Where to start. We attempted to get the car parked on arrival. No idea where to go. You basically have to go into the basement of sainsburys car park and find a portal into the Copthorne area. To make things more challenging, it’s dimly lit and not signed. We did about 20 circuits of the car park before we finally spotted the right area. I then paid £13 for 24 hours so we didn’t need to face the ordeal again. Got to the room. It was incredibly dated. The bathroom must have been from the 1970s. No mixer taps. Shower curtain on an ancient shower above a bath. Tiny twin beds. Sad digestive biscuit offering. Drab colours. Everything outside was either grey or being dug up. This was a trip purely of convenience and I’d never recommend any kind of holiday here in a million years. Pros - it’s clean. It’s near the city centre and station. It wasn’t even cheap. Didn’t bother with breakfast for an extra £22!

The public areas have been updated, and the room itself was good, but the bathroom (rm 300) was outdated and tired. No Air conditioning in the room either, just a fan. Given this was a "hot" day, we had to open the windows to get some non-sniffling air on, but then you get the traffic noise. Staff were good though. Car park was hard to find. I broke this hotel based, partly, on parking. They didn't say it is an extra £9.... you can pay to stay overnight in Sainsbury's car park for £7.50... which we weren't told.

Car park difficult to find due to city centre improvements currently in progress. Spaces also quite tight. However parking was free due to the disruption which was a welcome bonus. Check in was simple and quick. Staff friendly and accommodating. Communal areas of the hotel very impressive and modern. Rooms spacious and well equipped, however they are quite dated. But definitely value for money, quiet at night so complaints. Would stop if down for the weekend again. Area is very central so plenty around. Great location for events in and around the city.

The hotel itself was enjoyable, including a good breakfast, but the exterior approach and the different entrances was confusing and not attractive. Hopefully this might improve once the adjacent landscaping project is complete. Location is good in terms of adjacency to tue station, university, the Box, and city shopping, restaurants etc.

Check in was very easy as i had already done the online check in before arriving meaning all was ready for us. The room was lovely and spacious, it was clean and comfortable. There was an empty mini fridge in the room which was great for storing snacks and milk. The breakfast was lovely, it was buffet style but auper fresh, the staff were all super attentive and busy. The car park is situated behind and under the hotel, its a secure carpark woth roller shutters

Me and my wife arrived thurs 2nd Nov, We were very impressed with the hotel found it very strange that we had to go upstairs to reception. As i had a mobility scooter it was impossible for me to get up the stairs. The rooms were adequate the real issue we had was the bed was far to small The food in the restaurant was very nice and the staff were excellent very polite. It would of been nice to have a lift in the car park to all floors. After all that we had a very nice stay

Exactly as I expected from the other reviews. Very clean, friendly staff comfortable (enough) beds. Breakfast was super fpr the price. Free coffee machine (cappuccino, latte, hot chocolate, hot water, coffee) available in reception. Tea Service in room. Excellent city center location right across from the University.

The hotel was tired, worn and in need of some work. Whilst the bed linen was clean the decor in the room was very tired looking, tiles chipped, broken and dirty in the bathroom and not really acceptable to present to guests in this condition. Generally disappointed

The hotel was good value for what we paid. It is convenient for the railway station and for the Theatre Royal. The room was very dusty, there was a thick layer of dust on the bedside lamps and other surfaces. At least the bathroom was clean.

Our stay at the Copthorne ok. The staff at the hotel were very lovely! The room itself was dirty. The carpet wasnt vacuumed and the bathroom had used floss on the sink! And the hand soap was empty. I did have a breakfast which was lovely but felt guilty treating myself as one of the staff memebers pointed out "well this is a lot of food for you" I did read reviews beforehand, and i can only guess that it was a one off and bad luck.

We had a very pleasant stay. The hotel was very quiet and the room was adequate for our needs, although the cleanliness wasn’t great, the surfaces were very dirty, used socks under the bed and long dark hairs on the chairs and bathroom floor.

I want to start by saying the front desk staff were lovely, even when everyone was asking them a million questions about the fire alarm going off at 10pm, but unfortunately the cleanliness let it down. The bathroom had mould and rust in it, the shower made a high pitched screaming when used, and the mirror had cracks in it. Just to add to the experience, the lift display on my floor also didn't work. The underground private parking is also a nightmare to find and I was driving around for ages trying to work out how to reach the entrance for it.

We had a nice room and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was too hot, but we opened the windows and turned off the radiator. The duvets were too hot, so we had to throw them off. Parking was useful.

Great location, lobby and restaurant refurbished and welcoming. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms on the other hand absolutely horrendous. Beds were tiny with rock hard mattresses and one equally unforgiving pillow each. Decor hasn’t been changed since the 80s (so expect 50 year old bizarre fake grey wall tiles in the bedroom, and bathrooms which need tearing out). The lingering smell of cigarette smoke from the old carpets was grim and added to the overall feeling of neglect. Don’t waste your money here, there are plenty of other great options in the City.

The hotel is very clean and each member of staff throughout were superb. Courteous, attentive and looked professional. The bar area is really nice with a good selection of drinks. The food in the evening I had fish and chips. It wasn’t the best and the cooked breakfast was a 3/5. However there was a very good range of food in the evening and breakfast options. This is just my opinion and it shouldn’t take away from your decision to stay as the cleanliness, staff and location were all spot on. Room is spacious and has everything you need although a little tired in decor and the fridge a little noises but unplugs of your a light sleeper like me. For value for money this hotel would be 10/10 and it really is made by a very good team of employees throughout.

