very peaceful. My husband and I had a restful and beautiful stay.

We didn’t like front office customer service. I saw a video on you tube and I was expecting to have the same friendly welcome . They didn’t offer any welcome drinks or a friendly welcome. I will not go back to secrets it was too expensive for what we received 🙃

It was ok. The staff were friendly but seemed understaffed. You felt like just a number even though I have had a more personalized experience at bigger resorts. The amenities were inconsistent and they weren’t able to accommodate a group of 15 even when we tried to contact them in advance of our trip or give several days notice once we arrived on site. The building seems to be showing its age. The spa experience was wonderful and the staff very skilled. The food at Tamarindo was great and having lunch at Castways was very good.

High Pressure vacation membership should be avoided. It lasted 3 hours NOT 90 minutes!

We didn’t get the room we paid for. They said it was an “upgrade.” They said our room wasn’t available but most likely the hotel was not full. They’re really strict on wardrobe for dining. We couldn’t eat if my husband had a sleeveless shirt when it’s super hot out. We couldn’t eat at the restaurants inside if he was wearing shorts but yet girls have their bums showing and wearing crocs inside. During check in, they told us we couldn’t make reservations for dining, but when we would go to eat others made reservations. They had a special event that got super packed right away and a lot of people were left without dinner or the show. There wasn’t anywhere else to eat if you were “casually” dressed. The food wasn’t the best. Everything is super far away, this resort is completely secluded. If you’re looking for an adults only resort, this is fine if you don’t want to explore anything since everything is far. The beer and drinks were watered down. I wouldn’t go back to the resort. The biggest drawback was the long check in process. Once you’re checked in, you’re followed by a salesperson to get you to purchase their time share. That wasted at least an hour of our time. Each time they see you, there’s another sales person attempting the sale. Major buzz kill.

The worst part is the Vacation Club staff trying to sell their share time constantly. It shouldn't be allowed.

Beach pools staff rooms all first class. There is A LOT of walking and stairs to be considered if mobility is an issue.

Beautiful beach and location which is our top priority. Difficult route getting to the beach from the rooms. Chair saving should be outlawed. Rooms were clean. Generous with beach towels. Long pants in restaurants for men is just plain stupid.

The staff could not have been better: happy, fun, and would bend over backwards to make sure you got what you wanted. Huatulco is also safe and not supper touristy. You can safely explore close by towns with a cheap ($10) cab ride. Would go back 100 times in a row if it was a little easier to fly into.

We were excited to try out a Secrets property. We had always enjoyed our Dreams resorts and always believed Secrets would be an upgrade. This resort was average. Things we enjoyed, it was quiet and laid back. Beach was beautiful and swimming was nice. The ocean is a bit of a walk from the chairs a bit of an incline coming back to chairs and a bit difficult so if you have mobility issues and like the beach it might not be for you. There is a beautiful spot to take in the sunrise. Go to the left way down the beach between two signs is a path! Recommend taking in a sunrise! Hotel is clean. Food mediocre. However we highly enjoyed the Italian restaurant Cin Cin, the Oaxaca Mexican buffet night and the Teppanyaki and the wings and chips at Barefoot grill. Service is less than fair. It seems that staffing may be an issue. Most of the bartenders seemed aloof and not even happy to be there. Drinks were meh! Drink Service by the beach was excellent! They come by often and always check in. Overall it was a typical average all inclusive. Not what I was hoping for from a Secrets.

Property was excellent, the staff and customer service level here is amazing!! A few things to note: - The restaurants are great, we loved the Japanese style and French one. I will warn in advance room service, the poolside grill, and buffet are NOT good. My wife got food poisoning from the poolside grill on the last few days of our trip.. - The relaxation factor here is excellent however if you are looking for more of a party/fun vibe this is not the resort for you. The pool is divided into a quiet and loud side, the loud side has a strict policy on certain music played at certain times and all activities are on a very tight schedule. This was an amazing experience and we have plans to go back, just figured these two are important things to note when considering booking here!

Compared to other secrets properties this is by far the worst property. Very limited food options and the quality is below average. It’s a cool lil spot but would not visit again. One of those one and done deals

I Give it a 4 only because the food sucks so bad. The drinks are very good but the food is pretty bad. Everything else is amazing

Esperaba más de la comida y los restaurantes que hay adentro, las bebidas no sabían casi a nada de alcohol y eso que probé todas las que pude durante mi estancia

Está bonito el hotel, pero la comida deja mucho que desear. igual, unos familiares se enfermaron y fue por comer ahí.
