MainStay Suites Southfield-Detroit

Location was good. Hotel has an odor in hallway and room, just didnt smell clean. Walls and carpet was dirty. There was no kitchrn supplies and no extra roll of tissue for bathroom. Bottles of shampoo and conditioner and body wash in shower was empty. Bathroom mat was stained. Hotel needs a revamp. It does not live up to the other Sonesta hotels ive stayed at.

Light broken in kitchen area and not repaired, stove has a shortage in it and I have to continuously reset the timer in 10 to 15 minutes in order to cook.

The kitchen had NO cutlery, pots or pans, glasses or any cups or glasses

This is a no frills type of accommodation. Our room was directly across from a laundry room and people did laundry and made noise all night long. Entrance smelled of pot. The night clerk was friendly and brought towels and coffee pot which were missing from our room. Hotel does not have an ice machine.

The first room they put us in had no heat, no shower curtain, dirty silverware, the room was dirty, some random guy walked in while i was sleeping, and the smoke alarm was missing. They did move me to another room, which was better. Only one working washer in the laundry facility. Our keycards randomly stopped working several times. A lot of crazy activity (baby stealing, drugs, etc)

They don’t have USB ports. I know coffee maker.

The problem I had was I purchased a suite one bedroom, the website said utensils pots and pans would be in room . It wasn’t any pots or pans or utensils in my room … there was dishes from the last people dirty in the dishwasher no face towels in my room … already had to wait a extra hour when I got there for the room to be cleaned . The sink was broke kept filling up and disposal was broken . For $330 for a room this was to me just too much problems. I checked out early..

This should not have been a rented unit! Toilet didn't want to flush! No coffee in room as stated although I did ask and was brought some. Coffee pot was broke, numerous drawers were broke or stuck open. Microwave didn't work light continuously on! TV and TV remote didn't work properly. TV died this morning when trying to lower volume. I have pictures of all. There was absolutely no security in the place the doors to enter in were wide open all night! It was advertised as a suite to be able to cook in but there was nothing in the room for to do any of this. Bed so hard I had to sleep in the recliner in the room and without help getting out of it I wouldn't have been able to! Hole in wall behind recliner as well. The desk clerks in formed me it was under new management but I wouldn't have known because they all seemed to know nothing. I was not able to get a receipt for my stay. Nor was that clerk any help! I would never ever recommend this place I actually want my money back!

The hotel room was full of roaches. Terrible! Never again!

This room was filthy. There was hair in the tub. Soap dispensers were empty. There were bottom tops left near the wall and bed. The light switch had a sticky substance on it. The sink was dirty. I am asking for my money back.

Absolutely Disgusting – Stay Away I’ve stayed in some questionable places, but Sonesta Simply Suites Detroit Southfield takes the cake for being the most revolting hotel experience I’ve ever had. The moment I walked into the room, it was clear this place had zero standards for cleanliness or professionalism. Let’s start with the bathroom — there were bugs crawling in the tub, which immediately made me question when the place was last cleaned. Then I noticed dried puke on the wall and hair tangled in the towels. Not a stray hair. Not two. But a nest of someone else’s hair twisted into what was supposed to be a “clean” towel. I had prepaid for a specific room — larger, more expensive — only to be told at check-in that it was “accidentally” given away. Instead, they shoved me into a smaller, cheaper room and shrugged it off like it was no big deal. No refund, no upgrade, not even a sincere apology. To top it all off, the receptionist casually mentioned someone told him that working here looked bad on his resume. And honestly? I get it. If this hotel were on fire, I’d still recommend sleeping in the ashes over booking another night here. Do NOT stay here. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the two women at the counter. Both of them were amazing! They were the best part of the stay because they were so polite and accommodating. However, I realized that the hotel smelled like cigarettes. This smell was all throughout the halls. When I got to my room, it had a much more pleasant smell, but I did see and kill several roaches in the hotel room and in the bathroom. There were also no dishes of any kind in the kitchen area and the water at the kitchen sink didn't work. In the bathroom, the area on the cabinet (next to the toilet) had not been cleaned. There were splashes of something all over it. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash containers in the shower were empty and extremely old.

Horrible place to stay. Reserved my room a week in advance and when I got there it wasnt cleaned yet. I had to change rooms 4 different times because every one they tried to put me in was dirty. The room I finally got the next day was cleaner than the others but still dirty. The hallways reek of weed and the trash is over flowing with god knows what. It smells like days old seafood. The are around the hotel didn’t seem bad but cops are constantly patrolling the hotel parking lot. Apparently the hotel is know for drugs and prostitution. I would highly recommend paying a little more and going somewhere else.

