Excellent hotel. Check-in was quick and easy, the room was good with complimentary refreshments and the food was lovely.

This is a great little hotel, but I saw on one booking site that it had air conditioning. It does not have a/c so the rooms got a little warm. Other than that, the hotel is in a good location, 15 minute walk to a lot of touristy stuff

This is our favourite place to stay in London. Southwark is a great area with the Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and a lively street scene at the Bankside pubs along the Thames. And the fabulous breakfast is included at The Mad Hatter.

No A/C on property/rooms. They have 2 fans inside. Other than that property is PERFECT!!

We loved our 3 nite stay, rooms were spotless & had everything we needed even complementary water, coffee, biscuits & beer. Hotel in great area colse to train & tube stations & short walk to southbank area on thames buzzin atmosphere for restaurants & bars. We were there for heatwave 34c unfortunately no ac but the fave us fans & dyson air cooler.

What a great homely place to stay, very friendly staff, you have to try the steak and ale pie , it is the best, and the full English breakfast is the best i have had in a hotel, no hesitation in recommending this hotel

Loved the Mad Hatter! Great location in Southwark, close to 2 Tube Stations and walkable to so many places. The folks at the front desk were super friendly and helpful. The pub has great fish & chips and breakfast (included in room rate) was really hearty and delicious and so many choices. They're all very conscious of allergies too and have vegan options too. There is a lift if you need for the upper floors. Will stay here again the next time to London! Caveat: if the weather is hot or muggy, the hotel has no AC. They have Dyson fans which help but if you are sensitive to hot weather, you may want to stay elsewhere.

The Mad Hatter is a great hotel. Really convenient as only 5 mins walk from Blackfriars. Everything has been very well thought out - so many little touches in the room such as nice coffee and chocolate plus all the things you might have forgotten such as toothbrushes, razor. Breakfast was lovely too. The only thing that let it down was that the room was so hot. There were two fans in the room but neither had remote controls with them so we could either have cool and noisy or hot and quiet - neither of which were condusive for a good nights sleep particularly for two menopausal women!

Great location in South Bank which we had never stayed in before. Great staff. Helpful and informative. A nice pub on the ground floor - 10% discount on food/drink if you are staying there.

While our check in process was pleasant and friendly, that was the only highlight. The hotel has an adorable theme and appeared to be at one point, clean and maintained. When heading to our room, you immediately smell an awful smell of fish and notice hanging air freshener disks hanging every few feet. When we entered our room, it too had the same unwelcoming scent. Our room appeared dated, not thoroughly clean and had leaking water on the bathroom floor from a towel warmer that didn't work. The bed was comfortable enough, but the room was so hot and stuffy. We opened the windows which opened ou to an abandoned lot with trash and weeds. I honestly think we could have overlooked all of the above, although we shouldn't need to. The most unsettling part of our visit is when we went down to the hotel restaurant/pub for dinner and cocktails. There were several employees busy decorating for a birthday party in the establishment. We sat ourselves after standing at the entrance for several minutes. We waited another 10-15 minutes at our table, and still no one. We watched another family of four get up from their table and leave. My husband finally went up to the bar and enquired about service. Victoria, the young lady at the bar, appeared put out and very concerned about continuing her party preparations. When my husband didn't hear something she said, she repeated herself loud and slow while rolling her eyes. Done! We took our $300 pounds down the street where we had a wonderful exp

Very nice small hotel over a great pub. Rooms are very clean. Staff was really nice. Hotel is in a great location for visiting all of the London attractions. Very walkable location. Most of the major attractions are less than 2 miles away with many being only a mile. You can easily walk everywhere! Close to the train station.

Very friendly staff. Clean and well thought out rooms. Very little road noise at night even with the window open but the area tends to quiet down at night. Central and easy to get everywhere. Couldn’t ask for more in London.

Very pleased with the Mad Hatter hotel. Loved the character of the building. Room lovely, very clean ,good size bath, comfy bed. Some nice treats left in room complimentary chocolates/ biscuits/ nice coffee and maker/ fresh milk in fridge along with bottled water and a beer. A very nice spacious bar area and lovely breakfast included. Would visit again and recommend to others.

