Historic Salyards Mansion by Heirloom Boutique Collection

Extremely icy driveway and walkway. Was dark and not lit the best. The shower head flew off the shower too. They had said they’d send maintenance for that and the walkways but didn’t. The place was absolutely beautiful. The room and bed were fantastic. I would still go again

The property was not maintained on the outside of the mansion. The grounds were unkempt. The front looks nice from a distance but needs repairs, paint and landscaping was awful. Talked with two other guests who were moved to the carriage house because of a mix up in reservations. Carriage house did not meet their expectations. Would not have Orbitz recommended this property.

Beautiful decor in main area and in private rooms. Very quiet. It was strange to not ever meet a person, either when checking in or checking out. Everything is done online - convenient. Great correspondence when helpline called. The outdoor walkways were not cleared of snow, nor were the steps.

Truly a unique experience that was worth the premium price. We stayed in the Lake Superior Suite, which was the main floor of the Carriage House, behind the main building. A wonderful perk of the suite is the massive private deck overlooking the property. It was close to main roads, which made for easy navigation around Duluth. The area itself is very serene and made for great after dinner walking and site-seeing.

The exterior could use some TLC, but overall, our stay was very nice.

When cking in at night, no signs lite up to know what house. The outside grounds could use TLC with weeds grass clean up. No one to ask questions, no staff. T.V. didnt work and no WiFi, called and they said someone will call or fix.Nope!!! 2nd day, not sure what happened but coffee wasnt on. Tight quaters parking, but was ok. Loved our room and patio, clean and quiet except for the constent beeping from door codes from people in and out. Can those be shut off? Easy area to find things. Comfy bed. Morning breakfast items was nice. Wish it was back to a B&B...or at least a host on property. P.s. in booking let people know its through a company not called by Mansion name. I almost thought it was a scam when they called me, not recongnizing the name. We went through expedia, didnt recognize Heirloom name. Over all we enjoyed ourselves.

The room was very nice. The bathroom fan didnt work so that was disappointing. Its also weird checking in with no one there. Lighting outside didnt work all the time and very dark getting to the front door especially with work being done to the steps. The bed was very comfortable and the tv room was nice to have. Very cool staying in a mansion. Appreciated the booklet with the history.

Offsite management staff was first class from making reservations to assisting me on site despite accidently locking myself out of my room. Totally my bad. Thanks to some helpful guests with cellphone access, I was back in my room and on my way in less than an hour. Loved the location of the property. Beautiful neighborhoods and easily within convenient walking distance to Congdon Park. Only downside I saw was the bldg could use a freshen up on the exterior. It's a beautiful home. Why not maintain it as well as the interior? Definitely a great place to stay in East Duluth.

First of all they switched our room from the “mansion” to the carriage house at the last minute due to a broken air conditioner- which was disappointing. We asked about gluten free breakfast options and the person we talked to had no idea if that was an option. The grounds were pretty tired and somewhat run down but the room was fine and parking was good. We spoke to the person on site about the room switch and lack of gluten free option and within an hour we had a bottle of wine and gluten free treats delivered to our room! We were shocked! It really turned our whole stay around. Well done!

The property was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Great location in a very beautiful neighborhood. Perfect for a quiet two night stay. We were very pleased with our stay.

Wonderful old house, the room decor fits the style of the home, it’s older but well taken care of. The house and the rooms have so much character and everything was very clean. We stayed in the Edwin Hewitt room and loved it. The clawfoot bathtub is cute, the bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. We loved the balcony, we started our morning out there enjoying the coffee and pastries and ended our evening sitting outside. We would definitely come back.

Definitely a nice option for anyone traveling on a budget. The room and common areas were beautiful, clean and comfortable. It was a little noisy with creaky old floors. Bed was very comfortable.

This was my second time staying in the ryerson suite. The tub is wonderful we saw plenty of deer outside, good parking. The bed is comfortable. I loved the provided shampoo etc. I did have a few issues this time. Many ants on the window sills, the bathroom and above the fireplace. Im sorry to say it but the worst hard tiny pillows. Consider investing in some nicer and king sized pillows. I also experienced a lot of noise compared to last time. The room next to us sounded like they were moving furniture around at 10pm. There were also thundering little feet in the halls much of the evening. I thought that the rooms were all 2 person only occupancy. So I was surprised to see a family with 2 little kids as the source of all that noise. That being said I’d still stay again. Probably bring my own pillows though!

They use lock pads on the doors for access, the door to our room was difficult to get to lock (had to pull the door towards you to get it to lock properly). Then we were leaving to go to dinner and the batteries were dying on the keypad and it set off a low battery alarm that proceeded to go off for 45 min extremely loud and we weren’t able to lock our door for over an hour because there’s no staff on-site at all so we had to call the assistance line and they said they would call us back in a couple min and 40 min later I called back and they said the maintenance guy was on his way ….but he lived 30 min away. Our room was as expected but there was hair in the shower from the last person who stayed there, there was water left over in the ice bucket from the last person, and used plastic utensils under the bed from the last person as well. Overall the room was cute, the bed was super comfortable, it was nice they supplied Netflix and Hulu but when we tried to watch there were too many people on the account so it was useless for us, but I’d like to warn anyone that there are no staff onsite which made our stay aggravating at times, and I think the cleaning crew should pay a little more attention to detail, and the NOISE TRAVELS IN THIS MANSION you hear creaks and conversations from the rooms around you. Not to mention someone has a baby that cried for 2 hours during the night during our stay.