The Sonesta Suites hotel Southfield is an awful place to stay. There was an awful stench in the room that seemed to be coming from the carpet. There were bed bugs in the room and I informed 3 people, including 2 ladies that claimed to be management and nothing was done about it. I had fresh bite marks on my arms and legs that weren’t present before sleeping in that room. Unfortunately I don’t remember their names, but the 1st lady (who is pregnant) said she would make a call and that someone would be coming that week but no one did. I had to follow up myself because none of the “managers” did ANYTHING they said they were going to do. The 2nd person I complained to(after my clothes had been stolen from the dryer) wasn’t even aware of my initial complaint. I told her that my clothes were stolen and about the bedbugs and requested a refund. Of course she said she would get someone out Asap about the bedbugs And would follow up with me about my refund request. Again someone saying they were going to do something, but did nothing. They didn’t care because it wasn’t them in a room with a terrible smell and bedbugs. I always had to follow up with them because nothing was being done. This place doesn’t deserve any stars. Also, the side doors stayed propped open ALL DAY EVERY DAY, which meant anything and anyone could come in. Again this hotel is an awful place to stay and I’m going to make sure I tell anyone who will listen about my experience there. I checked out this past Saturday

Not a great neighborhood. kinda scary. checked in went to room,key hard time working, finally in, stench in room, no towels or coffee maker, silverware in drawer dirty. Lock broken just dangling on door Carpet disgusting hair and oily splooge all over headboard! I have pictures!!!!!!Look at the closeup!!! gross Had to clean that! No hot water on friday night or saturday, sunday morning warm. All weekend i struggled with getting the key to work! This place needs to be checked out by health inspectors! Soooo disgusting!!!!

Front desk staff was nice however the room was in terrible condition. Things were broken, missing, dirty and in terrible condition. Will definitely never stay here again.

Dirt in bathroom and living area. Broken towel rack and unusable microwave, handles torn off. Dust all over. Smoke smell in room and it permeated all my clothes even clothes in suitcase. Hallways dirty and doors. Dingy. Bottom of lamp looks like someone spilled on it. Asked for maintenance suppose to be next day, no record. Use to be real nice place. People outside window smoking. Torn screen and window left unlocked and open on arrival. TV did not work in living room. Remote not working in living room Must have gotten worst suite. Substandard hotel

The room I was given had used gum on the back of the lamp, rust stains were on the floor lamp, and burn marks were on the nightstand. The ceiling in the restroom was broken from previous water damage, and towel rack was plastered back on the floor wall and the shower curtain had stains on it. The picture on the walls’ frame was broken in places and put back on the wall. The plastic cover for the hvac had a hole it. The carpet in the room looks to not have been vaccumed well in a while. Both lamp shades were cracked and just left on lamps in there place. The paper towel roll had 2 pieces left. The back to the remote was missing so someone taped the batteries back in. The sitting chair was stained badly and had threads coming out, the office chair had big rips in it like Wolverine had been in there. The refrigerator sounded as if it was going to shake away from the wall or explode. Stains on the headboard and kitchen drawers. Almost any surface that could be chipped was. The smell of Marijuana no longer stayed in the hall way after 2 hours and started to come into my room triggering my coughing. There were cobb webs and caked on dirt spots everywhere. And the side entry/after hour door is as about 4 to 6 room from mine and at no point does it lock. Good things about the room was staff is friendly, the tv worked and the key worked.

The refrigerator in my suite was broken and smelled horrible. The sink was stopped up and garbage disposal didn’t work so the drain smelled horrible. There were gnats coming out of the sink. The electrical In The room must have had a short In It because all the lamps flickered and the cable box to the tv kept clicking on and off. The floor looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed and the air coming out of the heater/air conditioner smelled musty. The only reason I stayed was because it was late and I needed to sleep but I was very disappointed and I will never book this hotel again.

Didn’t even stay in the room I left the hotel . The room door didn’t even close all the way and there was no lights that worked in the room .

The front desk man was surely Two televisions. Neither worked. Hallway stunk

The toilet wasn’t working. The body wash and shampoo bottles were empty.

Checked into the hotel and went inside my room the bed was unmade. Food was still in the sink water leaking from the sink and hotel would not refund me my money.

I waited a whole hour and a half for the person to give me a room someone was already in Throw up was in the elevator it was jus terrible all around

Poor front desk staff. No blanket or comforter on bed. Front staff said they don't normally put blanket/comforters on beds, just a bed sheet. Insane!!! The delivered a blanket the next day. I will never stay there again or any of their locations.

The manager at this property is so kind and professional. Extremely helpful. I would referral this hotel to all my family n friends

This hotel is filthy and kept my $$ after telling me I could have a refund. I arrived at 3:30 for my 3:00 check in. My room was not ready. The bathroom in the lobby had no soap, toilet paper or paper towels. While waiting over 20 minutes for my room, I witnessed guest coming to the front desk to complain about the filth of their rooms, having to change the linens themselves at check in, dirty toilets, with visible “funk” on the toilet seat, appliances not working. I asked if I could please have a refund so I could go get another hotel. Jeff the front clerk said he was not authorized to do so, another employee, by the name of Chanel walked up and granted me a refund. Three weeks later, I still have no refund, I’ve called the hotel multiple times and keep getting told they have refunded my money.

