Nice hotel across the street from the beach. The pool was heated, jaccusi was nice. It was very quiet, mostly older couples. They have pool and ping pong, movies, books and boardgames to borrow. Its a very relaxing place and parking is secure with a gate. Breakfast was just ok, if this was better it would be great.

We encountered several staff members during our stay and everyone we met or passed by had a friendly smile and a greeting. The landscaping, housekeeping staff, front desk and breakfast cook all made a point to say hello and offer assistance. It was really refreshing. The grounds were well kept, the jacuzzi was especially relaxing, we liked our room too. Great job.

Excellent views of the sunset since being right by the beach. Staff very friendly and helpful. A very clean hotel and pool and hot tubs. Would recommend to staying there.

The floors of the hallways and inside the rooms need to be changed. They are extremely cold and slippery when wet. Also they have puddles in the hallways when they rain. But property wise this is an excellent hotel with the heated pool, kids and adults spa, rec room, free breakfast and panaromic ocean view rooms and within a few feet from Carlsbad State beach.

The staff was great! Starting with Fred in reception, to the gals in the rec room. Our room was comfortable and breakfast was more than what we expected. The pool and jacuzzi really hit the spot. Beautiful buildings! Great location! Will definitely be coming back.

Great resort! Large clean comfy rooms. Right across from the beach! Great views from balcony too! Restaurant on site and walking distance to downtown. Free parking and continental breakfast! Heated pool and two hot tubs. Friendly staff. Highly recommend- can’t be beat for the price and the fantastic overall atmosphere of this resort!

My husband and I enjoyed a stay-cation here, especially the easy access to the beach, village restaurants, their adult-only pool time in the mornings! Complimentary parking and basic breakfast/coffee are a bonus, as was the roof deck for sunsets. Immaculately maintained though FYI some interior rooms are dark due to layout.

Clean room with a walk-in closet. Very large and roomy, but very dark inside. Only the first floor of 23 rooms are hotel rooms. Second and third floor are one and two bedroom timeshare suites and condominiums on the third floor. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Free breakfast could have been a little bit better with at least scrambled eggs on the menu, but they did have fresh waffles, fruit, yogurt, breads, very thin sliced bacon and sausage. Beach access was just across the street and very nice. Pool was clean but pretty cold, the two spas were nice but overly chlorinated. Nice rec room with ping pong table and two pool tables. They also have a very nice overview balcony that you can eat at and view the sunset and Beach from.

Fantastic property for families. Pool, hot tubs, breakfast included. Right across the street from beach and a strip of grass that had fun performers every night. Best was Bubble Bubba with huge bubbles.

While I do appreciate some of the extra touches provided at this hotel (robe, newspaper, free parking, list of activities, fireplace lit in lobby) there are some core areas that need improvement. The beds need to be replaced. The “hump” in the middle from years of people sleeping on the edge is the worst I’ve ever experienced. You literally feel like you are falling off the bed. Also, the carpets need to be replaced. It was ripped, torn and very old looking. I definitely felt the need to wear my flip flops at all times while walking on the carpet. The curtain was almost black from grease, grime and dirt from people opening the curtain. Needs to be cleaned or replaced. The doors throughout the property were dirty around the handle from people’s hands etc. They just need a simple Clorox bleach wipe down. The heater in the room worked well to heat the room but it was so loud we jumped every time it turned on and couldn’t have it on while we slept. While the location is amazing and the views spectacular, I will not be able to return unless these areas are addressed. Thank you very much for you consideration.

They stay was great! Right next to the beach and free parking! The hotel was definitely older. We had mold on both the shower and the curtains, unfortunately. The staff were so accommodating and very nice. And breakfast was excellent. We would stay here again, just wish the hotel was updated!

The hotel (our room -104-)seemed dated and the bathroom floor was dirty. The sheets and blanket seemed old and not soft. If you are placed in room 102, 103 or 104 ask to be moved because you will hear the parking gate below you creaking open and shut all day/night long

While we travel a lot this is my first poor review. This property has a cooling system that sounds like an airplane is taking off in your room that blows from the top of the wall near the ceiling. As soon as the air turns on we all covered our heads because it was not only noisy it blows arctic air for about 10 minutes, then over the next 20 minutes the room slowly gets hot, then the arctic air goes on again, rinse and repeat. No one got any sleep. Oh and I paid extra for an ocean view. From the first floor you only see the traffic and plants, and yes off in the distance you see the ocean water out in the distance. The Ocean is actually about 20 feet lower than the road. So forget the extra for the ocean view. The second and third floors are timeshares, so it is not possible to get an ocean view through Expedia. The second night my daughter, a nurse, found a bed bug in her bed. Worst place to stay ever! The front desk staff were not very friendly, never asked about how my stay was, but the interior staff around the pool . . . were really nice.

