A lovely property overlooking Plaza Herrera in the Casco Viejo area of Panama City. I will say, prior to staying there, I was a bit concerned about several reviews that claimed there was no hot water...oh my God! They were SO wrong! Not only is there hot water but the shower has such great pressure that I nearly got whiplash! Swimming pool is a nice, serene area and there's a small gym on the 1st floor. One curious thing, however, is that both the hotel's bar and restaurant close ridiculously early--like 6:00 p.m. so the restaurant doesn't serve dinner--no problem since there are so many restaurants around, but odd. Loved the central location, so close to restaurants, the historic churches and museums. Not a ton of shopping in Panama City other than for Panama hats and chocolate.

The American Trade hotel is a spectacular place. Great location; walkable secure area. Lots of shops,restaurants and rooftops. The hotel has a pool on the 3rd floorwit views of the city. Check in and check out smoothas can be.

I would stay here again. This is a great hotel in a wonderful location. The staff is excellent. I loved thr bathroom rain shower. The food in the dining room is reasonably priced and delicious. The club attached to the hotel is very intimate and we saw a great show. Good food and drinks too. The pool is a wading pool and has a couple of missng tiles. The church bells across the street ring from 630am to sround 10pm. Casco Viejo is a great place to stay. It was like the New Orleans French Quarter but cleaner and without Bourbon street.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable with bright with bright white soft linens. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. Also, we’ve never stayed anywhere where a pool is open 24 hours. Where else can you have a late night swim with some cocktails. The hot water takes some to come out of the pipes however it’s well worth the wait. They have really nice bath soaps and creams. The area is ideal with amazing restaurants nearby. I would stay here again in a heartbeat

Lovely hotel and great staff. Clean and well located. Walk everywhere or Uber. One thing lacking was the pool. Totally noninviting. Slippery tiles to enter (no rail) and in middle of pool many tiles were completely missing.

I love the hotel and the location and it was very busy. But - the room was not comfortable at all. The chairs look good but they are the most uncomfortable chairs and the bed is made fine but it is simply a 6" pad on a platform. I never found the bar open but did manage to get a waiter to come to the bar and make me a drink. The restaurant was not open on Sunday night. Receoption was excellent.

Great little boutique hotel in a great part of town. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the pillows are devine. I would definitely stay here again if I come back to Panama City.

ATH itself is a gorgeous hotel! I love the natural elements in the design and the perfect mix of classic and modernity. I was very disappointed in room service and mentioned it to the front desk upon checkout. Room service would come and do nothing but replace the free waters. Towels were left on the floor in bathroom, coffee pods weren’t replenished and empty glasses and coffee cups were left and bed wasn’t made. One day I had to flag room service down after they had been to the room to ask them to remove trash and items and clean. Really unacceptable and disappointing. Some of the wait staff kept looking at me like I didn’t belong there and at least two of the front desk attendants. I thankfully I don’t experience this often but when I do it’s very obvious and hurtful. As a business owner who travels the world it’s important for me to keep note of these things. I was prepared for the level of colorism in Panamá among certain groups though. For the most part, people in other areas were completely lovely and I was happy my limited Spanish made it easy to navigate the landscape. While some things were unpleasant, I want to give special mention to Érica and the bar staff and Irving (doorman) They really went above and beyond and while I won’t be back to American Trade Hotel, they were exceptional and I would definitely have a drink with them when I return :) thank you

Overall, it is a lovely historic building. Our room was on the top floor directly across from a church tower, bells are loud and ring often, especially on Sundays. We could also hear loud music late into the night from nearby restaurants/bars. Ear plugs are a must. The floor was a bit dirty and we had no hand soap. Bed was quite comfortable if a bit on the hard side. The food in restaurant was inconsistent. Breakfasts were very good but dinner was not great (meat so tough, could not eat it). They did take the meal off our bill. Front desk and door men all very helpful.

Nice hotel in the historic center, lots of things to see and do; restaurants, bars, shops, easy to get around by Uber or taxi. I only had one complaint, my bed sheets had a stain; I did not mention to the hotel because I only stay one night but for the price I wasn’t expecting it.

I appreciated the interiors were a perfect mix of history but fresh. Did not feel old and stuffy. The staff was great and helpful. But the best part was the shower water pressure and hot water !!!!