We checked in kinda late( around 10:30pm) and was greeted with a smile...then the problems started. We were told we couldn't pay in cash. The first room we were given, the key wouldn't work.The second room wasn't completely cleaned. The clerk sent us back to the first room and used a master key to unlock the door, he told us that the manager comes in the morning and would give us a key, but also said that someone was available to let us back in if we needed to leave the room...well, that didn't exactly happen. We came down to let someone know that we didn't have a shower curtain, the front desk was locked up and no one was answering the phone that is left there for us to call for any issues. Eventually someone appeared, as a crowd formed, all with problems with their rooms. The gentleman did manage to find us a shower curtain and let us back into our room. The morning manager arrived and immediately started to rectify all of our issues. She sent maintenance to our room and he completely replaced the lock and gave us keys. She apologized for any inconvenience (she was great). Even with the problems, we will probably give this location another try in the future. We will definitely check in earlier in the day, Lol.

Wasnt even able to get in. No one was at the desk to check me in. Soon as you walk in the door people we congregating and smokng. Being a non smoker walking into a smoke filled facility is not a good look.

No one was at the concierge desk to greet us for about 5 minutes. After finally receiving my room key, my family and I walked to our assigned room only to find it occupied. After returning to the front desk , the attendant proceeded to assign two other rooms and they were booked as well. The manager was called and the end result suggested was a refund. I am currently waiting to receive my refund. Unfortunately, when the Expedia representative called the hotel multiple times, no one answered. This was a horrible experience

Chanel was the friendliest and most help person I have ever had to check in with she made sure everything was handle in a timely fashion

Staff were super friendly. The place for what it is and price , I couldn’t complain. Close to a lot as well.

Would not recommend, loud and noisy, lots of smoking in rooms and on property. Also a physical fight occurred right outside my room on the back parking lot. Lots of transient, people stay in this hotel. The young lady at the front desk was nice that's the only good thing I can say about this property.

Excellent location and very cost efficient.

we checked in but didn’t stay. first clue were the several police cars in the parking lot. I did however, try to keep a positive mindset and went inside. I knew as soon as i walked in my instincts were spot on. it was a very small checkin area that looked like something many decades old with no hint of modernity. People hanging out at desk trying to get a room along with others hanging out outside just because maybe? I went to the room really hoping at least the room would be good….nope. Lighting made it dingy looking as one of the lights was out. even though we didn’t need AC, the unit was noticeably busted. We did not want to test the bed and pill out couch we would have to sleep on. We decided to not stay and went to our usual place and now out $200 extra bucks….but being safe and comfortable is priceless. II think this Sonesta is a local spot where people checkin for interesting reasons…

Properly was overgrown and unkept. It made for an insecure feeling in parking lot. Lots of potential I hope they clean it up quick

Worst place ever. Thank God my reservation was messed up. Instead of the 4 days I was supposed to stay I changed it to only 1 .The building had a funny smell. The top cover was dirty. Looked like some kind of dried up body fluid. I pulled the covers back to spray the bed. I always carry my microban. Blood stains were on the sheets. I go to tell the receptionist she says ok. I'll get on it. Waited almost 30 minutes I go back downstairs. Lobby full of young people, loud music, men rolling tires through the back door down the hall. She went to check the room she comes back says ok I'm going to switch your room. I waited 20 more minutes. I decided I didn't want to stay there. One the place was nasty, two I didn't feel safe and three I didn't have all night to wait to get placed in another room. I went downstairs gave the receptionist my key card told her this not gonna work and I left. Leaving out it's people outside young and old loud smoking weed. I'm so glad my reservation was messed up because I would have been mad if I would have lost almost $500 because I was not staying there

I did not stay at this place. Not sure if it is a hotel. This was not a safe environment for me. We got there in the middle of the night, there was no one to check us in. Security did not understand us. Sketchy people were walking around.

They weren't my first pick but they were there iny time of need. I feel like it needs upgraded. The price wasn't bad! I was safe my car wasn't broken into. I made it out the same way I came! The staff were helpful understanding, respectful!

Well I guess for just sleeping in for one night before driving 3 hours home it worked just fine. But we were not provided toilet paper. There was shampoo and conditioner but no hand soaps. Dish soap only in the kitchen. After searching for 20 mins for a TV remote realized there was none and the only channel is what they provide of some romcom. The counters were torn up and dirty. Tables not clean, carpet torn out and door frames covered in brown filth. And the smell was horrible, like cigarettes and old mold. Front desk guy was super nice tho when we arrived at 10:30pm to check in after a concert. But by the time we went back out to ask for toilet paper the desk was closed and everyone was gone. Didn't know if breakfast was provided, woke up late anyways so we went to check at about 10 am before check out and the food room was closed with the carpet pulled up, maybe cleaning?? Like I said good for a quick sleep but definitely wouldn't stay more that that. Only thing clean in the whole place was the bed sheet THANKFULLY!
