Room was average for a Palace Resort had no airconditioning, no cold fridge, no hot water for approx 5 nites. Elevators were not functioning at full capacity. The first two nights no air, no cold fridge,no hot water - air came back third day but again no air for 3 additional nights. Very disappointing! They should have backup generators for a property that size! We should be reimbursed for the inconvenience we endured! The buffet area was more like a cafeteria! The speciality restaurants had long waiting times and the food at the speciality restaurants was not good and cold. Steak house was okay Buffet food was not bad but extremely busy Looking forward to talking to customer service at Expedia. Please contact me at +16472978919 .

The hotel is beautiful and has a lovely beach with no seaweed (sargassum). Everything is very clean, and the water park is fantastic for both kids and adults. I’m giving it 4 stars mainly because of the food. The buffet lacks flavor in most dishes, especially in the pizza and pasta area. We went to the Mexican restaurant, but everything was dry — we had to leave in the middle of dinner and go back to the buffet. At the steakhouse, we ordered the ribeye medium, but it came out way too dry. The natural juices were also very watery. On the positive side, the pool entertainment team, especially Nacho, was great! We had a lot of fun during his Aqua Gym session. I would stay here again, but I’d think twice because of the food — from 1 to 10, I’d give it a 6.

The Good: We truly appreciated the cleanliness of the hotel, the wide variety of food options, and the exceptional service from the staff. Everyone we interacted with was kind, attentive, and thoroughly professional, which made our stay all the more enjoyable. Areas for Improvement: The most significant issue we encountered was with the theater experience. Unfortunately, the lighting was very poor, making it difficult to see the performers on stage—this impacted our ability to enjoy the shows fully. Enhancing the lighting in this area would greatly improve the experience for future guests. Additionally, the hotel’s location is quite remote, with only one store on the property. To enrich the guest experience and bring more local flavor, we suggest adding vendor stands offering Mexican products such as candy, hats, and other cultural items. We also found that the beach is quite a distance from the nearest bar. When drinks were delivered, they often lacked ice by the time they arrived. Installing a bar station closer to the beach would greatly improve convenience and refreshment. Last but not least, in my room there was a table with a glass top, the glass is loose and had a chip, I set a ice bucket over the glass and it cracked, I was charged for the replacement :(

I don’t really have anything bad to say, except some of the food wasn’t too good but the steakhouse steaks were really good. They had a lot of options for lunch and the breakfast buffet was really good. The pool areas were amazing and there seems like about six or seven pools and at least least two or three of them were adult only. We booked a room with a private pool and it felt like the pool was heated, but I’m not sure. All in all I would 100% go back. The parties are just so much fun. This place was a 10 out of 10 for sure. It was my birthday and they probably did about three or four things just to tell me happy birthday. Loved it.

Service and activities were great. I would recommend improving the gym facilities- the room is small when compared to the number of guests at the hotel. It was often at capacity at all times in the morning and I was unable to workout at 7am with all cardio machines and weights being used. Overall was a great week.

The hotel was great but there’s a problem with their toilet flushes. Also, I find their buffet food very salty. The pools are warm which is our number one favourite. Lots of places to hang out and drink. I love the location, it’s far from the hustle and bustle and it’s safe. Most hotels in Mujeres area have checkpoints.

One thing I don’t like they should do something about people putting the towels on the beach in the pool chairs and they never come back so they reserved but nobody is using them and I have to walk around. Look for empty spot.

Staff at morning and mid day buffet were excellent with Pacho and Lilliam . the lounge bar with Alfredo and Phillipe the same. As it was only my wife and I I would say the only negative was the delineation between adults and children. One pool was not enough for adults whereas the children had the waterpark and 2 other pools

This resort was perfect for a family vacation. My kids loved the waterpark, pools, and beach! The beach was gorgeous, with the softest white sand I have ever seen. The watercolor was beautiful turquoise and the palm trees that lined the beach offered plenty of shade and another touch of beauty to the landscape. The landscaping around resort was well kept and beautiful, I enjoyed looking at all the plants and my kids loved the iguanas and lizards we found around the resort. The food was good; and the staff was friendly and attentive. The only complaint I had was the bathrooms by pool, buffet were not cleaned as much as I would like. Also our room wasn’t cleaned well when we first got checked in, the sheets even had some questionable stains on them. I made a complaint the first day and they came in and did a deep clean and after that they continued to provide awesome housekeeping. The other complaint I would bring up is you can only get bottled water from the lounge, which is very far from pool/beach. I would grab waters on the way down to pool but it would have been nice to have them available at the bars located at pool. Overall great stay, and would recommend to other families traveling with kids!

