Clayton Hotel Cambridge

Lovely hotel, very modern and clean. Good location just a short walk to the town centre. If you drive parking is expensive. Great hotel stay.

The size of rooms were really good. Bed was very comfy. Parking was the only issue. The close car park was closed and the next closest car park was 20 mins away. Apart from that it was a very good stay.

Overall the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The restaurant was excellent with quality food and friendly staff. The negative is the parking situation, with the NCP car park recommended by the hotel costing a shocking £29.00 for an overnight stay ( Arrived at 18:00 and departed at 08:00 the next day). As someone who travels around the UK for my job, this was extortionate and the highest price I have paid for overnight parking recommended by a hotel. Would put me off staying here in future, which is unfortunate.

Lovely hotel. We arrived at 11:a.m. and they got us a room right away. Loved the library and fireplace. Great English breakfast next morning! Wish we could have stayed longer! We will be back!

Checked and they didn’t tell me when’s checkout or anything….just handed memthe keys. Then on check out I got stuck in the lift….not even an apology for the broken lift.

Hotel is of a high standard. With friendly staff. Though it is NOT clear there in NO parking onsite.

Stayed for 5 nights and loved every minute. Perfect for working and relaxing, appreciated having a gym on premise as well. The library is stunning and a perfect place to sit and work. Staff are friendly and helpful as well. Will definitely be back

Super clean, room was very spacious! Mini bar has complimentary drinks and snacks. The buffet was good, offering fruit, yoghurts, coffee machine, full English breakfast and some other items a la crate. What we loved is that the hotel was conveniently located one block away from the train station. Making it extremely accessible. Also on the main road where you can take bus 3 or 1 straight to Cambridge center, which was roughly 7 min away on bus. The hotel also offers some bikes to rent! There is a Tesco express on the corner and opposite to that there is a Cafe NERO and some other shops and restaurants.

We were 2 couples with rooms nextdoor which was great, unfortunately the first thing we saw when we went up to our rooms were dirty cups and glasses (outside both rooms!) from previous guests. On our way out I told reception and she apologised saying housekeeping would take them away. Unfortunately on ou return that evening there was still a dirty cup outside my room, there was absolutely no excuse for this si ce the dirrty glasses from nextdoor had gone! This is nothing short of inadequate and quite frankly is really poor service - when i told reception o checking out the dirty cup from previous guests was still there I was told they are shirt staffed!!! This was clearly not true and NOT the reason, since somebody had been uk to remove my friends dirty belongings from previous guests..I think for a hotel of this quality people should care more about their customers and their experience, which is the reason i have taken my own time to complete this feedback as it most definitely not good enough!! Such a shame because our room was very comfortable but i cant overlook the inadequacy or lack of care when something is reported.

A summary of my room: Aircon was on the coldest setting when I arrived. I then had to spend several hours trying to get it warm just as I wanted to go to sleep. In my room there was no menu. The TV did not work as advertised. The pillows only had one case on them which didn’t fit so I have to take them off and put them back on again. My toilet was ‘dirty’ The hand soap dispenser had come off the wall. Breakfast was worse than a low budget hotel with soggy hash browns, over cooked yet cold vegetarian sausages. Cold beans. Reconstructed and cold scrambled ‘egg’. One coffee machine for a dining room that big is not good enough. Bills itself as a premium offering but my window view was on to a messy courtyard, I walked past a service room on floor one which looked like a fire hazard of piled up junk. When I told the reception desk about the issues with my room she asked me if I could show her pictures of the poo that I found on the toilet as otherwise she couldn’t help me. Disappointing for the price and whilst the exterior of the place looks quality, the interior reality is different. I’d say the breakfast was the worst I have had at a hotel for many years.

Staff lovely and helpful. Breakfast was deeply uninspiring. Presliced bread and the milk in the coffee machine tasted off. Surprisingly mediocre. The bed was comfortable but the leather chair was stained and the carpet worn. The whole place needs a gentle refresh.

When first arriving at the hotel it was amazing - I had booked the executive king room with balcony. The room looked amazing visually however there was a few things that let me down, there was a brown/red stain on the carpet, surfaces was slightly grimey, cigarette butts on the floor of balcony. Not the kind of cleanliness I expected given the calibre of hotel I was staying in, in the morning I ordered breakfast via room service and when it arrived I was Beyond shocked when it was stone cold and swimming in liquid on the plate I think a full English breakfast shouldn’t be that hard to arrive 1. Cooked properly and 2. Warm on arrival. All in all was a big let down as I came away for a break from day to day life thought I was treating myself but left feeling a bit let down. I then tried to give feedback to the hotel and was told the manager would phone me and it’s been three days and still no word - as a hotel customer service should be number one priority and I just feel like it wasn’t on this occasion.

