Hampton by Hilton York

We booked this as it had a gym, but unfortunately this was closed. We were offered a gym at a sister property, but didn't want to walk in our gym gear in the dark. But would definitely book again

I booked this hotel for 1 reason. It said it had parking, I even cancelled another booking for somewhere after it said limited parking in favour of this one. This hotel does not have parking. It has a slightly discounted rate for the NCP down the hill. This car park is badly signposted and hard to find and it is, as I said, DOWN the hill. This means an UPHILL slog to the hotel. That may work if you are young, able-bodied and not encumbered by luggage but I am none of those things, which I why i booked a hotel that said it had parking. I get it's in central York and parking is at a premium, but be honest about it Having therefore arrived at the hotel exhausted and in pain I was not in the best frame of mind and in a mood to be a right Karen about the rest of the hotel. The room was fine, though it did take me 24hr to find the hanging space and hairdryer. It could do with someone where to put cases thats not the floor and a USB plug for device charging. TV channels limited to 1-5 and no radio stations, however the rotating chair was good and the shower excellent. No decaff in the room, though I expect that could have been found at reception, if I had had the energy left to make it back there. Bed was clean and comfy enough, though oddly close to the wall on one side? Air conditioning so complicated that it needed its own instructions at check-in and it wouldn;t go below 19C, which to me makes it a bit pointless. All in all what could have been a lovely weekend spoilt.

Lovely location. Very handy for all York attractions. On the negative side, the fitness centre was out of action, the parking was very expensive and the room was too hot.

Stayed here for one night with friends and very happy with the hotel overall . Staff were pleasant and helpful. Room was clean and bed was quite comfortable. The breakfast was ok- lots of choice and they had gluten free options. It’s a 5-10 minute walk into the Centre . Parking is in the multi story a hundred yards past the hotel - if you get the hotel to stamp your card it’s reduced to £17.50.

The only thing that let the hotel down was that parking was not convenient, however it is expected in a city centre location.

Clean, quiet, wonderful breakfast. Great service. Bar serves good food. Walkable to every where I want to go.

A comfortable hotel where the staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast ok but a little generic. The hot items were a little dry. Parking is in a public parking lot a short walk from the hotel and there is not designated drop off area at the hotel. Its only short walk to the old town making it very convenient and thankfully it had aircon for the warm summer weather.

Gym not available. Parking ticket verification machine shows red light when in operation causing user to retry, clear instructions needed. Not everyone likes seeing rainbow flags everywhere.

A nice new, clean bathroom. Lovely clean room. Comfortable, spacious single bed and a huge TV. The breakfast had great choices, was tasty and the hot food was hot!

The room was spotless, the staff we delt with were friendly and efficient. Comfortable beds and a quiet room even though it was at the front of the hotel, there was very little traffic noise. Would stay there again if i visited York again.

Beautiful room with a huge TV , very clean, very close to city center, lovely staff and helpful.

Property was very clean and tidy. Modern furnishings. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would certainly have no problems using again.

It was very central and very clean

Had a really fantastic stay at this hotel. Check-In was easy. Rooms were really really clean and the whole place just looked spotless. On top of that, very friendly staff, a fantastic breakfast and a good bar. What more could you want? I was booked into another large chain hotel but changed to this one at the last minute. I'm so glad I did. Very convenient for the station.

Absolutely lovely stay, hotel clean and great breakfast included. Would have given 5* across the board had we not been left without toilet paper on our last day. I had to help myself from one of the service trolleys.

All staff at this hotel were very friendly and helpful, Breakfast was good with everything you would expect on offer but we had to wait for a table as all were in use when we came down for breakfast. Our room was clean but had a strange smell in the bathroom and the room was cold even though we put on the heating using the pad on the wall. Overall a good stay just a couple of niggles .

Excellent service Room very clean

Your staff are exceptional. The hotel needs a deep clean, we had to ask to be moved from our room it smelt stale and dirty. We also didnt require a disabled room. Not value for money and certainly not the standard we have experienced from Hilton hotels. We enjoyed York and thanks to the superb staff we had a good couple of days. We wouldnt choose this hotel again for value.

Convenient location to the town centre. Parking not on site but nearby at NCP car park. Bed was hard, view from bedroom window looked straight into office building. Water pressure on shower was appalling so didn’t bother washing my hair in the morning. Cooked breakfast was bland. Would not stay at Hampton at Hilton again.

Mattress springs are noisy affecting sleeping.

Stayed for 2 nights, room was good and liked the fact the air-conditioning could be turned on and off. Good black out curtains as well. The complementary breakfast was excellent and yes it gets busy due to all guests having this extra but there's plenty of signs to tell you the best times to go. The hotel is on a good location quite close to the centre and within walking distance to the train station.

One of the two rooms smelt pretty bad of drains. The windows would not open and temperature hard to reduce to something comfortable. Sheets not cotten but a poly cotton.

Room was nice but mattress was very hard and woke up with bad back.

Contant humming noise fron external air con

Basement room provided, windows facing an area accessed by council staff to get to their offices - we also had what I assume were hotel staff members cycling past our windows and were able to look in. People walking along the pathway on the higher road above were also able to look down into the room. Room interior was nice but we had to have the curtains closed a lot of the time.

