Palms Resort & Cafe on the Beach

Property is a bit aged but clean. Location is great. Restaurant is great.

Good value. Easy access to beach, chair and umbrella rental. Outside bar and cafe were convenient.

Best place going! Clean and close to the beach. Wish they had more beach loungers and umbrellas. They should tell visitors about reserving them ahead of time or as you check in.

Wonderful beach access-you can hear the sea! clean heated pool bar area restaurant happy hour specials indoor/outdoor dining options...Rooms are decent size with pleasant decor walking shower fridge&microwave Appreciated that at the Palm's...4 pillows on our king bed&4bath towels for our 2 person stay which we always appreciate 4&4 especially that we didn't need to make a special request THANKS !!!

Room wasn’t very modern/ updated but that is not a drawback for me personally. It was clean and well maintained with good AC. You can’t beat the proximity to the beach. Parking can be limited because of the restaurant but they do their best. Will definitely stay again.

It was nice that it was very close to the beach, but the hotel’s swimming pool looked small and dirty so I couldn‘t go in.

Overall, the place was clean, quiet, and had a friendly staff. The cafe had the best Margarita my gf has ever had, and the food was awesome. However, the lone bed was hard, small (full size, I think), and had an old-school spring mattress that sunk in such a way as to cause the lighter of two occupants to sink onto the heavier user’s side. The water was extremely hot, and the parking lot was tiny and difficult to get out of, as it was a dead end lot that required full sized cars to back out of for the entire length of it. Also, the pool is right next to the outdoor dining area, making it a bit uncomfortable to use. Price, staff, food, and proximity to the beach made it worthwhile, though.

We come to SPI every summer. This was our first time staying at The Palms. We probably won’t stay anywhere else now! Clean, comfortable, convenient. Parking wasn’t an issue, they were diligent about hotel guests only parking in the lot. Beach was close and bed was comfy.

A very nice motel located on the beach. Needs a few updates but the staff are super helpful and friendly. Has a nice cafe in the back where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also has a nice bar. Met the owners who are great folks and are working to upgrade the property. Will stay here again when we return.

The property is in a great location. Unfortunately our room smelled really bad; like raw sewage or an old dirty dish rag. We wondered if they were having plumbing issues.

The people were nice and understanding but our unit had bed bugs

We loved the restaurant. Although not offering real fresh squeezed oj is a downer. Easy beach access. Umbrellas easy to reserve. Room was upstairs. Door knob was loose but locked. We had a small cockroach on a bag that was ON the table. Then had another small cockroach in bathroom. I was grossed out. Floors felt sticky and unswept. Room is definitely old and needs upgrading.

The air conditioning unit didn’t seem to be working correctly. Although it was cooling, it still felt very humid and smelled like mildew inside the room from the AC!

Cockroach was found in our room.

We've stayed at this facility before, but the service was not that good this time, especially in the restaurant. It was a little too crowded ant it appears hotel guests are pushed aside for the regulars that come by for a meal. And we had roaches in our room by the AC unit.

They need to get rid of the roaches There was one in my bed which caused me not to sleep well

This was a great place to stay. Very friendly staff and they cleaned our room daily. Restaurant below had great food. Best omelet we ever had. Nice pool and the beach is just a short walk away.

Retro means old. Built in 1972. Posted pictures did not reveal true-to-life circumstances. It was very clean and neat. Staff were very nice and professional. Restaurant very petite, but the food is fabulous. Hotel just wasnt what we wanted or expected. Had a great location. No ocean view except at restaurant,pool or parking lot. An economy hotel.

Older property. Could use a renovation but it was mostly clean, no bugs and everything worked. A/c was loud but worked well. Although has small kitchenette area, no cooking other than microwave. No silverware but couple plates and cups. There was leftover to go food in fridge but in fairness, I had a bottle of wine in there and didn’t see the to go container until about the third time I got in there. Restaurant on site and staff was great. I only had a drink so can’t comment on food. Set on beach side so easy to get in the sand. All drinks on patio and pool area must be bought from bar but prices were reasonable. Would not hesitate to stay here again as good value for money Bed was comfortable but pillows were not great. No ice machine but they sell ice for $3 a bag

Beach access was just steps away from of our room. Love the convenience of the restaurant downstairs. The food and staff are great! Room was very clean and property was calm and quiet. If I could change one thing about our stay it would be the pillows, which were very lumpy and not very comfortable. We didn’t think to ask for different ones, or bring our own. But we will stay again, when we re-visit South Padre.

Loved the beach. When I booked it ahowed 2 queen beds and I got only 1. There was no water pressure when takkng a shower. That was the major complaint but overall good. The cafe had really good food service questionable dependsnon server but I still enjoyed my stay. Not a lot of rowdiness thank goodness with spring break. Staff was nice. Trash cans super small but I always bring my own trash bag for that reason. I didnt like the parking situation. There should be designated parking for guests staying at resort. People dining would take up our parking.

Stayed here two nights, first off, the staff are excellent. Couple key points, the beach out front is packed with people all day long and many cart their way in from vehicles or across the street. It is not “private” in any way because there is a public access beach ramp in the parking lot that everyone seems to know about. The public restaurant/bar can be very crowded too. Food is good, but upper price range. The pool is full of sand from everyone washing off from the beach instead of using the shower out by the walkway. Saw kids flat covered in sand hopping in the pool to rinse off. Room is pretty small with damaged and dated furniture. Front living room, half wall, bed, half wall, bathroom, strange layout. There were absolutely zero utensils or plates in kitchen. Nothing to put food on for the tiny microwave. Tiny bathroom and toilet with very low water pressure, no room around bathroom sink. Tub had been converted to walk in shower years ago and needed a hard scrubbing, very low shower pressure. WiFi works but TV had constant buffering problems. DO NOT try to bring a boat trailer, tight parking is very limited. I would rate this place expensive for what it provides, it’s just old and needs a facelift.

