The Stricklin Hotel- Florence

We loved the hotel. Our room was smaller but very cozy and the temperature was very easy to adjust. The bathroom was nice and the shower was large and clean although slightly difficult to figure out. The bed was one of the most comfortable that I have slept in. Our only complaint was the noise from the bowling alley in the basement. The sound of the ball hitting the lane was just loud enough to aggravate us as we fell asleep.

The hotel is a converted old building with hardwood floors. The floors creaked whenever any one was moving around. They have made it pretty nice and the lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. Parking is on the street with a meter that only takes quarters. Later did I find a sign where you could pay through your phone. There is also a parking garage that is about a block from the hotel. There is no food service. There is a Big Bad breakfast restaurant in the building for a paid breakfast. It was good. I was blown away by downtown Florence. I have been to Florence many times but never downtown. I will go back.

The room itself was very stylish and the bed quite comfortable. Having Big Bad Breakfast Restaurant downstairs was very convenient. Dislikes - There is a bar/club next door that had loud music until 2AM. There is no dedicated parking, so you have to find a metered spot on the street. The hotel will take care of any tickets you may receive although we were there on a weekend and they do not monitor the parking then so no issues.

Great little place to stay that is close to UNA. Parking is the biggest challenge, but the parking garage is very close to the hotel.

Great hotel, sad that the basement/bowling alley was closed due to construction. It was a big reason why we booked with them. Overall, very charming stay.

The place was way cool in terms of being a nicely refinished, repurposed building. There's street parking only (which they can't do anything about because of the location) and it's a bit of a slog to drag bags from around the corner, but at least the parking is free overnight. The attached restaurant has amazing breakfasts, but it would be great if the room price included a breakfast voucher. Overall, we enjoyed the place quite a lot and would recommend it for a bit of a change from the usual big-chain hotels.

There were plenty of activities to do at the hotel, food, bowling, pool tables, and a bar.

Perfect location to enjoy all that downtown Florence has to offer. Very walkable area. Loved that they offer room service now! Getting breakfast delivered right to the room was my favorite thing.

Parking was our biggest concern. The hotel gas no dedicated parking and you were left to fend for yourself. Otherwise very convenient to restaurants and other areas of interest. We were lucky and found parking on the street close to the hotel but before we stay here again we will really have to weigh the parking vs the area. Otherwise quaint, clean, and a great stay.

Parking is limited on the street near the front of the hotel. The parking deck is too far. My sheets had spots and the toilet was not clean. I loved the breakfast spot in the ground floor and the front desk folks were very nice. The hotel is cute and has a lot of potential. Do i think my rating reflects that. Cleanliness is key in my opinion. All it takes is a little uncleanliness to freak me out and I can't return.

Great location and staff; my room was pretty dirty (flecks of black coming from the a/c, dirty floors, dirty baseboards and window sills, dirty mirrors, banged up paint — and I had to call in for a clean comforter.

Remote was really dirty. Room really needed to be dusted.

Second time staying there. The shower had a massive leak above it which did not deter me. I did bring it to the staffs attention and did not request compensation. However, I was surprised at their lack of concern. It was currently showing black mold growth, not mildew. It did not necessarily affect my stay because it was only one night but had it been multiple I would have been worried with the lack of concern shown

The stay was overall good. However, even though I stayed for 5 nights, my room was never cleaned. I don't think there would be a need for it to be cleaned every day, but at least once every two days, so that the towels could be replaced and the soap/toilet paper/shamppoo could be refiled.

We stayed here for 6 nights and overall had a decent experience. The hotel is in a great location—within walking distance to downtown parks and restaurants—and we felt very safe the entire time. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, especially when it came to navigating parking. While there’s no dedicated lot, there’s affordable street parking and a convenient parking garage just a block away ($4 a day at most). Our room was clean when we arrived and included a small fridge tucked in the closet, one chair, and a small table. There’s a microwave and ice machine available in the hallway. We’d read reviews about noise issues, but it was surprisingly quiet during our stay—no loud music, which was a pleasant surprise. That said, the hotel is in an older building, and it shows. The floors are uneven, and you can clearly hear people talking or walking in adjacent rooms and above you. The hot water in the shower didn’t last more than five minutes, which was frustrating. And while we were there for six nights, housekeeping never came by—not even to take out the trash or refresh towels. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly spot in a central location and don’t mind a few quirks, this place can work well for a night or two. For longer stays, the lack of housekeeping and hot water might be a dealbreaker. I’d consider staying again, but only for a shorter visit.

The lighting above the sink was dim. There was some mold in the shower. Just not kept as well as it was in the past.

The room was spotless. The location was perfect. A very neat place to stay.

