La Cantera Resort & Spa

The parking situation at La Cantera resort is HORRIBLE! Self-parking is overcrowded, meaning you drive around for 30 minutes waiting for someone to leave (and it appeared to be employees) and then you will walk uphill for a while before you ever reach the resort. If you valet, you will pay a premium (but for what), my 1st night there the "system" was down and the next day they had to "find" my car. At checkout I waited 23 minutes for them to get my car and then I had to walk to my car, they couldn't even pull it up. Needless to say La Cantera did not offer a reduction-disappointing.

Loved the property and pool The Signature Restaurant was delicious The shuttle driver was the highlight. He made the trips around the property and to Fiesta Texas so much fun.

Great property. The Signature restaurant is excellent. The golf is great. One problem - the parking. They now charge about $28/day for self-parking. That's on top of the room rate and the "Resort Fee". I can't stand that game - just a way to try and hide what they are really charging. Just tell me what you are charging for your room and include everything. Don't try to fool me by quoting one price and then charging another. To make matters worse, the parking system works poorly. I was initially charged an hourly fee, rather than a daily fee. The hourly fee would be about $230 dollars a day. While the front desk fixed the improper charge, it took about 20 minutes (with me standing at the front desk) for them to do so. I don't go on vacation to spend that amount of time for something I don't think they should charge for in the first place. Someone should rethink this new, in my view bogus, charge. Again, put it all in the room charge so that I know what I'm spending.

First time staying here and I am not a fan. First off, the staff is super friendly and helpful, except for one instance. I have no problems with the people. The resort itself does not support its own amenities. They have a pool that stays open until midnight but the bars close by 10pm, other bars on the property close earlier. They have great seating with firepits, except getting a firepit lit is almost impossible. We asked an employee and he made it clear that maintenance had to light the pit and it would be a long time. Why? Whats the point? Room service food is very generic. Arcade claw machines are super stingy, like that’s what they make their money on. Self parking was full, so I had to use Valet and get upcharged. They definitely oversold day passes for the pool on Saturday. Too many people, not enough staff. People in our area were upset and cancelling orders after no one showed up for an hour. No umbrellas or shade options by the kids pool, unless you paid for a private cabana. I turned in my keycards to the front desk and instead of accepting it, they pointed to a return bucket on the next desk. I get it, its right there, but come on. Just take the key and wish me a nice day. I obviously have suitcases and bags all over me. Just a bunch if little things that add up to fake luxury. This place can do so much better. And to top it off, they used the wrong name in the email they sent me to review this place. Perfect. Exactly what I would expect after this weekend.

Love the resort. Service is also good. We were a little disappointed about the shuttle service but the hotel made it right. They need to clean the pool better and the lounge chairs and umbrellas need cleaning and replaced.

Great stay, bonused us up to 7th floor adults only. Excellent!! Pool was great also. Lobby always smells wonderful.

La Cantera is a stunning resort. It has been my staycation destination over the last several years. The kids pool is a huge hit with my son. Front desk staff, valet, dining, housekeeping, management have always been welcoming and accommodating. I love being able to text guest services and receive a quick response. This most recent visit did have hiccups with the room assigned. It was a pleasant surprise to learn I received an Expedia VIP upgrade! BUT…evidently there were repairs going on around the hotel and upon entering the room, it sounded like a jack hammer was in the room next to me. They “upgraded” me again to the Citadel but there was an issue late at night with the bathroom lighting and I learned quite early the next morning my room backed to the staff elevator. Third time was the charm. Honestly the resort, the staff, the location are so wonderful, I did not let it hinder my short stay. However, I would recommend guests be apprised upon check in of any repairs going on at the hotel which may affect guest experience.

This place has really gone downhill and needs a total overhaul. We planned a whole relaxing day at the spa. It wasn’t relaxing. A spa is supposed to be quiet and peaceful. The employees both in the massage area and the salon make way too much noise - talking in overly loud voice and laughing. The clientele also very loud. The spa pool was dirty- murky water, outdoor furniture was tattered and dirty. Ordered a glass of champagne by pool and it was dirty. We ate dinner at Sweetfire. Ordered the half chicken and it was swimming in gravy. Was also disappointed that the main bar only served charcuterie boards. Would’ve eaten some bar food if they had anything else. One redeeming aspect was Henrietta’s market. Coffee and breakfast was good. Overall the interiors are dark, outdated. I know the Hilton bought this place. Maybe it’ll get better. It’s still a beautiful setting but needs an overhaul and not worth the cost anymore. I won’t go back.

This really is a wonderful property but the rooms are a little tired and in need of an upgrade. I understand they are doing a massive renovation and I think it is needed. Of course the lobby and the location is without parallel. However the pools are in DESPERATE need of hand rails at both the family pool and the infinity pool. I would not spend this amount of $$ until the renovation is complete.

