Renaissance Asheville Downtown Hotel

Not as nice as other renaissance hotels but good enough. Elevators were horribly slow, not sure if they were being worked on. This spot doesn’t use Aveda which I would expect. Very walkable to downtown.

Great place in the heart of Asheville, the rooms and especially the bathrooms where small. The pool and hot tub where not working. Breakfast was great!

We used restaurant more than expected. B’fast choices were very good—menu or buffet options. Dinner options oriented toward salads and sandwiches with limited entree choices. No room service offered was a minus; you could do your own takeout and bring it up to your room.

Chill place. No issues. Dog friendly and easy access to downtown restaurants.

This hotel was very convenient to the downtown area. The room was clean and up to date. The staff was nice and polite. They seemed to only have two of the four elevators running. As a result there were long waits for the elevators. Also the dining room seemed to be open only for breakfast. And there was a long line.

This hotel was great, but the only I didn't like is no microwaves in their rooms, You have to walk all the way to the basement every time you want use the microwave what a inconvenience,

Good location. Pool was closed since May. No heads up provided or I would have gone elsewhere. Rooms were not adjoining or even next to each other. My room smelled like a wet mop. Adam from maintenance came up, agreed it smelled weird, but couldn't do anything about it. He was great, (not his fault). Hotel couldn't change our rooms to another floor or move me to a room on the same floor. Refrigerator was warm when we checked in. Had to crank it up. It should be cold when you check in.

We were disappointed that the pool is closed for renovations. It did not state that on the website when booking the room.

Honestly I read the reviews prior and was excited. I found the $25 per night fee for parking was excessive. If I am renting a room I expect parking to be included. Maybe increase your room price instead of adding extra charges. I booked a city view my room really was just overlooking their parking lot. We had to leave early Sunday morning and was told there was no coffee until 7:00 am. Staff told us to use the in room coffee machines which I find gross. Most hotels offer coffee as early as 5 or 6 am. I booked this hotel because they had a restaurant. However, the dinner menu is really a lunch menu...sandwiches. We were too tired to go outside the hotel. Food was decent though but was hoping for a real dinner menu. Overall not the quality I was hoping for. Hope they do better in the future. Would not be my choice for a hotel when in Asheville again.

The pool and hot tub is extremely nice— much larger than a typical hotel pool. Great location!

We took our car out the first day and I wish we hadn’t. We ended up walking literally every else we wanted for the weekend. Our room was perfect for what we needed but definitely a bit smaller than a lot of other hotels I’ve stayed at.

Clean, great location, friendly staff. We would recommend and plan on returning.

Bathroom was not clean. Sink cold water faucet leaked. Toilet looked like it did not flush but it is just stained - should be exchanged out. Long black hairs in the tub. Coffee cups were not replaced at all.

Clean Room, Staff

The room itself was good at first glance. But then we started noticing wet spots on the carpet. One of our bags took in the moisture, so some of our clothes were smelly and the ones at the bottom, a little damp .It was the air conditioner unit. We put towels down and Told the lobby about this. Everyone I had encountered in the lobby was amazing except for the guy I dealt with with this. He was so extremely rude and offered literally coins so we could dry our clothes in the dryers. then when we came back from day out, the towels were still there, so not sure if they sent maintenance The towels were disgusting orange color from whatever was in the carpet. and if you want some ice cream on the cake. We did not have an iron in the room, the fridge didn’t work, the hairdryer would only stayed off for 30 minutes and the coffee pot on pff botton did not work.

Our hotel room smelled musty and was completely damp by the window. This could be from all the rain from the week. Not a hugely big deal, but the sheets had self tanner (???) on them as well as the pillows and towels. I wasn’t impressed the cleanliness. The staff was very friendly, the hotel room had beautiful views and it’s very walkable to amenities.

Was not very clean. It looked like someone had stuck pubic hair to the ceiling above the shower. The USB port in my lamp didn’t work but the hotel switched it out for me. The floor lamp didn’t work either but I didn’t feel like contacting the front desk a second time. Showtime didn’t work in the room. Very limited tv channels. There was no desk in the room either. The pillows were very flat. Shower liner didn’t look very clean.

I did not sleep because I was so grossed out by the lack of cleanliness. Upon arrival, the room smelled strongly like feet. When I showered this morning, there was a used wash cloth with pubic hair in the shower, leading me to believe that the room had not been cleaned after the last guest. Overall, very uncomfortable night.

Staff is friendly and helpful. Lobby and restaurant are beautiful, but the room was not. Before reading below, please understand that I am not a self-appointed hotel critic and I did not enter this room with the intent to find every little flaw it had; this stuff was just apparent and, for the price, offended me enough to write this review. This building has been a hotel for a long time, and it shows in the room we had. Not sure how long this property has been with Marriott, but the room was incongruent with what the Renaissance brand purports to be. What appeared to be new(ish): headboards and mattresses, mirrors, lamps, seating, wallpaper on headboard wall, wallpaper on toilet wall, tile on floor/shower walls. What appeared to be old, and not in a fun vintage way: furniture had stains and water damage, and the appearance and tacky surface of old painted furniture; curtains were dingy at the top like they hadn’t been removed for cleaning in a long time; wallpaper not mentioned above appeared original and was yellowed in hard to clean places; tub had a weird, lumpy, uneven bottom; old, yellowed electrical/telecom outlets remained; carpet at baseboards had heavy dust. The carpet itself was of indeterminate age and cleanliness: ugly enough to be old; dark enough to hide dirt and stains. Ultimately, it functioned just fine as a room. Understanding I paid for location here, for this price, the room should still be something more than we got. Won’t stay here again.

