The Palo Alto Inn

The Palo Alto Inn was clean and well-kept. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe at the inn and in the area. There were no dining options at the Palo Alto Inn, but there were several options within easy walking distance. Since I was without a car during my stay, that was very important to me. I walked south most of the time to San Antonio Center , approximately 1/2 mile away, where there are several restaurants, Safeway, Walmart, Trader Joes and Target. From the Walmart on Showers Drive (about .8 mile away), there is a free Mountain View Shuttle that has two routes - I took the Red route from Walmart to Castro Street (downtown) and the Grey route to get back to Walmart from downtown. Several of the hotels close to the Palo Alto Inn have restaurants and I found that most of them had pretty good food. I enjoyed Dinah's Poolside Restaurant and Hobees (great blueberry coffee cake). The management and staff of the inn were all friendly and helpful. And there are free snacks, water and sodas in the office. One thing to note: the website listed guest laundry, but I didn't see any laundry facilities. When I asked at the desk, I was told they don't have laundry available anymore and they suggested a laundromat north of the inn.

Older motel ,vert short toilet, no over head lighting, no swimming pool/spa, very noisy from traffic and emergency vehicles. The cleaning ladies were very nice and did a great job though. We left early because of family being discharged from Stanford Hospital and had to demand a refund when we had the check out early insurance !!!

extremely clean and kept up very well. Only problems were the parking (hard to get in/out of parking space safely), the mattress seemed to be wrapped in something that made a noise like wadding up plastic shopping bags everytime you turned over.

The place was nice and the patio area was very relaxing. Will be staying again

The front desk person is very friendly. Parking is free. We stayed for one night and enjoyed it.

Good location, ease of check-in and check-out, option for service daily, clean and comfortable room at a good price. Really enjoyed the zen garden to chill in the afternoons.

There is not an elevator so request the first floor of you have someone in your party that is in a wheel chair or has mobility issues.

Great customer service! Our room was very nice and clean. Area was nice, easy parking, and they had a nice outside space to relax and hang out. I would definitely stay here again.

The Palo Alto Inn has amazing greenery within the small sized property. The parking spaces are really close together- it was difficult to park sometimes. There were 2 nights of loud groups, one at 12:40am and one at 2:30am. Other than that, it was a pleasant experience. I would recommend this motel to anyone. It was very clean.

I've stayed at great places such as The Grand Hyatt and The Plaza in NYC. This time my budget was not that. The location is central to everything in the area. The people are nice, as are the rooms. I didn't have a problem with any noise being on the bottom floor. If there was any issue, the parking's a bit tight. If I need to stay in the area again and my budget is similar, I'll stay there.

We stayed at the Palo Alto Inn this past weekend because we had tickets to a show at the Shoreline. The room was very clean and the inn is very quiet. The little outdoor space is very charming! Will definitely return.

At first glance, this property seems well-maintained and cared for by helpful staff. After check-in I used the restroom and asked for help on using the air conditioner. Staff was helpful and prompt. After having dinner and a drive I returned to the motel for the night. Upon further inspection of the room, I found dirty footprints in the otherwise gleaming tub, dried spittle on a pillowcase in a perfectly made bed, but to top it all off, a little black curly hair was on the back of another precariously placed pillow. I did pack up and leave. Asking for a refund was no problem. The owner was happy to oblige my request without asking for a reason. It was a happy coincidence since I didn’t want to explain, yet when he finally did ask, he was offended when i told him the room wasn’t clean. He pointed to his many awards for customer service and touted his many happy customers and esteem for such service. At this point he was upset, but I just wanted to leave. Unfortunately, he offered me a free upgrade to a suite, but I didn’t want to see another room which he felt was clean—but may not have been in actuality. He seemed offended that I wasn’t interested in the upgrade. I just wanted to rest in a clean room. I travel to Palo Alto quite often to visit Stanford. It’s my standard procedure to put my bags into the tub and inspect the bed carefully before getting into it for sleep. I don’t think my standards for cleanliness are too stringent.

Well run, super clean and friendly staff.

My room was not clean. Finger prints on the walls, that sort of thing. Bummer because it’s a decent motel and a good value.

This place had high reviews, which is why I considered it. It was exactly as the reviews said—clean, quiet, comfortable, and budget-friendly. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a quiet and clean place to stay. I was by myself and it was a great size and space. Also, easy check-in and out.

Check-in was easy and polite.The room was absolutely spotless and even had little vases of fresh flowers around. Everything someone might need or have forgotten was available (even a packet of toothpaste and a brush). This is the first review I have ever bothered to give a hotel but, though it is a small place, it was really special. I'll be back.

I love this property! Considering the costs in California, this is definitely a budget friendly place. The staff is absolutely wonderful and kind! You can definitely tell that this is an older place but it’s well kept and most rooms are redone! The only thing I would say is that my room was one that had not had the ceiling redone and I could hear the people above me. But it was still an overall great experience and I would stay there again!!! Thank you for your hospitality while I spent time in Palo Alto! ♥️

The inn is nice and a great price and I'd love to stay again except the beds were awful. So hard and uncomfortable and I barely slept because I'd wake up in pain and have to move around to get "comfortable" again only to wake up in pain a few hours later. My mom also slept bad due to the mattress. If they changed out the mattresses to something with a pillowtop we'd love to stay here again.

We had a great night. Bed was comfy, room was small, but updated. I loved not having carpet. Very cute patio area. Already booked my next Stanford trip to stay here.

