Asilomar Conference Grounds

Check in was easy and desk staff helpful. The property itself was pretty. Could have used some better lighting on paths at night. Our room was in one of the older buildings- no fan in bathroom which made it very humid in the room. We were there for four nights. Housekeeping came very early after the first night - 8:15am and we were still in the room and asked them to come back a little later. Never saw them again for the rest of the stay. Would have been helpful to have trash taken out. Coffee shop was good, outside seating was nice to gather with our group. Another gathering spot would be nice too.

This facility is a conference center located right on the sand dunes with lots of paths to walk and cycle. Just gorgeous. Quiet and convenient between Carmel and Monterey as well as 17 mile drive

They told me the pool was open. They told me the pool was heated. I wouldn't have rented if they had told me the truth: the pool is freezing, filled with broken branches and leaves, nobody has been swimming there for a long, long time. When I mentioned this at the front desk, they said "Who gave you that information?" as if they were ready to fire that person. "We're sorry", they said, but they weren't sorry enough to let me check out at 1:30 instead of 11.

This rooms are dated but clean and the overall property has a rustic feel. It’s located next to the beach and the common area is large and cozy. They have the fire pits going every night and sell smore kits incase you didn’t bring your own. We love this place and we will definitely return.

Very quiet, dated and rustic, close to the beach, no TV, plenty of parking, wildlife in front of your window, if you like that, it's the place for you

Gorgeous property! The pines are breathtaking, and we loved the short walk to the beach. As others have mentioned, the rooms are “rustic” — dated and run-down in many ways, but clean and functional. Staff was friendly and helpful. The lodge-like reception area is warm and inviting with pool tables, a fireplace, gift and coffee shops. I would definitely stay here again!

A bit old but clean. Located right by the ocean with a convenient access to the boardwalk. No TV in our room but we didn’t really notice because we were tired from exploring and enjoying the location. A great experience overall.

We stayed at the "Whitecaps North" building. Beautiful dunes and beach easily walkable from the rooms. No TVs in the rooms and wifi turned off at night. It's a great place to retreat for peace and quiet without screen time. Check out the social hall for activities like playing pool and reading a kindle next to the fireplace.

The grounds are very nice if you like nature. The rooms are very outdated and I thought I was prepared for that but I felt like I was at summer camp for kids. My mattress had a huge stain that looked like blood but was probably chocolate milk . The screen on one of our windows appeared to had been pried off as it was bent. Our bathroom had the old slanted glass windows that were so filled with cobwebs and pine needles, that we couldn’t close it. The virtual assistant greeted us via text and claimed to be available for assistance. However, two requests that I sent went un answered. We had to seek out answers for meal times and prices for the dining hall. This information was not offered. We ate one meal in the dining hall which felt like a cattle call. We were not informed that we had to pay in another building, so we had to go buy tickets and the. comeback and stand in line again. We then noticed that after 15 minutes of our arrival, tickets weren’t even being required. So like 40 people ate for free and we had to pay. Overall rating a C-. Will not stay there again unless they have new rooms. It appears that some reno is being done so we may consider another stay.

Black mold and cobwebs in our bathroom. Very very basic room. Hairdryer that was there overheated as soon as plugged in and started producing smoke…. Front desk did move us to a better room where there was ‘less’ black mold in bathroom. It’s a shame as the property has a huge potential to be amazing. Daughter would not use shower without shower shoes!

I started to come to Asilomar Conference Grounds about 30 years ago. I’ve come to stay many times for both business and personal purposes. It is really sad to witness this wonderfully located place has been running done literally by the contractor, Aramark! Now the facility is poorly maintained. The room is dirty. The bathroom is not properly cleaned. The grouts are black in the shower tub. The knobs of drawers are missing or loose. The window screens are all broken. The water coming out of the sink faucets is ridiculous low like dripping…I wish the management improve the grounds significantly soon.

No amenities. Strange bathroom. Multiple bugs in the room and in the bed.

We checked in and were given room keys for a room that had not been cleaned- the sheets were all undone and there was trash on the table. We drove back to the reception and told staff, and they were unapologetic. When we got to our new room, it had been serviced by the cleaning staff but not well. There was hair in the shower and the toilet bowl had not been cleaned. There were used towels hanging on a hook in the bathroom. We will not be returning.