Excellent resort, beautiful pools with great views. Spa service is amazing. Highly recommend visiting the Loma de Vida Spa.

The room wasn't clean the firts day and the refrigerator didn't work.

My tub was clogged before i arrived, found a cockroach inmy bathroom the second day, mojito I ordered room service had black mint leaves did not look appetizing,pool was supposed to be heated but it was cold,self parking far, room far and if u order door dash u have to get it all the way to the looby, late check out 200 dllr charge . The worse was i was told inwas getting food credit 50 per day at check out theyvsaid it was just for one day.

This is a beautiful property that we visit frequently. On more than one occasion I’ve encountered roaches in the room. The carpet leading out of the bathroom was soaking wet. Staff is not the friendliest but if you get lucky there are some that are very nice. We lucked out with a nice bartender in the pool area and two very nice servers at dinner time. Valet staff is meh

The grounds are beautiful, but the pools (all of them) were dirty and murky. The room was extremely small and there was a loud, intermittent banging sound all hours of the day. Just an overall subpar experience.

Was really not up to par for what it cost to be quite honest with you. When I checked in, I had to call housekeeping to clean the toilet. There was actually feces residue on the seat of the toilet. I really never complain, but that was completely unacceptable. Service was very slow. Overall room was OK but nothing spectacular. The facility itself is very beautiful But lacks on service for sure.

The room smelled yucky. The bathtub had black mold. Very unhappy with my stay.

Nice property, but older and not worth the price. Renovated rooms, but the AC vents were rusty and dirty.

Fabulous stay. The room was very clean and comfy. I took advantage of the trails which had stunning views and enjoyed the pools and views. Several options to choose from for dining and a lovely cafe style store with fresh treats, sandwiches, and yummy ice cream. Hotel staff were so warm and welcoming. Only thing that let the hotel down was the litter in and around the pool and the staff that serviced the pool and pool bars/eateries didn’t acknowledge you and almost avoided you. The pool is such a focal point, I would have expected it to be more tidy especially as it wasn’t busy,

The bathroom had mold in shower tub area, large broken tile next the toilet, no or not working bathroom fan leaving the steam to linger for a while until cleared. There was a small fridge but it was barely cold. The ice machine had no clear indiction where it was located so I had to wander around for awhile until located. For the overall price it was not worth it.

It was under renovation elevators were nasty and marked up in my room. The TV was crooked and also a lot of the light fixtures were crooked as well. It looked like it's been under a lot of renovation and it looked 25 years old

I probably won’t be back. The hotel rooms are very dated. We got a one bedroom suite and it was extremely dated and uncomfortable. They definitely need to update.

Enjoyed our stay at the Villas. It was such a fun experience. We have stayed on the resort in multiple rooms and on 7. Plan on booking the villas again.

Beautiful property, well staffed, didn’t feel over crowded. The walls were noticeably thin and we could hear entire conversations next door. Otherwise a great stay.

La Cantera Resort is back!!! We love it here again. The hotel rooms have been updated beautifully! Great , friendly staff that goes the extra mile. Thank you! Signature restaurant was delicious! What a treat!

For the cost I feel like the facility needs to be renovated. Areas of the hotel and our room smelled musty. Wouldn’t recommend for the price point.

For the price, you would expect softer beds. Those beds were harder than the floor.

The mattresses could use an upgrade. My husband and I experienced significant body aches, joint & back pain due to mattress quality.

We loved our stay at La Cantera. The grounds are beautiful and the amenities are 5 star, but the rooms do not match this. We were surprised by the condition. Definitely old and run down. We hope La Cantera will consider updating the rooms to reflect the rest of the resort and the price. Other than that, we loved our stay.

Beautiful pools and views. The rooms were clean and roomy. I loved walking around the resort . We came for my daughter's 17th birthday and she had a blast. The room walls are thin however we were lucky not a lot of people around us. If you self park just know it is a long walk to the rooms. I would drop off your fellow guest at the vallet. Avoid the breakfast buffet, it is over priced and your basic buffet quality. I was disappointed. I would order off the menu next time. Henrietta's is better. The coffee was amazing and so was the icecream. Primero is tourist quality not great mexican food and the service was almost non existent & the restraunt was empty. If self parking, know it is a long walk to the entrance so I would drop your family & belongings off before parking. Everyone must wear wrist bands so do not cut them off like I did.

People were friendly just, maybe short handed. It was extremely slow to get any service.

The nicest interaction we had was with the lady at the coffee bar. Hopefully they can work on their hospitality. It’s a shame that it’s expensive and they aren’t welcoming at all. Only there for one evening as we were passing through, but loved our stay. Everyone was super friendly and Trinity at the front desk was awesome with check-in and even gave us a choice of what and where we wanted our room to be. Trinity set the tone for the rest of the stay. Would definitely recommend to others and will stay again next time in San Antonio.

