Sunset Inn Pacific Grove

The Sunset Inn looks like it has recently been refreshed, with new paint and amenities throughout the property. Our unit was sparsely decorated, which means both more floor space and less countertop space (one small round table with two chairs, and two small end tables next to each side of the bed). The fireplace was a nice amenity, but lighting it took two visits to the office as there wasn't a clearly noted control panel. This is a long, narrow property. Parking is a challenge, especially if you arrive after dinner. I ended up parking in a handicap space both nights, and someone else parked in the "no parking" area next to me. They offer a light breakfast, and the coffee/juice machine is available as long as the office is open. They have plenty of maps, a complimentary copy of the local paper, and good local knowledge on restaurants and "things to do" near the hotel. The owners and their staff are polite, kind, and responsive. The office closes at 9:00p, and they frown on making noise outside your bungalow after that. There are chairs and tables outside each bungalow, so you can sit outside and talk while enjoying a glass of wine or some food. Overall, we had a good experience at the Sunset Inn.

Immaculately clean, comfortable, very accommodating... Just a very great experience. They also had bikes for rent and they're close to all the great things to see. Highly highly recommend

The staff were all VERY friendly and the room was clean. Easy walk to tide pools. Loved the deer we saw!! Parking was the only issue as there were not many spots and in the evenings it was hard to park in small areas.

Staff friendliness was great! Facility should expand to have a bigger parking lot. WiFi was also quite intermittent but that's pretty much everywhere in urban areas like Monterey Bay.

We were checked in by such a sweet gentleman who treated us like family upon arrival. He was absolutely helpful with showing us the best places to go and eat. The room was beautiful and impeccable. The price for everything was reasonable if not a steal. I would 100% stay here again in the future. Parking was a bit difficult but nothing that couldn’t be handled.

Excellent Inn, just a short walk from the ocean. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly. Our room had a nice gas fireplace. They can even rent you bicycle. Breakfast was sufficient.

Hotel is very clean, location is okay, affordable for location. The hotel staff are kind especially the evening manager. Not enough parking space if hotel is fully booked, no street parking either. Continental breakfast choices is not impressive but the coffee machine options are great. Dated furnishings but in working order, the heater is loud. I had the misfortune of being in the lower level room and there is absolutely no sound proofing. All the upstairs noise is amplified. Bring ear plugs.

The staff was really friendly and the property was pretty nice overall. Walking distance to the beach and to a few eateries. Parking was a little tight for a larger vehicle but we made it work.

Rishi was very helpful and super polite. Snacks were provided throughout the day in the front office including flavored water, tea and coffee. Parking is limited and that is the only downside. Apart from parking, I would definitely stay here again.

We had a nice time at Sunset Inn. The manager, Rishi, was really nice and gave us a ton of local recommendations when we arrived. The room itself had everything you'd need, even if a bit awkwardly arranged. We got the room with the jetted tub, but the shower (also in the tub) had problems draining so we weren't sure of its cleanliness and didn't end up using it. We found a clump of hair on the shower wall after check-in so that added to our concerns. The property is probably walkable to the beach, and the lighthouse, but not really walkable to any food. You have to drive to get anywhere. Sometimes parking is crowded if you get back later at night (one night it was full but Rishi helped us find a spot). The price was decent compared to the rest of the area but I'm not sure we'd stay there again.

Had an issue with ants, however; the staff responded quickly and solved the problem.

This was the absolute BEST hotel my husband and I have ever stayed at! The staff was friendly and welcoming, and it was clear that they took pride in their work. The room was impeccably clean- not a speck of dust anywhere! Having a functional shower that didn’t flood the bathroom, liquid soap, and an actual bathroom door that closed were nice perks too (as silly as those may sound). My husband and I loved the continental breakfast as well- it was perfect in the mornings! I also loved that the coffee machine was always available for use- we certainly got a lot of use out of it as it was quite chilly when we were visiting the area! My husband and I absolutely plan on staying here again someday, and we recommend it to everyone!