The bed sheets felt like straw, but the bed was huge and comfy. There was only a teeny tiny shampoo and conditioner available in the bathroom and there was mold all over the shower curtain and bathroom door. The room was big and comfortable, but really stuffy. Lots of windows, but they looked into the other rooms so we did not feel comfortable having them open.

The beds, bathroom and floors were clean, and water pressure was good; however, the cobwebs and spiders clearly had not been taken care of recently. And the bathtub has mold and just cleaning the surface isn't good enough. This should be cleaned out and re-grouted at the very least. Clearly there is water getting behind the walls to cause this mold and this should be mitigated before it gets worse and causes more structural damages to the structure or gets people sick. Thanks,

Property and rooms are very outdated and not clean at all. Bugs on the towels and very limited amenities. Parking was weird and entering into the property and finding our room was confusing. Would not recommend.

The location was beautiful, quiet and peaceful, the beach is about 8 min away, walking, and the walk to the beach is very nice and safe, many deer encouters. Room doesn't have TV, it was okay since we didn't spend to much time in the room, but it would have been nice if it had a mini fridge, specially if you have a little one that drinks baby bottles of milk. Room could be better maintained, there was spiderwebs on the ceiling and I got bit by a spider while in bed, the carpet was coming off on the division with the bathroom floor and staples where uncovered.

The room we received was the dirtiest hotel room I've stayed it. It reeked of mildew and the bathroom has mold all over the shower. The pillows are toddler size and everything about the room and the building in general signal that this place has not been updated in year, and is not maintained. Notice that the 10 star reviews are all the same. Go to yelp to see the honest reviews and photos. The walls are very thin so the party in the room next door was extremely loud. We tried to contact the front desk, but apparently it's not staffed at night and you have to leave a voice mail. The trails to the beach are nice, but you can access them, and parking, without staying at this dump.

Pros: clean, lots of beds, large room with high ceilings, deck/balcony, pool, large window/sliding door, vintage/MCM vibe. Cons: tub wouldn't drain and maintenence never came, zero TVs, zero AC, heat wouldn't turn off, half-size pillows, saggy mattress, smelled like a nursing home and old furniture.

Only negative is that the walls are pretty thin, so you can hear neighbors around you. Otherwise, great place!

Amazing location and grounds. However, pick your room wisely as some rooms have not been updated for over 20 years. The room is extremely basic but very comfortable bed.

The location is fantastic. Our room was very disappointing and extremely small- in fact the bed was against the wall and the other side of the bed was up to the door so no room for a night stand. We figured we wouldn’t be in our room much anyway.

Asilomar is like glorified camping. No TV. No clock. No coffee maker and no microwave. WIFI and fridge is the extent of the amenities. Breakfast and dinner in the dining hall is expensive. Over 20.00 for breakfast and 46.00 for dinner. This is not the place for the handicapped - lots of walking up hills and stairs. Parking can be a challenge - especially if you are out late. The floors squeak and the water pressure is low. Found a spider above my bed on 2nd night. Having said all that - it's set in the forest and it's got walkways to Asilomar Beach. The lodge is rustic and huge with pool tables, fireplace, gift shop and coffee shop.

The hotel room has the most minimal amenities; bed, toilet and shower. There is no TV, no fridge, no safe box, no microwave and no coffee maker. Although I loved the rustic vibe, I’d still appreciate to keep my drinks cold. Unfortunately we will not be staying here again. Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for an actual hotel room. Aside from that, the staff was amazing, the check in process was quick and the lobby was really nice. Also, the accessibility to the beach was great as well.

I really enjoyed having the fireplace. The drape was partly falling. Needs electronic charging outlets. Having a phone in the room helps if I needed to call 911. Would have been nice to have a TV.

There was a poor internet connection in the room (the only option was at the reception area), no TV, and no coffee machine. The sound isolation is terrible in the room, you can hear your neighbors like they are in your room (especially if they are with kids).

