Mercure Newport

I liked the seamless check in and check out process. I also liked the body, shampoo & hand wash & the perfect nights sleep in the very comfortable bed. I felt safe with the camera in the lift and the scanning of your room card to activate the lift. Sitting in the sun in the roof top bar was wonderful and when I ordered my evening meal it arrived in a short space of time and was very tasty. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Had a great time, property is well maintained. Bathroom needs more shelving/storage as nowhere to put anything. Complimentary shower gel etc. was just on the floor in the shower. Dispenser holders would be better. Bar shuts at 21:00 which is very early for a hotel! I would have expected at least until midnight, other than that all good!

Arrived at checkin only to be told that the facilities which had been advertised and for which I had paid to use - the bar and restaurant - were closed because they were hiring it to a private party. So hotel residents were not allowed to use the hotel facilities - totally disgraceful especially as no alternative or compensation was offered.

Nice hotel with a lovely rooftop terrace. Parking just a 2 min walk away.

Clean room with friendly staff and a reasonable menu in the dining room. Nearby parking in Friars Walk cost £7.50 overnight.

Mercure, Newport satnav takes you near proprty but unable to take you outside proprty which we found out after driving in circles then ringing reception. The hotel has no car park so nearest means not only paying £15 a night but also you have to walk in the rain to enter the hotel. This should be described before reserving a room. We had breakfast. The layout is clean but quality of food is cheap but has a good selection of choice. Rooms were comfortable & clean. No shower gel in shower. I would never stay at this proprty again unless having to.

High standard hotel with great amenities (including a fitness room). Parking is available at the shopping centre next door at very reasonable rates. Nice room, with good size TV. Easy traffic links to my business meeting location the following day.

Reasonably priced. City centre location with nearby secure parking (for a fee). Very quiet and clean rooms. Comfortable bed and powerful shower.

I select ‘parking’ as a filter in this app, with the assumption that provides on site parking with the hotel. I was therefore really annoyed that his hotel doesn’t have any parking! Instead, I had to park in the local multi story, and drag my luggage round the streets. Fix the app! If a hotel doesn’t provide parking, don’t list it as such.

Excellent service and room was spotless

Very clean, modern and well equipped. Only negative was the shower gel and and lotion dispensers were not filled and were empty.

Always book Mercure when staying in Newport but last nights stay wasn’t as good as usual. There was dirt behind the sinks in the bathroom including a used feminine applicator. The bed was comfortable but despite lots of pillows none seems to be comfortable. Lots of stains on wall in bathroom and could do with repainting. Not as clean as the rooms usually are. When you pay extra for junior suite you expect a certain experience, the hotel fell short this time.

Good size room comfy bed and bedding. Iron and board in room already with tea making facilities, a biscuit would have been a good addition, windows didn’t open and air on slow to work Our shower gel was empty but we already packed our own, Bathroom clean and up to date, bedroom walls grubby

This is one of those hotels with bedding and towels that smell like a greasy kitchen unfortunately. And one of our bath towels had an old plaster stuck to it. Shower tray was dirty. Otherwise great location.

The check in staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Would definitely stay at Mercure hotels again.

This hotel is excellent. The family rooms were perfect and very well equipped and spacious. Spotlessly clean, with everything you need and more. The food was delicious and the breakfast buffet fabulous. I have to say all of the staff we encountered, from our arrival at the reception, restaurant on the evening, cleaner we met on the lift and breakfast staff made us feel so valued and welcomed. We arrived at 6pm and headed off to look for cheaper food options. The area was not the nicest. Lots of teenagers, drunken people shouting, swearing and throwing glass bottles at cars passing and the two places we went to eat in didn't except children on an evening, even the Weather spoons. So, we headed back to the hotel and had a gorgeous meal if not a little overpriced but at least we felt safe. Overall, would 100% recommend the hotel as long as you don't leave it after the shops shut up l. Daytime the area was fine around the Friars shopping centre and the carpark at the centre was ideal and good value for money to park overnight. Thankyou to all the staff for making this hotel such a perfect place.

The room was spotless and I enjoyed my stay

Where do I start.... Checked into room 805 first thing I noticed was the desk was broke, the bed had a hair under the duvet. The toilet holder in the bathroom was loose(thought it was going to fall off at one point). Curtains were dirty and had stains on them. For £168.30 (2 nights) it was nowhere near worth the stay.

Clean and modern

Very comfortable, quiet and ideal for my overnight stopover for work. The double bed was made up from two singles pushed together, which was fine for me but might be uncomfortable for others.

The rooms are now a little run down. The sink was chipped, plenty of scuff marks everywhere. I had a junior suite and the sofa area was missing a small table to make it functional. Overall the stay was quiet and clean, but this place is starting to feel shabby. You can park in the nearby shopping center car park, but it would be nice if the Mercure could validate parking, or at least provide preferential rates.

Overall a lovely modern, clean hotel, but rooms are way too warm (we stayed in Nov) and the in-room temp controls don’t do anything to cool the room down. That was my only complaint.

