Crowne Plaza Plymouth by IHG

We stayed in a premium sea view room which had plenty of room for 2 adults, 1 child (who was very pleased to have a whole sofa bed to herself!) and a baby. Baby cot was set up as requested on our arrival. Hotel was clean and comfortable. The pool was really nice and good temperature. We enjoyed a few free bits and pieces from the lounge bar - including milk for baby bottle (very handy). Location was perfect - right next to the hoe, with a Tesco express shop just round the corner. The only tiny thing was that the travel cot was very firm/hard - we added a towel underneath the sheet (baby 18 months) and she slept fine. Overall a great experience and we would definitely return!

Good clean hotel with great service from all staff we encountered. Room was comfortable and really clean with good good views over Plymouth on 10th floor. The shower pressure wasn’t great. Liked the leisure facilities and the restaurant on the top floor again with excellent views. The breakfast was delicious with good selection. Reception staff greeted us well as did staff in restaurant. Also cleaning staff on 10th floor (Eleanor and another lady) were super. Would definitely recommend staying here with a fantastic location, and parking available.

Easy to find, sufficient parking and great area for facilities. Check in simple and staff friendly. Only one loft working which was a bit inconvenient and not possible to use stairs with two small children and pushchair: bags etc. We didn’t eat at the hotel but restaurant bar looked nice. Pool was open till 8 and had a good view across Hoe. Could have done with a clean as some areas of the pool tiles were green and there were Ants residing in the corner by chairs. I would stay again as so convenient and room was huge with comfy large beds.

Handy hotel near the Hoe with added benefit of pool and sauna only complaint would be our room on 10th floor was very noisy from the restaurant above late in evening and early breakfast.

Good hotel. Friendly service. Breakfast good. Pool and gym suitable for a few nights stay. A few issues - parking at £15 a night is ridiculous. 2/3 lifted not working which when breakfast in on the 11 floor is not good. Noise from the barbican area can be very loud. Standard rooms a good size, but bathroom very small.

This crown plaza was excellent in every way except the underground car park which was very tight as the number of damaged concrete steps and posts testified to. no doubt a regular user wold have found it easier. My sensors were going at every turn. Maybe not the best driver but this was difficult. On the plus front i can't see any damage so passed the test

Really friendly and helpful staff. Bar a bit pricey but nice ambience. Car park very tight spaces. Fantastico view from breakfast/ restaurant with a good mix of help yourself buffet continental and cooked breakfast with some cooked to order extra which was great. Bed really comfy. Enjoyed our 3 day stay. Just a bit gutted as we had plans we didn’t get to use the pool or spa much.

Great location, harbour, centre, external amenities all in walking distance. Staff really polite helpful. Memorable view from the breakfast restaurant on the top floor. E V charging points in underground car park a real plus, though cumbersome to access logistically due to shortness of cables and financially requiring app download. Staff found lost sunglasses and returned them via post, great service.

Well located, comfortable hotel next to Plymouth Hoe. The room was large but the bathroom was a tad small, but very clean. Good view across the Barbican and I could see my car in the hotel car park. Nice lobby area where you can get a drink and a snack. The breakfast area is on the 11th floor with great views. The pool and sauna are a pleasant place to relax. My only criticism is that the air-conditioning was rather noisy.

Carpeting was stained badly and worn. We had a dead fly on our shower wall for 2 days. There is no shower door so water goes all over the floor

I found hotel comfortable clean and spacious. Staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Our room was in need of refurbishment in the bathroom. Missing tile. Dirty grout in the bath area. Cracks on sink , big piece wood missing on bottom bathroom door. We stayed for 2 nites for hospital appointments. On returning to our room , it hadn’t been done. Even though we had been out for hours , no towels bed not done no replacement refreshments. At the prices we pay I expect better. I am 61 years old and tbh, have stayed at this hotel originally since I was 15 years old with my parents. This is the 1st time I have had a complaint.

