We stayed at the Fogo Resort for one night before departing Costa Rica. The hotel is in a privileged location up in the mountains above San José. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff, especially Evelyn, is knowledgeable and very helpful. The restaurant's breakfast was excellent. The views from the hotel are just wonderful. There is no A/C but since the property is at an elevation of 4500 ft no A/C is needed. Make sure to book a room with a view of the city; you will not regret it. Would definitely stay there on my next trip.

The property has an expectacular view. Highly recommend to visit for the view and get a bite at the restaurant. I won recommend to stay. There is no A/C anywhere and in March it is hot. Me quedé en Fogo una noche con mi esposa. El hotel es muy lindo y la vista es inmejorable. Nos quedamos en una Suite y la verdad estaba bastante bien, tal cual lo muestran las fotografías. Solamente vimos que el Jacuzzi no estaba super limpio, pero fuera de eso, todo lo demás estuvo bien. Cenamos en el restaurante italiano Ponte Vechio que está en el mismo hotel y todo estuvo super bien, la comida muy rica y la atención excelente. El desayuno estuvo muy bueno y la atención también excelente! Creo que es una muy buena opción para una escapa romántica.

The old hotel is beautiful, sort of like a southern mansion. Don't expect perfection, but the staff and view make the place quite nice. Easy to get a taxi if you are not driving, and the restaurant and bar on the premises are fine. Amazing views make a lovely place for and evening drink. Best thing was the staff--check-in, bar staff, and everyone else were fantastic.

I was going to leave a nasty review again about Fogo but decided to say our visit was acceptable and perhaps will stay again. We arrived shortly after 1 pm knowing that the published checkin time was 3 pm. Reception and the female manager said our room was ready but we would need to pay 13 dollars x 3 people if we wanted an early checkin. I lost it! After much verbal discussion, they agreed to waive their early checkin fee. Will eating an overpriced soup lunch on property, a staff person came to the table and said we were upgraded to the penthouse which was about 4 stories high via stairs. The stay was OK but initial observations to extract more money from us not so much! They did carry our heavy bags up and down from their penthouse which as appreciated.

Great experience for very little money. Great views. The room was basic and in need of updates but spotless. Reception was very nice and service oriented. My only warning would be would be a caution to seniors. Our room was on the third floor and the hotel has no elevator. We had help taking our heavy bags up but none on the way out as it was a very early departure. Just a caution. The restaurant was wonderful and crowded for dinner. Still full till lunch the next day. Enjoy

The staff are absolutely wonderful. Would really prefer that they have a website with more details & menus. An information card or something to tell me, when is breakfast? when is lunch? what is the wifi password? other basics would be nice. Don't come here if you're looking for a conveniently walkable spot, not that you really should because the property is gorgeous and if you have a quiet stay it's a great place to be. Uber everywhere, uber eats everything (but be ready for hefty delivery/service cost). The room was fine, view was INCREDIBLE. Bathroom meh and floor starting to crack, but the building is also a 100 year old plantation. Nice place to recover from a surgery but lack of info could be improved :) Pamphlets in the room would be perfect - bonus points for more history on the building.

Do not fall for the photos. This place is a dump. I have plenty of photos to show you. After one night we left as we felt unsafe. No smoke detector in the room, floors buckeling, torn curtains- the list goes on.

Al lugar le falta mucho mantenimiento. Las sabanas estaban sucias, lastimosamente nos dimos cuenta hasta que ya nos ibamos, escogimos la habitacion del piso mas arriba e hizo mucho calor, solo hay ventiladores, no hay aire acondicionado, entonces en las epocas calientes es bastante incomodo.

Un lugar poco aseado, no se podía dormir, era demasiado el escándalo ya que en el lugar hace fiestas, constantemente. Y en sus alrededores la música es muy alta. No lo recomiendo para descansar.

This hotel is located on a steep hill with a superb view of the San Jose. Our room was very spacious but lacking a desk or a table to work and a chair. The building has a very nice architecture with a lot of details. Breakfast was great. Over all, a great place if you want to escape the hustling and bustling of San Jose.

Entire rooms have no a/c. I reserved a room which upon arrival they stated they had a problem with room so they we’re switching rooms which the room didn’t look anywhere near the rooms showed on web site They charged my credit card and wouldn’t issue a credit stating it was Expedia who issue’s credit. And no where on website states no a/c in sleeping rooms No happy now needed to reserve another room and call for car service again. Complete disaster

En mi caso se pagó por la habitación llamada Suite; al indicar que las fotografías de la página no eran igual a la habitación, me indicaron que las fotografías eran una "referencia". Tambien se tuvo problemas con las cortinas, las cuales no bloqueaban toda la luz de la mañana, por lo cuál apenas amaneció tuvimos la habitación totalmente clara y no pudimos dormir hasta tarde

The old hotel is beautiful, sort of like a southern mansion. Don't expect perfection, but the staff and view make the place quite nice. Easy to get a taxi if you are not driving, and the restaurant and bar on the premises are fine. Amazing views make a lovely place for and evening drink. Best thing was the staff--check-in, bar staff, and everyone else were fantastic.

The staff are absolutely wonderful. Would really prefer that they have a website with more details & menus. An information card or something to tell me, when is breakfast? when is lunch? what is the wifi password? other basics would be nice. Don't come here if you're looking for a conveniently walkable spot, not that you really should because the property is gorgeous and if you have a quiet stay it's a great place to be. I was going to leave a nasty review again about Fogo but decided to say our visit was acceptable and perhaps will stay again. We arrived shortly after 1 pm knowing that the published checkin time was 3 pm. Reception and the female manager said our room was ready but we would need to pay 13 dollars x 3 people if we wanted an early checkin. I lost it! After much verbal discussion, they agreed to waive their early checkin fee. Will eating an overpriced soup lunch on property, a staff person came to the table and said we were upgraded to the penthouse which was about 4 stories high via stairs. The stay was OK but initial observations to extract more money from us not so much! They did carry our heavy bags up and down from their penthouse which as appreciated.

Great experience for very little money. Great views. The room was basic and in need of updates but spotless. Reception was very nice and service oriented. My only warning would be would be a caution to seniors. Our room was on the third floor and the hotel has no elevator. We had help taking our heavy bags up but none on the way out as it was a very early departure. Just a caution. The restaurant was wonderful and crowded for dinner. Still full till lunch the next day. This hotel is located on a steep hill with a superb view of the San Jose. Our room was very spacious but lacking a desk or a table to work and a chair. The building has a very nice architecture with a lot of details. Breakfast was great. Over all, a great place if you want to escape the hustling and bustling of San Jose.

Me quedé en Fogo una noche con mi esposa. El hotel es muy lindo y la vista es inmejorable. Nos quedamos en una Suite y la verdad estaba bastante bien, tal cual lo muestran las fotografías. Solamente vimos que el Jacuzzi no estaba super limpio, pero fuera de eso, todo lo demás estuvo bien. Cenamos en el restaurante italiano Ponte Vechio que está en el mismo hotel y todo estuvo super bien, la comida muy rica y la atención excelente. El desayuno estuvo muy bueno y la atención también excelente! Creo que es una muy buena opción para una escapa romántica.
