Smart Aston Court Hotel Derby

Shame that by my previous visit, the residents licence had lapsed so the bar wasn't open late for residents and this time the bar licence had also lapsed so you couldn't get a drink in the hotel. The staff did inform me that the bar was to be outsourced. Hopefully that has already happened.

I stayed here with my son for 2 nights. I picked this hotel because it was across the road from the train station and a 10 minute walk from the town centre. We were generally happy with our stay at the hotel. The only thing we were disappointed in was that the lift was broken while we were there so I had to carry out suitcase upstairs. I was physically fit to do this but I think that some older people/unfit people would struggle with this. We also had breakfast at the hotel which we enjoyed as it was buffet style with a good selection of food to choose from. The staff were also helpful

Near to Railway Station, plenty of Restaurant's nearby. Only problem, was Lift was not working, I have Mobility Issues.

Beware the car park advertised as ‘free’ on the hotel’s website actually costs £8 per night to park! When I queried this at reception, the receptionist told me it was an old website that is no longer used and I should be grateful for the good value as he used to work in London and parking was >£100 for 2 nights. When I looked in the room at the literature, surprise surprise the ‘old’ website is still listed! Aside from the car parking the stay was uneventful, the room was clean and tidy; the shower was ok but kept alternating between hot and cold. The area itself is handy for the station and a 20 minute walk at a good pace in to the town centre. I didn’t feel safe however in the evening here as a pedestrian; local shops were handy for soft drinks. I may stay again if the price was right but the main reason for staying here previously is the free parking as, without that, there are more competitively priced alternatives closer to the town centre.

Ideal for an overnight stay in Derby, right next to the train station and easy distance to the town. Shame we had to pay £8 to park despite the website saying it was free parking. Only 1 towel between 2 of us. Didn’t realise until we went to use it so didn’t get a chance to ask for another!

New owners have let the alcohol licence lapse so the bar wasn't open. We usually have a beer and game of pool late evening/early morning. That wasn't possible this time. We visit half a dozen times a year so I hope this situation improves.

Place was unclean, smelling of cigarette, basin in the bathroom slightly blocked water was not going down quickly, dust all over the headboards and on the kettle

Booked 3 rooms, all rooms were dirty, rubbish left in the hallways, not as advertised.

Flooring was making creepy noise, lights were flickering, bathroon shower curtains were heavily stained, not clean. Old furniture.

There was mould all over the bathroom it stunk it mould the shower was dirty hair in the bathroom bed sheets had stains

Low quality hotel. Decor needs a lot of refreshing. Showe curtains were very dirty

The room looked clean however the bathroom was extremely dated and in need of upgrading…it looked as if it was installed during the 89’s/90’s and matched the polystyrene ceiling tiles. The room also had a bad odour of someone having been smoking…hence why the window was left open we assume?!

The hotel was dirty. The stairs leading and corridors leading to the rooms needed cleaning. In the room the bed was clean and comfortable. However, the room had debris on the floor, the bathroom was dirty and needed a good clean with the floor being sticky and needing a mop. On the plus side the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The bedroom and stairs had nice new carpet. The room was let down by the bathroom. The shower was over the bath and had a stained shower curtain. Ventilation in the room wasn’t great. It was really hot. Fire door at the end of the corridor was wedged open and therefore would not have provided any protection in the event of a fire.

The room was clean,but was hot even with the heating turned off,Staff was friendly and very helpful, the Breakfast isn't free, the evening meals was bland

We atayed for 5 nights in a King room that had a sofa, fridge and TV. The room was obviously fairly recently refurbished and was pretty clean. It was great for us as we had plenty of space in the room. Bed was comfortable. It’s in a central location, 10 minute walk to shopping centre and there are a few nearby pubs. There was parking at the back but be aware you have to pay for this. We had a really great trip and it was very affordable.

I was required to undertake a pre-check in online, so when I arrived at the hotel and found no one on reception, I went straight to my room. The receptionist came and found me later! The hotel looks to have been newly refurbished. It was vet clean and everything was in good condition. The room was a single but had everything I needed for a one night stay. The bed was comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone. However, I cannot comment on the bar or breakfast as I did not use either.

Had to knock on the front door and press the buzzer for quite some time before being let in at about midnight. When I got to my room it was like a sauna, way too hot!

Got a room over a pelican crossing beeps going off from 6 o'clock onwards ask for a room at the rear of the hotel.

Nice to see this hotel open again. Very convenient for the rail station (as in across the road!) Not much to look at from the outside but clearly a lot of money has been spent inside - refreshed, repainted, new carpet. Furniture in room could do with an update as it looks it’s age now, and the bathroom likewise as broken plug chain, no mixer taps and especially the horrid shower curtain lets the side down a bit after all the renovation. Room and hotel was always clean and tidy, while all the staff we encountered were always professional and friendly. Can’t comment on breakfast as this time we didn’t book any, but the breakfast room looked pleasant. It was perfectly OK to get food delivered and eat in the lounge. It’s not on the quietest or nicest of streets (unless you like curry or real ale - which we do and was one of the reasons we came back)! But that’s not the hotels fault!

Perfect for our stay in derby, we were roadside, next to the pelican so a bit noisy until early hours. Breakfast was ok, food hot and no waiting for anything. Downside, lift was broken so not great for restricted mobility. Thankfully I was ok today.

Great breakfast, staff helpful in suggesting somewhere to eat when I arrived in the evening. Himanshu sorted leaving my suitcase for the day whilst I was at a railway event, all very smooth.

Booked this place on the basis of the location & the reviews of great customer service. What a shocking experience……..my course finished early. Popped my head in to see if my suite id booked might by chance be ready. Was met with the most unwelcoming Energy from the receptionist. I’d clearly interpreted her conversation with a staff member……abruptly told that check in was a 3pm ( which I already knew) could leave my bags if I wanted, again Ian such a dismissive tone……I just left Later I came bk to check in and was quite surprised on the tone again I was greeted with. Her not ready and interrogated as though I had no booking……she finally found it and checked me. The hotel & location are actually great. The suite I stayed in was lovely and freshly renovated I could tell. I’d not recommend this hotel if one has to interact with the staff ( or at least the lady on reception). Horrid behaviour for someone that works in hospitality. The kinda’ hotel that would do better with a self check in system and key drop off set up. Sadly no head office to express my horrid experience

The hotel is excellently located for the train station and getting about. Friendly staff. Thanks to Himanshu, and in particular Reshma, for solving with an issue we had with the room.

Staff were very polite, kind and accommodating. The rooms were surprisingly quiet (even with windows open), when considering how close to the train station etc the hotel is!

Handy hotel for Derby rail station, with an easy walk into the centre. Friendly staff, particularly HK, and a clean comfortable room. Would happily return the next time I stay in Derby.

Himanshu and the lady on reception were very nice and helpful, only down side was the area the other hotels are being used for other reasons!!!!, night time outside was not good I was back before dark, but location is good for city and train station

No issues. Car park is approx £12 for the night. Breakfast £11.95 They dont do draught beer or meals but otherwise its a good place to stop

Aston Court is right next to the station so very convenient. Buzzer for night porter entry/check-in after 23.00 was straightforward (and needed by me as train waa very late, as many currently are). Generally good quality - some bathroom equipment bit fashion-tired, but everything worked well. Very good service at reception desk and at breakfast.

Comfortable bed , good breakfast and overall good value. It was a pity the restaurant was not providing evening meals.
