The spa was very nice, but the baths were only open free to hotel guests between the hours of 8-10 am and 7-9 pm, which was difficult to schedule around breakfast and dinner times. It cost 70 pounds (about $95) to use the baths for 2 hours outside of these two time periods unless you booked a spa treatment, which were very expensive. This restriction should have benn made more clear when making a reservation. Had I known this, we likely would have stayed at a less expensive hotel and booked time at the Therme Spa, which cost 42.5 pounds for a 3 hour session and has more extensive bath options.

Nice hotel but not at all family friendly. That wouldn’t be an issue if they warned you but they don’t - we got to the pool with the kids in their costumes ready to be told it’s 16+ only. The hotels.com listing just says “pool” not “pool for adults only” - misleading advertising

What an amazing hotel - bang in the middle of Bath, prestigious, andxwhen you take into account access to the Spa, the breakfast and complimentary goodies, this is an amazing 5 star experience at great value. We will be bsck next year with family!

Lovely hotel, nice rooms, great service and breakfast, really convenient for shops. It's a shame the facilities are limited to over 16s, whilst advertising family friendly with a swimming pool. Apparently it's not a swimming pool and is a spa pool available for over 16s only. Recommend hotel for adults exploring Bath, but not a family hotel.

Excellent service. We dropped off our bags early and they went in our rooms already when we returned later in the evening. The bath was the highlight of our stay with different saunas and small pools besides just the main large bath area.

It is a beautiful Hotel staff excellent and very attentive . My room was immaculate and very comfortable. The only issue I had was it was quite a journey to get to the room up and down stairs and along corridors as in a separate building. So anyone with a heavy case or difficulties walking was not a good location, I had a heavy case so location of room was not great. Also my room was very noisy and both mornings got woken up at 5.00am by the noise outside my room. I know I had the cheapest room but for the money it did not feel luxurious ,which is a shame as the Hotel itself is fantastic and the Spa is amazing.

We chose the hotel as a birthday treat. Its location is fabulous and for me, aircon is essential in Bath at this time of year. The room had huge sash windows and a view of the Bath Spa! We actually used the hotel’s spa on two occasions. This is a real plus for the hotel and they do it well. It’s well equipped, beautifully clean and attractively laid out. There’s also a reasonable gym on site but we just didn’t have time to use that too. The room was a nice size, the bed was extremely comfortable and it was very clean. My only niggles were about staffing levels. There seemed to be only one person on the evening desk and when we rang down for extra milk, nobody picked up and we tried several numbers, numerous times. I also think the decor is in need of a refresh, given that it’s a smart hotel in a beautiful city. Having said all that, we did have a lovely time there!

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The staff were all really friendly and very helpful, providing just the right level of attention. The afternoon tea was nice, as was the spa area. There is a little wear and tear around the thermal bath, and some areas of the room weren't especially clean, but I would return.

We cannot fault this hotel after our 2 night city break. Every inch of the hotel is spotlessly clean and maintained to a very high standard . All the staff we encountered were all polite, friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble as they genuinely wanted you to enjoy your stay. Our room was an executive room which was an upgrade to the deluxe one we had originally booked however the hotel had called a couple of days before arrrival to offer to upgrade for a nominal fee so we thought why not. Again all spotlessly clean and well looked after even though the buildings are listed. The spa facilities and gym are both well equipped with the spa being available exclusively to hotel guests at certain times of the day. Whilst we did not done at the brasserie we did have a very nice cocktail in the bar. Whole hearted recommend this as a hotel right in the middle of bath, close to all the main landmarks.

The stairs were stained and dirty throughout the building. The bathroom was also dirty. The bed was really droopy in the middle and also very bouncy every time you moved on it. The rooms are located on a busy street with people Shouting outside until 2.30am. You have to pay EXTRA £70 per person to use the on site Spa facilities at a normal time. Which is a Bit of a Con after paying £350/night for a room identical to a Premier Inn room…

A stunning hotel conveniently located in the heart of Bath. Quiet and luxurious, and a perfect escape for couples. The bedrooms are impeccably clean, very spacious, quiet and comfortable. The spa is free to access between 8-10 am and 7-9 pm. We used the spa at 7pm, as did most other residents, however it wasn't too busy and was a lovely space to unwind before dinner. The cocktail bar has a good selection of spirits and drinks, and the lounge is relaxing to to enjoy them in. Note hotel parking is £40/day (not £21 as per the advert); we paid for parking in Southgate which is safe and £18/24 hours (alternatively Park & Ride is £2/day). Overall this was a fantastic hotel and we would recommend and return.

