We had a nice, quick stay at Umami. It's a fresh, modern little place with a nice staff. Not far from downtown/beach. The pool is smaller than it looks in the photos and the sun beds are reserved for the rooms they are in front of, so there are really only four lounge chairs. Overall it was a nice stay.

We absolutely loved staying at the Umami Hotel! It was extremely clean. Everything smelled fresh from the linens to the towels. We had an amazing breakfast every morning with fresh fruit and local cuisine. The service was spectacular! The front desk was very helpful for all our needs even ordering dinner from local restaurants to be delivered to the hotel. We had massages during our stay also and they were heavenly. Our time at Umami was quiet and relaxing but a close enough walk to everything we wanted to do. We enjoyed every minute of it!!

Das Hotel hält was es verspricht. Die Zimmer sind top. Der Pool sieht sehr schön aus, ist aber eher zum abkühlen und es gibt nur 4 frei verfügbare Liegen. Ansonsten ist alles top. Besonders das Frühstück war hervorragend. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt

We’ve stayed here twice and it’s a beautiful hotel. They go out of the way to accommodate your checkins and travel. The staff is always very sweet and helpful. The hotel is super clean and that’s important to me because I am not fond of critters. The front desk people have helped us find activities, transportation, and late night food:) the hotel has a nice, full bar which is prefect for pool time. We love the breakfast, always awesome! If you want a quiet, romantic place where you can easily walk to restaurants, grocery, bars and the beach then make your reservation soon!

The hotel was nice but much smaller than the pictures show. The premier garden suite was nice but the shower is too small and gets water all over the floor, the tub sits right in front of the balcony door so it was hard to get around it. Breakfast was good, drinks by the pool was nice and not over priced. The pool is very small. The staff was friendly. Location is a bit sketchy.

Lovely hotel, rooms really nice and well appointed. Not much storage space. Staff pretty average, not particularly interested. Pool is basically a plunge pool and nothing more. It was too full so skimmers weren't working properly and the sump cover wasn't even attached which is poor Health & Safety. We loved Puerto Viejo most out of our entire stay in Costa Rica. Honestly, if we went again not sure we would go for somewhere with a pool as the beach is so close and so nice. Costa Rica for us was not a chill by the pool kind of holiday but rather a go explore!!

Umami resort was beautiful and relaxing. The staff there was super responsive and attentive to all needs. I would say it is perfect for solo travelers or couples. The only suggestion I have is more pool lounger chairs for the guest.

This property was pretty good. The drinks were affordable and breakfast was decent. On my first day of getting breakfast though, it was unfortunate that there was a dead roach on my fruit plate, kind of killing my appetite. The rooms are clean and the maids are nice. Didn’t use the pool, but a lot of people seemed to enjoy it. It is in a neighborhood and not as convenient to a lot of things in puerto viejo, despite it seeming close to everything on the map. Tuktuks were extremely cheap and efficient and it was easy to get around.

El lugar en si es bonito, y tranquilo, camas cómodas y buen desayuno, pero, tienen un problema importante con el olor de las habitaciones, esto porque el olor de los drenajes se devuelve, y no es nada agradable, pese a que tienen ambientadores con aroma para disimularlo.

Staff was very nice. The place is nice and quiet. However, not worth paying premium for two bedroom apartment as the living room is NOT air conditioned. Given the oppressive heat it renders this extra space useless. TV is only in living room not the bedrooms so that pretty much means no TV. To make matters worse the bedroom AC units are small and can barely cool the rooms enough to barely sleep comfortably.

Schöne Unterkunft aber auf den 2. Blick sieht man die ganzen Mängel und den Zimmer und in der gesamten Unterkunft. Die Klimaanlage ist genau auf das Bett gerichtet weshalb wir das Bett umstellen mussten. Frühstück war leider nicht wie in den anderen positiven Bewertungen beschrieben. Deshalb waren wir sonst immer auswärts frühstücken

Wir hatten tolle 3 Nächte im Umami-Hotel. Die Anlage und das Hotel sind sehr sauber und fußläufig sind Geschäfte, Restaurants und Lebensmittelläden zu erreichen. Das Frühstück war sehr gut und ausreichend, es gab eine Auswahl zwischen 3 Speisen. Was ein wenig gestört hat war die Hellhörigkeit im Hotel. Wir hatten leider das Zimmer direkt an der Treppe, sodass wir alle Schritte hörten. Genauso dünn waren die Wände zu den anderen Zimmern (wir hörten jedes Wort).

Beautiful property that’s walking distance to the beach and main strip. No lunch or dinner on site. Get daily housekeeping to get rid of the huge flies that enter the room. Low water pressure. Not much of a noise buffer between rooms.

