The hotel condition is new and the facilities are clean. HOWEVER, the location is VERY sketchy, AND the hotel does not have its own parking. You will need to shell out additional $50 for overnight valet parking that is operated by a different company. Otherwise, street parking is the only other option. From what I was told, there are plenty of break-in's. The hotel front door is locked 24/7 should be a very good warning sign. This hotel must be a slightly higher end drug addicts' favorite. Although the facility is super clean, there were plenty of very sketchy characters checking in the evening. The lobby and elevators all smell like marijuana. I would not recommend this for family stay at all. Business? - where are you going to park?! The valet parking also have low height limits.

I enjoyed my stay at the Hampton Inn in downtown Oakland, California! It was convenient place for my visiting with my son who lived a few miles away in Oakland. I enjoyed the awesome breakfast buffet each morning. I also enjoyed the gym that had all the gym equipment to choose from that I wanted! I also liked having laundry facilities right down the hall from my room as well as an ice machine and water bottle machine to easily fill up each morning. The car valet was great and quickly brought my car to me each morning! I have stayed at this Hampton Inn many times in the last few years and I have been happy and pleased with the rooms and service each time!

Brand new remodel with update and clean rooms, good size, and nice lobby. Good breakfast set up. Location is convenient to several large office buildings, Chinatown, and public transportation. Neighborhood is rough, especially at night. Parking is limited and very expensive

Booked here last minute, after a nearby hotel cancelled on me. Hotel was very clean and comfortable. Valet parking available for $30. Front desk welcoming and friendly. Great location, about a block away from the Bart station. Great experience overall!

Good value. Central location, close to BART for SF commute and various fun Oakland neighborhoods. Breakfast included. The gym has nice equipment. The valet parking is expensive but it's nice to have the car secure. This is our second time staying at this hotel, and we will continue to book here when in the area.

We had an issue with our room and some insensitive interactions with hotel staff. Irritating odors and fumes came out of the heating vents. The hotel had to move our room and we did end up having a conversation with a "manager" on the phone. Further, on initial check-in the desk person gave us a room that had not been cleaned or turned. Big hassle to request a refund/credit of some sort and we DEFINITELY deserve one. For your follow-up (if y'all even care): 2rooms, Jun6-10, GC Jeter). I paid with my AmericanExpress card I may go to them and holla about what happened to us. I had my four nieces visiting from out of town. Hampton Inn had several "red zone turnovers" on this one. If you need further corroboration of what I say I can provide it. Expedia, don't let them drag y'all down!

found stains in the sheets and the soaps were empty. there was 3 big trash cans in the parking area taking up a spot. was a hassle to check in and charged way to much for a deposit

The carpet was dirty and service was horrible. I requested towels on the day of my daughter’s service and I was told maid did not arrive until 9am and I needed to come get whatever they had available. The request was for 3 sets of towels but we needed extra face clothes as well. No extra rolls of toilet paper and again when asked front over they us to come get it ourselves

Clean and comfortable hotel with courteous staff and convenient location in downtown Oakland, close to BART, Chinatown and more. Valet parking was easy and worth the cost to ensure security and easy access to our vehicle. Decent breakfast. Only complaints were some issues with the room, blinds didn't open and TV stopped working, that were not fixed during our stay. And a bit noisy at night. Overall, recommended for a nice room in Oakland at a good price and would stay again.

Arrived in the middle of the day to find the front doors locked. After several attempts at hitting the buzzer, I was finally let in. It was ten minutes until 3 PM, and I was told since I wasn't a silver or gold member I would not be able to check in, even though my room was ready. At exactly 3 PM all of the people waiting in the lobby lined up to check-in with the one clerk on duty. When I got to my room, half of the lights and outlets, including everything in the bathroom did not work. When I was leaving to get dinner I told the clerk, who told me (for the first time) that you have to hold your key card up to a square in the room to get the lights to work. News to me. He told me if that didn't work, I would have to switch rooms since there was no maintenance person on duty until Wednesday. Got dinner, came back and tried the square. No change. I was so exhausted I decided to just stay in the room and deal with it. Then I took a shower and there was no conditioner in the bottle. Woke up before dawn and got ready in a half-dark room where half the plugs didn't work. Not a great stay.

I had a great time staying at the Inn. The staff was nice, the rooms are clean. I found plenty of food options within walking distance. My only, ONLY complaint is that the "city view" room I booked is just a room. Not a problem but if I had been salivating over a potential skyline I would've been hella disappointed. There is a window but there's no "city view". Besides that everything was absolutely lovely.