This is a super convenient location. A short walk to everything! It is an older property so that’s evident from some of the furniture and the rooms have a musty damp smell. We’ve been there before and it didn’t bother us much. We opened the patio door for fresh air.

Everything about this hotel was wonderful! I couldn’t believe how clean it was. They mopped the hallway floors every day. The staff was friendly and was there for everything you needed. We loved being able to see the beach from our balcony.The bed and towels were plush and comfortable. There are restaurants and shopping within walking distance. They offered a continental breakfast which was nothing to write home about, but was still available if you wanted something quick. We greatly enjoyed the hot tub and pool as well. These were also nice and clean and well-kept. We would definitely stay here again.

We may have got an old room. Kinda small, and was a handicap room which was fine. No smart tv like other hotels, and breakfast was good, just not too many options. The location is wonderful, just wanted one day by the beach and this was a good price for location, maybe needs an update. Staff is awesome by the way! Photo from the lobby.

My room was equipped with HVAC units that is built into the sealing and it was extremely loud! It comes on with a loud click and a deafening bang and then runs at a decibel level comparable to a freight train. If you value sleep, bring ear plugs! Other options are: switch it off overnight or leave the fan on Run while you’re sleeping.

While the resort has an amazing location and the rooms are huge, it is old & dated. The rooms need to be repainted, the furniture replaced, and please get new pillows! The WiFi did not work while we stayed at this hotel. I did appreciate the nice pool and bbq area.

Tamarack Beach resort is across the street from the ocean. Beautiful location. We requested an ocean view room and loved the views and watching all the people walking, biking, running, etc. However it was quite noisy.

Lobby staff were not very approachable. Always in the back office rather than at the checkin desk. Maintenance and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful. Air conditioning in room was so loud it would wake you up out of a sleep. Beds were very hard. Definitely an older building that needs some upgrades. Location was great. Close to ocean access and village. Probably wouldn’t stay there again.

We encountered several staff members during our stay and everyone we met or passed by had a friendly smile and a greeting. The landscaping, housekeeping staff, front desk and breakfast cook all made a point to say hello and offer assistance. It was really refreshing. The grounds were well kept, the jacuzzi was especially relaxing, we liked our room too. Great job.

Loved all that this hotel had to offer (the free parking, breakfast, and property). The room was spacious and clean. However, when we returned from the beach there was zero hot water. We had to call the front desk and when they didn't answer had to walk down to ask about it. It was out for about an hour while we were there-but it would have been good to know (and save some tears from our kids) before we went back to our room and gave them a cold shower. They did call us when it was back on, but it would have been great to have a heads up.

The staff was great! Starting with Fred in reception, to the gals in the rec room. Our room was comfortable and breakfast was more than what we expected. The pool and jacuzzi really hit the spot. Beautiful buildings! Great location! Will definitely be coming back.

Lobby staff were not very approachable. Always in the back office rather than at the checkin desk. Maintenance and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful. Air conditioning in room was so loud it would wake you up out of a sleep. Beds were very hard. Definitely an older building that needs some upgrades. Location was great. Close to ocean access and village. Probably wouldn’t stay there again.

Cute little place across from the water. Loved the patio where my daughter was able to read while enjoying the sun and people watching. Lots of activities were planned for the week for guest, but we did not get a chance to take advantage of. Close walk to Downtown Carlsbad.

Great location. Across the street from Carlsbad State Beach. Easy to walk to restaurants and shops. The ocean view is worth it with a big patio. The room was big with a nice bathroom and king bed. Nice hot water in the shower. Will stay again

Love the fact that the ocean is right across the street and there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. We stayed for those two reasons but mainly because it is also close to Del Mar where we went for the day to watch the horse races.

Great location to stay at for a trip to legoland. Short drive to legoland and a super short walk across the street to get to the beach. The property also has beach supplies (chairs, umbrella, toys) available to use at the beach. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby also. Outer rooms on the front side of the hotel have a balcony to relax and watch the sunset over the ocean.

The hotel had a funny smell. We were given a disabled room, which was so dark. Breakfast was awful. Paper plates and forks, really low quality food. Great location but that’s about all. I went on the reviews on here but it doesn’t reflect it at all.

My family and I were in town for a spring break getaway. The best thing about our room was the view of the beach. The hotel is conveniently located next to the beach, and in walking distance to restaurants and shops. We loved that about this hotel. The staff was friendly, helpful and responded quickly to all of our requests. The breakfast that is offered, needs some variety. The room and bathroom could use some updates. We loved the location and the hotel was clean and quite nice. The only thing that needs improvement is the breakfast. Awkward set up and the food was average at best. If you improved the coffee and served actual cream with it, that would be a big upgrade!

We stay at the Tamarack 2-3 times a year We reserve an ocean view and love it Since we live in AZ we always go to Carlsbad for our ocean fix. We have tried other hotels but nothing beats the Tamarack It’s centrally located so we don’t even need the car. We will continue to stay at the Tamarack anytime we go to Carlsbad