Excellent customer service. Crista was very helpful and attentive at check in. Hotel was clean and in a great location. All the staff that I encountered during my stay were awesome! Would stay here again.

The room was nicely decorated but lacked a phone or hairdryer. The tiny sliver of soap provided made my skin very dry. I purchased a good bar of soap from drugstore, but didn’t want the expense of buying a hair dryer. The only way to contact desk is to call the number on a sign at the desk so be sure to note it. The restaurant next door, BBB is excellent

We were disappointed with several things about our room. A/C was not cooling well, dim lighting above bathroom sinks, no Smart TV (cable channels only), our window view of dumpsters and utility lines was a disappointment, too. We were able to park on the street just outside the entrance, however we were approached by a homeless beggar on two occasions. Positive feedback would be the comfortable bed, convenient to walk to restaurants, and friendly staff. We wouldn’t stay again.

There is a lot to like about the Stricklin: clean, nice rooms, comfortable bed, easy to walk to restaurants/shops. The big negative for us was the noise. We had a room with a window, and the street noise was a lot (engines revving, loud bass music even overnight). Also, be aware the hotel shares a wall with a restaurant/bar/live music venue, so our final night we heard a show from our hotel room...when we preferred to be asleep. Maybe staying in one of the windowless rooms would be a different, less noisy experience.

Room was very hot and the air conditioning unit was not working properly. No air in the bathrooms as there is just a small unit on the wall in the bedroom.

Room without windows. The bed was terribly uncomfortable, as were the pillows. Without a fan or ambient light, it was nearly impossible to sleep. My partner and I only got about 2.5 hours of sleep. Room should be laid out better with lights that can be reached from the bed (not the hallway)

I have stayed here in the past and loved it. This trip was disappointing. The hotel itself is very nice and the staff are nice. But this room was very small and claustrophobic with no windows. On arrival the TV did not work. Staff came to look at it and could not fix it and promised to compensate me for the inconvenience.(They never did). The in room coffee maker did not work. I was told that there were new owners and they were having problems.

Loved the small feel town and cute hotel. The bed and pillows were the most comfortable that we have ever slept on. However, the windows, curtains and blinds need severe updating. The curtains were falling off the rod and the blinds didn’t work. Lots of bright light at night in the room. Very noisy on the weekend.

Rooms small but comfortable. No place to work if you need a desk in the room. Also, A/C blew straight onto the bed into my face which disturbed sleep during the night.

I thought the Deluxe room was excellent. Great bed and decor. The Keurig and mini fridge was nice - bathroom was good. The only drawbacks I noticed were that sometimes you would have to track down and wait for a front desk person. Also, had trouble getting bars of soap for our bathroom.

Great staff and location

We checked in late, so the front desk was closed. However the communication was great, had no problem getting the key and getting into our room.

Lovely staff, really helpful. We stayed on a below freezing night, and the heater warmed up the room really well. Plus great location

On arrival the TV did not work. Staff came to look at it and could not fix it and promised to compensate me for the inconvenience.(They never did). The in room coffee maker did not work. I was told that there were new owners and they were having problems.

We stayed on the 3rd floor facing Court street. At 1:30am there were guys blowing the streets and I was up all night. The next night it was drunks fighting and yelling. I won’t stay in that room again! Also no phone to call the front desk for help! It was not good and no one at the desk until 7-7:30am. Bad experience!

This review is a decidedly average in the context of how the property views itself and the cost. Room was clean (no window but that wasn;t a big deal). Staff was essentially unattentive and couldn;t care less that you were staying there. Not in a bad way but completely ambivalent and unapologetic for the minor inconvenicences that arose (room key did not work so had to go back downstairs...one person didn't even apologize just recoded it and handed it back. The other one who was there for at leat 8 hours didn;t say a word, look at you and spent her time taking selfies and watching movies on her phone). Also slight dings for not having parking lot..had to park on street. Street parking was free but had to walk a half a block between car and hotel with bags. For $200 a night, just feel it should be better. Will not go back.

My husband and I stayed for an overnight trip to Florence, AL. The staff was super sweet and the place was neat and clean. We loved the bar and bowling in the basement and the BBB breakfast place below the hotel was the best in town.

beautiful old building and European style. For the price, it is a good option. BBB restaurant connected to lobby is great food, but noisy.

Confortable modern room with great local access to Court Street dining and entertainment options, including the Boiler Room basement bar that has four lanes of bowling and other games.

Great feel and location! Boiler room was an added bonus!

If you want a great weekend getaway visit the Stricklin and Florence. The hotel is very conveniently located downtown with plenty of dining and entertainment options. Don't skip on the BBB!

We had a great stay at The Stricklin Hotel. The property has a lot of character. We enjoyed breakfast downstairs at Big Bad Breakfast.