The hotel grounds ,the staff, the location and the breakfast was all great. We had a premium room. The shower is the problem. There is no glass around it, so by the time you finish there is a flood on the bathroom floor, Now you get to stand in water and brush your teeth ,shave ext. then you track water around the rest of the room. I wish the owners would try taking a shower in this room and see how they like it.

Staff was so helpful, especially for booking transportation and excursions. Felt safe the entire stay, pool and breakfast were a great plus!

We stayed for a week at the Umami Hotel and it was wonderful. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and offered helpful suggestions. We loved our time in Puerto Viejo and at this hotel. We ate breakfast at Umami everyday and they served good-size portions of high quality food. There are many great staff members at the hotel, but I’d like to specifically recognize Ramundo, Tony, and Rodney for making our stay extra special. Zunächst fiel negativ auf,dass das Hotel schon eine Woche vor Ankunft die Kreditkarte belastet hatte,obwohl Bezahlung bei Anreise gebucht war. Bei Anreise wurde unsere Kreditkarte vollständig kopiert, wir haben dies bemängelt und die Kaution bar hinterlegt. Leider war auch die Quittung keine Selbstverständlichkeit... Das Frühstück war ok aber im Vergleich zu anderen Hotels in Costa Rica gab es eher wenig Auswahl. Leider wurde der Pool und seine Umgebung so hingebungsvoll mit Chlor gereinigt, dass wir uns Kleidung verdorben haben, weil diese im Rahmen eines Poolaufenthaltes teilweise entfärbt wurde. I would give 3 extra stars for Tony! He went the extra mile to make sure my stay was perfect. In fact all of the staff was friendly. But Tony was amazing. The room, the facilities, breakfast..all top nitch.

I truly enjoyed my stay at Umami Hotel! From the property itself to the wonderful staff that work there. Rodney at the front desk in particular always made any question/request I made a breeze to accomplish. The two ladies that served breakfast were always kind and attentive and the housekeeping ladies were also always sweet and helpful! When I return, I will definitely be staying here again.

We’ve stayed here twice and it’s a beautiful hotel. They go out of the way to accommodate your checkins and travel. The staff is always very sweet and helpful. The hotel is super clean and that’s important to me because I am not fond of critters. The front desk people have helped us find activities, transportation, and late night food:) the hotel has a nice, full bar which is prefect for pool time. We love the breakfast, always awesome! If you want a quiet, romantic place where you can easily walk to restaurants, grocery, bars and the beach then make your reservation soon!

Umami was such a wonderful boutique hotel. The staff was so awesome and giving. The hotel itself was perfect for my solo trip. The middle of town and a short walk to the beach or several restaurants and markets. I especially liked the fact that you could interact with locals and not only tourists and it was only a tuk tuk ride away to really nice beaches further down the coast. So looking ready for my return to CR and will def be staying here!

This property was pretty good. The drinks were affordable and breakfast was decent. On my first day of getting breakfast though, it was unfortunate that there was a dead roach on my fruit plate, kind of killing my appetite. The rooms are clean and the maids are nice. Didn’t use the pool, but a lot of people seemed to enjoy it. It is in a neighborhood and not as convenient to a lot of things in puerto viejo, despite it seeming close to everything on the map. Tuktuks were extremely cheap and efficient and it was easy to get around.

The premier garden suite was nice but the shower is too small and gets water all over the floor, the tub sits right in front of the balcony door so it was hard to get around it. Breakfast was good, drinks by the pool was nice and not over priced. The pool is very small. The staff was friendly. Location is a bit sketchy.

We stayed 3 nights at Umami in Puerto Viejo. The hotel is lovely, quiet and set back from the main road through the town but still only a 5min stroll to the seafront. Room itself was clean and modern with AC. Breakfast was typical Costa Rican and served by the pool each morning which was great. Free parking right outside. I’d certainly return to the hotel and only have good things to say about our time there. One advice I’d give is to avoid the sister hotel’s restaurant (Num at Namu) - it’s overpriced, quite basic and has no atmosphere and eat in the town itself.

O hotel é bem bonito, como nas fotos. Está bem perto da rua principal, mas longe o sufienciente para nao ser afetado pela bagunça. É bem reservado e a equipe ésimpática. The gore is a beautiful oasis on an unsuspecting street. Our room was beautiful, clean and cozy (but not too small)! The staff make you feel welcome and the breakfast was delicious. The location is perfect, a short walk to the main shops and restaurants. There’s nothing more I could have asked for!

Couldn't have asked for a better stay! From start to finish they made this birthday trip amazing for my first time in CR. Communication was prompt and clear, they coordinated my airport transfers and I had no issue getting to or from the hotel. They even allowed me to check in a bit earlier knowing how long the ride from San Jose to Puerto Viejo was. Raymundo, Oscar, Janny(sp) and the whole team were wonderful. From the birthday drink, recommendations, and excursions. I felt safe at all times, everyone was friendly and the room was very comfortable. Location is very walkable with no safety issues.
