Alaskan Hotel and Bar

This is a very old hotel. That was interesting to see an hotel from 1913, but the oldness comes with a few catches. First their is no elevator and the stairs are very steep to climb, which we had to climb three flights of stairs. And second there is not hotel front desk person after 4pm. You have to go to the bar and ask a bartender to let you in your room or for any other services. The price for Juneau is cheap, just recognize it as an old hotel, but the room was fine

Staff was friendly but the check-in procedure involved contacting the bartender in the first-floor bar, and that took some time. The room was facing the street and there was a lot of street noise (not the hotel's fault obviously). To their credit, after I explained my circumstances (I had contracted Covid-19) they let me check out very late (3 PM) so I could go directly to my next hotel, and didn't charge me for a second night, even though it was within their rights to do so. It was much appreciated.

This hotel is over 100 years old but it's well maintained with a very helpful staff. There are antiques throughout to add charm. Rooms are approximately furnished to match the overall decor. Bed was comfortable as was the room temp. Be aware there are 43 steps to the 3rd floor and no elevator. It's a hotel and bar and the bar's not soundproof, if that might be a concern. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Can't beat the location.

Old Haunted property with no amenities. No elevator so dont bring big bags because there is no one to helo you drag them up to the 3rd floor. No parking at all and no one can tell you where to park. No full time staff after 4pm. The head of the bed is lower than the feet...very loud music from the bar and loud noise outside in the street all night...

It was a historic building with a lot of character. No elevator so you have to carry your luggage upstairs.

An old hotel dating from 1913, so expect it to be rustic. However the beds are fresh and comfortable. The staff is friendly. Parking area is difficult to find if you arrive after dark in the rain, so you'll want a flashlight. Same thing with the rear entrance, which is not yet well marked. When you leave the parking lot and head down the flight of stairs towards the hotel, you come to a little covered landing. Turn right after the covered landing and the door on the right is your target where you'll find the combination keypad on the door. There are stairs to get to your rooms as its built on a hill, and no elevator. So plan accordingly. morning Coffee is good, but no breakfast at the hotel. The bar looks like something from an old west movie set, very cool.

This is a funky, venerable old hotel. Our needs were met. About 60 steps to the top floor, no elevator.

This place is a very affordable option in the heart of downtown, but the issue is that it can be EXTREMELY noisy due to loud music from the bar downstairs LATE into the night. The problem is that the music somehow resonates and amplifies through the walls, producing headache inducing bassy noise, often up to 1 am. This makes some rooms (the ones prone to this noise) essentially unsuitable for habitation. If you're lucky enough to get a room where you can't hear the noise, then the hotel interiors are charming and quaint.

I chose this hotel for the history and the vibe of it all did not disappoint. I knew to expect an older facility so it is an old hotel with slanted floors and visible wear and tear. But it was a really fun experience to stay in a hotel with such history. My only complaint is there parking. There are only about 6 actual spots and you drive down a steep hill behind the hotel to get to the small lot. It is in bad need of some work at the bottom of the hill. My car kept scraping the pavement going over that part. But other than that, the hotel was great. It's in a location with stores and food all around it. Would definitely stay again.

Hotel was rustic, no elevator - definitely not recommended if you have heavy luggage or cannot walk up flights of stairs that are somewhat uneven. We had an en-suite bathroom, but it was tiny with not much space to put anything.

I love a classic 112 year old hotel. Shared bathrooms were clean and never a wait. Mattress was like a cloud! Everyone is helpful and friendly. Not your type of place if you're uptight and get upset about some wear and tear or hauling gear up stairs. Adventurous souls only!

This property is misrepresented on the website. The pictures show clean, bright, spacious, updated rooms. The rooms are cramped with worn out and broken furnishings. The flexible shower head in my bathroom has held up with packing tape. The smell in the rooms was overwhelming mold, mildew and dust. Frankly, my room smelled like cat urine and industrial cleaning chemicals. There were cobwebs in the window sills. It was unseasonably warm when I stayed with no ventilation in the rooms and although I was told upon booking my room was located in a quiet part of the hotel, I heard and felt the music from the bar until 2AM. The website discloses that there are stairs and no elevators, but the steepness and number of stairs was and unpleasant surprise with suitcases. On the plus side, the sheets were clean and the water was hot. We were booked for three nights and the staff graciously cancelled our last 2nights at no charge when we found a different hotel and moved.

