This is by far the best option for proximity to the beach in Negril without the all inclusive ticket. It's a small Jamaican owned hotel with friendly staff and great food. We stayed in a Junior suite on the lower level that was about 20 steps away from the beach! You can see the famous 7 mile beach right from your bedroom and from the patio right out your room. They have shaded lounging on the beach which makes it convenient to sit out all day if needed. The staff will also serve you food right there if you don't want to leave the beach! There is also a pool if you want to switch it up. 10/10 experience for the traveler who isn't looking for a cookie cutter vacation experience. We didn't opt for the breakfast plan option, we paid each day for the meals. They have a wide range of meals from their a la carte menu and each night they may have a price fixed menu p/person as well. Just go. You will love it.

Good - Best beach in Negril. Natural shade with lots of palms. Wide with plenty of room for seating. Service was good. Bad - My main complaint is that they need a restroom closer to the beach. Maybe near the restaurant. Currently, you have to come off the beach, walk past/through restaurant, cross the courtyard. That's too far.

Decent smaller hotel on 7 mile beach in Negril. The room and grounds were very nice, beautiful beach with lots of palm trees for shade and lots of lounge chairs. We didn’t love the restaurant — had 1 breakfast there and chose to eat elsewhere for the rest of the time but there are lots of good options nearby, especially the jerk chicken place across the street.

Beautiful spot on the beach. Great rooms! Staff is outstanding. Jazz nights, Thursday and Saturday night, dine with a great atmosphere and delicious food. Make a reservation, busy on nights with music.

Our third-floor ocean view room in the new wing was nice though narrow. The bathroom was large and nicely appointed. The hotel is well-located in the heart of the best and safest part of Seven Mile Beach. The on-site restaurant was lovely and the food was good. The clientele was primarily 50-plus with some families sprinkled in. We liked that they were evenly distributed between Germans, French, Canadians and Americans. The whole place, especially the beach with its lush trees that provide necessary shade, had a comfortable, moderately upscale vibe that, fortunately in our view, also wasn't ostentatious. BUT. It turns out that there is fierce competition for the shade, such that, at least in high season, one of your party will have to arise at 6:30 and go down to the beach and lay claim to some chaises, which also might involve negotiating (as it were) that process with one of the workers who supervises the beach. It also might involve, as it did our case, being told by another guest oozing arrogance that you had no right to put your stuff in an area that was, he maintained, reserved for his group by arrangement with one of those staff. And mind you, you're given no forewarning about this process when you check in or when you first hit the beach. Bummer! We figured it out, but it left a bad feeling. Lastly, twice in the late afternoon when we needed to shower, there was no water whatsoever, a problem that was fixed as quickly and mysteriously as it appeared.

Location is great and the property offers free parking. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The property is quiet and cozy. However, it is a bit outdated. The staff was pleasant and helpful, rooms clean and surrounding areas clean plus the beach was well kept. The owner/manager is always onsite and that helps keep employees performing at their best. The in room mini fridge is a big help as I could keep an abundant supply of water and coconut water cold.

Overall after seeing such great videos and history about this property it did not meet my expectations at all. The front of house manager did acknowledge my concerns during the trip which I am grateful for however even the upgraded room that I was given had a urine soiled bed, broken iron and broken toilet roll holder and in need of a general upgrade revamp. I was not wowed by the menu options and even received a plate of food that had sauce smeared all over the base. I can see why it would be highly rated for some as i did witness staff give good care to some travellers and there were some pleasant staff onsite. I picked this hotel as I wanted an authentic experience of Jamaica, often not given in the resorts but for me it was very regrettable. I could not even get fresh mint or lime for tea in the restaurant when feeling unwell.

The room is very clean. The housekeeper does a great job. The room is nice. However the prices at the restaurant are expensive and the customer service can be better. People are not that friendly & customer oriented in comparison to the other hotels.

This was our second time in a row staying at Charela. We love the beach it is probably the nicest beach on seven mile. The rooms are clean and well appointed. What we dislike about Charela is the lack of friendliness from the staff, especially the female staff. The cleaning ladies are very friendly as is the doorman. The serving staff however is not. The women do not smile, the front desk ladies aren't overly friendly, restaurant service is poor, with the exception of one older lady, not sure of her name, she was awesome. Restaurant prices are far too high for what you get but there are other options near by. The beach is well kept and the beach security is on point! I would stay again, I'm just more prepared for what to expect from the serving staff.

Just stayed a week here and it was amazing. Great property that is extremely well taken care of. Staff is very friendly. The beach area is one of the largest with plenty of shaded seating. Only thing that would have made stay even better is if the rooms had a microwave. So much good food available to be able to eat leftovers later in the room would have been great. The government also needs to fix the roads. The traffic can be bad because everyone has to slow down to avoid all the pot holes. Love the hotel!!

First of all. The location is the best in Negril. Second. The service is five star. Friendly and attentive. The on site restaurant and room service is great. Last but not least. The rooms are amazing. We stayed in an ocean view room. It was huge with an amazing balcony. Also quiet! We stayed during Dream week and as soon as we closed the door it was as quiet as you could ever wish. We loved our stay.