On arrival, our room had been cleaned but not to a great standard. Hair left in the shower, and on the toilet seat, items from prior guests left in the room. Requested they come back and was told there was nothing wrong with it. The next morning housekeeping did a great clean and I was happier moving forward. The facilities are great, food was good enough and I had a beautiful massage at the spa. Overall I’d say the hotel is 3.5 stars at best, due to the condition and cleanliness of the rooms.

This property was beautiful! The only reason I did not give a perfect rating is because our hotel bathrooms weren’t the cleanest. There were residue on the walls and toilet seats. I ended up cleaning the room myself! Also , on our second night there , we returned to our room with the beds straightened, the towels and rags restocked, which was all good until we learned that house keeping made a bowel movement in our room and never flushed or cleaned the toilet afterwards. It was just there for us to discover when we returned! I was completely disgusted!!! This review is strictly on our most recent stay. I will absolutely return to this resort but, the housekeeper/keepers who serviced our room before and during our stay can be better. Also, the resort should consider wristbands that open the doors as we found it very difficult to get in and out our rooms trying to search for a key.

Room smelled like mold, so they sprayed a ton of cleaning products everywhere which made it worse. Finally the gave me a clean room. Food was ok but I got cramps from something. The place is super nice to look at and the beach is awesome

Overall 6/10 stay. IMO, the resort needs some updating/sprucing up. The grounds are meticulously maintained, but the rooms is where some of that attention needs to be. Our room had blood on the bathroom wall, half used conditioner and lotion bottles. Water leaked continuously from the shower out onto the main floor. None of the restaurants take reservations. It was chaos. We got to the steakhouse at 6:30 and they said they were no longer taking anymore guests for the night! However people that were staying at the resort, invited us to dinner with them and were able to add us 2 to their reservation after 8p. The food, all over the resort, overall 7/10. Staff was amazing. Beach is beautiful! Walked down the beach and while other resorts had piles of sargassum, there was none insight at Riu. We checked out after 2 days and went down to Majestic Elegance which is what we’re used too. So maybe we’re just too “uppity” for this resort. Will we return, no. But that’s not to say the next person won’t have a grand time. We just have preferences as far as what we like. We tried something new and it showed us why we typically stick to what we know.

The property is super clean, the staff is extra friendly, the restaurants all have delicious meals. The buffet has a hundred different food options for everyone's liking. At night they have fun shows and music acts for entertainment. The beach is clean and beautiful. The drinks keep coming. They also have fun activities everyday for kids. The rooms are big and have daily room service. Definitely coming back. Great job RIU!

We stayed for a week with my husband for our post marathon quiet, relaxing vacation. We loved how big is the beach, and how long you can walk along the beach to both sides. Water is clean and no seaweed. There are palm trees on the beach that provide shade. We had a nice room with partial ocean view and we loved that it was very quiet so we could relax and enjoy our vacation. Room was cleaned daily and we loved the service. Hotel design was simple, but we loved all the staff of the hotel. Everyone was so nice and attentive to us. Restaurant food was good, a little bit less variety of food than in other RIU resorts we stayed. Gym was open since 5 am. If you are runner, your running option would be most likely a treadmill, since beach sand is a bit too soft or run on and there’s not much territory to run around hotel. And at security points they have a few streets dogs, as well as on the beach we saw about 5 dogs walking together which is a bit scary. When we brought up the street dog’s situation at the checkout they said it’s not their dogs and they can’t control it. Which may influence my future decision to come back to that hotel or not. Lots of mosquitoes everywhere and it doesn’t look like they do anything about it like in other RIU. Overall it was a good hotel and we enjoyed our stay.

My only complaint is booking a more expensive Ocean front room and they put us under the resturaunt it was so loud from chairs and carts the whole night we had to move rooms. Everything else was perfect!

Only problem with the hotel is the soundproof. You can 100% hear when people walk by the hallway. Especially when there’s activities at 9-10pm.

The hotel is beautiful and kept well cleaned. The rooms are a bit weird in design as tub is next to bed. If traveling with friends there is no privacy for bath or shower. The food for this resort at restaurants and buffet was good. No issues there. Entertainment not the best. They round you up to play volleyball and worker leaves after getting it started. Overall good property! Pretty standard offering for an all-inclusive resort. Couple of items that are lacking: 1. The beds in the rooms are pretty small. Stated as doubles, but they seemed much smaller than that. Two children on one bed felt cramped, not to mention two adults. 2. The restaurants were underwhelming. The buffet was the best option and the food was great, but the a la carte offerings were disappointing to us.

