Hotel Centrale Byron

Great hotel located in the middle of the town. Very friendly and helpfully greeting from the reception. Good breakfast

We booked to stay here the night before joining our cruise. The location and reviews looked fantastic, we just wanted somewhere reasonable to lay our heads after travelling from elsewhere in Italy. The location is great, right in the centre of town! Ravenna is lovely, lots of cute bars and restaurants on the doorstep. Pre warning though, it’s no where near the port (my fault lack of research) and taxis are very limited. You need to prebook a taxi or transfer if you intend to meet a ship. Cruise days in Ravenna are busy. The hotel is pretty tired looking but I wasn’t expecting a 5* so would have been more than happy. What I wasn’t prepared for was the absolute stench in our room! I requested a non smoking room, I was told it’s a completely non smoking hotel anyway but when I opened the bedroom door I was horrified by the overwhelming smell of cigarettes. It was literally like someone had just lit up a full pack! We waited a while, I thought maybe another guest had been smoking in their room but the smell just didn’t lift. I don’t even know where it was coming from other than the large faux leather type headboard and walls stank of it. I went down to Reception and explained, I had a little girl with me and the smell was very strong. She said the hotel was full so nothing she could do and packed me off with a can of air freshener that she told me was good for smoke smells. It wasn’t good for smoke smells! It was disgusting and constant. No one came to actually smell it!

Excellent location, helpful staff, and super clean but tiny rooms. No complaints here. I’d stay again in a second if I was ever back in Ravenna for the location and cleanliness alone. Breakfast was also very nice. A near-perfect way to enjoy this gem of a city by the Italian sea.

Perfect location in the heart of it all! Excellent hotel. Fabulous staff. Good breakfast. Not American level air conditioning but this is Europe.