We stayed here as part of are minimoon, we would not normally pay the price for hotel but pushed the boat out . On first look all seemed ok ,but then found the door stop in bathroom was not attached to the floor was lent up on skirting board. The socket for plugging the kettle/coffee machine into couldn't plug all the way in ...not sure if broken or fault...2 light bulbs not working in main light fitting ...this is a 5* hotel . Having said that the hotel was lovely, warm ,clean and all the staff we're friendly and helpful. All food was off excellent quality .

First rate hotel with a unique experience in being able to enjoy the “waters” of Bath within the hotel. Very conveniently located. The air conditioning in the room did not sufficiently cool the room on the 22C days we were there, but the windows opened, which helped.

Hotel trades off the Spa, but the bedroom maintainance is way off what I'd expect from a 5* hotel. Wardrobe sensor light sensor hanging from inside, meaning light permanently on and next to bed, incapable of sleeping. In room phone didn't work either, meaning a late night trip to reception in person to complain. Ended up having to move rooms but placed on the main road with crowds of people until 3am partying and shouting. Latter not hotel fault, but bizarre to have a room literally onto pavement with such a rowdy street. The toilet flush couldn't stop in new room. All in all a very disappointing stay - and lacking the other basics you expect of a 5* establishment. Robes thin, slippers cheap, no papers anywhere. Would recommend saving the expense and booking somewhere cheaper and going tp the Thermae Baths instead if you really want to use the natural springs.

While the location of the hotel was excellent, we were quite disappointed with the room we were allocated on the ground floor near the street. The noise from workers early in the morning and people returning from nearby pubs at around 3am resulted in very disturbed sleep across our stay. Considering the price we paid, this was well below expectations and negatively affected our overall experience. In the future, we would recommend allocating quieter rooms away from the street for guests, or providing clearer options for room selection when booking.

Loved everything about it, BUT, why was there no place to put all our folded clothes???? A hanging closet with hangers did not work at all for my friend & I. We stayed in a gorgeous room & spent all our time in a room with luggage spewing all our clothes, looking on our knees on the floor in the stacks of clothes. Why is there no place to put your clothes?? Sweaters, socks, underwear, T-shirts Bathing suits, etc.. A huge mess our entire stay. This makes NO sense. We were NOT happy!!!!

Having the spa water directly to my hotel bath was a luxury and a worthwhile experience. Only downside was the noise in the street which ruined a night in a very comfy bed. Unfortunately a listed building so windows can not be changed to double or triple glazing.

The staff was really nice and the hotel was historic and unique with the spa pools available to hotel guests at certain hours of the day. The one thing that didn’t go well was a leak in the ceiling of our room. They came to “fix” it twice by wiping down the pipe in the ceiling. The third time, they put a towel up there which stopped the dripping for a little while but soaked a piece of wood trim which fell from the ceiling when it got too heavy. The dripping was very annoying but they responded every time we called and they were really nice about it. Unfortunately, it was never fixed for the three nights we stayed there. No offer to reduce the rate or give us a hotel credit. Kind of disappointing.

The third time, they put a towel up there which stopped the dripping for a little while but soaked a piece of wood trim which fell from the ceiling when it got too heavy. The dripping was very annoying but they responded every time we called and they were really nice about it. Unfortunately, it was never fixed for the three nights we stayed there. No offer to reduce the rate or give us a hotel credit. Kind of disappointing.