Very friendly welcome and helpful at reception. Had a free drink in the bar… server was abrupt and not knowledgeable about what she was selling. Breakfast good and there was a lovely helpful lady serving, nothing was too much of a problem. Hotel could do with a refresh but ok for one night.

There was a 20+ minute wait to check in. For such a simple process it seems to take some people absolutely ages and there were insufficient reception staff to manage the drawn out process. When I finally got to reception the member of staff was helpful and efficient. I also object to the use of American spellings on the email requesting a review and the appalling spelling on the dinner menu. A clue is in the peas. One pea, two peas and no need for an apostrophe.

I have stayed here a number of times. Unfortunately on this occasion the hotel did not have a record of my booking. The receptionist was very helpful but even with the help of the office and hotel manager it could not be found despite me showing my confirmation email. This was quite embarrassing although eventually they booked me in having still not been able to confirm my reservation. Obviously a glitch in the system.

I have stayed at this property in a few occasions now and never had a problem until this last time. I slipped and fell in your lobby during this last stay. I was coming in the front entrance and slipped in the damp carpet and floor in the main entrance in the loby. I lost my footing and fell on my left side. I also hit the left side of my head on the wall in the lobby. I went up to my room shaken and called the front desk. No one ever came to my room or checked on me afterwards. The next day I informed the person in the lobby what had happened. She said oh you called. Then asked if I was ok. That was it. I wish the staff had taken things a bit more seriously. No one ever checked on me after it was initially reported. After the incident I did experience bruising to my head, left knee and arm. Thankfully there was only bruising and pain. I just wanted to let someone be aware. Other than that I enjoyed my stay as I always do. Thanks.

I found this hotel very good. The restaurant staff were very good and the food was excellent cooked to order. It was in my opinion better than The Marco Pierre White restaurant. The down side to my stay were the road work noise outside the hotel.

Fixtures and fittings are dated and it isn’t glamorous, but that’s reflected in the price. Suffers at present from being at one end of stalled city centre redevelopment. My room afforded a view of a car park, diggers, fencing, hoardings and felled trees on Armada Way; the car park will remain but the rest of that prospect should improve over time!

The hotel is clean & the staff are really friendly & helpful. The reception,dining room & bar is very modern but the room we stayed in was quite dated. Also @ the moment there is a lot of building work going on outside the hotel & the road you take to go in the hotel carpark is very difficult to find. An Advanced warning by email would have been very helpful.

Great location for visiting the Uni and underground car park had sufficient space. Room didn't have aircon though and was really warm, with the windows open it was a little noisy from traffic and party people! Breakfast was great.

The dinner was excellent, freshly cooked, hot and delicious. Breakfast, as always in hotels, gluten free is not great, toast is always the small sliced version! You can get normal size slices! The first room we were given was far too noisy due to the broken kitchen extractor fan! When we complained it was obvious we weren’t the first to ask for a move! Fix the fan! Staff were lovely and helpful. The hotel,is ideally located for getting around without needing the car if you want to stay central. Would definitely book again

The hotel itself was enjoyable, including a good breakfast, but the exterior approach and the different entrances was confusing and not attractive. Hopefully this might improve once the adjacent landscaping project is complete. Location is good in terms of adjacency to tue station, university, the Box, and city shopping, restaurants etc.

The hotel is very clean and each member of staff throughout were superb. Courteous, attentive and looked professional. The bar area is really nice with a good selection of drinks. The food in the evening I had fish and chips. It wasn’t the best and the cooked breakfast was a 3/5. However there was a very good range of food in the evening and breakfast options. This is just my opinion and it shouldn’t take away from your decision to stay as the cleanliness, staff and location were all spot on. Room is spacious and has everything you need although a little tired in decor and the fridge a little noises but unplugs of your a light sleeper like me. For value for money this hotel would be 10/10 and it really is made by a very good team of employees throughout.

All staff were friendly and kind, but still managed to middle things up. Your website states your restaurant opens at 5PM. I had multiple communications from the hotel (emails & texts) offering services, so I pre-booked a reservation at 5PM as we were attending an event at 6. The receptionist at check-in didn’t seem to know about our dinner reservation, but cheerfully reassured us she’d call down to confirm our reservation for 5PM. When we arrived at about 4:55PM, the restaurant was dark and shut. A girl at the bar then tells us it doesn’t open till 6! We notice others around the bar eating, so my wife had to ask how they were getting food (it wasn’t offered or explained). The bar had a lesser menu and did not offer what we had planned. All the prices were a bit steep, especially the drinks. Bottom Line: Everyone seemed very pleasant, polite and courteous, but the miscommunication really put a damper on the experience.

Breakfast was very poor. Fruit selection was poor, hot food was all naff and cold except the baked beans, Plates were luke warm that did not help. Not surprised as most breakfast buffets are usually poor. However, some hotels at least freshly cook an egg. The fruit juice quality was also naff, I bought a far better orange juice from Sainsbury's, that was next door!! So if one would like a good breakfast don't stay here!!!! However, room including bed that I stayed in was pretty good. This hotel needs to sort out it's breakfast offering! The hotel (unlike others in Plymouth) was pretty convenient for both the railway and coach stations, which ought to be unique selling point for this hotel.

One night stay for a uni visit - everything was totally fine. the bedroom had lots of space, the bed was firm which might suit some more than others. The bedroom decor was very dated but room and bathroom were clean and functional. Breakfast was great with a excellent selection of continental and cooked. Vegetarian sausages available on request.
