Candlewood Suites - Newark South - University Area by IHG

The stay was okay. I probably would choose definitely next time around. Some of the issues weren’t the fault of the hotel. The exit, street and surrounding area are under extensive construction. Parking was difficult. You need a parking placard from the front desk, but the Candlewood has very little parking compared to the neighboring Red Roof Inn. Thus, you have to park in the Red Roof lot with the placard from Candlewood. I asked the front desk and they said it was fine, but I was very anxious having to park that far from the hotel. Plus, the Red Roof next door was also super creepy, run down and dirty. Lots of noise and people lurking outside and on balconies. As for the room, it was fairly clean, but had a very strong aroma from whoever used the stove previously. I didn’t need a kitchen, but the room was the cheapest. I now know to avoid a kitchen in the future. Bathroom was good. Only other issue was no one came to make the bed or restock toiletries. I’m not picky nor did I ask if that was normally the policy thus I have no right to complain.

Had a kitchen. Free laundry must purchase detergent. Thiese were a plus. Bed was comfortable. Only thing was shower curtain too short & water got onto floor. Should replace with sliding doors as the rod being lowered won't help with someone tall Sorry no breakfast. They do sell food in convenient grocery in lobby

The stay was magnificent. It was my first time travelling for work, and I chose a hotel close to the office I would be working at. To say I made the correct choice is beyond an understatement. Not only was the kitchen a great feature to have, but the entire hotel room was comfortable. The bed would provide a great sleep. The options of both firm and soft pillows (I like both!) gave me exactly what I look for in a nights rest. But by far the greatest part of the stay was the staff. Whether it was when I forgot my key, and they were more than understanding and happy to make me a new one, or when I needed to book one more day, and because I had booked via another site, they had to run through a few hoops and didn't mind doing so, even ensuring I had the same room so it wouldn't be a hassle. The laundry room, which was free and didn't require me buying quarters, came in very handy before my flight. The hotel guests were friendly themselves which is a telling sign of the hotel. Overall, when I travel again, it will be with an IHG hotel.

I have stayed at this hotel many times. the last time was in January. The carpeting still needed cleaning. There is a lot of road construction in the area and a lot of the businesses have closed but the liquor store is still open

The parking was a problem. Upon checkin during the rain the nearest parking was quite away from the door. no drive up a nd parking close by. there was no lift or carraige to help bring luggage in so several trips to car were not desired. Dinn't know that house cleaning was a weekly thing.

The luggage carts were terrible and the hall had a strong funky smell, but the staff was very friendly. Great deal for the price.

Its was a good clean property, but not enough parking spaces. I had to park far in the red roof inn and walk over. The building needs more parking spaces, other than that great stay.

Limited parking, had to fill a form at check in. really unnecessary. Elevator floor was squeaking.

Check-in was seamless. Room clean but parking was a hassle. Some construction equipments took large sections of the parking lots.Location is good just right off I-95.

Bugs infested everywhere BEWARE ROOM 314

Horrible amount of bug all over linens and fabrics looked them up and they are ventricas mite. Was shown no respect from the woma the man otherwise was very respectul. We showed maintenence workers and maids who said rhey are in everywhere. Told staff immediately but management denied it all sais my fiance had head lice she was the cause. Almost snapped off some limbs and added to my collection. BEWARE!!!!

Clean and quiet but the room had a little bit of a musty smell.

We stayed for one night while visiting UDel. The room had a smell and we were forced to turn off the heat due to the loud blowing sound. But the fridge also made a loud buzzind sound that we were unable to turn off. We would have left, but it was late and we had an early morning tour. We both woke up with red eyes that cleared by noon, but have never had that happen before. There was only one garbage in a cabinet that was extremely inconvienent.

This entire hotel was clean enough to eat off the floor and the room equally clean.

There was a strong musty smell in the hall way. Perhaps the carpet

Staff was good room ok until found roach in bathtub. Some drama around a guest at check in which made us not feel all that safe. Staff was good though

This was the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The room was extremely clean. A 10 out of 10. The hotel had an appearance that it was brand new. The dishes and silverware had a shine to them. The bed was very comfortable and the were crispy clean.