Very disappointed. Probably smallest room I’ve ever been in. Our window actually overlooked the DUMP. That was our view. The tiny communal area with chairs and a couch was very close to the road and traffic. Noisy.The check-in desk area was the size of a bathroom…that tiny. All equipment in our room was ancient. The floors and bed in our room squeaked and I could hear them squeak in the adjacent room which tells you how thin the walls were. Yukkk. Never stay here.

Pretty clean , nothing spectacular. Pretty uncomfortable bed but good for price & proximity for medical purposes

The Hotel was nice, very clean. Check in was super easy the clerk was very friendly. The one thing that will keep me from staying there again is the bed...It was just...BAD. So uncomfortable. The mattress was similar to a sofa bed. I would stay again but they need more comfortable beds.

Quiet and Well appointed, nice bath and shower. Nice big flat screen TV and guide. Fridge a little small and bed frame too large for mattress.

Missed seeing fresh flowers in a small vase in the room upon check-in. Room 113 visibly smaller than other rooms we've stayed in before at this same inn. Some sliding and squeaking noise from upper level room.

Being on the ground floor this time, we were aware throughout the night of people walking in the room above us.

I emailed through the Hotels.com app to let them know I would be flying in late. I received a kind acknowledgement. Unfortunately when I looked at my phone when I landed, I had several emails and voicemails notifying my that they tried my credit card and it declined so therefore they could give away my room. Mark was rude and condescending when I tried to remind him that I would be there shortly and according to the app, I would Pay at Property. Additionally when I asked him to rerun the card, he was annoyed. But a funny thing happened - my card went through just fine. No apology. Nothing. The property is cute. the bathroom smelled of mildew. The location is good. The clocks in the room were all different times. Old coffee maker. Just beware of the poor customer service from him.

When we arrived at 11pm after a long flight we were told by the hotel that Expedia had double booked by accident and that they didnt have room for us. Upon calling Expedia, they said the hotel had cancelled the reservation for “room maintenance”. Neither Expedia or the hotel let us know our reservation had been cancelled, leaving us scrambling for a place to sleep at midnight in a foreign city. Expedia then told me that when booking a hotel next time I should contact the hotel separately to make sure the reservation was not cancelled (which in my mind then renders Expedia obsolete, as I could simply book directly with the hotel if I have to contact them about the reservation anyways). Don’t know who to believe here, but in any case I believe both Expedia and the hotel to be at fault for not notifying us about the cancellation… and now you have the audacity to ask for my review of my “stay” at this hotel…..

Excellent service

Stayed there a couple of times, really enjoyed it. Even though the property is a bit old, you can tell it is very well maintained and cleaned. The staff is friendly and professional.

Fantastic place to stay the gentleman at the front dest Bhagi was so nice. He was very helpful.

Great experience, the staff went beyond expectations to accommodate me. My son was in the hospital and I wasn’t sure if I would be staying another night. They called me to let me know that they were booked and again when they had a cancellation and saved me the room even though I couldn’t confirm that I would be staying again.

Overall, from arrival to check out I was very pleased with the service and stay. I worked early morning so I needed peace and quiet, and got just that! The parking was very easy and I felt safe. The room was very clean, and had everything I needed. The customer service and friendliness of the workers was another game changer. Thank you Palo Alto Inn, I will definitely be staying again soon.

We liked the property and all of the amenities in the room. Our one issue was with traffic noise. We were at the front of the property, so I guess that contributed to the problem.

This was a very pleasant motel to stay in. I liked the area and could find shopping nearby. It was close to Stanford University which was the purpose of my visit to the community.

Updated or remodeled rooms were a plus and met my expectations. My mother has a surgical procedure scheduled for the morning and I won’t put her in just any place. Very clean rooms and bathroom and it’s amenities were just right. 15 minutes from the hospital and priced just right. Dining was just a few blocks away as well.

Graduation weekend at Stanford. The Palo Alto Inn is just the perfect location close to the school. As soon as you drive in you can see that the area is clean and nicely decorated. The customer services was wonderful, the young man thank us for picking them and let us know they had complimentary snacks and water. The room was was clean, organized and quiet. We have found our second home when visiting Palo Alto.

Clean quiet place to stay. We had appointments at Children’s hospital and this was about a 10 minute drive. Price was good for the area. Plenty of towels and pillows but beds were a little too hard for me.

Great value, responsive staff. Bonus is that a great breakfast is only 100 yards away at Hobee's.

Was very upset at the false advertising of a continental breakfast. I purposely select hotels around that. I was disappointed to find out when I got to the hotel that there was no continental breakfast. I personally feel I should have been reimbursed some of my funds because of this.

Ck in was streamlined, efficient , friendly and pleasant. No breakfast but there was free beverages and packaged snacks. There were several minor repairs that had not been done. Would go back again but first impression did not last through out stay.

This is an old motel that has been nicely updated. The location was convenient, the staff was friendly, the room was pleasant and had everything I needed. The only suggestion I would make is for them to add some weather stripping/insulation to the exterior door. It would help reduce the draft and reduce the noise from the street. The fresh flowers were a nice touch as well as some free bottled water, coffee, tea and sodas. I felt it was a good value for the area.

This place is what hospitality should be. The room was clean, the amenities were aplenty, the service was excellent, and they even threw in some free sodas and snacks. That made my experience way better than when I stayed at a 5-star hotel.