We have stayed at Crowne Plaza on a number of times while visiting family and have been very happy. However, it is now looking tired and the service is not so good. Lots of niggles: Room extremely cold on check in, had to put the heating on then go to the bar while warmed up; no shower gel in shower which never got filled despite reporting it twice, the washbasin is blocked, window dirty obstructing view in restaurant, long wait to get served at bar, decor tatty in places. However, clean, comfortable and an excellent breakfast

Amazing stay at the Crowne Plaza, from our rooms being ready early, the cleanliness of our adjoining rooms, the friendliness of all the staff we really cannot find fault. Breakfast buffet was plentiful with extras like pancakes and porridge being available to order at no extra charge. Beds & pillows super comfy, our 10 year old gave the sofa bed 10 out of 10 for a good nights sleep. Lovely fluffy towels & robes too. Ideally situated for exploring the city on foot, underground car park right but manageable even in our people carrier. Pool lovely and clean too

The hotel and staff were nice. The food was ok. Room 318 was adequate. Stains all over the carpet. The nets had holes in them. The bed was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very small. The power from the shower was very unsatisfactory and very unsafe. Switching from very very hot to ice cold in seconds. Sadly I cannot upload video evidence of the pressure of the shower but all I can say is the pressure from the tap was much faster than the shower. The shower was also above the bath taps so in order to use the shower you had to lean precariously over the taps to reach. The bath itself was stained and the bath plug was full of hairs. I would also say take care when stepping out of the shower/bath as the doorstop is very close to the only place you can get out. I was expecting a lot more from this hotel but I have stayed in cheaper B&Bs with a higher standard of room..

Great hotel in a great location with amazing views. Unfortunately the windows are so dirty I couldn’t see out very well at the amazing views. The windows also create noise when windy. I was staying on the 10th floor. Unfortunately you are under the kitchens for breakfast and the restaurant so early morning and until the restaurant shuts in the evening you get a lot of noise on the hard floor above, luckily I had earplugs. Air conditioning /heating in my room didn’t really do anything apart from be noisy and I was quite cold. Breakfast was fantastic. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Lovely swimming pool. Bar stayed open late. The hotel is in a great location and near to everything. If you come by train you can get a bus to the centre of Plymouth from the station rather then a more expensive taxi. There’s a Tesco very close for essentials and lots of places to eat nearby. All in all really good just don’t stay on floor 10.

Very bad, mold everywhere. Old rooms everything out of date. Not worth it's money. Last time a booked this hotel. It is dirty and disgusting the state the rooms are in.

Breakfasts and dinner were excellent. Our room was spacious and had a superb view over the Hoe.

We stayed in the Standard Room with 1 King Bed and a Sofa Bed for 2 nights. The room was spacious and comfy. Their underground carpark was a bit narrow but very convenient. Also like their penthouse restaurant which has an excellent view.

We had a great night away. Room was spacious. Comfortable beds. I did feel our room was a little cold. Had a lovely breakfast looking out at the Plymouth Sound.

Very happy with the room, the size was fantastic and the view of the hoe was great. Had a great nights sleep and staff where courteous and approachable. looking forward to my next stay.

The hotel was excellent, it was in prime location for the Hoe and also the town 5 mins walk away . Would highly recommend anyone to use this hotel, only draw back there are no drawers in your room for clothing , there is a big double wardrobe with a iron and ironing board.

We had an executive room with access to the lounge. The room was large with a super king bed, but there was hardly any storage space for our belongings. I had to ask for extra hangers but our clothes were squashed in and there were no drawers, not even in the bedside cabinets. The bathroom was so tiny we couldn’t get in it together, and the door wouldn’t open past the toilet. It was super clean though. The lounge was not as good as others we’ve been to and we had to have breakfast in the main dining room as they didn’t do it in the lounge. The hotel is in a good position, right by The Hoe.

Perfect after a long day travelling. Quiet with beautiful, spacious rooms and lovely beds. Safe and welcoming to a solo traveller.

My room was very cold on arrival and i had to call maintenance to get the heating to switch on, once it was switch on i realised that other guests must have switched it off because it was very noisy and kept beeping so had to switch it off to get to sleep. Also avoid rooms on the 10th Floor below the kitchen. I was woken up at 5.45 but the kitchen staff starting to prep for breakfast., So all in all a very poor experience.

Went to hotel for a night away with the kids. Room was big enough but with two young kids, we were placed in Room 401. Directly opposite the lifts where everyone seemed to be very loud, including at 3.30AM!!!

Huge room. Well equipped, clean & comfy. Staff very welcoming.