I was traveling with my children, and I found the design of the shower area problematic. The glass doors were not opaque enough, which made it uncomfortable to use the shower with my daughters present in the room. I had to cover the door with a blanket to ensure privacy. While this setup might be ideal for couples, it doesn't offer the necessary privacy for families or friends sharing a room. I believe more consideration should be given to different types of guests

Beautiful resort. Riu new design complex. Very clean & organized. Although… we were room 0167. Great ocean view & location to pools. The room is located below the Taste buffet. Chairs & tables dragging all hours. Mostly meal time ( barely stand the noise) & all night when staff are cleaning. Not much sleep or afternoon resting in room. We have been to quite a number of Riu resorts , this location & incredible beaches are now one of our favourites in Cancun area We will return , just not staying near the past location. .

Incredibly clean resort. Staff and service were great. The beds are 5 inches narrower than a regular full-sized bed, and that was a major problem. We had a terrible experience with the Japanese restaurant. The guy gave us a buzzer and said there was 45 minutes of wait. We waited 40 minutes and returned to check whether our turn was close. The guy said he already buzzed it a long time ago. The buzzer never buzzed. He then shrugged his shoulders and said there is nothing more he could do other than giving us another buzzer and wait another 45 minutes. His attitude was negative, arrogant and unhelpful. Very poor customer service for a 5 star Riu Palace. We have been to Riu hotels 6 times. After this experience we will never spend our hard earned money there.

Staff entered our room and gathered our belongings, moved them to another room, without our knowledge or consent. Girl at front desk, lied and denied having a conversation with us. General Manager stood by her side, said we we lying and they did nothing wrong. A simple apology and acknowledgment of the situation would have been appreciated. Luna, the General Manager was a horrible host. Couldn’t even make a meeting that she set on Tim. I had to wait 15 extra minutes.

I visited this hotel in 2019 it was immaculate and it still is very well kept in 2024. The service, and customer care is fantastic they really ensured we had all we needed for our stay. Thank you Riu workers and management, we will certainly be back.

We experienced several issues during our stay that significantly impacted our comfort and overall impression of the property. For three consecutive days, we had no air conditioning or hot water, which made it extremely difficult to rest, especially with the constant loud banging and noise throughout the hotel during both daytime and nighttime hours. While the food was satisfactory and the dining staff provided excellent service, we were disappointed by the lack of dress-code enforcement. It was uncomfortable to see some guests allowed into the dining areas wearing inappropriate attire, such as spandex or clothing that was not suitable for a resort setting. Additionally, our interactions with the front desk staff were not pleasant. They were neither friendly nor accommodating, and did not appear willing to address the concerns we raised during our stay. Overall, we were not impressed with this hotel. Having stayed at other Riu Palace locations, we expected a higher standard of service and hospitality. Unfortunately, this property did not meet those expectations, and we would not choose to return.

My family had a fantastic stay here. Staff and facilities were outstanding. Have traveled to Cancun and the surrounding area several times prior to this, and we agreed this was our favorite resort so far. The beach area was particularly great here - very clean and less congested than the beaches in the hotel district. Certainly worth the longer drive from Quintana Roo. Would definitely return.

Our suite was beautiful with excellent housekeeping, including a cute towel figure on the bed daily. The resort has many restaurants and a lovely cappuccino cafe. There are multiple pools and the beach is stunning -- we walked the miles of white sand every day. The biggest downside is that the location is north of Cancun in Costa Mujeres and very isolated. Unlike many resort areas you can't just walk outside and access public transportation or walk to shopping, nightclubs, or recreational places. We ordered Uber and taxis at an additional expense. There is also no shuttle to and from the airport. It is a beautiful resort if you want to stay there and not go anywhere.

Although this hotel is a bit of a drive from the downtown area, I was happy to be away from that area with young kids. The resort is beautiful, we visited during a busy vacation week and could still find chairs at the beach and pools with plenty of shade. Water slides were so much fun for kids and adults as well and the splash pad was perfect for younger kids. The food was excellent for an all inclusive. The water is so clear, so blue, no seaweed here. The staff was amazing from housekeeping to servers, kids club, even the photographer staff. Room was average for a Palace Resort had no airconditioning, no cold fridge, no hot water for approx 5 nites. Elevators were not functioning at full capacity. The first two nights no air, no cold fridge,no hot water - air came back third day but again no air for 3 additional nights. Very disappointing! They should have backup generators for a property that size! We should be reimbursed for the inconvenience we endured! The buffet area was more like a cafeteria! The speciality restaurants had long waiting times and the food at the speciality restaurants was not good and cold. The hotel is beautiful and has a lovely beach with no seaweed (sargassum). Everything is very clean, and the water park is fantastic for both kids and adults. I’m giving it 4 stars mainly because of the food. The buffet lacks flavor in most dishes, especially in the pizza and pasta area. We went to the Mexican restaurant, but everything was dry — we had to leave in the middle of dinner and go back to the buffet. At the steakhouse, we ordered the ribeye medium, but it came out way too dry. The natural juices were also very watery. On the positive side, the pool entertainment team, especially Nacho, was great! We had a lot of fun during his Aqua Gym session. I would stay here again, but I’d think twice because of the food — from 1 to 10, I’d give it a 6.