We spent one night at this hotel. It was lovely and clean. Close to all shops and bars. Would certainly recommend Alaska Hotel and Bar to any travellers wanting accommodation which is value for money.

Property needs major upgrade...no heat, no soap, linen was dirty, hole in the wall and old furnishings. Left for another hotel.

Leaving Cob webs and mold is not keeping authenticity of hotel. It was dirty, needed polished, and maintained. The bar was fun and nostalgic, but also needed work. Only place I visited in Juneau that I didn't feel safe.

Great historical venue, kept the charm but was comfortable and clean. Prompt responses to requests and securely held luggage after check out so we could explore town more before our flight.

I love staying at historic hotels. And I understand the limitations. However, the stuff the hotel has control over didn’t get attention. For instance, the bedding … the pillow case had a massive hole in it. The hallways were so dirty. It’s a shame.

Nice place to stay in Juneau. Room was clean & comfy, the staff was helpful and delightful. Recommend Alaskan Hotel. Just note there is no elevator. I knew that ahead of time, so it wasn't a surprise. The young men carried my luggage up and brought it back down.

There was a mouse in a mouse trap in our room. It woke us up but it was very early morning and no one was at front desk. We had to leave to start our day

Do yourself a favor and don't stay here unless you're planning to party until 3am. It was very hot the day we were there and there is no air conditioning. The windows faced the Main Street and it was REALLY loud, but we had to have them open. We slept about 3 hours that night. Go visit the bar but just stay at a newer hotel.

Tiny rooms, very antiquated. Be happy that there is electricity. Major amount of skinny stairs with nails protruding, very steep with inadequate railing. Our queen room with ensuite was about 12' x 12', that included the bathroom which was put in the closet. It did have a small electric stove right next to the sink - odd placement. Extremely pricey for what you get. Almost $200 a night in a place that, while historic, has not had any real improvements since it was built in the 1800's. The light fixtures are all 50+ years old. It is right in the middle of downtown, so it is very convenient to shopping, bar hopping, and dining.

The Alaskan Hotel and Bar is a lovely, seemingly well maintained historic hotel with very nice staff, comfortable beds and the best location in downtown Juneau. I had a room with a large toilet/bathroom but check when you book if this is important to you as many rooms do not. The lack of elevator may also deter some. The bar attached was lively. Hotel is easy walking distance to the The Rookery for a delicious breakfast and the city bus to explore. Very nice and welcoming team.

Beautiful old hotel right in historic Juneau. Unique antique architecture and comfortable rooms. Try and request a room that's not right over the bar if you are a light sleeper as noise comes through the floor.

We were on the third floor with no elevator. It would be nice if that was listed in their website. Also no air conditioning. No mirror. No sink in the bathroom.

I had an interesting stay at this hotel. The BIGGEST benefit it offers is that it’s centrally located in downtown Juneau. So much is within reasonable walking distance from the hotel. The hotel itself had a very strange vibe. It’s a very old hotel and on the National Registry of historic buildings. I liked that aspect of it. I feel there is a lot of unspoken history that goes with this building. I didn’t like the all the noise from the live band from the bar directly below every night. Please factor that in. I especially liked Teresa. I believe she is the hotel manager. Very friendly and personable. She really cared about what I had to say regarding my stay. Overall, not bad. It kept me off the streets, roof over my head and physically safe (front entrance and hotel entrance are both locked). Nobody can walk in from the street, snoop around and stir stuff up. Also, this is a very reasonable option compared to what you would pay at other hotels in Juneau. Not sure if I will stay here again. I’m very neutral. I absolutely plan on returning to Juneau though!

I slept well, despite a very poor mattress. This hotel is right over the bar, and was quite noisy. I had earbuds that helped.

Wade from the front desk was super nice and helpful! The hotel overall is quite old and has a lingering cigarette smell, but it has all the necessary amenities.

I left a personal item in the room. The staff searched me out and got it to me before I flew out. Very much appreciated. I will definitely be back.

The hotel is an historic landmark and it certainly is quirky. The room had everything. The only bad experience was check in as i checked in later and the lobby had a sign to go the bar next door for check-in. I had to wait for 20 minutes as the bartender at the bar was manning both duties. However, she was super friendly and apologetic

The staff here are very friendly, and my room was exactly what I expected. The hotel is very conveniently located downtown, which, expectedly, comes with downtown noises. There isn't any AC, but the room cooled down at night to a comfortable level. The "biggest" issue I had was that the bed was very squeaky and was loud any time I had to shift around. Overall, I had a good experience here.