Great hotel with very clean, quiet and well appointed rooms. A five minute walk from the Hoe which offers fantastic views and waterside dining. Very close to the Plymouth Gin Distillery (I recommend the tour and tasting). The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay for future visits to Plymouth.

Obviously understaffed and those working very stressed at the pressure being put on them. Food constantly running out on the self service breakfast bar. Had to wait ages for bacon and never got any mushrooms. Long queues for everything. Great shame because everything else was great except for one very rude barman who didn’t like giving us extra t-bags for our room!

Check in was messed up as they had lost one of our room bookings, despite having received confirmation both from Expedia, and the hotel. There is now only one price for Breakfast; £19.95 covering all options. That's a bit pricey!!! However, the main restaurant was excellent.

Great hotel one of the best I have stayed in. Staff are amazing and treated like a star.

On arrival was continuously reminded that I won’t get my ihg points as I booked through another provider. Patronisingly told that my room is very good on a high floor etc. given 10% off for dining, which I did not need. On going up to room my key did not work. Back down to reception. On arrival in the room if was freezing. Putting they heater on generated a noisy heater. I also noted that the window was no sealed properly and let cold air in. I tried to get room service however there was no phone in room. I went to order at the bar and asked for it to be brought up to my room to be told there would be a £5 tray charge. I declined the charge on the principal that I had to go downstairs to order it. Phone arrived in room. Nights sleep was poor as room was noisy from heater and shower was barely more than a leaking tap. On check out i said my price with what I thought of the room to which the ‘manager’ seemed surprised and did not want to do anything about. Great way to teach a regular visitor to the hotel I reminded reception that I had a pre booked taxi the day before however they then smugly said there was 40-45 minute wait. I had work appointment to get to which I had left plenty of time. After 45 minutes of waiting the manager says that the taxi was cancelled. Absolutely brilliant way to ensure a customer returns. I missed my hospital appointment for work so would like to thank the crowne plaza for making this possible. No instruction on how to make an official complaint.

20 minute queue to check in did not start the trip well. 2 receptionist, 2 guests receiving attention and then myself in the queue. 20 minutes just not good enough. Concierge sat at her desk, no guests to deal with fully aware how long I was in the queue. Another member of reception staff kept popping her head round but no attempt to help out. Very poor.

Great location next to Plymouth Hoe. Easy for access to this and enjoying the sights

Great hotel in a great location, a few minutes walk from the bars and restaurants and only a few minutes walk from Plymouth Hoe. Be careful in the carpark though its really tight in places!

Another fantastic stay, we have stayed here multiple times and have always had a great time, the location is excellent and it’s a lovely walk to Sutton Harbour and The Barbican through the Hoe park and along the coast and it only takes 10 minutes.

The hotel is in a good location for everything, once you have parked your car you can walk anywhere. The hotel staff were very friendly and polite. Excellent view, very relaxing stay

Great hotel and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Had a nice meal and amazing breakfast in the Marco Pierre white restaurant with a lovely panoramic view of Plymouth Hoe and out to sea . My only criticism would be the evening meal in the Marco Pierre restaurant was not at the standard I expected because my the Cod I had with my meal was tasteless . I would highly recommend this hotel and would book again .

With booking an executive room we were invited to canapés and drinks between 5:30pm and 7:30pm. We couldn’t use the lounge in the first night and the second night we were told that the chefs had no time to prepare any more food and four trays of food had already been served, meaning that we didn’t have the complimentary food. We had a long wait in a queue for breakfast the following day with some food not available, pastries and fruit.

The only bad thing was breakfast. Some choices were cold, ie black pudding and bacon.

The temperature outside was 24degrees. The air conditioning would not go below 19 degrees, they gave us a fan, and told us to turn the aircon’ off, the fan was very noisy, which they did replaced. We had breakfast, which was very disappointing, sausage skins were like leather, the scrambled eggs were a congealed lump and the bacon was very greasy. We had a meal in the ‘Marco Pierre White restaurant, my wife’s steak was very bloody and tough. My Ribeye was not medium as requested, but medium to well done, not what I expected from such a prestigious chef’s restaurant. Overall my wife and I we disappointed in our stay. Not what we expected from a 4 star hotel.
