Nicely decorated, clean, and comfortable rooms. The rooftop pool and fitness center are very nice. Friendly staff. Perfectly located in the center of downtown. The riverwalk is right outside the hotel. All the best restaurants and attractions are walking distance from the hotel. It’s been a real treat staying here. Well worth it, and would definitely stay here again.

Location location location! This hotel has everything I could ask for…walking distance to anything I needed, a spacious suite that gave me plenty of work space (as part of my stay I had to work), fast check in, and there was also a nice pool/spa on the rooftop for downtime! I 100% Will return!

My wife, 15 month son, and I stayed 4 nights. Staff was friendly, room was spacious and comfortable, and the location on the Riverwalk was great! Only complaint was the restaurant/bar was closed 3 of the 4 nights for unexplained reasons. Only parking option was through the valet service for $54ish/day. Wasn’t super happy that was the only option; however, the valet staff was quick and friendly.

Clean, quiet, roomy, comfortable bed, exceptional service, nice pool and fitness center, loved the bar and restaurant, and had an amazing view (Even when we did not choose a room with a view). Only complaint was the $57 valet each night - but we simply parked across the street for $30 and walked everywhere we needed to go instead - you are truly within walking distance of everything!

Location was good! Person checking us in wasn’t very friendly. Wasn’t able to get into room, door needed a new battery. The engineer was taking too long to get there to replace the battery so they upgraded us to a suite which was nice. During the night the smoke alarm started chirping. We fiddled with it until it stopped. The tv in the area with the couch didn’t work. Seemed like the hotel was in need of maintenance. The ice machine on our floor was out of order but was running marking a lot of noise.

The room was wonderful. Check in and out was a breeze. The rooftop pool was delightful in the evenings. The design allowed a cool breeze inside the pool area which was a welcomed respite from the days heat. I think our only disappointment was that the two times that we endeavored to dine at the Ambler. The first night, something was wrong with the kitchen and the restaurant was closed. The next night we were wanting to dine later in the evening and at 9:45 was told that it was too late before closing time (10:00) to be served. I found that to be a less than stellar offering of good customer service for hotel guests. Other than the restaurant experience, we found our stay lovely.

The Good. •The lobby and hotel in general looks modern and elegant. •Easy access from the lobby directly out to the waterway. •Short walk away from one of my favorite restaurants (salt grass). •At the check in counter we were greeted by a gentleman that was friendly and helpful. • The room was clean and so was the shower/ restroom. The bad. •The first room they set us up with 713, Smelled like mold. When I looked at the ac vents in both the room and living room area. You could visibly see black mold spots. The smell was very present and hard to ignore. When I went down to the check in counter. They offered me to check out another room 313 which smelled just about the same. They offered us another room I believe it was 701 and we could tell a significant difference in smell. The ac vents still had mold spots but the room wasn’t lingering with smell of mold. Luckily our stay was only for night as this was a spontaneous weekend trip from Houston to San Antonio. • Paying for valet stinks but all of the hotels in the downtown area charge for it so if you really want the views, convenience, experience of staying downtown. Prepare to pay $53

This hotel miss the mark! The location was great and on the surface everything looked good. The hotel bar/ restaurant was just okay at best. The rooms were very noisy, it sounded like a marching band or fireworks. There was no light on the nightstand, so no reading in bed and you had to turn off the light and walk to your bed in the dark. The plumbing was awful, it could 4 flushes to just get toilet paper down. The shower would just stop and start again. The cleaning crew must of been blind. I spilled coffee on the nightstand, I cleaned it up the best I could but some splashed on the sheets while moving the glass top. I asked for a clean up and went to my conference. When I returned the beds were made but the nightstand was still wet. As we went to bed we realized that they just made the bed, and did not changed the coffee stained sheets. Not acceptable!

I booked a 2 night stay for my mom’s birthday this past weekend. I was slightly disappointed about the condition of the room for the price I paid. ~$600 The bathroom seemed like it was falling apart. Soap dispenser falling off the wall, the hook for the towel holder was also coming apart causing the towel to keep falling on the floor. It wasn’t completely horrible but wish I could’ve given my mom a nicer experience for her birthday.

This hotel is not worth the money spent. Customer service is the worst and slowest. The rooms are nice, but our room was very dirty. There were nasty stains on the carpets and the restroom floors. I had to clean the bathroom Flores. The bathtub grout and seals were moldy, and the shower curtain was almost falling. They sent someone to do the cleaning again, but all the issues remained the same. They just do superficial cleaning. Some of the walls and furniture was also damaged in the room. Then we tried to get a drink at the restaurant and even though there was no one they made us wait so long. There was a confusion between waiters and they literally argued right in front of us . There was no ice in the ice machines at several of the floors. I had to travel to three different floors to find ice. The pool water was very cloudy, and I wouldn’t risk swimming in dirty water. All in all, not the best experience:((

Great stay! I inspect everythingggggg and I’m a super germaphobe. I felt comfortable walking around barefoot in the room so that says a lot! Very clean, spacious. I wish the double beds were queen and not full size but that’s okay. I also found a pack of cigarettes in the couch from possibly a previous guest but I was willing to overlook it because everything else was very positive. I would definitely stay here again!