The Gainsbourgh: a hotel in the best location in Bath, inside a gorgeous building reberbished with refine taste and the plus of a hot spring pool in the spa area. Unfortunatelly with no "soul" at all, hard to believe in a city like Bath that is so distictive. We spend there 4 or 5 days last year and decide to come back for 6 nights during Fall (and the 250 years of Jane Austen) but leave disappointed of a staff that can't care less about the well being of the guest. 15.000 km away from Home, an architect myself and having been in Bath 5 or 6 times it's a pitty. The front desk large ammount of people seemingly doing very little did not once a "have a nice day"! Not even at departure. The 2 waiters (???) at breakfast who where there last year do not have a clue of what they are doing. Not that there's too much to do because £ 40,00 breakfast each was poor: lack of quality, few option, bread so hard it was imposible to eat, and a cook who still provides boiled eggs (hard or not, take your chance) instead of a proper poched one. I took my time reading about the history of this new hotel and could not help but wonder if the owners are aware of the kind of "concierge" service they provide. As usual lots of them! From the gentleman from Barcelona (where our family roots are) had the very bad taste of telling my sister :" su amiguita hoy no se levanta"!!! This hotel has found a new regular guest in me. Exceptional experience from start to finish. Despite being an extremely frequent traveller, I am appalling at writing up reviews however I had to write one for this stay. Now, I have stayed at the hotel before - however I was heavily pregnant and so not able to fully make the most of my visit. This time however, I was here and ready to enjoy! The service? 5/5. The spa? 5/5. The room? 5/5. Location? 5/5. Thad a great time, and am intending to book in monthly stays for my wellbeing. If you are lucky enough to be able to, why not? A shoutout to Chris in the bar who made my evenings just that little bit better. The whole team are clearly trained very well, and are here to make your stay relaxing, and easy. We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights, it doesn't feel like a 5* hotel: - I booked spa treatment, my only request was for an intensive, deep tissue massage, but the masseuse was just stroking my back for an hour for £195, for this price you expect a good massage at least. I was asked to fill the questionnaire first to mention expectations, well, it was either ignored or not read at all. I told this at the reception after and I was told the manager would contact me but nobody contacted us or mentioned it again. - we were waiting for our breakfast for more than 30 minutes, meanwhile there was no food left in the continental breakfast - no ham, cheese, or even a croissant, etc! There were empty plates. We were sitting and waiting for food and the food was just average, if you have a choice - don't buy the breakfast in the hotel, it's better to have it in one of the local cafes and it will be much tastier! - parking costs £45 pounds a day - I had to spend an hour working in the Canvas Room. I ordered tea, they brought me a used tea strainer with tea leaves in it. I had to ask for a clean one. Well, the room was nice. Overall it's a poor service and experience and really overpriced.

We are very fortunate to have found this hotel in Bath England. From the moment we arrived until the minute we left the hotel staff, services, cleanliness and spa kept us smiling. I highly recommend this hotel for couples looking to find the perfect hotel in Bath. We stayed in the executive room and had plenty of space for our suitcases + lots of closet and storage space. The only negative I found with the room it has a bathtub that you must step into that is a couple feet off the ground. I would not recommend this room if you are not comfortable stepping in and out of a high tub in a tight space. Hotel customers get access included with their stay to the mineral bath spa every morning for a couple hours in every evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. I highly recommend anybody staying at this hotel take advantage of the beautiful spa each day. We did not order any food but visited the bar one night and got exceptional service from the bartender. The hotel is centrally located and only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the train station. We would definitely stay here again should we choose to return to Bath.

The Gainsborough has a beautiful spa area and is very centrally and conveniently located in downtown Bath. The hotel stocks all rooms with soft drinks and water in the mini fridge (a nice touch), and the breakfast offerings are excellent, including both a continental buffet with a cooked to order option. The bar area of the hotel is small and was not well stocked during our visit. Also, some of the staff seemed new and unfamiliar (although polite) with the property, but the concierge as well as the front desk manager, Howard, were wonderful, and made what was a good stay into a great stay. The concierge's restaurant and tour recommendations were wonderful, and the front desk manager assisted our party of four with an issue we encountered with a rude and arrogant guest. The professionalism he demonstrated in handling the situation was commendable. We will be back.

I have one slight gripe (which some may find odd) - on arrival they took a £100 deposit from my card, Ive been to many hotels were they take the card and charge it to that if you use anything, but here they took £100. Fair enough I thought, is what it is. However, on departure (checking out ready to go) they refunded £72 and told me the amount taken was ‘kind of a tip for the staff’ but ‘if I wanted they could also refund this’. Now while this is a first World problem, it’s a bit cheeky tbh, like you have to ask, and you’re guilted into paying, with no idea where this goes and who gets what, while at the same time you’re checking out and want to go, so very unlikely to say ‘yes, please give this undefined tip back to me because the £270 a night Ive paid wasn’t enough’ Anyway, amazing hotel save this one aspect.

