The Continental Hotel, Derby

Beds where really uncomfortable, rooms where tiny and not modern, no lift access for my disabled partner. Key card never worked and tried blaming us, food was basic. Main reception was the only part that looked lovely

The hotel has recently been taken over and the restaurant has been renovated into an Indian restaurant which was very nice and the food was good, the photos on the website are all of the restaurant. The hotel is yet to be renovated, the rooms are basic. I was woken up in the night at 2.30am with either rowdy guests or staff laughing and shouting in the reception area which lasted until 3.30am, this is not the behaviour you expect in a good hotel. The breakfast buffet was non existent a cooked breakfast was offer with no choice and was very basic. I will not be returning.

Rlly great , WiFi wasn’t working however I was suprised at how nice the hotel was I really enjoyed it and the restaurant was 11/10

Very good value overall. I was a bit sceptical because I picked up my reservation for just over £40 through the internet and wasn’t sure what to expect at that price point. Car park was free, very well lit. Single room not at all cramped and got a good sleep even though I was facing the road as it is not busy at night. Bathroom suite and shower looked fairly recent and all very clean. Of course the decor and furniture aren’t like your £100 a night hotel but that not worth the difference in price in my opinion. Much better than I expected and excellent value.

The hotel was great for the price with a really nice Indian restraunt on the premises. Giving 15% discount if you are staying there The breakfast was really great included in the room price.The car park being a bit hilly is my only critismn .Just a nice hotel to stay With great staff

Good welcome and room very good - clean and recently re-decorated. Good shower. Attached restaurant very good; keenly priced with great service; lovely Indian food.

The room was very hot alright the weather was scorching on the night I stayed . Room was O.K . Functional . The entrance looked good but round the back where you park was messy with building materials . Looked like it was in the process of refurbishment as there was wet paint signs in the hallways . Overall was clean and served its purpose.

Car park is horrid, not much parking availiable and very tight to get out of spaces. Water pressure in shower poor as is rhe wifi!

Unfortunately this was the worst hotel stay I have ever had. ‘Refurbished’ in the description only referred to the front/ reception and bar area of the hotel, which did look lovely. But up the stairs and the rooms were the polar opposite. Our room was in serious need of repair, and was also dirty/ some substances splashed up the walls and on the head board. the bed was the most uncomfortable bed with springs pushing into your back even through the duvet (we slept over the duvet). The walls were paper thin and were woken multiple times through out the night to drunken guests running around the corridors, shouting and banging. As well as being able to hear EVERYTHING being done and said in the bedroom behind us. I would highly recommend the place being shut until it is refurbished and cleaned! The breakfast was very basic, no staff greeted us or took our order. I had to go to the reception to ask what was on offer. When we did see the staff they seamed confused. I witnessed a staff member ‘cleaning’ the table once a guest left for breakfast, with just a napkin that was left on the table. We will not be returning and highly advise other hotels to guests thinking of staying there. I have never left a bad review for a hotel before, I am very shocked and disappointed by this.

Overall stay was good but overpriced for condition of rooms budget hotel at best... Rooms itself was big but it was not cleaned enough as we found dead insects around the room even in lamp shade and condition of furniture is very dated but hotel in decent location at least

Absolutely unacceptable experience. The room was unbearably hot, and it was clear the sheets had not been changed before our arrival, we found multiple hairs on the bed. When we requested an iron and ironing board, both were broken and unusable. Overall, the standards of cleanliness and basic amenities were shockingly poor. Avoid this hotel at all costs, you’ll be glad you did.

Unfortunately the property needs a lot of Love! The ground floor has been refurbished and looks good and the staff on check in were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is beyond awful. It’s just wide of the mark on all counts. We went elsewhere for breakfast on second morning although we had breakfast included. The rooms - the beds are not terribly nice with poor linen And the bathroom smell of urine the entire stay. All this coupled by a loud fight in the hall outside adjoining room between two men - one who claimed the other was related to the owner. Very disappointing - needs someone to grab hold of the management Could be good with some genuine strong management.

Great value for the money, clean tidy great staff helpfull

Was made to pay an extra deposit and was told this was if i damaged the room. Going up the stairs from the lobby the hand rail was loose lots of untidy things like bodged repairs on way to the room when I got to the room the light was off the wall iron burns in the carpet cracks in the bath and lots or mould at the tap end of the bath shower rail glued together…

Bed was small and uncomfortable and room very hot even with a fan on and windows open all night.

Nice staff. Clean cosy room had a decent sleep. Bit of traffic noise but to be expected as on a main road not a problem for me. Breakfast wasn’t the best but did the job. Would have liked the dessi breakfast as an option. Would I stay here again?? Yes I would

Really nice stay ideal for my trip, breakfast was extra but reasonably priced, one minor issue was the water pressure in the shower in my 2nd floor room was poor but this wouldn’t prevent me from staying again

Radiator didn't warm up. Shower too hot and didn't really cool down. Mattress old, feel the springs. Dated decor and fittings. Cooked breakfast was not appetising, bacon, beans and scrambled eggs all tasted sweet, Sausages not of good quality, and portuon size small. Staff freindly.