The Contessa Hotel I looked forward to staying at this property. We tried out the double bed suite. Nice space with a living room when you walk in the door with the bedroom in the back. Nice sheets, comfortable beds. Very close to the Riverwalk. The issue with this space is the elevators are right across the hall. I was told this type of room is always in that location on each floor. You hear the elevators like whistle all the time. Not only in the living room but also the bedroom. Our toilet was leaking and filling every 10 minutes. The shower / tub curtain was hung way too low for how long it was, so it was very bunched up in the tub. The toilet paper holder covers anchored in to the wall were loose and unattached. The toilet was leaking and filling up every 10 minutes. Fairly low showerhead. Couldn't get my hair wet without bending at 6’2. The room was definitely dated and needs an update. Wifi speed 16 down and 10 up

The stay was wonderful overall! Super comfortable mattress and pillows, although it felt slightly smaller than a double sized bed. The room was very large and comfortable but could use more lighting options when needed. The only complaint would be the bathtub as the curtain didn't fully stop the water from going outside due to the curve of the bar and the tub itself was flaking/chipped in a few sections.

The hotel is nice and the beds and pillows are excellent quality. Our room (deluxe king suite) was very comfortable. However, getting our car to/from the valet service was a consistent issue. Dropping off the vehicle was a bit of a headache in that we’d inevitably have to wait in the street for cars to be cleared from the drop off area. That wasn’t so bad, but getting our vehicle from the valet never took less than 30 minutes, despite the valet advising us it would take 10. When we checked out on Saturday morning, we waited 45 minutes for our vehicle and it really did not seem that busy. The valets were very nice and were clearly working hard, so it seemed like a management issue. They really need to reevaluate their system and come up with a new plan. Or at least set realistic expectations for their guests so we can plan accordingly.

The hotel is nice and clean. The staff was lacking in hospitality. Watch out for the bar they overcharged us I’m guessing after reading reviews intentionally. Added 40.00 worth of wine that we didn’t order or consume. Front desk staff seemed bothered to help and as of today (24 hours later) it’s still not been credited to my bank card. Crooks.

⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ – Beautiful setting, but disappointing service The hotel itself is a nice place with a great river view, but the service fell far below expectations. The spa was extremely overpriced for the quality we received—you could honestly get better service at a mall. The front desk was the biggest reason we will not return. Not a single staff member smiled, and on two separate occasions we requested extra blankets and bottled water, neither of which were ever delivered. The bar was also subpar. The bartenders didn’t seem to know their liquor selection and were not attentive at all. What saved our stay was the room’s river view and the Thanksgiving feast—both were excellent. The meal was delicious, and the staff working the event were friendly and provided great service. We will definitely come back for the food, but not for the hotel stay.

My friend and I checked in for one night while traveling. The hotel was great, very clean, quiet, and a really great location. The river walk is right outside and a CVS is a short walk across the street. The staff was super friendly and accommodating, the front desk, not so much. No one told me how to use the elevator, only learned that from a staff member explaining it to another guest. You have to use your room card FYI. I booked my reservation with hotels.com and owed a small amount when I checked in but there are two charges that don’t add up. I have tried calling the hotel but they don’t answer the phone or they send you to the reservation department and they can’t help you with issues going on at the hotel.

The hotel is outstanding. The check in staff wasn’t at all friendly - did not give us the wi-fi - did not welcome us or thank us for staying at their hotel. Kind of disappointing when you’re spending almost $400 for a room with a view of the river walk - $57 parking is outrageous This was a special occasion - we didn’t feel special.

Loved my experience; shout out to Abbas who worked the counter and upon arrival took care of my wife and I with not only check in but a complimentary Champagne and strawberries. Love the elevator view and roof top pool. My three concerns for why I have 3 stars was the limited restaurant options, poor plumbing in the rooms and that it took 2 months for me to receive my deposit back. Someone from the hotel promised to call me back but I never received a call. Awesome view so it made up for the bad plumbing.

This is our second time staying. We enjoy the location which is on the river walk but is far enough away from the central area that is busy. More quiet by hotel contessa. The valet and bell hops are so polite and maje sure you are prepared and get the help you need.

Had a great experience at Hotel Contessa. Great location on a quiet corner of the river. The rooms were very spacious. Love that it was a suite with the bedroom separate the hotel lobby had a great bar, but extremely loud music plays late Ambler restaurant was delicious for dinner and breakfast.

The Hotel Contessa has one prime benefit - location. It is situated on the River Walk which is ideal. The restaurant / bar area was quite nice - albeit was closed early on the evening we stayed. Unfortunately we do think the hotel is tired, in particular, the room was tired and in need of some renovations to modernise it somewhat. Specifically, the bathroom is very 'Early 2000's' style and it shows, the base of the toilet was loose, the shower is located in the tub with a shower curtain and a 'beige' bathtub which feels old and tired. The carpet in the room had some staining and gave a general sense of being unclean. We appreciate the style of the hotel does imply the decor would not be particularly modern, however we feel there is a difference between a room being 'styled' in a particular way, compared with it just being dated. There is no parking available other than Valet which was quite pricey, there is an open lot directly across the street which we utilised instead.

Love the location, but the upgrade to a Riverview put us above the tree tops so we didn't get to see the river. There was some issues with the room, but we were only there two nights and gone a lot. Beds were very comfy. The pool area was kind of messy and crowded. Seems smaller than I remember.

We had such a wonderful stay at Hotel Contessa in San Antonio! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and comfortable. The location right on the River Walk was one of our favorite things—it was so nice being able to walk outside and immediately enjoy the restaurants, shops, and beautiful scenery.