I reserved a room with 2 Queen beds. When I checked in they put me in a single queen bed…. I am very disappointed

The staff was excellent but you definitely aren't paying for a room with a view. Other than that, the room was quiet and comfortable.

When we first checked in, our keys didn’t work. Once in the room, the TV didn’t work. And when we tested the hair dryer, it smoked terribly and almost caught on fire. So we requested to change rooms. The layout of the room was quite nice. But the mattress was lumpy. Nice Dove products in bathroom

Really enjoyed my stay at Candlewood Suites Newark South – University Area. The rooms were super clean, spacious, and having a full kitchen was a huge plus. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the location is perfect for getting around town or visiting UD. Definitely recommend!

Room was spacious and clean. Only here for one night but full kitchen is a plus for longer stays! Would def stay here again

We reserved a 2 queen room. Upon arrival there was only one bed and our daughter had to sleep on uncomfortable cot. Manager blamed Expedia- we have used expedia for years w/o incident. Coffee was awful in room and downstairs too. We were told they would refund 1/2. They didn’t. Am now hassled with having to file claim . Will not stay here again. Do not recommend.

Great staff. Clean comfortable room with full size fridge/microwave,/stove top and a dishwasher. All urensils, pots, plates even a toaster. Great bathroom, comfortable bed

Took too long to check in. Need to have more people working at times like UD family weekend. Could have been cleaner.

Emergency stopover in DE due to traffic and weather. Front desk manager was so helpful. The suite was comfortable and well-appointed. We were able to get a good night’s rest and resume travel in the morning.

Front desk clerk didn’t know what she was doing, got frustrated (semi unprofessional) another clerk had to come and help. My reservation said breakfast included which was only coffe or tea.

They did not have the room that they booked us for. Told us they will comp 1 night. They did not do that. Avoid this hotel.

The refrigerator did not work. I called the main desk and was told it would be checked later. Meanwhile, I had purchased food which subsequently went bad. No one came to check it until the morning of my check-out. He said the plug was out and plugged it in, and commented that when the red light is on, it is working. He fixed it. The man at the desk claimed there was some sort of blackout the day before my arrival. If so, they did not check to see if appliances were working. I paid for a room with a kitchen. I could not use the kitchen because I could not put food in the refrigerator.to cook. I was not offered a refund for a kitchen I was rendered unable to use, nor was I refunded the cost of damaged food. On my first night, I requested whether they could order an Uber when I had to return to the train station. The young lady at the desk said yes. On the morning of my departure, I was told that it was not true. They did not even have a number for Uber. I was told Uber could be ordered from my phone, but I needed to have the app. That could only be done on my laptop, which was already packed. They tried to order me a taxi which ultimately could not be sent because the driver did not come into work today. Consequently, I walked from the motel to the train station, a little more than one mile, with a heavily packed wheeled suitcase. Additionally, there was mold around the rim of the bathtub, and burn holes in a chair that also had part of the fiber scraped off.

I was here for a business trip and found the location to be very nice. It is close to 95 and not far from the UD campus and all the offering of their Main Street.

Extremely overpriced for the hotel. Very shady part of town, did not feel comfortable parking at night. Had to park in adjoining hotel spots where there was undercover police dealing with something. Dark and Dingy hotel for sure. Glad I was there for a short amount of time.

Property was nice but the Red Roof inn next door had unsavory characters walking around. Did not feel safe for my teenage daughters

Clearly recently renovated. Clean rooms, very comfortable beds, nice staff, convenient location. Coffee downstairs was very good - freshly ground. Pantry doesn’t really have anything but snacks but groceries nearby and full frig and cooking setup in the room if you need that. We will be back!

easy access off highway madmacs sports bar next door -NO breakfast options except free coffee - room smelled like dogs had been living in it

The hotel was clean, staff was friendly, slightly expensive considering other hotels in the area offer breakfast for a similar price. Next door is the red roof inn, parking lots are attached. I think they are housing homeless people there.

Nice that there was a full size fridge and cooktop with dishes and pots and pans. We were able to cook our own breakfast, much nicer than most hotel breakfasts.