The staff was helpful and pleasant. The bed was comfortable. The only issue was the peeling wallpaper.

Great staff, nice enough hotel, good location - the major complaint is that the bathroom plumbing had multiple issues: no hot water for shower/tub was the biggest problem, but there were leaking pipes around toilet so the floor was constantly wet. The hotel needs to hire a plumber and fix this room. I didn't significantly reduce the overall rating as I am confident they'll fix this for the next guest.

Totally loved it! Spotlessly clean! Comfiest bed ever! Fabulous staff, great service and amazing breakfast! Very close to tube station and walkable to many sights.

The Mad Hatter hotel is situated on an absolute perfect location. Super friendly and helpful staff. Pub and Restaurant with proper English atmosphere. On walking distance of all great London monuments and in a safe area. Clean, nice sized rooms. 10 out of 10 for us.

Great location for tube and attractions. Good breakfast and friendly helpful staff. Only downside is that it is on a busy road junction, so without adequate soundproofing it is a little noisy. Overall very good and I would stay there again, but would request a room at the rear of the Hotel.

Room was small for the price. Windows poorly insulated so lots of noise. Curtains not blackout so light intruded from early morning. Errors on check in meant I was held up for a long time on check out.

Stayed here for a 2 night midweek break with a friend. First of all I just want to say how friendly and helpful all the staff were. The man who checked us in was incredibly helpful and gave us some great suggestions of things to do and see. The room was spacious / twin beds which were comfortable and it has been ages since I stayed in a hotel that provided biscuits with the tea and coffee. It may not seem much but it is a lovely touch! We didn’t partake in the pub / restaurant downstairs as we were out and about but it looked great and had a selection of board games. I live in Kent so on my next stay with my husband we will definitely pop in for a drink. The breakfast was good - I had the eggs Benedict and the eggs were cooked perfectly for me. My only criticism is that the English muffin it was served on hadn’t been toasted. My friend had the smashed avocado on toast with poached egg. She can’t eat runny yolks and although she asked for it to be well done it was still a bit runny. She ate around it and enjoyed what she had. I will definitely stay here again. The location is perfect for exploring Southwark and the hotel is a real gem. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely big rooms. Just the noise of the roads at night was the problem for me as we were opposite the traffic lights. We changed rooms the second night which was much better. Ideal location, close to Waterloo station

Lovely theme. Clean and tidy. Excellent service from friendly staff. Excellent food. Good selection of items in room, coffee, shampoo etc. Rooms not very soundproof. Slept well on very comfy bed. Spacious room. Would definitely stay again. Just a shame about the veiw we had of building site :(

I’d highly recommend this hotel. Fabulous value for money in central london. The staff were polite and very helpful and informative. The room was clean and well appointed with great quality condiments. Breakfast was delicious with a good choice from the buffet and table service menu. Rooms a the back of the hotel away from the road are quieter

Pleasant room and reception staff, nice selection for breakfast. But room was unbearably hot and stuffy, with no air conditioning. Was ok during the day with the window open, but due to traffic outside could not keep windows open so very hot.

Nice comfortable and clean room with complimentary refreshments. A nespresso pod machine with mini fridge containing bottled milk is a nice touch. Bath robes provided with toiletries. The room temperature was easy to controll and I slept well in the comfortable bed. Great breakfast options with buffet style cold food and ability to order hot food from the menu. Small potential improvements - no plug sockets near the bed, bathroom was cold.

The staff were remarkably kind as well as accommodating. The front desk - Sammy - was more than happy to receive and hold onto packages I had delivered to the hotel to pick up at check in. The rooms were spacious. The pub was very enjoyable. My only regret was being there for only one evening.

Our stay was amazing. Check in was the best of any hotel ever. Everyone at the hotel made our stay so much better and more personal. They took care in recommending activities, restaurants, transit, etc We would come back again!

We were delighted with our stay at The Mad Hatter. I had booked our stay for my husband’s birthday. The staff decorated the room with Happy Birthday decorations and left a birthday card on the dressing table which was lovely . Staff are so friendly and helpful. Very comfortable bed and a spacious room. Food is delicious - our breakfast was fabulous and we also had lunch at the restaurant - the best steak pie we’ve ever tasted. I just want to say thank you to everyone at The Mad Hatter for a really wonderful stay. I’m looking forward to returning to see you again in October.

