Lockview Motel

Centrally located to downtown it’s easy to walk or get a taxi. There is no elevator but there is no shortage of first floor rooms or cabins. The curtains do not fully block light so for a single guy I could work around it but a modist woman will find it disconcerting.

Very clean and well-kept vintage motel located right on the "strip" of touristy shopping establishments. Just across street from Soo Locks; you can see the locks from the motel's parking lot and a very short walk to the observation platform alongside the locks. Had ample outdoor seating around the property to sit and eat outside or chat with fellow travelers. Within walking distance of many dining choices for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Plenty of on-site parking available. Would stay there again without any hesitation.

Excellent location, right across the street from the locks. The small cabins with parking right outside your door is ideal for motorcyclists.

Rooms were clean, staff was friendly and location is excellent. Pet friendly and pet area was clean.

Very clean just didn’t like the sheer curtain over the window. Felt like people could look in. Parking is horrible. But very clean and location is the best across street from Soo locks and front desk person very friendly

The cabins are nice, updated. The parking was the only bummer, you park outside your cabins, but they're not made for a full-size truck. The spots are made for a smaller car and the drive is very tight.

Room was clean but oddly designed. The air conditioner was directly above the bed. Parking was very cramped. I was on the ground floor so whenever anybody walked around in the room above me, the floor squeaked loud enough to wake me.

The hotel is right across the street from the locks and next door to the Lockview Restaurant. That was very nice for dinner and breakfast. We did not eat at the hotel for breakfast because we wanted something more substantial, so I can't comment on the food. The only problems we had with the room were minor. They did not have an area, or a stand, that was big enough to open our suitcase. Also, there is limited shelf space in the bathroom. Additionally, don't expect to actually "view" the locks. On the positive side, they have a nice little set up of a table and two chair outside the room on the walkway. These are outside every room. It is a nice sitting area, but the view is really just the parking lot and the street. I would probably give the hotel a five-star review if they had an elevator. We were on the second floor, and I have some mobility problems, so that made things a little difficult, but we made it work. You just have to walk out of the parking lot, and you can see them and, as I said, they are right across the street, so they are a very easy walk. The "name brand hotels" in the Soo are nothing special. I have stayed in most of them for business. We decided to check out a "no name hotel" and we would definitely stay here again.

Check-in was simple and not a hassle - within 2-3 minutes of arriving at the office we had access to the room. The room was a bit smaller than it looked like from the photos, but it was fine for the wife and I. The room was very clean and, of coourse, our first check was the sheets and mattress - both quite clean and of no concern. Every unit has a little patio space with a little table (a nice little surprise as I don’t think they show that in the photos) and a couple chairs which we used to play cards in the evening. The breakfasts were the usual fare - eggs sausage, toast creal, yogurt, bagels, etc and tasted pretty good (I've had much worse at "fancier" hotels). Tge motel is right across from the locks and right smack in the middle of the shopping district which made for convenient walks to shops, restaurants, etc. The wife and I liked hearing the horn blasts from the ships coming through the locks periodically. Traffic sounds weren't really as issue for us. The one negative I would say is that the walls are pretty thin and you can hear your neighbors conversations pretty easily. Overall, we enjoyed our stay (two nights) and would certainly stay there again (although would probably opt for one of the larger rooms next time).

I could have written in the dust on the nightstands and chairs. Paint is peeling in the bathroom and tub.

I had a terrific stay at Lockview Motel. The rooms are updated and extremely clean. Every staff member that I interacted with were all very friendly and accommodating. I'm a Housekeeper in a motel myself so I'm critical and I know what to look for. Everything about Lockview was above my expectations! If I ever get back to the Soo I will definitely stay there again! Thank you all!!

Dirty, unvacuumed carpet, black mold on bathroom walls, ice cold shower water, knob needs replacement, room smells like stale cigarette smoke.

Very clean room and comfortable bed. Could watch the ships and people watch from the Lockview. Loved strolling through town.

Our room looked nothing like the pics on their website. The room appeared clean but the carpet was filthy, turning our socks and my granddaughter’s feet black walking on it. The walls had been recently painted but you could see multiple spots that should have been repaired (mudded and sanded). There were dead bugs in the ceiling light fixture, and the house keeper left dirty washcloths hanging on the shower Rod.

The room was clean, but is in need of a serious remodel. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet the night we stayed, even though there were several people staying there. There are very few outlets to plug things in, especially near the bed we didn’t have one we could access. The bathroom needs an overhaul. There is no exhaust fan which has led to quite the mold issue and because of the shower head and shower curtain that’s being used, there is water all over floor with each shower resulting in the tiles no longer being attached to the floor. The location is good as it’s right across from the locks.

I don’t know how this place has such good reviews because it wasn’t that good. My room was dirty and poorly maintained.

The location is stellar. They have improved the rooms since our last stay in 2020. The fluorescent lighting is not optimal. There was black mold growing on the shower tiles in our room 238 which I reported as we checked out. Would stay here again.

The room was very neat and clean. Very good quality for the price, and conveniently located near all the tourist spots and shops!