The Salyards Mansion was an elegant and peaceful stay. It felt like we were back in time. The room was super clean. We will definitely stay here again in the future!

I loved the room. So comfortable & charming. My only complaint would be the bedsheets. Dingy & needed replacing. White bedsheets should be white, not a strange shade of beige. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

I loved this place! I stayed in the Brûle retreat. The room and furniture are beautiful antiques. The coffee and pastries are delicious. My favorite thing was the jetted tub right next to the bed. There are plenty of towels and nice bath products. The only thing I would change is the location of the tv. I would have liked to watch it from the tub or even the bed, but it’s in this weird corner that you can only see if you twist.

The property was absolutely gorgeous. Every room in the house is beautiful. I stayed in the Ryerson Suite and it was spacious, and lovely. There was a cozy porch and sitting area with a tv that I sadly didn't have much time to spend in though it had a beautiful view of the grounds. The view from my room allowed for a peek at Lake Superior and a gorgeous sunrise view. I would love to stay there again on my next Duluth visit.

I have enjoyed my stay in this hotel and will definitely returned to stay in the same hotel if I ever travel to Duluth again. The room is very beautiful, comfortable and clean. I like the interior regency decoration of the room.

All we can say is WOW! Very beautiful rooms! The jetted tub was a great relaxing point after a busy day. The beds were very comfortable! Super clean! Will definitely stay here again!

There was lack of transparency by Expedia on the room. We believed we were booking a room in the mansion but learned at check-in that was not the case. The room was located in the carriage house not the mansion. It was clean, unique and comfortably laid out. We slept very little the first night. The wall air unit wasn't working so the 2nd floor room was overly warm. There was a noise from the roof that continued through the night. Maintenance resolved both issues the next day.

Nice restored mansion with small, but comgortable rooms. Private bathroom & tub/shower combo, with small frig/freezer and coffee maker. A plus was the pot-belly gas stove for warming on cool Duluth mornings & evenings. Overall, very comfortable. Brule Retreat room was up one flight of stairs.

Never saw 1 person from the staff. Had to make mutiple phone calls just to check in and recieve a codes for the doors. Pastry was from Sams club and was not fresh. However, room was nice.

A great old mansion, well managed by an offsite company. No hosts onsite

Really beautiful home. Was nice to just walk up and down the street and look at all the historic homes along with the view of the lake.

It’s very close to the lake but not quite walkable if you don’t mind a short drive. It’s quiet and very relaxed. Anytime we come to Duluth from not on just the two of us this is where we will stay! The Lake Superior suit was absolutely beautiful and perfect for a getaway.

We had a lovely visit to Salyard’s Mansion in Duluth! The Ryerson Suite, and the mansion itself, was charming and cozy. As a “boutique hotel” it’s NOT a bed and breakfast. They did have coffee, tea, yummy homemade muffins, scones, etc. in the foyer in the morning. The living room was decorated very nicely and the all-season porch had places to sit and visit. The building felt safe with codes to enter, and we were free to come and go without bothering anyone. Our suite had its own sitting room and fireplaces in each room. Dozens of small touches made our stay perfect! We will be back to Salyard’s Mansion!

It is NOT a bed and breakfast as advertised and felt taken advantage of that by the listing. It states it is a boutique hotel but our bed was never made up daily, towels were not exchanged and only one creamer in the room. NEVER saw a staff person. The room was cramped as too much was in it

It was ok. I don't think it really is what I think of as a "boutique hotel". This was a former B&B, so it's basically a nice B&B without breakfast. I will say it was nice having coffee downstairs in the morning, but either have some good pastries or don't put out at all. The very dry mini-muffins and little scones were not great. Luckily we got a good deal, and some of their other properties look worth checking out. Service was great though- they were very responsive to my texts. I think if I was paying weekend summer rates, I would have been disappointed. So overall, not bad - just not great.

The coffee and pastry service was really poorly done. There were no instructions for heating or air conditioning usage. Everything was very average. Nothing to make me want to go back.

I wanted to stay somewhere nice other than a basic hotel. The Salyard Mansion came up in my search. I had never heard of it and was very pleased to reserve a room for 2 nights. It was beyond my expectations. We stayed in the Ryerson Suite and was totally impressed that we had a separate sitting /sunroom area. Very cozy to relax in the evening by the fireplace. We enjoyed the coffee and pastries in the morning and sat in the mainfloor sunroom and in the evening sat for a bit in the huge living/sitting area by the fireplace. This boutique hotel is very quiet in the beautiful Congdon area of Duluth. We heard nothing, so peaceful. The kingsize bed was very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.