Best staff. So friendly. This is an historic property, so the rooms are unique configurations that might not appeal to everyone, but we thought it was great. Perfect location, esoecially if coming in from a cruise ship. Susan at the front desk was great

The staff was very hospitable... The manager, Jamie Smith it is amazing. I'm in the hospitality industry and know a gem when I see it. Thanks for the great stay and incredible service.

Had a late night check in, Bartender did not know how to check us in, therefore unable to give us room key. Had to sleep at airport due to this.

First off, I’m not one to complain and stay at cheap hotels all over the country. Old carpet, shared bathrooms, even bugs whatever… I’ve been known to tolerate some pretty lousy conditions on the road working. To start off, I actually like the old vibe of the hotel and the atmosphere… the bar and bartenders are fantastic and even the locals like hanging out here and there’s even live music. The big deal breaker for me though was NOT HAVING A LOCK that worked on the door of my room. I told the staff when I realized it wasn’t locking and they told me there were no other rooms and they would get it fixed. I stayed there four days and they never bothered to even bother to apologize or update me. The lock was never addressed and I had to prop a chair up against the door every night sleeping. It’s a real tragedy this place isn’t managed better because with a few basic needs addressed it would be a nice place. FIX YOUR LOCKS OTHERWISE DONT RENT THE ROOM! Also get a real front desk, those poor people running the bar have enough responsibility and shouldn’t have to cover for the lack of staffing at the hotel

Check in was super easy. Staff was very friendly and great about explaining the noise from the bar is loud especially in certain rooms so we were able to get a room that wouldn't be as exposed to the noise. The location is fantastic and great to walk around.

It’s very beautiful because it’s old and well kept. Be ready for noise at night. I brought ear plugs and had no problem sleeping

This is an historic hotel with a lot of character. The location is excellent. I took a room on the top floor that had its own bathroom. I’ve had a lot of character if you’d like that sort of thing, I highly recommend this hotel.

This is a hotel above a bar. The building is old and historic. If you want tone in downtown and near lots of restaurants the location is great. But if you don’t want to be close to the cruise ship area this is not the hotel for you. The rooms are small which should be expected in an historic hotel. I stayed Friday and Saturday night so the music from the bar was quite loud well past midnight. The hotel is cheap compared to others in the downtown area, so costs and location are the two selling points. The staff was very good and helpful as well.

Our window was on the main street so it was noisy at night. Funny note: we encountered a bear in the parking lot.

Look, the place is old or as they say historical. Dont expect to sleep if the bar below is hopping. Great location to entertainment and dining.

A few things about this place: -It's a shared bathroom and the bathroom was not super clean. The shower (shared) had wet towels hanging in it also. - It is above the bar and I stayed on Karaoke night and it was extremely loud! - There are no elevators or people to help you with your luggage. I saw two elderly people struggle to get all of their luggage up to the third floor. So, that is something to think about when booking this place. If you want a place to stumble back to after you have been drinking, this is your place. If you want any sort of peace and quite or something clean... Stay away.

Breakfast options, other than coffee shops, were limited.

We were excited to stay there and enjoyed the historical building and decor. We did not mind the lack of modern amenities. Outside the hotel bar is noisy at night. Our last night a band played in the bar that was so loud we heard every word at top volume in our room. There was no way to sleep and we were extremely tired for our early flight

The hotel was a fun experience. Supposedly it is haunted, so it was a fun time looking for signs of ghosts. Stayed in a room that was very comfortable but near a haunted area. We had a fun night in the bar, and felt very comfortable.

It's a beautiful place with an old school feel to it. I love the history of the place, the nearly over the top of bar/performance area, and the people, of course!

Great relatively inexpensive hotel in downtown Juneau. Fun place to stay for couples and solo adults. Great character and a good place to crash for the night in Juneau if you don’t mind a bit of noise from the bar.

This hotel has comfy beds, is clean and an Alaskan history. For these reasons stay a night or 2. But, it is run by a young staff, so coffee was not always available, no one cared or monitored the rooms and parties going on in the rooms and it is above a great local bar, that adds to the noise. In Alaska there is no need for air conditioning, but a window fan to bring in cool air would have been nice. Altogether a good place to stay, not for picky, people. Close to all downtown and bus station.

Definitely a unique stay. Definitely not for your common comment complainer. But for me it was great. Karoke was fun drinks cheap great vibe fabulous service. Adventure traveler spot also the cheapest in town by far.