One of the best Hampton Inns I’ve ever stayed in. Room and lounge was so clean and I enjoyed their complimentary hotel shampoo, bodywash, and lotion. Front desk staff and breakfast staff were attentive and friendly. I felt very taken care of. I wish there was a pool but this is probably a hotel more for business and not families so not their fault. Stay if you’re in town!

Where do I start. I booked this hotel months ago for July 3-7th and prepared for my stay..today is the 5th and I’m ready to go home! The experience of my stay here has been chaotic and inconvenient. Although the staff is friendly and that is the ONLY good thing I can say. On Thursday when I checked in, I was surprised when the clerk told me my deposit for my stay would be $300 and NOT $150 which I had confirmed TWICE before coming… problem number 1. On Friday, my key began not working due to their system being down or having maintenance issues which caused them to assign my room to another guest. I just woke up from a nap around 6ish and luckily I had the security latch open or the guest would have walked in on me half naked. I went downstairs to ask what was going on about that..(no clear answers, only apologies) they proceeded to tell me that the information was somehow erased so I had to be let into my room until that got fixed… problem number 2. Today, I walked into the lobby and was greeted and informed that I needed to do the check in process again 😒… which consist of charging me again for the room that is already currently pending on my account. THAT took the cake for me, my key card started to not work again. I will NEVER EVER stay at any Hilton owned hotels in my life again. This is absolutely ridiculous!

The entire Staff alone should ALL be Congratulated to the highest extent. The entire Front desk Staff, especially Tania and Jose and Ryan, and all whom I had met, including the Maintenance, who was always Courteous, Kind and above all Professional, TOP-NOTCH! \m/ The Rooms are very spacious and quiet, due to good construction between Rooms. The included Breakfast Buffet is definitely something to look forward to the night before, wonderful and wide array of Breakfast delights. The Valet Parking Staff were helpful and courteous and quick to get your vehicle or drop-off, pick-up location. I would highly recommend The Hampton Inn Oakland Downntown-City Center...5 STARS!*****

Great hotel. Very Comfortable, clean room. Big screen TV. Great for a business trip. I felt safe. The breakfast is great, coffee hot but you know just hotel coffee. Hotel is basically in Chinatown so lots of Chinese, ramen choices. Not many stores. Super cool little shop right next door with artisan cheeses and 1 sandwich option + gourmet gifts. Bicycle cafe is one block north for coffee, etc. Marriott Center one block West for full bar and burger bar food options late PM. I’d stay here over the Marriott any time! My only complaint would be they don’t have the ability to provide change for a $20 for tips, etc and they couldn’t make recommendations for where to go for coffee or a late night dinner/drink. Luckily I remembered the Marriott which is a short walk. At 9pm I was ok as a single person walking by myself to get a salad and glass of wine. Even a Redwine Togo cup to enjoy back in my room with some chocolate chip cookies purchased at the Hampton Snack bar. All of my business travel convenience and comforts were met. My room wasn’t ready at 11am but I was able to complete an over hour virtual meeting in their upstairs business center with perfect wifi connection. That’s a huge plus. When I got to my room I was able to connect to perfect wifi for more virtual meetings.

Very nice hotel that was very close to BART and Chinatown. Beautiful Lake Merritt was also nearby. The hubby and I were here during the weekdays, so we didn’t experience the club noise that other reviewers have commented on. Secured building. BART ride was quick into San Francisco. Also, heard that parking was really expensive. Breakfast was pretty decent. Room was lovely with comfortable king-sized bed, relaxing shower, fridge and microwave. Front desk staff was pleasant. Did not use gym, but heard it was good. Some may find surrounding area to be a little dicey, though.

The hotel itself was great - clean, wonderful staff, solid breakfast. Parking was $50 a night which was more than I would have expected. Unfortunately, I would not stay there again because of the location. On Friday night at 1:45 we awoke to the sound of about 20 gunshots at the club on the corner of the same block. On Saturday night when that club closed at 2am there was a lot of noise. I would not have felt safe walking around at night, and even during the day it wasn't great.

The location is very walkable in downtown Oakland. There is a Bart station 2 blocks away so I did not need a rental car. Merritt Lake and the Oakland waterfront are both a quick walk as well. Rooms are modern and comfortable with plenty of USB outlets. It was very quiet for my two nights (Saturday/Sunday). Breakfast includes the standard Hampton/Hilton options. Staff is very friendly.

I was pleasantly surprised with the Hampton Inn Downtown Oakland. It is around the corner from Chinatown with plenty of places to get food. It is also near public transportation. Convenient location.