Set in the very centre of Bath, this hotel is ideally situated. It was a very late booking for me and I was initially drawn in by the available parking, but because I didn't receive the welcome email as I was already on my way, I missed pre-booking and never discovered what this was, having to park in a nearby underground park for the two days I stayed (£36). The hotel accessibility is very easy if you're NOT driving, but difficult if you want to unload outside (Road works when I was there) although the walk from the underground car park to the hotel was very easy with a wheeled case. Once in the hotel, everything is superb. Very polite & friendly staff who remembered my name (Something I could never do!), the rooms are spacious, bed large and comfortable, there is a Pod coffee machine, gown and slippers available. My room faced a quiet street, got the sun and was lovely. Let's be honest though, the main draw of this hotel is the fact there is a Roman Bath and Spa underneath. Guests get to use this free of charge for two hours in the morning and evening and you get full access if you have a spa treatment. Even during a free visit, it is never particularly busy, and the warm pools and saunas are a unique joy that are worth the extra you may have to pay over other hotels. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Gainsborough and don't think you can go wrong with this hotel if you're staying in Bath. Recommended.

Lovely hotel, nicely furnished room. However our room on the first floor was quite noisy. Soundproofing could be better as we were both woken earlier than planned by noise from outside. We also had afternoon tea in the restaurant. The food was excellent however the service was slow and at times non-existent. People who sat down after us were served before us and a request for an an extra round of sandwiches (which we would have happily paid for if required) was met with a flat “no we don’t do that”. Definitely far below 5* levels of service, which was a shame as the quality of the food could not be faulted.

While the location of the hotel was excellent, we were quite disappointed with the room we were allocated on the ground floor near the street. The noise from workers early in the morning and people returning from nearby pubs at around 3am resulted in very disturbed sleep across our stay. Considering the price we paid, this was well below expectations and negatively affected our overall experience. In the future, we would recommend allocating quieter rooms away from the street for guests, or providing clearer options for room selection when booking.

The hotel is in a great location, quiet and off the beaten track, but still only a 3-minute walk from the Roman Baths, Pump Room, and Abbey. Also easy walk to the Circus, Royal Cresent and other major sights. All the hotel staff were remarkably friendly and attentive. The spar is excellent in every way, but don't expect to do any serious swimming - the pool is too small and hot - great for relaxing and un-knotting those tight muscles but not working out.

We have just stayed at this magnificent hotel. The staff were very attentive and polite and couldn’t do enough for us. The food and breakfast was amazing with a huge choice for all tastes. The bedrooms were exquisite with beautiful marble bathrooms and comfy beds that made you feel like a queen for the night ! The spa was excellent. We stayed at the Gainsborough after walking the entirety of the Cotswold Way. It was the perfect ending place. Luxurious accommodations, outstanding service staff, delicious dinner, and the spa experience made it a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable stay. The location is also fantastic being close to the Abbey but not in the high traffic area. Highly recommend!

This is a regular stay for me and always enjoyable. Service is generally excellent and the spa is fun. My only criticism this time would be the cooked breakfast- nasty puck like hash browns and not a great sausage. I expect better given the level of service elsewhere. Stick to the continental brekkie.

Old school unique hotel. note, NO parking, and if you have a car, finding you way around the tiny one way Bath city streets to park your car in some random lot is challenging! Especially as the GPS doesnt work so well there. But. There's nothing like this place anywhere. Oh and another thing, the cooked English breakfast was 40 pounds, and easily the worst I have eaten for a while. Go out into the city for that!

Generally an older property. For $800 pounds a night I would have expected a lot more. The rooms were not nice and the breakfast was below average. Would not stay again.

Booked through Hotels.com. Sadly the room advertised wasn’t the room we felt we got. Booked executive got deluxe. Room was nice. But very high windows which unless you were 6ft you couldn’t see out. Room was well decorated. Bed was very comfy. Nice temperature in room. Bathroom was nice. Room was a little dark near desk for getting ready, Breakfast room looked very nice. Well laid out buffet. Breakfast looked lovely but a little cold. Coffee was great. Would like to stay again. Hopefully it would turn out a little better. Didn’t use the pool facilities.