I visited a hotel in March, eagerly anticipating my stay due to its excellent reviews. Upon arrival, I found the hotel's aesthetics and my room quite delightful. Despite initial trouble with a stubborn window, we managed to close it eventually. However, the room grew uncomfortably hot overnight, and the air conditioning unit failed to work — an issue I didn't feel appropriate to report at 4 a.m. Additionally, with only one bottle of still water available, our thirst went unquenched. In the morning, we were greeted with cold water in the shower, but as it was nearly check-out time, I deemed it too late to lodge a complaint. I did bring up these issues during check-out, not seeking compensation, but merely to inform. An apology was offered, paired with a question about why I hadn't reported the problems sooner. While I wasn't expecting any reimbursement, a gesture such as a discount on a future stay (irrespective of my intention to use it, as our trip to Cambridge was not a regular occurrence) would have been appreciated as an acknowledgment of our discomfort. It being a 4 star hotel these issues shouldn't have been there in the first place.

The bedroom was large, warm and the bed and facilities were very good indeed. The hotel facilities and service are not too bad either. It borders on luxurious in my opinion. Perfectly placed train station and the centre of Cambridge with all its restaurants and shops.

Room itself was lovely but was extremely hot despite changing the temperature and opening a window, didn’t sleep because of this

Conveniently located hotel right by Cambridge train station. Little bit of a walk into town, but that was expected. Modern furnishings and probably the biggest comfiest bed I’ve slept in. Lovely bathroom as well. Friendly staff.

Really nice room, clean, accessible to the train station, walkable to the town centre - about 20 mins. The service was not so good. The room has no extra necessities in the bathroom. We were calling reception around 10pm for the best part of 10 minutes, on and off, there is just no response. We just went without it in the end. Upon arrival they tried to sell us breakfast for £19.99 each; yet when we checked online, on their own website, they were selling it for £ 25 for 2 pple. But again, you couldn't ask the question because no one answers the phone. My partner had been to the desk to ask for an extra card, as he had forgotten it upstairs and the guy at the desk just ignored him. There were about a dozen pple waiting to be served and it would have taken him 2 mins to cut a new card. In the morning, the cleaner outside the room was taking so loud. She must have been cleaning next door. It was disruptive. The little things matter. Other than that, really nice location. Maybe we caught staff on a bad day but if those little things hadn't happened, i would have given it 5*

I’ve been staying at this hotel for about seven or eight years and we use it regularly. This state was by far the worst I’ve ever experienced. It took about 40 minutes to get somebody to answer the phone for room service air-conditioning room wouldn’t work properly and I was absolutely freezing, and then when I arrived in the evening on the Saturday, my room card wouldn’t work. When arriving back to reception to ask them if they could resolve it I was told I would have to wait as there wasn’t enough staff after 15 minutes of waiting I asked again if somebody could help me and with a half the receptionist went and got somebody else for me. The room I was staying in had a dripping sound from the room above that would randomly just tap tap tap on the ceiling all night on the first night I slept with earplugs to block out the sound. On Friday upon taking 40 minutes to get in contact with room service they then sent a menu up to my room because there wasn’t one in there then once they bought me the menu after over an hour and a half of waiting I was told I couldn’t order room service anyway because they hadn’t asked me to charge a card to my room The guy who came to see me and I was still talking to him. He just walked off up the corridor. This is not the sort of thing I expect from what is meant to be a 4 to 5 star hotel I will not be staying here again, and I won’t be bringing my friends or telling anybody else to stay here anymore it’s gone seriously downhill .

Staff at every level were professional, welcoming and extremely helpful. Great location, just a five-minute walk from the train station.

Property was under staffed. Restaurant wait over an hour for food and Sri is. They did not service our room, no fresh towels. The blinds were broken and falling off the rod. No one came to fix it.

He really made my day when I was told that I had been very kindly upgraded. My room was beautiful, spacious and really comfortable! I will definitely come back to stay at Clayton Hotel Cambridge in the future. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience and stay!

Quick check in, we turned up early and staff were able to find a room that was available before usual check in time. Very welcoming and room was lovely and spacious. Shower was amazing and the bed was really comfy

The property is extremely closed to the train station so it's very convenient if you have large luggages. It's a about 15 min walk to the town center. The room is adequately sized, even for a 3-person room.

Excellent hotel, right by the railway station. Took about 20 mins to walk to city centre but there are plenty of buses around. Breakfast was good. Room was a double, wet spacious and huge bed was very comfortable. Will definitely return when we next visit this beautiful city

My stay at Clayton Hotel Cambridge was excellent. It’s a great hotel with an attractive rate, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Cambridge. The location is perfect—right in front of the railway station.

Breakfast was good , except there was broken glass on the prefilled juice ( small glasses on a shelf ) I drank , I am not sure if I swallowed any but I had no after effects . Maybe checking them for breaks !!

The hotel has a very new and fresh feeling to it, everything is very clean and has a lovely smell. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really nice. The only negative is the room service food we received was terrible. The chips were cold and undercooked, the pizza's were completely burnt and tasted like cheap frozen supermarket ones. Very disappointing.

If you’re on business and in particular visiting some of the key HQ offices in Cambridge this is a superb hotel. Service is top notch along with the rooms. Only down side was the luke warm English breakfast and coffee quality from those terrible machines. So their phenomenal service came into play with the French press alternative!