I booked this because it got great reviews but I don't know why it did. It's more like a motel, with minimal services. Breakfast was grab and go from a tiny lobby area starting at 8AM. We are early risers so this was a late start for us and the continental breakfast is the basics. Beds and pillows were hard as a rock andvsince we like softer mattresses, it was hard to sleep. Also the lights outside are on all night so came into our room through the shutters. Tge staff is nice but minimal interaction. I probably wouldn't book it again.

Room was a bit small for two people with large luggage. Had to use the table, which then meant we had no table, and the other was on luggage rack that partially obstructed opening the room door all the way.

The little touches here make a huge difference — the continental breakfast with oatmeal, pastries, granola bars, cereal, fresh fruit, a lovely assortment of teas, and a coffee machine that even dispenses hot cocoa was such a treat. The bed was beyond comfortable, and we loved that the property is just a short drive to Cannery Row and Fisherman’s Wharf, plus only a five-minute walk to a scenic hike and the oceanfront — you could literally smell the sea from our room. We stayed in the Otter Cove room, and it was so cozy with its own fireplace. But the shower deserves its own paragraph — honestly, the BEST hotel shower I’ve ever experienced (and I’ve traveled a lot for work!). It felt like a spa with a rain showerhead above and a handheld with multiple massage features. We didn’t want to get out! Every room has a charming name, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and Rishi and his team are truly the hosts with the most. We can’t wait to come back — this was an exceptional stay from start to finish!

We had a great stay at this inn! From the moment we arrived, the property manager Rishi was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He even let us tour three different queen rooms and pick our favorite. All were clean, but we chose the one upstairs that felt a bit more spacious. The location is excellent—less than a 10-minute walk to the beach and a short drive to the beautiful Lover’s Point Park. The bed was moderately comfortable, just fine for a short stay. The only downside was the lack of soundproofing. The listing on Expedia mentioned soundproof rooms, but that wasn’t really the case. Most mornings, we could hear nearby construction work clearly through the walls, and one night we heard a family next door with young kids. It wasn’t a huge issue, but something to be aware of if you’re a light sleeper. Overall, it was a great value for the price, and we’d happily stay here again!

everything good, except: no WiFi connection although provided hotspot. It is good for forcing you get rid of Electronics device and relax, but consider it when you book the room. Microwave is not working properly, the stop button is broken and you cannot stop it until time countdown ends. Not safe.

The toon was a little cramped with a king bed. The bed was comfortable.

Hotel and location were fantastic. I would absolutely recommend- my only caveat was that we had planned this for our 20th anniversary and had planned to send a bottle of wine up to our room as a surprise for my spouse, but even though it was set up with the front desk, it was never followed through with. Regardless, overall, it was a great place.

Our reservation was changed last minute by the venue so we had to stay at their sister property. They claimed they’d reach back out to “make things right” but never did. After researching, the property they actually had us at, it was significantly cheaper but we ended up having to pay the same price because we prepaid. Overall, will never stay with either locations again. The location we ended up at felt like a cheap motel, definitely not worth the price. My biggest complaint was they told us a manager would be reaching out and they never did so it felt like we were scammed.

I cannot say enough about the incredible service from the owners of the Sunset Inn. I have never stayed somewhere with such attentiveness. As a single, female traveller, I felt very safe and secure. The owners also provided extremely helpful tips on what to do and where to eat. I would HIGHLY recommend!

Excellent, caring staff made our anniversary weekend very special. A comfortable room with a 2-3 min walk to the beach and trails, a few minutes more into delightful, quaint Pacific Grove. Thank you Sunset Inn.

Rishi met us late in the night to check us in and made sure we were comfortable. He also gave us great recommendations about local activities. His service added to the overall cozy atmosphere of the inn. It was a great stay!

Rishi, the manager, was wonderful. Very down to earth and accommodating. Such a pleasant experience. Rooms were comfortable and extremely clean. We will be staying there again.

We showed up for our stay and were informed that Sunset Inn couldn't honor our reservation due to an electrical issue. We were offered a room at a sister property that looked like a lesser property and not very nice. We ended up going elsewhere. We paid in advance and now need to request a refund from Hotels.com. I'm still traveling and haven't had the time to do this. What a pain. The property we ended up at said they would've given us a much better deal if we'd called them directly. Exactly what I'll do next time. I've been a long-time patron of Hotels.com but no longer.