Room had no desk or work surface. Had to use an ironing board.

Pretty solid place, only downside is the walls are paper thin. Doesn't work well when bad parents let their bad kids scream and slam stuff early in the morning. Also, the toilets would randomly flush, it was odd.

The room itself was horrible. Condensation from the window saturated the floor and I could see actual water dripping onto the floor. I told the front about it and they did not care and were dismissive. The bed dipped and was concave resulting in the worst back pain imaginable. Told the front desk and again, they did not care at all. Wouldn’t even talk to me about it until “maintenance” looked at it. The television in the room was discolored on the screen in the right side. All in all, great location but would not stay at this hotel ever again. It was over $300 a night and the room was horrible. A local AirBnB would have hands down been a better deal

It was really nice visiting such a cute and friendly town! The hotel is in a perfect location but it needs a big renovation especially rooms and bathrooms!

Clean room, great service - A/C unit was really loud... otherwise GRAET stay!!

This hotel is in a great location and you can walk downtown if you'd like. The views are wonderful. We could see the mountains and the Grove Park Inn from our 11th floor window. You can they remodeled an older property because of some holdovers like an older toilet, slanting floors, etc. One elevator was down, leading to waits. But overall, a really good stay for the price. Note, you will pay for parking at this property. $30 to valet, $25 to self park. Take the breakfast if it is offered to you with your stay at a discount! It was very good and reasonable if you add it on when booking. We only paid $10.

We liked its proximity to downtown, and the bed was very comfortable. The HVAC unit in the room was on the border of being too noisy, and the bar was lacking basic mixtures for cocktails.

The best staff ever. Made reservation for one night, at check in while showing my ID, I sais it’s my birthday, immediately they started doing their magic and I got complimentary champagne glasses for my and husband, even my daughter got a Shirley Temple. I didn’t know that my husband previously called to deliver flowers to out room, Sandy handled everything. She is a sweetheart. My 40ths were great and I’m fan of the Asheville crew.

Great location! Close to everything downtown has to offer. Friendly staff, bartenders were great! Highly recommend this hotel. Only note was housekeeping would knock in the morning even though we had “do not disturb sign”. It happened 3 out of our five nights. Other than that everything was superb!

All the staff here seemed completely put upon to do their jobs. The front desk people were often not around, the person who checked me in was curt, just handed my keys, and didn't greet. I went to the restaurant a couple of times--each time it was just one person working who rarely came to the table. They all seemed annoyed to be working. My hotel room had stuffing coming out of the chair. There is no printing/business station, so if you need to print you have to email it to the front desk and wait for them to print, which is inconvenient. Parking is 25 a day but there is a lot nearby where you can park free on weekends. For the money, this hotel isn't worth it, to be honest.

Way too old. Really need to be renovated. Waiting line at the front desk is way too long and most of the time there is no staff there at all. Really not up to the standard of a downtown Asheville hotel.

Paying to park in their lot was an unwelcomed surprise. Waiting for the desk manager to stop complaining to staff about other guests while I stood there waiting for help was terrible. Customer service was lacking and bad attitudes are not ok for what I paid to stay.

Everything was great except the temperature in the room. It was overly hot and the thermostat didn’t seem to work. And this is when it was about 35 degrees outside at night. Location was fantastic.

Convenient downtown location.

Great hotel stay with friendly helpful staff and clean, comfortable and quiet rooms. And it’s walkable to the main streets of downtown Asheville which makes it an ideal hotel to stay at. It’s location can’t be beat.

Terrific location...needs an update

This was a return trip for us exactly one year from our first stay. Booked for the location because we were in town for Billy Strings weekend! Walkable to everything including the concert venue. We were worried about how things would be considering the enormous damage to the RAD from Helene but the hotel was in great shape. A few suites were blocked off due to damage but all other amenities were available. The Writer’s Bistro was wonderful as usual. Thanks for hosting us and we’ll see you next time Billy is in town.

Hotel restaurant is horrible for dinner, breakfast was decent. The bed we slept in was horrendous.

Loved it and highly recommend. The restaurant on the main floor has a fantastic buffet breakfast and made to order omelettes.

The representative when i checked in was very nice. The waittress for breakfast was sweet as can be. The food nothing to write home about. No non pork options. Runny eggs and funny tasting hashbrowns. Mybed seemed to be broke on one side. If you sat on the side it was like squating to stand up. The ac was not keeping the room cool. The tub did not drain. I was told could do late checkout and pay an extra 10.00 per hour after 12 till 4pm. Worked great since my daughter had a track meet starting at 4. I said i would do that in the am in case anything changed. Went to do that and was told no. Not possible. Explained i was told it would not be an issue and the lady was just like sorry not happening. Overall not a normal experience from this brand. Must just be the area