Lovely clean hotel with nice stag. However the room we stayed in was so cold at night I couldn't sleep. The duvet was very thin and the heating/air con was broken. We only realised this after getting into bed and after our daughter fell asleep, so we couldn't get anyone to come to look at it at that point. Told the hotel the next morning. They thanked us for letting them knorw and apologised fir the fact I hadn't been able to sleep and had an uncomfortable night but that was it. Other chains would've offered a refund so not impressed that there was no goodwill gesture. Shame as other than this the hotel was nice.

The person servicing out room, spotted an anniversary card and made a beautiful heart and swan decoration out of towels - such a thoughtful gesture!!

Usually, we like Hampton Inn. Unfortunately, this one has some incompetent and indifferent receptionists. 1. Thermostat in room did not work. We were freezing and called the reception around 9:30pm. She said someone would come by and check. Noboday came. After an hour, we called again. She said she would try to adjust it from the reception and would call us back. We also asked for extra blankets. We never heard back, and since we were exhausted, we gave up. 2. Website mentioned "on site" parking. Well, there is no on site parking. That was the reason why I chose this hotel. The girl at check-in did not know where the public parking lot was. She said she was unsure. She said it was on the right, and then on the left of the street. We were confused and stressed because we were eager to rest. We finally found it, and it is down the street, on the right. When we got there, we were told it was reserved for the Grand Hotel guests. We got out and and drove back. We were very lucky to find an NCP lot about 50 yards before the hotel, on the right in front of an old brewery. We parked there for the night fir £14. Park there if you want a more convenient parking space. The breakfast was ok, but some areas were messy/dirty (pancake station) and the whole place was very busy. It was a zoo. I could not wait to get out of the hotel.

I stayed here once before on a work trip some years ago, which is why I chose it this time. I had asked for the hotel to recommend a place to get cake for my wife as the reason for our trip was her birthday. I never got a response, however, there was a note in the room wishing her a happy birthday. The room was nice and clean. The young lady allowed us to check in a little early which was very much appreciated. I can't remember her name, but she had a nose ring. Breakfast was great and when we come back, we'll definitely stay here again.

This was our 2nd stay at this hotel. The train station is literally 5mins walk away. This time we found extra short cuts i.e.: its quicker to walk the wall to get to the castle than through the streets (we didn't miss anything in the streets this was when we were meeting friends). Everything In York centre is in walking distance from this hotel. its so quiet at night to enable a good nights sleep. The staff are so friendly & helpful. You can't go wrong with the buffet breakfast lots to choose from hot & cold food. will be staying again.

Breakfast was great, staff was nice and the location was perfect. However, Housekeeping left our door open by accident and it stayed like this the whole day until we came back late at night. We're lucky that nothing was stolen, but this could've ended very differently... That's why I can't give a higher rating.

Great efficiency from the staff. Attentive at all times

We was happy with the hotel food etc, BUT the bar staff need more training specifically the female that was on. She said she was training but had no idea what I was asking for, so in that a trainee should not be left alone to deal with customers, someone should be on her shoulder all the while when in training

Hotel was lovely and staff friendly

From the time Caitlin booked us in until we checked out everything was first class. Friendly and informative staff A breakfast that catered for everyone. Clean and fresh room and bathroom. Would stay there again.

The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from The station. It's new, clean, and a short walk into the city centre. The staff were pleasant and friendly. The complimentary breakfast was excellent with a very good choice. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is great and well located for town and the train station. It's just a shame that the street it's on is a bit run down.

We stayed here for one night and that was enough. Although the hotel was clean and in a good walking distance to the centre, the lack of food options is appalling. One of us staying has a milk allergy and doesn't eat meat so was very limited as to what we could have. I contacted the hotel before so they were aware but still no other options made available. Breakfast consisted of vegan sausages, beans and a slice of toast. Considering the price of the hotel I expected more. Extremely disappointed. The restaurant menu was also appalling

Poor breakfast

A clean, centrally located hotel. We paid for two family rooms. The sofa bed wasnt very comfortable but the room was clean and enough space for three of us in each. Breakfast was super busy and we had to take our food to the bar to eat. We ate around 8.30am and some items were scarce including bread, bagels and cutlery. We had our evening meal in the bar the first night. One order was incorrect and we had to send one back as it was cold.

Good location, friendly reception staff. Super parking discount. Room nice and clean, Air-Con didn’t work right, desk light didn’t work. The only downside is the breakfast area seems to be too small. When we went for breakfast around 8:45 there was no room. This is a know issue as it states in the broacher that ‘eating earlier’ is advised. You can still find table anywhere in the foyer and use that, so that’s something. All in all, I would recommend and use this hotel again

The property is close to the train station and walkable to all the sites. Our room was modern, clean, and quiet. The staff were friendly as well. Breakfast was okay, but would have been even better if there were more vegan options like yogurt and porridge. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfectly clean hotel. Efficient check-in, friendly helpful staff. Good selection of cereals and fresh fruit at breakfast. Plates for hot food on the small side, not quite big enough for two slices of toast. Would also prefer a choice of eggs rather just the scrambled option.

Perfectly lovely for a quick overnight stay in central York. Breakfast was good but we went at peak time and it was crowded with not enough tables and not big-enough tables!

The hotel is well located and the breakfast, though not amazing, is quite reasonable. For a short stay in the city it's more than enough. Only downside is the size of the breakfast room. I felt the space was too small for how big the hotel is, but nothing a little wait can't solve.