I loved my time here. It's clean, perfectly located right in the middle of everything. That being said... it's loud. They do give you ear plugs so use them if you need them. Not only is there alot of partying noise from the nearby venues, but the church behind there starts their bells at 6:30am and seem to just keep going on and on. If you are a light sleeper, pls consider this.

After several weeks of research on hotel review sites we decided on staying at the ATH for a family vacation to Panama. Overall we must say our stay surpassed our expectations and we would definitely stay there again. Location: Being smack in the middle of Casco Viejo, we enjoyed the antiquity of the surroundings. It was next door to a great little square and a fantastic church. It was easy to get an Uber from the airport and from the hotel to anywhere else in Panama City. There were numerous walking location restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries and a convenient small grocery just across the street. Its a 15min walk to the Metro, that was convenient, cheap and on time. We thought the walk was safe but may be subjective based on your travel experiences. Room: The room was spacious and quite high ceilinged. Comfortable bed and our room had an accessible wrap around balcony. Convenient for a morning or afternoon coffee or glass of wine. Good wifi signal and speed and a useful smart TV. A bar with fridge came in useful. Some previous reviews complained about noise around Plaza Herrera. We are deeper sleepers so that didnt affect us, though on weekends you were likely to hear the music extend into early morning hours. If you are a light sleeper we recommend you ask for a room facing the church instead of the park as that might reduce the volume a bit. Staff: Did everything to make our stay comfortable and informed. Xtra thanks to Arturo who was Excellent in making our stay great!

Overall, it is a lovely historic building. Our room was on the top floor directly across from a church tower, bells are loud and ring often, especially on Sundays. We could also hear loud music late into the night from nearby restaurants/bars. Ear plugs are a must. The floor was a bit dirty and we had no hand soap. Bed was quite comfortable if a bit on the hard side. The food in restaurant was inconsistent. Breakfasts were very good but dinner was not great (meat so tough, could not eat it). They did take the meal off our bill. Front desk and door men all very helpful.

Beautiful room with balcony with view of Merced church. Church bells rang in the New Year with fireworks in background—it was magical. Room is spacious and clean and gorgeous. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Food is excellent. Best hotel we’ve stayed in a long time.

I loved this hotel for the location and decor. The bed was comfortable and the staff were so welcoming and helpful. The food in the restaurant was also fabulous, we had dinner and a few breakfasts. The location was great for exploring Casco Viejo. The only downside is the loud music coming from a hotel across the way until 2am. They offered to move us to the other side but there are church bells… so best to pick a room based on whether you're a night owl or early riser!

Gorgeous, renovated colonial hotel in Casco Viejo, Panama City. The rooms were wonderfully spacious, the accommodations were luxuriously, comfortable, and the hotel staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. The area around the hotel is very easy to walk with lots of restaurants, cafés, museums, and souvenir shops. Traffic in this corridor can be a little difficult but taxis and ride-shares abound. We would happily stay here again upon our return to the city and will most definitely recommend it to family and friends alike.

I will start by saying how accurate my decision was to finally book this hotel for my very first visit to Panama City - a real piece of history, almost like being in a film set. From the welcoming message I received after making my booking to the friendly and kind reception I was welcomed with on the evening of my arrival and during my stay, the American Trade Hotel did not fail my expectations. Everything I had requested them beforehand, including the possibility of a room with a balcony for my sister and brother in law who were travelling with me, was made available to us in the kindest way possible. The two rooms who were adjacent to each other had fantastic views onto the main square in the area, Plaza Herrera, as well as the Cinta Costera, the sea, and other interesting buildings. We felt absolutely fortunate with our rooms, and for this, I couldn't be more grateful to the hotel. Numerous could be the positive things that I could keep adding on like the location within the historical Casco Viejo, the excellent restaurant in the hotel so as the variety of choices in the area including cafes and bars, but nothing beats the very friendly and welcoming attitude of all the staff, and particularly Kevin who was the one to welcome us on the evening of our arrival. One little thing that I may have found not completely perfect was the fact that the temperature of the air conditioning in my room seemed to fluctuate during the night but it wasn't a terrible inconvenience at all.

