The modern space was lovely but the empty white lobby walls feel sterile and in need of more art. Our room was very nice and comfy but the open shower concept left the floor soaked and reminded us of a ymca or a nursing home. Super friendly staff and excellent food and cocktails at the bar. Unfortunately we picked it because of the rooftop bar with views of the city and were disappointed to find it closed.

We picked the Doyle for its location; this was a one night stop on a longer vaca, and it was perfect. Toured Monticello then checked in here and walked to Belmont and the downtown mall for dinner and ice cream. Another short walk in the AM for brunch and a stroll thru UVa campus before we left. Standard room was fine - minimalist, but clean and everything you need. Lobby, bar and rooftop restaurant are all beautiful!

Please note that the 4th floor is very loud when they have rooftop events. Other than that, this hotel is PERFECT and we loved our stay! Thank you.

It’s starting to show its age with some stains, scuffs, etc. wouldn’t have been a big issue if the room appeared clean. However, many signs it had not been vacuumed. Deck area probably had 30 cigarettes laying around. We let staff know. Room got cleaned second day but cigarettes were still there when we checked out days later. Visit for the rooftop bar but I’d skip staying here in the future.

The Doyle was previously the Quirk Hotel, you'll know this quickly b/c the artwork throughout the property notes it as such. Also, Google's street view shows it as the Quirk. We stayed on the 3rd floor over the 4th of July weekend. The property has so much potential. The rooms are minimalist, efficient. Without a full time staff working on cleaning the property; the musty smells on each floor and cleanliness of the downstairs bathrooms is lacking. The tall ceilings and flow of the lobby is welcoming; granted the inexpensive furniture is showing signs of age. A lobby host vs a front desk was especially helpful when there was a neighborhood wide power outage for an hour+. Great text communication John Michael :) The star feature of this property is rooftop- massive. Excellent venue to watch fireworks or the sunset. The area is walkable to the outdoor "mall" featuring restaurants, music venues, etc. Do not recommend this property if you are in town to attend a UVA game; the facilities are a 10+ minute drive. Plan to Valet, nearby parking did not allow for overnight options. Disappointed to see a college town with the infrastructure for cycling and almost no access to hourly rentals? The Doyle does not have property bikes available to check out. The Doyle lacks frills and needs a soft goods/deep clean renovation. The property is much larger than it appears at first glance; potential to be great...The Doyle is average.

Two out of our three bedroom lights were out. Common area in annex was messy, almost like a storage area. Ran out of body wash after 2 nights so clearly not refilled. I'm not sure if everyone gets the same treatment in the main building but I'd consider not staying in the annex

We have stayed here before, and even recommended to friends who also ended up staying there. I was surprised to see how dirty the shower was - like when was the last time it was cleaned? There was the pink mold growing on the floor and black mold on the bottom of the glass. It just needs some bleach. I then wondered was the rest of the room event cleaned? One of the towels also had large brown marks/stains on it. Very disappointing, especially when spending over $600 per night!

Rooms are not the best.Didnt clean our room one day. Very musty smelling. On days they did we were always missing towels and coffee. Tables in cafe were dirty. So many homeless in cafe. Its not awful but at its price point I would have expected better service on the housekeeping end. The coffee at the cafe is delicious and the staff is friendly. Cool main lobby area and bars

The Doyle hotel’s downstairs is very beautiful and modern. Our room was very spacious although if we wanted our room cleaned, we had to pay for it!! also many parts of the day there was downstairs at all to help us. No one working to be found. There was one guy and he would just walk out the front door and be gone and then reappear hours later. No wonder they are selling the hotel again. Our bathroom floor was not clean and the wall behind the toilet had to be cleaned. It was dirty.

It's not that I need an actual person to check me in, but the lobby is just empty and coming back there at the end of the night is creepy (I came back at 8pm). No one at the bar, no one in the lobby, no one at the front desk. My room was comfortable, but there was no body wash in the shower-not a drop, and I was just showering and leaving for dinner. Once you're in the shower, you're not going to get out and call housekeeping. I'm not sure if you even can call housekeeping directly or if you call someone overseas who then calls into the hotel?

Check-in was all virtual and super easy. Lobby was clean. Room was modern, beautiful, clean and very spacious. We will definitely stay here the next time we are in Charlottesville.

This is a difficult review to write. Seldom have I stayed in a nicer hotel, and I travel for business on other people’s dime all the time. Gorgeous room - very large, high ceiling, gorgeous Scandinavian design, cool art on the walls, incredibly clean, no smoke residue, great bathroom, plush towels, nice restaurant, VERY cool bar with and AMAZING view on the roof, a really sweet and helpful Door Guy/Valet, I could rave on and on. So why not 5 star all the way? Okay - so I admit it - I AM a Boomer - but I do have a Master’s in Telecom Engineering and was CTO of a multi-billion dollar Cellular company, so I think I am at least basically technically savvy. When I showed up at 3 PM in the afternoon there was literally no one at what could be considered a desk - so-called virtually staffing - and lo and behold, despite “checking in” on my computer (m4 Ipad Pro), my Room code would not open the door. After almost an hour we finally tracked down a young lady who I believe was a cleaner, and she was also unable to access the room from my door code, but she was able to use her code to get us in. She promised to find somebody to fix the situation, but in the meantime we were stuck - one of us had to be in the room at all times or we would be locked out - my wife had a drink by herself on the roof - I got some food at the restaurant by myself, etc., etc. No one ever came to fix our issue, so we were semi-trapped in the room all night. Otherwise it was Fabulous!