Pretty quirky little place. Impossibly convenient for watching stuff at the locks, and easily walkable to options for breakfast dinner. Tight parking lot. Extremely awful room lighting, including a 4’ LED strip that seemed to be taped to the wall/ceiling corner. Unplugged it because it was so obnoxious, but then the only light was from the 2 dim and weird bedside lights. Room’s back wall was against the alley, so heard trucks early in the morning. Went to check out, and nobody was there. Gave up and just left keys. Tiny breakfast offering; better than nothing. Mostly fairly clean; bathroom super small.

Very small room but adequate for a short stay. Good location with free parking. Would stay here again.

Staff was very friendly. But very dated rooms. Ice machine, one & only, was out of order. No counter space anywhere. Window air unit.

Very clean but room is small with one nightstand and one very small lamp total. Has a coffee table, which is useless. Has one wooden chair. Very small bathroom with no counter. TV was good.

It was okay. Nicely redone however the people occupying the room above me were extremely active all evening. It sounded like construction/reorganizing the room. It was hard to sleep comfortably.

Overall great, check-in was allowed a bit early which was great. The locks are just across the street so it was easily to just head over and watch the boats. When I read balcony I'd expected a private balcony...it is just an old motel with exterior doors on the 2nd floor. The walkway is your balcony. Bed was comfy, air was cold, and the shower pressure was amazing!

Overall it was a good place to stay. Room was clean and had some updates. Right across from the Soo Locks which was great! Some recommendations for property owners, at least for room 103. Replace the few broken floor tiles in bathroom. Install a bath fan. Raise the height of the showerhead or install a handheld model. I had to get on my knees to shower. The showerhead was the lowest I’ve ever encountered. Was at about 4 ft in height.

The property was nice and the staff was great. I enjoyed my stay here. I needed something printed and they helped me out with it. They also allowed me to have a late check out. I will definitely recommend them and stay here again! ❤️

Rooms were not ready at check in time. The guy at the desk was obviously bored and offered no explanation. the only thing going for this place is the location. Rooms not in the best of shape.

Left a message for the manager to help with TV. The manager never called us back.

I'm a regular customer here. I come to Sault Ste. Marie every month and stay for several days, so hotel costs matter. This place has become my absolute go-to. The owners do a great job taking care of any problems that come up right away, the housekeeping staff keep the rooms very clean, they are accommodating when I've needed late checkouts, etc, and are just all-around great hosts. The building is a bit dated, but they have done a fantastic job updating what they have to make it feel more modern and it definitely feels clean. (Yes, I can say I feel comfortable walking around without socks and shoes, so I'd say that's a good standard.) The location is right across from the Sault Locks too, so with the security patroling over there the motel definitely feels safe & is well lit. (Plus the bonus of all the access to the downtown shops & restaurants!) I highly recommend this place & the price can't be beat!

Our stay was wonderful. Check-in was a breeze, our room was clean and comfortable, the parking included was extremely convenient, and the location in town is perfectly central. Last but not least, the included complimentary breakfast prepared and set out by Luci and the other staff blew us away. We would stay again, and we will tell our friends and family in St. Louis, Missouri.

The front desk guy was extremely helpful when asked about restaurants. He also came to room to help show us how to get TV to work. Great location across from the locks.

The view , location, staff, cleanliness

On the website, front desk open 7am-10pm, but was closed at 3:30pm the day I checked in. As a result, front desk staff called me to check me in, which doesn't feel good. When I arrived, I found out that my room doesn't have information pamphlet (eg. WiFi password) and towels. Shower hot water faucet did not work well, but office was closed. The next day, office was open at 9am and closed at 5pm, but I left at 8am and back after 5pm so I couldn't talk to the staff. I finally was able to talk to the staff the third night because I finished my work earlier that day. Staff was friendly and moved me to a different room. Breakfast buffet was not open during the stay.

Fantastic place for the money. Perfect location to watch the Soo Locks, across the street. Great shopping and dining options.

Great location to see the Soo Locks!

I was pleasantly surprised to discover how quiet the room was. We had families on each side of us and didn't hear anything. The large mini-fridge was a wonderful addition too. Ir kept everything ice cold. My foodie teenagers were very impressed with the breakfast. Usually they have to mentally prepare themselves for powder eggs and watered down gravy, but they were very excited to return to tell me how everything was "homemade." As for the location it couldn't have been more perfect. The motel is right accross from the Soo Locks. You could easily spend the better part of a day just watching, right close up the huge frieghters come and go through the lock. The park is also very well maintained. Surrounding the motel its self are a variety of touristy shops and delicous restaurants to satisfy.

We were surprised to find the breakfast was so nice. They didn’t have everything, but they had plenty of things to choose from. We would totally stay here again.

We stop overnight annually to watch the ships, get dinner and enjoy ice cream! Everyone is friendly and helpful! Breakfast gets better every year--so many choices--all delicious! Thank you!

The Lockview Motel is a charming retro property. It is an old motel but has been updated. The room was extremely clean. Its so convenient to the park, restaurants, and shopping. Little bistro table and chairs outside of room as well as a table and chairs in room. Continental breakfast with some hot options each morning.