Alice in Wonderland theme is fun. I enjoyed the front desk/bar playlist. Staff were helpful, if sometimes hard to find. Would go back, except they ask you to pre-check in online via some random website. Hotel info should make clear that that is not a requirement.

I had the most wonderful stay that was made even better by the amazing staff. Luke, Alan, Mark, Sammy, and Will were so kind and welcoming. The drinks were perfect—and so was the company that came with it. Thank you for making this trip unforgettable boys!

Turned up at 9.00pm Had confirmation but told I couldn’t stay Insisted I had reservation They called police and police advised I would find another hotel late at night No exclamation was given Other staff were perplexed! What an Aragant rude manager Should be sacked!!

Place was absolutely amazing. This was my first time in London. Staying there was a big part of me enjoying myself. Allen the bar keep is absolutely outstanding, front desk staff Alfredo was also a gem! I hope to come back asap!

What a wonderful experience for my family and I. Beautiful hotel in a non-touristy area (still convenient access to London sights). Pricing was very reasonable, especially with the included full English breakfast. Staff, specifically Sami and Luke were amongst the most friendly, accommodating, and responsive we’ve experienced in our 3-decades of traveling. Hotel has a cool history, an authentic English pub and lovely (but smaller) rooms. NO A/C, which wasn’t an issue as we stayed in early May. Otherwise room was fully appointed, clean, and we appreciated the complimentary beverages in fridge. As for a review left by another traveler, it’s a smaller boutique hotel with (appropriately) smaller staff. Yes, staff may be in Pub doing double duty vs. sitter idle at front desk, but literally 15 feet separates the two areas. We never had more than a 3-4 minute wait. Additionally, the staff goes the extra mile to connect with you, share experiences, and make recommendations to get the most of your stay. My daughter left her iPad in her room safe, but Sami and Luke boxed it up and dropped off at a UPS drop point for shipping back to US. Much appreciated. Would highly recommend the Mad Hatter. Will be our new hotel of choice on next trip to London.

The location of the hotel is just amazing. Super easy to get to major sites and the tube. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The pub downstairs did not disappoint. We had a standard room that was quite cozy. It was clean but could use some sprucing up. My only disappointment is that they should be installing air conditioning units. The room was very hot and super stuffy. The windows did not have screens either. We were aware that there was no air conditioning in the rooms but believe that this is a rather easy thing to do.

Great location. 8 min walk to Waterloo and Blackfriar stations. Excellent amenities, coffee and hot tea in the room. Beds very comfy and great staff. Took the bus to King Cross train station, picked up in front of hotel and 4 stops 10 min.

Great, unique hotel in a very convenient location. Lots of transportation options nearby (buses and a tube stop) make getting to anywhere in central London a breeze. All of the staff were very nice and helpful. The room and bed were spacious and clean. The bathroom (while a little dated) was very clean and very accessible with plenty of grab bars.

Staff was amazing, Luke was especially helpful! Location was awesome. Right at the Blackfriars bridge & walking distance to everything we wanted to do! A reminder that old properties don’t have modern conveniences, like a/c and extra outlets to charge all your devices. Room was a little shabby and hot but the staff did their best to accommodate with an extra fan. All in all, would recommend, maybe just not in July or August. Breakfast buffet and menu were really nice and the refreshments in the room were welcome in light of the heat! Thanks Mad Hatter!

What a great stay we had, staff were all very welcoming, room was good, food and drink were excellent. We ate in there both nights as we really liked the feel. Great value for a central London location. 200yds from Blackfriars station and bridge and about 15 min walk from Covent garden

My son and I spent two nights here. The room was generously sized and and very comfortable. The location was walking distance to two underground stations and to plenty of nearby restaurants/stores. We would definitely return on a future trip.

Chose this hotel because it was close to a work venue, the evening food menu had many things that weren't available and my eggs benedict at breakfast was very disappointing so i can't really recommend the food!

Fantastic location, close to all the major sites and experiences. Feels lovely and cozy as one of the few real victorian buildings in the area. Good food too and lovely helpful staff