El hotel muy bien, el servicio bien, saliendo en el check out pague 17 dlls por lo que había consumido en el cuarto durante mis días, en teoría cerramos el voucher, tengo el documento que ellos me dan por ese monto, y al día siguiente me cobran 537 dlls en mi American Express, hablé y solo me dijeron que harían la devolución de ese cargo y al día de hoy sigo sin recibirla… me parece pésimo que te hagan cargos sin tu consentimiento.

Lovely boutique hotel in the old town. Room was nice and spacious. Had a problem with hot water on the first night that was promptly fixed but recurred the next morning. This was quickly resolved by being moved to a different and upgraded room, where everything was fine. Staff was great, especially Andrea at the front desk, who was fantastic, promptly resolving the above issue and had great recommendations for the area. Both rooms were great, lovely balconies - both rooms were church side (Church of the Mercy, quaint baroque church). No problems with the church bell on the hour (ear plugs are part of the bathroom amenities) — though light sleepers may find this problematic as the room lets in some outside noise. Church side is a lot quieter than the Plaza Herrera side - except for the church bell. Will stay here again.

The staff at the desk was slow at check in. Another party had an issue and both employees devoted their attention to that while we waited.. We had a late lunch 2:30 and the it was very slow.. even for Panama. Perhaps mid afternoon is a minimal staff period..

What a great hotel in a fabulous part of Casco Viejo! The staff was amazing and attentive. So friendly and helpful , right down to the door man. The location right across from Plaza Herrera was perfect for people watching and had many great bars and restaurants in the area. You gotta stay at this hotel!

Very nice hotel but the front desk is not qualified and not willing to help. They recommended a very bad seafood restaurant. Additionally they arranged a guide-who is not aware of anything . The guide kept messaging during the whole tour and when we ask a simple question like what is the history of a place his answer was I do not know.

Wow. We were so impressed with our stay. The service was unbelievably good -- from the front desk to maid service. Everyone was super (and sincerely) friendly and made very interaction a pleasure. We have traveled first class through other foreign countries, and this was equivalent. We loved that the hotel is also a piece of the history of Panama City, and the location is absolutely where you want to be as a first-time visitor. Easy to walk to fantastic restaurants and security was always present (due to proximity of the Presidential Compound) -- but not in an uncomfortable way.

Staff was excellent from every transaction we had with them. Very friendly and helpful. Only stayed 2 days yet the staff knew us and greeted us when we saw them. The room was great. A little cold but they helped us regulate the temperature.

This was our first time in Panama and our first time staying at the American Trade Hotel, which has a heritage building designation. What an amazing hotel! It was clean, safe, centrally located in Casco Viejo and the staff were always available and willing to provide guidance on places of interest to visit in the City. As it was a special birthday for my spouse, Aldhair Diaz and Estefania Martinez were very instrumental in getting me sorted with a bottle of Prosecco for the room on our arrival to which they added a scrumptious brownie square with fresh fruit. The staff remembered my spouse's birthday and there wasn't a shortage of best wishes from them on the day. Again, another scrumptious brownie square with fresh fruit was dropped off at the room for the birthday celebration. We were very appreciative to all the staff for their attention to detail and friendliness. A special shout-out to Luis-Armstrong who was a wealth of knowledge on the history of the hotel and general Panamanian History.

The people working there were very nice an attentive. The only con is the bell ringing of the church right next to the hotel. It starts at 6:00 am everyday, everything else is awesome.

I loved my time here. It's clean, perfectly located right in the middle of everything. That being said... it's loud. They do give you ear plugs so use them if you need them. Not only is there alot of partying noise from the nearby venues, but the church behind there starts their bells at 6:30am and seem to just keep going on and on. If you are a light sleeper, pls consider this.