One of the strong points is the beach. When we visited from 10/30-11/4 absolutely no sargasm. Beach was sandy and in pristine condition. Food at each of the restaurants was good, we especially liked some of the food at the Japanese and Mexican restaurant.

RIU Palace at Costa Mujeres is a beautiful place, with enough greenery not to feel like you are in concrete jungle setting, with an awesome beach! Entertainment will keep you engaged if you are easily bored. Make sure you know where the nearest restaurants are, in case you need to use one, as there is a shortage of them on a resort. Bring mosquito spray!!! If you travel with kids, the non-alcoholic beverages from the bars are great for kids, but if you want an adult drink, low quality liquor is what you'll get. Food options will keep you from being hungry. From buffet, to bar grills, to restaurants. However if you want a more upscale dining experience, look else where as you'll not find it at this resort! Overall 6/10 stay. IMO, the resort needs some updating/sprucing up. The grounds are meticulously maintained, but the rooms is where some of that attention needs to be. Our room had blood on the bathroom wall, half used conditioner and lotion bottles. Water leaked continuously from the shower out onto the main floor. None of the restaurants take reservations. It was chaos. We got to the steakhouse at 6:30 and they said they were no longer taking anymore guests for the night! However people that were staying at the resort, invited us to dinner with them and were able to add us 2 to their reservation after 8p. The food, all over the resort, overall 7/10. Staff was amazing. Beach is beautiful! Walked down the beach and while other resorts had piles of sargassum, there was none insight at Riu. We checked out after 2 days and went down to Majestic Elegance which is what we’re used too. So maybe we’re just too “uppity” for this resort. Will we return, no. But that’s not to say the next person won’t have a grand time. We just have preferences as far as what we like. We tried something new and it showed us why we typically stick to what we know.
Overall 6/10 stay. IMO, the resort needs some updating/sprucing up. The grounds are meticulously maintained, but the rooms is where some of that attention needs to be. Our room had blood on the bathroom wall, half used conditioner and lotion bottles. Water leaked continuously from the shower out onto the main floor. None of the restaurants take reservations. It was chaos. We got to the steakhouse at 6:30 and they said they were no longer taking anymore guests for the night! However people that were staying at the resort, invited us to dinner with them and were able to add us 2 to their reservation after 8p. The food, all over the resort, overall 7/10. Staff was amazing. Beach is beautiful! Walked down the beach and while other resorts had piles of sargassum, there was none insight at Riu. Beautiful resort, amazing beach, great staff.. beds weren’t comfortable, drinks were inconsistent. Buffet was the same thing every day for breakfast and dinner. Nothing bad really just not spectacular

THE ONE REVIEW TO HELP YOU PICK YOUR HOTEL: I have been to numerous all inclusive resorts in the Cancun area. This one is by far the WORST. Let me tell you why.. This resort is advertised to be much better than other Riu resorts since it is a “palace”. The food is better? Unless you are at the restaurants at 6:30pm, you will eat at the buffet every night (all the restaurants were filled by 7:30 with elite club reservations). Which is the exact same at Riu Dunamar or Latino. Two pool bars? No. One is entirely reserved for their elite club. Even riu Dunamar and Latino have two pool bars and THEY ARE CHEAPER. That means their one pool bar is absolutely saturated with people. So many people in that one bar area that it smells like sewage. Since its a palace does that mean that the beach area is better than the neighboring riu’s? No. There was so much seaweed that it smelled like actual feces and no one was in the ocean. SUMMARY: Save your money and go to riu latino or dunamar. They are the same exact thing with better chances at eating in restaurants and the same beach AND CHEAPER AND TWO ACTUAL POOL BARS. Also, two adult men in my party got food poisoning and Adrian from customer service looked my in the face and said that maybe they drank pool water. He then directed me to their pharmacy where i spent $45 on medication.