Charela Inn is such a gem. Glad I finally hot to stay here. The ocean front room was very spacious with beautiful furnishings. The staff eas very friendly with smiles for days. If you are lucky enough to engage in a conversation with the owner do it! Such a gracious host. Will def be back. If you go make sure to say hi to Kush the coolest german shepherd around lol

I loved staying at the Charela Inn. The staff is welcoming and helpful. We ate many meals there and enjoyed each one. The food service on the beach is wonderful! The rooms could use to be updated. Old furniture drawers were difficult to open and close.

Beautifully decorated .... old charm ... authentic! So many options to choose from when you walk out to the beautiful 7 Mile Beach. Charela has one of the most beautiful settings on the beach. Great value and location. It is a small hotel and restaurant. on the beach. The staff are the best except for a few of the younger restaurant waitresses who spend too much time looking at their phones. Front disk staff great and very helpful. Our room housekeeper was wonderful. If we need to change while she was there never a problem. The guys at the beach were always helpful and anticipated your needs. Our room needed a shower update, several times the water flowed over the floor. it was a bad design. We needed more lights in the room there were two bedside and one in hall. We had a great ten day stay I would strongly recommend it.

This was our 6th visit to Charela and each time has been great. Besides the perfect beach and being centrally located, the staff really make you feel at home and as family. Everyone from the owner on down always greets you with a hello and is there anything you need. Also, Charela must be doing something right because several of the staff have been there over 20 years.

Property was great. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. House keeping was the best they clean my room on time and each time I go back to my room it feels like a new room. The life guard tyreek was very helpful great guy. Only person we dislike was the security on the beach . He doesn’t know how to talk to the guest plus he’s lazy with an attitude.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Charela Inn. All the staff members we interacted with were very professional, courteous and efficient. Charela Inn will definitely be our stay of choice whenever we are returning to Negril.

This was our second time in a row staying at Charela. We love the beach it is probably the nicest beach on seven mile. The rooms are clean and well appointed. What we dislike about Charela is the lack of friendliness from the staff, especially the female staff. The cleaning ladies are very friendly as is the doorman. The serving staff however is not. The women do not smile, the front desk ladies aren't overly friendly, restaurant service is poor, with the exception of one older lady, not sure of her name, she was awesome. Restaurant prices are far too high for what you get but there are other options near by. The beach is well kept and the beach security is on point! I would stay again, I'm just more prepared for what to expect from the serving staff.

The Charela Inn staff and the restaurant staff were incredibly warm and welcoming! We did have an issue with our AC unit going out but were quickly offered a second room and the manager helped us move our things. The property is well cared for and the beach front is ideal! We truly enjoyed our stay!

First of all. The location is the best in Negril. Second. The service is five star. Friendly and attentive. The on site restaurant and room service is great. Last but not least. The rooms are amazing. We stayed in an ocean view room. It was huge with an amazing balcony. Also quiet! We stayed during Dream week and as soon as we closed the door it was as quiet as you could ever wish. We loved our stay.

I loved staying at this hotel. My room was right on the water. The staff was very helpful and friendly. There was a problem with the air conditioner but they fixed it right away. It was difficult to do much sight seeing due to the distance from Negril and some of the activities as well as the expensive transportation in the area. I got two massages on the beach and was able to just unwind and relax after my mother passed away. I chose this hotel because it is Jamaican owned. The beach was perfect with enough shade and a peaceful area.

Beautiful hotel charming but need to have more customer friendly staff and amenities such as late night snacks or food if you just want to hang drink or eat with friends or family while looking out at the water . No gift shop rooms takes forever . Not much of a menu and breakfast limited

Staff are very friendly, room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Property on a nice location of the beach. Dinners were outstanding. The only thing I didnt like was the lunch, tried sandwiches (nothing on them) Pizza was expensive and didnt taste like a pizza. Dinners were outstanding.

Decent smaller hotel on 7 mile beach in Negril. The room and grounds were very nice, beautiful beach with lots of palm trees for shade and lots of lounge chairs. We didn’t love the restaurant — had 1 breakfast there and chose to eat elsewhere for the rest of the time but there are lots of good options nearby, especially the jerk chicken place across the street.

I cannot think of enough nice things to say about this resort. This was our first time to Negril & Jamaica in general and I had done an obscene amount of research for this trip. We switched hotels twice (Couples Swept away > Skylark> Charela) due to budgeting and to be honest I was nervous we were not going to be happy with Charela and it wasn\'t going to be nice or luxurious enough. I was humbled to say the least. While not the most luxurious or expensive hotel Ive ever stayed in there is something about its romantic, rustic vibe and charm that has made it one of my top favorites. The property is unbelievable- this stretch of beach is absolutely gorgeous, I\'d wager that it is the prettiest stretch of beach in Negril. This place is so romantic. The staff was polite and efficient. There is the sweetest "family dog" named "Kush" that roams the property and beach and we were sad to leave. Our room was immaculately clean. We paid about $700 less per night than friends staying at CSA and our room was twice as large with a HUGE two person tub, a balcony overlooking the live music stage, and beach. The restaurant? 10 out of 10. The absolute BEST Fresh flaky croissants and ham and cheese omelets served to us each morning on the beach or brought to our room. Eating the most decadent Chicken Alfredo pasta while listening to the band and the waves crash just steps away is a core memory. I never thought I would MISS a hotel as much as I do right now.

We loved our first stay in Negril at Charella Inn. The room was cozy, bed was comfy, well situated from the beach and common areas. The beach was STUNNING. The food was delicious at restaurant Vendome, we kept going back for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We’ll be returning for sure!