We booked this hotel because it's pet friendly and its near the beach. We wanted to be able to enjoy as much time on the beach as possible. This location did not disappoint. The location - this place is located right on the water. It was very easy for us to get all of our things and spend all day at the beach. There is a restaurant and the food was very delicious. We ate there twice during our stay, blackened mahi was good. The parking lot is small, and it can get a little crowded since people will go there to eat, that aren't guests of the hotel. We didn't move our car much during peak times, so we were not impacted by that much. Rooms - our room was very clean when we arrived. We booked a suite room and it was all we needed. Bed was comfy, plenty of outlets around the bed to charge up, big fridge and a microwave. The decor was very plain, but thats not a negative. Pet Friendlyness - there is a charge for your pup to stay. Everything was very pet friendly. They are not allowed in the restaurant, but they can sit you near the pool to eat, which our dog loved because he got all the attention from the kids playing in the pool. One of the waiters was very friendly and my dog immediately became bff's. Wifi - there is Wifi in the rooms. This was the only issue for me. I had to hop on a work meeting and I struggled to connect to my work. I ended up using my phone as a Hotspot and barely got by. Keep that in mind if you need to work remotely. Closest star b's is 15 min car ride

Location cannot be beat. Great restaurant and beach access make this a winner, but don't come looking for fine finishes or furnishings.

love this hotel but rooms are so tiny, only 1 bed. We have stayed here 4 years in a row—though will probably stay elsewhere next time

The best thing is you have beach access and the cafe is really good. The WiFi did not work and the rooms are very dated and didn’t have a blow dryer. The parking is very limited so if you have two cars you have to find parking for your second car elsewhere. It’s pricey for what it is in my opinion.

Great value and location! Older hotel but clean and big rooms. Loved cafe right at the hotel. After birding most the day took walks at the beach and ate most meals at the cafe. Parking was facilitated by a new parking attendant we made sure hotel guests were not squeezed out by cafe guests. We had a brand new king size mattress that was super comfortable. Would stay again.

Staff was not friendly. The smoke alarm went off at 4 am and even to take the batteries out the alarm it wouldn’t turn off and it would beep every few minutes. We could not sleep well through the night and when I told the receptionist in the morning she did not apologize or offer any assistance to say would you need an extra hour to sleep? And they walked in on my husband while he was changing clothes exactly at checkout at 11. If you rent just make sure you’re out before 11.

Unique beach local favorite. Wonderfully delicious restaurant on the first floor has great service and delicious fresh options. Front Desk could be friendlier.

They let me check in early! The beach access is fantastic. The cafe was convenient and pleasant. The property is a bit old and the room small but everything was clean, the air-conditioning cold and bed comfy.

Loved that we were right on the ocean! The hotel was affordable and had a reasonable cancellation policy as we were uncertain about our probability of coming. We had deluxe king rooms which were accommodating for everyone. The room was cleaned every day. Reviews mentioned parking was a problem but Will, the parking attendant, was hired to make it much easier for the people staying at the hotel to park. He managed to always put us in a good parking position for a large SUV. The cafe was awesome and was super nice that it was right on location. We ate there three times and the food and drinks were always good and prices were very affordable. Excellent value and great location.

Big room with a small living area that was clean and comfortable. The location is amazing! The cafe is fabulous! The only complaints I have is the toilet is tiny and the sheets are scratchy.

Right on the beach!

The rooms are quite spacious, bed area separate from kitchenette/living. The cafe was a plus, we decided to have our meals there. Very close to the sea.

The Palms is a hidden gem!! It’s very simple if all you’re looking for is to sleep in the room and shower but well worth the stay! The restaurant has great breakfast, lunch and dinner! Robert the bartender and the servers are great! They also have great suggestions. You have a beach access right there that’s easy and with chairs and loungers. I highly recommend!!

Parking is tough but not bad. Rooms were perfect!! The restaurant was THE ABSOLUTE BEST on the island and if you go, throw up a “hook ‘em” to Robert and ask about the blackened snapper Sammy! (Also - the home made parm chips??? Oh hell yeah) We will be back!

There are many choices for accommodation on South Padre Island, but what compelled me to stay at The Palms was the on-site restaurant. "Our award winning beachside restaurant (The Cafe on the Beach) is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Start your day with Eggs Benedict and a mimosa. End your day with steak and lobster and a fine wine," reads their listing on Trip Advisor. Sounded good. Unfortunately, it was not to be. After relaxing on the beach ($40.00 for an umbrella and chair rental) I got ready for dinner, looking forward to oysters Rockefeller and red snapper. But, at 7:30, the restaurant was full. I came back at 8:00. Still full. I waited 30 minutes, but still no open tables. I was told room service was not an option, and to try back later, before 10:00 when the restaurant closed. I kept checking back between 9:00 and 10:00 and there was never a table open. Finally, at 10:00, I had to swing by a corner store for some frozen burritos I could heat up in the microwave graciously supplied in my hotel room. Sure, the room was fine, and The Palms is close to the beach (though nowhere is far from the beach on South Padre). But there are plenty of cheaper options closer to the restaurants on the main road. Since eating at the hotel restaurant is not guaranteed for hotel guests, I would choose one of those next time and give The Palms a miss. Disappointing.

The place was really cute and we got a nice room facing the beach. We stayed at the Palms because of the beach views & the cafe. Our only concern was that the coffee & breakfast at the cafe was not the greatest and it was really over priced for the quality.

Convenient location on the beach hotel/motel. It was comfortable and clean. Best part the Cafe serving good food and drinks.