The check in person (male) (PM) was friendly and very hospitable. However, the checkout person (AM) was inconvenienced by our presence, very curt and disrespectful. She rather spend time speaking on the phone talking to her friend, ignoring customers, no eye contact, even when asked a direct question. We felt unwelcomed, as if we were a 'burden'. We will NOT stay at this property again because of her.

Loved our room and the area the hotel was in. Such a short walk to the beach. It was on a quiet street and felt safe to walk in. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

We were initially going to stay in downtown Monterey. So glad we stayed at this Pacific Grove property instead. Area is quiet, woodsy. We saw deer each morning and evening. The walk to the ocean, where you see magnificent sunsets when it's not too cloudy, is only about 3 blocks. Not a lot of restaurants to walk to, but a lot of nature to immerse yourself in. Property is bungalow-style. I was nervous that maybe the rooms were super tiny because there's no square footage included on the site, but the size was generous, maybe 300 sq. feet. We stayed in the Big Sur room, which easily fit 2 queen beds. The fireplace was wonderful. The bathroom, which looked tiny in pictures, was pretty large. There were 4 girls celebrating a weekend out next door. When we closed our windows, we barely heard them, so rooms are pretty well insulated. And I have to mention Richi, the manager. He made us feel so at home. When we mentioned we were there for our anniversary, he sent over a bottle of wine and a fruit and cheese plate. The breakfast is a continental one. They have oatmeal packets, yogurt, fruit, toast, english muffins, donuts, coffee and tea available, which actually filled us up enough to start our excursions without having to look for another breakfast location. If you're into ham and eggs and heavier fare, however, that might not work for you. Really great experience. I would definitely stay at the Sunset Inn again.

Great location. Walk distance to the great tide pool and the historical light house. The owner is very helpful, gave us a lot of good recommendations on restaurants in the town.

Rishi, the property manager goes above and beyond to make sure his guests enjoy their stay. The fireplace was a nice touch, the room was spotless and the bed was comfortable. Walking distance to Asilomar and all the PG trails. Would stay again.

Excellent place to stay in the Pacific Grove area of Monterey. My only complaint is that I wish the continental breakfast started earlier ie 0730 instead of 0800z

Great hotel and great location! It was about a block from the ocean, where you can get on walking trails right on the coast! Rishi, at the office, was kind and helpful with suggestions for food and activities. They offer a simple breakfast (donuts, yogurt, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, juice and coffee). They also offer snacks (granola bars, yogurt, fruit) throughout the day. They have a coffee machine in the lobby that makes a great latte and hot chocolate. The shower was great, nice water pressure. Our room had a small massage chair in it, that was nice after a day of hiking. Like the location. It's in a quiet neighborhood, away from all the busyness and traffic of Monterey.

It’s a very nice hotel for a short stay. The room has a small refrigerator and microwave which is very helpful. The breakfast is continental with no hot options except for bread (toast). You can pick up a few items, including coffee, hot and cold drinks to take back to your room or eat on the outdoor patio. We didn’t have a dresser for clothes but we had a small closet for hanging things. It was conveniently located to Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach (17 mile drive) and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. On site parking was free! The hotel personnel were very accommodating and were happy to go the extra mile if necessary. Overall, we had a very nice and I would recommend it.

This is a quirky little motel that is more unique than a chain hotel. It was mostly in good condition. The breakfast options were limited.

Nice reasonably priced hotel in Pacific Grove. The anager, Rishi is very friendly and accommodationg. Staff was very friendly too. Lobby very small and limited continental breakfast. Much better places in tiwn to eat if you have the time.

Nice stay at the Sunset Inn. Very clean. Friendly staff. Room was nicely updated and maintained. The common areas are super clean and very maintained. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the free breakfast, would have liked to see better fruit selection like cut melon and a pastry or coffee cake instead of donuts. Overall, great place and we will definitely be back!!