Dirty roaches and most of all the front desk was very bad customer service

The staff was unorganized. It may be that because they have a management company, and people on site who work on the grounds and it is owned be the state that sometimes the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. I was trying to get information about holding a conference and got different answers from different people about basic issues. They need to update their website as well because of confusing information. There’s a number of contradicting things that need to be clarified. When I was checking out, I was going to make another reservation with room requests for an event in September. At the front desk they told me I have to call a toll-free number to make the reservation. When have you ever gone to the front desk and not been able to make a reservation? The conference coordinator took a couple weeks to get back to us so we could get specific information. My business associate and I had to fly up to Asilomar, Rent-A-Car and pay for a room to have a face-to-face meeting with the Conference coordinator in order to get it done properly. That is unnecessary expense. The Conference coordinator was very helpful and efficient. It may be that they’re just revamping it after Covid. I’ve been going there over 20 years and it’s the most spectacular property in California. I hope the state gives them a lot more money for upkeep. I would definitely go again and again, but my Feedback is they need leadership to bring it back to a highly organized organization?

Love the ocean, so did not spend a lot of time in room. Room was clean and warm. Never been there before but now know what to expect. Was not happy with check out experience. Got charged twice upon checking account on my card.

Everything was great. Friendly efficient checkin. Cozy lobby. Great breakfast.

Friendly and professional reception, cafe, gift shop, and housekeeping staff, the lovely Jane bright and chipper at our midnight check-in after travel delays, ocean waves heard from our rooms, boardwalks on the sand dunes down to the beach, comfortable beds and linens, great food in the cafe. A prime property for a reasonable price.

I requested through Expedia messages to Asilomar Conference Grounds , if we could could 2 rooms together and Handicap room for 2 family members that can walk up stairs due to disabilities. When we arrive staff were rude and state they can not accommodate because we did not book thru their website and they have a wedding party to accommodate. We booked the rooms a month in half in advance. Then staff had us waiting for 45 mins for a room. Stating that our rooms were not ready. Mean while they continue to check in people,without any dely. Then we were told rooms will need to separate 1 mile apart, one room upstairs and one room down stairs. With NO HANDICAP accommodations. Then we over hear Staff saying they are going to charge me for everything they can because i gave them a hard time about the rooms. Unprofessional!!! The bottom room has mold under the sink, furniture is dirty, curtains are stained, fixture in the restroom missing wires showing. All bad.

Check in took over 30 minutes. The line was wrapped around the lobby and people kept cutting the line. Once I finally got to the desk, the gal that helped me was quick. The room was like a cabin. It was cute but outdated and there was no television. I wonder if the other rooms are like that too. The pillows were very flat. The grounds were pretty. I was suprised at how large it was. Housekeeping left huge bags of trash just laying around and an animal got into it and spread trash everywhere. That was gross. Overall expensive for the experience but I’m sure it’s because I stayed in the summer.

Property was beautiful. Most of the staff were friendly and very helpful. Except for one man at the front desk. Was not friendly at all and he wasn’t even the one helping me. He just stared at me and the other staff I was speaking to. Than I sent my sons to ask for towels and they said a man was very rude to them. Later in the day while in the lobby they pointed him out and it was the same man.

Tough time with the front desk, some back and forth.

The walking trails leads directly to the ocean and what a view and walk. Very good for your body and mind. Just tremendous!!

Gorgeous location on the ocean in Pacific Grove. Close to many fine restaurants, activities and shopping in Monterey.

The location is unique and fantastic. The buildings are older, but mostly in fine shape. The staff is helpful.

The property is clean, well preserved, and is a historic California Land Mark. It is walkable to the ocean and 17 mile drive. The natural landscape entices native animals like dear to wonder on the property. The vegetation natives to the area gives a warm and natural landscape. The walk paths are easy for any level of hiker.

Asilomar is lovely, historic site, the ocean and beach nearby, hiking on property. The town is nearby with restaurants and shops. Enjoyed the stay.

Great location - older property but I have stayed there before so knew what to expect. Food has gotten pretty pricey in the dining room. Lots of lessons learned for our next trip. Overall good value.

Absolutely beautiful setting. Easy walk to the beach. Dinner not in the dining room was a very limited menu and all pre prepared and no ability to accommodate allergies. Our room was very noisy with some animal running up and down what sounded like inside the walls. The floors are thin so stay upstairs. I will give it a try again as the settign was beautiful.

Skip the cafeteria-style breakfast. It is expensive and poor quality

Great stay at an old YWCA camp. I only wish that they would have complimentary coffee and that the dining hall would be less expensive.