After several weeks of research on hotel review sites we decided on staying at the ATH for a family vacation to Panama. Overall we must say our stay surpassed our expectations and we would definitely stay there again. Location: Being smack in the middle of Casco Viejo, we enjoyed the antiquity of the surroundings. It was next door to a great little square and a fantastic church. It was easy to get an Uber from the airport and from the hotel to anywhere else in Panama City. There were numerous walking location restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries and a convenient small grocery just across the street. Its a 15min walk to the Metro, that was convenient, cheap and on time. We thought the walk was safe but may be subjective based on your travel experiences. Room: The room was spacious and quite high ceilinged. Comfortable bed and our room had an accessible wrap around balcony. Convenient for a morning or afternoon coffee or glass of wine. Good wifi signal and speed and a useful smart TV. A bar with fridge came in useful. Some previous reviews complained about noise around Plaza Herrera. We are deeper sleepers so that didnt affect us, though on weekends you were likely to hear the music extend into early morning hours. If you are a light sleeper we recommend you ask for a room facing the church instead of the park as that might reduce the volume a bit. O hotel é muito bonito, bem conservado e com um staf super gentil e pronto a ajudar. O quarto é espaçoso e muito confortável, porém na sexta-feira e sábado à noite, o nosso quarto era em frente a uma praça com um bar no terraço de um dos restaurantes perto. A música era muito alta até de madrugada e isso foi o único inconveniente desse hotel. Se não fosse por este detalhe, seria simplesmente perfeito.

A lovely property overlooking Plaza Herrera in the Casco Viejo area of Panama City. I will say, prior to staying there, I was a bit concerned about several reviews that claimed there was no hot water...oh my God! They were SO wrong! Not only is there hot water but the shower has such great pressure that I nearly got whiplash! Swimming pool is a nice, serene area and there's a small gym on the 1st floor. One curious thing, however, is that both the hotel's bar and restaurant close ridiculously early--like 6:00 p.m. so the restaurant doesn't serve dinner--no problem since there are so many restaurants around, but odd. Loved the central location, so close to restaurants, the historic churches and museums. Not a ton of shopping in Panama City other than for Panama hats and chocolate.

Wonderful historic hotel. Breakfast was not included in my rate but for $10 per person, the breakfast was amazing and cooked to order. Great location and nice pool area. Very helpful front desk staff. Definitely want to stay in Casco Viejo to experience the old Town of Panama. We will return to Panama and to this hotel.

We loved this property! Not only is the location perfect for a visit to old Panama, but the property itself transforms you back to an old era of elegance and beauty. The staff are wonderful and the dining options wonderful for a stay.

I would stay here again. This is a great hotel in a wonderful location. The staff is excellent. I loved thr bathroom rain shower. The food in the dining room is reasonably priced and delicious. The club attached to the hotel is very intimate and we saw a great show. Good food and drinks too. The pool is a wading pool and has a couple of missng tiles. The church bells across the street ring from 630am to sround 10pm. Casco Viejo is a great place to stay. It was like the New Orleans French Quarter but cleaner and without Bourbon street.

This was my second stay at the property. I gave them a second chance. The property is beautiful and has lots of character . My issue this time was the restaurant closing at 6:30 , and room service was not available. It was an inconvenience to have to leave the property. I also did not have hot water , but I was given a new room . Going forward I will just stick with the Sofitel Panamá hotel

Beautiful room with balcony with view of Merced church. Church bells rang in the New Year with fireworks in background—it was magical. Room is spacious and clean and gorgeous. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Food is excellent. Best hotel we’ve stayed in a long time.

The ATH was lovely - dark wood cabinetry and walls in the room, beautiful large tiled bathroom and elegant common areas like the library and patio, lounge, and pool area. The pool was small, but a perfect place to cool off in the humid afternoon or evening - private and quiet too. The desk staff was especially friendly and helpful; I had two early departures and they arranged for my breakfast to be boxed up, and even accommodated my gluten allergy! The location in the Casco Viejo was wonderful too, being no more that 10 minutes walk from all of the museums, churches and eating spots in the area. Would definitely book again!

The hotel is marvelous, a true hidden gem in the middle of Panama City. Beyond the spotless rooms and the comfortable, well cooled space, what really set this place apart was the staff. They went above and beyond in a way I did not expect and will never forget. When something came up unexpectedly, they handled it personally, followed through on every single promise, and stayed on top of it long after most places would have simply moved on. That kind of genuine, no excuses hospitality is rare to find anywhere. I left completely at ease, knowing I was in the best possible hands. If you want a clean, welcoming home base in the city with a team that truly cares about its guests, this is the one. I could not recommend it more highly, and I will absolutely be back.

Great location and staff, beautiful maintained old style classic hotel. My third stay in three months, absolutely love the place! Had my family stay on this occasion. Two sons in separate room and they loved it also, my wife now knows why l rave about the hotel and Panama as they are visiting from Australia. Keep up the fantastic work team.