Good value hotel. Very comfortable and staff were very friendly and helpful. Decor is a bit dated - room only had 2 power sockets, for example.

A hotel on a busy road but with parking facilities on site. It was some distance from the town but there is a bus stop nearby (these stop running pretty early). It is located next to an Indian restaurant where we could have a meal with 15% discount for staying at the hotel. The room was small and very warm, opening the window meant noise from the traffic. Unfortunately the TV remote did not work in the room, although staff did try to resolve the issue unsuccessfully. It was nice to have a bath in the en suite room; something that is lacking in many hotels!

Reception Staff (smiler) didn’t understand what disabied twin room is. Made my disabled husband walk more than 20 steps up to 1st floor and then another 20 steps to last room on 1st floor. My husband had polio when he was 2.5 years old. He had been wearing a caliper on his right leg since 2.5 years old. I don’t think smiler’s English language understanding is good enough for her job. I rang to ask for disabled twin room. She said she move us down from 2nd floor to 1st floor near to reception on ground floor. Room 119 was not the 1st room on the 1st floor. It was the last room on the 1st floor! The 1st floor corridor was a death trap; too narrow. This is an old hotel. In the event of a fire, there will be a stampede and people will be trampled to death in the panic. I normally stay in IHG , Marriott and Premier inn hotels. They have wide corridors so people will not be trampled to death in an emergency. Plus, the hotels we stay at have Disabled bedrooms which are more spacious and can accommodate a wheelchair. If Continental Derby hotel didn’t have disabled bedrooms, the receptionist should have said they don’t have disabled bedrooms and advised me to go elsewhere when I rang more than 1 week before checking in. She probably thought she was being helpful by moving us from 2nd floor to 1st floor. The room was so unsuitable we drove home from derby to new Malden KT3 3JJ that same night. We did not stay in the hotel room. I would like a full refund of £58.68 please. Thanks

lift not working im disabled and the attitude was like oh well what am i supposed to do from receptionist , then there was the room the bed was broken with a disgusting stain on matteres also do not eat in attached restaurant we did and husband up all night being sick proudly displays a 5* when in fact its a 3* avoid i have emailed hotel yo discuss issues and they are not interested

Firstly the name international hotel was nowhere to be seen on arrival as it was called continental hotel!! Was not told that upon signing at the bottom of the check in sheet that any damages would be charged for which is ok if told about and if the room was faultless. On entering the room it was very clear that it was far from this. I took ten pictures of damages to report to reception that I did not want charging for and even after that found that the lights were loose on the wall and the bathroom sink tap was spinning loose. I asked why if they were charging for damage, why aren't they fixing the damage unless it's a money making scheme?? Then we came down to breakfast and was described as a buffet full English but was given a plate of scrambled egg, deep fried mushrooms, deep fried very cheap sausages, deep fried hash browns, and cheap cardboard bacon, I should know because I'm a chef. The rest of the breakfast offer was not great either. I would recommend anyone to stay here and have now decided to stick to well know chain hotels no matter how much more money I need to spend as saving money gives zero satisfaction.

It's was very nice checking in with a woman called smilelea. And the restaurant staff were very nice and so was the food. But in the morning I went greated with a very rude woman. That just brought out breakfast and dumped it on the table without asking what we would like or not like. The breakfast was cold and not edible at all. It's was a very big let down 1st thing in the morning. Then when I went to ask about it all there was nobody to ask.

The staff are so amazing, kind and helpful. We really appreciate it.

The services from Rebecca, the manager and other receptionist lady were great and thank you so much for the upgraded room which is greatly appreciated. The hotel is generally very good especially in the restaurant and reception areas and although the rooms were a bit dated they were clean. The location is 15 mins walk to the centre and there were lots of free parking at the back of the hotel. Breakfast was good but the sausage was poor quality! I would return on my next visit to Derby. Thank you for all the great service!

Overall the property was good but we had a few issues. We stayed in room 105 and as soon as we walked in the smell of cooking oil hit us. It was more noticeable in the bathroom. TV remote needs replacing as we couldn\'t turn the channels over very well or turn the volume up and down. The coffee machine in the room didn\'t work. We had a "full breakfast" on Saturday morning and we were both very disappointed. One sausage, a few pieces of odd looking bacon which didn\'t taste nice, a quarter of a tomato (prefer tin or vined), scrambled egg which was nice. The continental breakfast was poor. 4 slice toast machine was broken on one side, the rotating toast machine wasn\'t on. Apple juice was very sweet. There wasn\'t any teaspoons. There wasn’t anything to use to warm the pastries up. Prefer these to be fresh. The restaurant was clean and tidy, the breakfast let it down.