Check in was 4pm, and didn’t get a room until 5:30 which they did make up with a late checkout for the same time at 4pm. Rented a daybed for the day couldn’t get to until 6 was still charged full price. All in all a beautiful property but won’t be staying again.

Adult pool food and beverage service was a disaster. Order food to wait an hour and 45 mins to then be told there out of it. By that time was to close to dinner reservations. So messed up entire day. We checked several times within that 1:45 and all we heard was it’s coming their behind. So by then we said we are leaving The next day at check out, the food we never removed in 2 hours was still on our charges. The whole staff of the adult pool area needs to be fired. This happen to about 5-6 couples we were with.

The property is okay but them not responding to my duplicate charges dispute is unacceptable. It's like a scam, they charge you and just hope you won't pursue the duplicate charges. I will never stay here again.

Great staff that make you feel welcomed. They take customer service to the next level with attention to detail. Will be coming back.

Took 30-45 to get car from valet. Check front desk were not helpful.

We have stayed here every year for the last 20 plus years. We always go back because it is a great place with lots of amenities and close to other things people may want to do I did not like the fact that I now have to pay for parking even though the parking area is part of the property and has been there since the place was built. This is on top of the resort fee.

The resort was very secure and secluded. If you need a place that is upscale and has many amenities on the property with nearby shopping center and 6 flags this is the place to stay. Absolutely love the place and would definitely come again. They have self parking and valet parking. You dont have to feel unsafe with leaving your vehicle there as its very secure.

Great environment with a relaxing environment. Plus, food and drink on site! They also provide a shuttle to the nearby shops in case you want to do that. Everything is so close so the convenience is understated.

My sister and I had a little staycation at La Cantera Resort where we were able to “get away” for a few days at this luxurious hotel. We enjoyed having lots of dining and drink choices during our stay. Since it was a staycation-we never intended to leave the resort. Best choice ever. We dined at Sweet Fire Kitchen and Signature. We enjoyed beverages from some of the many bar options. We particularly enjoyed spending time at the amazing adult only pool. The water was wonderful and the views spectacular. In the evening, we’d sit on the terraced lawn and enjoy the breathtaking sunset views while sipping wine. Our room was clean and comfortable and restocked daily with the necessities. The service at each location whether parking the car, having luggage taken to the room or dining-was first rate. Everyone was polite and knowledgeable and made us feel right at home I CAN’T wait to stay here again.

The view and resort are beautiful but if you're not there for golf or an event, after a day of the view, there isn't much to do except lay by the pool. Pool is nice, well maintained w/ choices of areas for kids and adult only and the main combined pool. The pool water was perfect, not too cold nor too warm. They "upgraded" our room to a King w/ pullout queen in order to be close to the second room we got for family. The pullout queen is a sofa bed, it was horrible! Thin mattress and you could feel the steel coils under it and it sloped backward, so your feet were higher than your head and it squeaked when you moved! For such a nice resort, this pullout was not acceptable. My little one didn't mind and thought it was funny, so we didn't complain. If we didn't have to be close to the other room we got for family, I would've rather had a double queen room. The restaurant food at Sweetfire Kitchen was super slow service, waited about an hour for our food, BUT...it was really really good! We all enjoyed our choices from the steak to salmon to chicken and the sides , all were really good! There are many restaurants in the surrounding shopping centers that are not far and many choices too if you don't want to dine in resort. The resort has EV charging but I believe you have to pay valet and then pay to use charger. We just went to nearby Tesla supercharger station at the shopping center.

We had a fantastic stay at The Cantera Resort! The amenities are truly 10/10 — the resort is beautifully maintained with fully renovated bedrooms that are modern, comfortable, and spotless. The multiple pool options with scenic views were a definite highlight and added so much to the relaxing atmosphere. Everything was excellent overall, except for our experience at the pool bar. Unfortunately, all of our drinks were served warm — including the beer — and while the margaritas were decent, the bar service was lacking. The staff seemed undertrained and not particularly friendly. That said, with a little improvement in the bar service, this place would be perfect. We’d still recommend it for the gorgeous setting and top-notch amenities!

Very nice resort Overall, however, the only restaurant I liked was signature restaurant. That place was excellent. The restaurant right next to the pool..grille 254 food was terrible there. The other thing that was disappointing was apparently they put bleach in the hot tub and it ruined my bathing suit as well as my friend’s. The spa was amazing. The snack bar in the spa was not. Food not good there either.

Property is clean , The food is not good at all, The service could be a lot better, Do not even try to order Room Service, They will take forever and with the wrong order.

The only issue we had during our stay was the inconsistencies in the food at Sweet Fire restaurant. For the price you pay for a meal did not meet expectations. The server staff was excellent. Also the chefs and cooks not wearing gloves when handling food.