Everything here is done electronic. There’s no front desk, so you check in online. The hotel is downtown Charlottesville so there is no parking at the hotel. There’s valet parking and self service parking lots. The hotel is very modern and pretty inside. I had a room with two queen beds and a balcony. For the price, it’s great. Hotel is very clean and comfortable. While it could be noisy downstairs, the rooms are very quiet. Would definitely recommend! Only one con: checkin is not until 4 pm. Since it’s ysyallt busy in Charlottesville, it’s difficult to get an early check in. Customer service is excellent!

The room was large and spacious, with a very large patio. Very unique for a hotel... but the patio door would not lock, which was alarming because the room next to us could have accessed that door if they wanted to... also, the carpet and furniture were dirty with red stains on them... but the property was nice and great location.

We were in room 215 trying to get to sleep and whoever was above us was stomping around banging doors or closets until midnight. It sounded like staff of some sort (is that a kitchen?) was already in my pajamas so I did not go down to the lobby to tell any staff (and there was no phone in the room). Very disappointed.

The property is great but the attempt to make everything digital fails. The hotel says it doesn’t have a front desk and when things don’t work you are left to figure out how up get help. Please stop this cost-saving experiment which doesn’t decrease costs (paid $1000 for 2 nights) for guests but makes the guest experience mystifying to poor. Staff a front desk please.

No staff. Check-in system doesn't work (filled all forms at 9:45a a.m., but I had to call customer service to get my room # and access code). Customer service doesn't own their mistake, no apologies. The room was ok. The coffee maker wasn't plugged in (required diving behind the fridge) and didn't work properly.

If you like doing everything by App this may a place for you. That is if the App worked as in send you the access codes to your room and elevator. If you like a Hotel with no employees, or front desk, and a hotel help desk that rings with no answer and a late call back, this place is perfect for you. How did they forget they are in the hospitality business.

Only option to check in was online only, had issues with website and no one there to help, very frustrating. No staff to help with issues, had to call a number. The surrounding areas of the hotel is a little run down, hotel was ok. Rooms and common areas are nice, hallways were dingy.

Online check in didn't work; website froze; had to call and get a new link. Info sent via text was incorrect. Said parking options were a paid lot seversl blocks away when valet parking was available. No instructions that elevator code was the same as room code. Hotel was MUCH better when it was Quirk. Will find other options when in Charlottesville.

First, we lost power during the visit. Not their fault, but a little annoying. My main issue is their lack of a front desk person or anyone to take a call on property. It’s all done remotely. Which is fine as long as someone still answers the phone on site. I had to call about a lost and found item and sat on hold for 20+ minutes. That is wild! As a hotel owner myself I could NEVER let a guest sit on hold for so long. At least get a phone number and call them back. I guess my item, even if at the property, is lost for good because there is no way I could sit on hold for so long.

The hotel is even nicer than it looks in pictures. The art-filled lobby is so pretty; the are rooms clean, spacious, and modern; the staff is so friendly and accommodating, and the spaces in the hotel are nice and relaxing. Great location between UVA and Downtown Mall with lots of dining options nearby, too.

Great location! Room was clean and modern. The staff we interacted with was very helpful and friendly. Loved being close to great restaurants and places to get a drink. A small plot a grass was right next door to let our pup out easily. If there were any dogs barking, I didn't hear a thing, the rooms were insulated so well! Would definitely stay here again!

Fantastic location, very clean, convenient to all of the downtown Charlottesville attractions. The valet parking is easy. The contact-free check in and check out and overall digital experience takes some getting used to - there are pros and cons to that I guess, but it isn't my favorite and I miss having more staff to lean on for assistance. The in-room coffee is terrible, but the cafe has delicious coffee and coffee drinks for purchase.

This hotel has 3 restaurants, it is clean and well maintained. Staff us helpful. The pre check in process is a pain. Especially if you're on the road and don't have time to for filling out forms and uploading documents.

Nice hotel. The room layout could be better. Not sure why there is a pocket door on the bathroom. Makes for limited privacy. Bartender was great and he made a great mezcal Negroni!

The decor and the multiple seating areas are great for meeting up with friends. Cute little coffee shop with awesome avocado toast but took a long time to get food (walked over from the hotel kitchen). The parking across the street was a little awkward but well lit at night. The bar area in our suite was very convenient. We didn't visit the rooftop bar during prime time, but the view of the mountains was amazing! Thanks for a memorable visit.