Great hotel with comfortable and modern room, great view over the river from the top floor. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast had the usual selection of items. Decent location in the town centre.

Room was spacious, clean

The shower head was broken and kept falling off. Went to complain at desk a few times but no one was there each time.

The bathroom and some furniture was tired but the junior suite had nice window sill to sit on overlooking the river. Nice few soft drinks in the fridge

Aircon doesn't really work

Excellent service at check in and in the bar, super comfortable beds. Only issue was how warm the bedroom was with fully sealed windows and underpowered the air conditioning, so uncomfortably warm overnight despite it not being hot outside.

Good hotel. Overpriced for what you get. Noise insulation not great.

I arrived at the hotel after late evening to find out that they had overbooked the rooms and there was no room available for me, I then had to find another hotel in the area at night and as a woman on my own this made me feel unsafe as I was not familiar with the area. A full refund should be made as I had to pay for the other hotel on my credit card. Not even a phone call was received to tell me this or risk of this, very poor customer service. This is the reason I cannot rate the above as I didn't even stay there

We really enjoyed our stay here. Unfortunately it was interrupted during the night by a triggered fire alarm. I appreciate this can't have been foreseen. The only reason I however mentioned this was the treatment we received after the 2:30am wake up call. We all evacuated the hotel as expected. The staff during this evacuation were, in my opinion below par. There was no explanation as to why it had happened. There was no apology until we arrived home via email. There was very poor communication during the event. All we got was a "You can come back in now". No one explained anything after. Nothing was mentioned at breakfast or on check out. It just fell short of my expectations. However the positives were also worth mentioning. I paid for an additional service on arrive with a bottle of Prosecco and chocolate covered strawberries. These were well presented on arrival. The Prosecco was on ice. On top of this the bed was arranged with flower petals and balloons were blown up, Towels were also folded in the form of a heart. None of this was expected but their attention to detail here was definitely worth the £40 on top. Room service was great. Trevor who dealt with the majority of issues and additional services was incredible. Nothing was too much for him, and I can't thank him enough. The bed was very comfy. The pillows pleasent and the experience of the room itself was great. I couldn't fault the actual hotel. The only fall short was the staff handing.

All the staff we interacted with were excellent. The room and bathroom were clean and well maintained. The breakfast was tasty and the bar was great. The stay was very good value for money. I would not hesitate to stay here again if I was in Newport.

Hotel was great. No complaints but the reception had put people in the wrong rooms (we were a biggish party for a funeral) so when I left they told me my room hadn’t been paid for, I kept telling them the name they were saying was not me. I unfortunately was in a hurry to catch my Uber so had to pay. I 100% had paid for my 3 rooms already. Then had to message the other party and get my payment back from them.

All great with Hotel, but staff stand out. Very friendly and they kindly arranged an early morning Taxi to take me to Hospital for planned surgery.

The hotel is a very beautiful new build, very clean and tidy. I dined in the restaurant in the evening, gentleman that’s seated and served me was lovely, alongside a young man that brought me a free glass of wine. The beds are comfortable and the room is well designed. I had a minor issue when ordering room service as they were short staffed however received sincere apologies and free of charge late checkout. The staff at breakfast with very happy and friendly, I was assisted in taking away some food to my room. I would definitely recommend this hotel, the staff make the visit and stay worthwhile.

Good location, well appointed room. Terrible check in experience, one person on the desk at check in time it was a slow laborious process.

We absolutely loved our stay. The hotel is very new and everything was in pristine condition. You could literally smell the cleanliness walking around the hotel. The view from our room was amazing! The decor was really very luxurious. The staff at the hotel were incredible! Every single member of staff that we met from reception to housekeeping to the breakfast staff went the extra mile to ensure our family's stay was fantastic! We would love to visit again in the future. Thank you.

Conveniently located in the centre of Newport, close to the station, high street, market place and river. Good value with comfortable rooms.

Fabulous hotel in a deprived area. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room size generous with good amenities. Restaurant and bar excellent. Outside of the hotel Newport is dirty and deprived with no tourist experiences. Only positive is the short train rides to Cardiff and Bristol

Good location if you’re here for the rugby and the Tiny Rebel brewery. Try using the council run car parks .

Lovely hotel, but a few hicups. Not normal tea on the tea tray, had to go down to reception for some. Room temperature we fould not controll . Breakfast was definitely not the best ive had at a mercury hotel. Very littel choice. No hash browns, bacon just left out under lights to long so it was hard.

The entry was pretty grotty. Checkin was smooth and staff helpful. Our room was cooking on entry and took time to cool down. It seemed small and plain and well used. Bathroom very good. Bedding was disappointing. A way to thick mattress topper making the bed too soft and some well used pillows that should have been retired long ago. Dinner was nothing special just microwaved curry and a pre made pizza. Breakfast was very good! Overall disappointing for a well regarded brand? YMMV

I complained that our breakfast was freezing cold. I expected at least a partial refund but got an apology instead, after paying £33.90 for two breakfasts. Very disapointing.
