If you looking for a new premier inn feel, this is not the place, the reception and some other areas have been updated but the rooms are a bit tatty but it is an old building. I understand the old style of the building but removing cobwebs from the ceiling are a quick fix. The staff were friendly helpful and attentive, especially the serving staff. I loved the history of the building and if you venture down the stairs you will see some lovely stain glass windows.

The description on the property site offers “city view” rooms for lower cost. After arriving, I was told by front desk staff that “city view “ means no windows! What a surprise!! The room indeed has no windows. No ventilation except 2 small freestanding fans. The room temperature was 28 Celsius. The walls and carpet are visibly damaged and stained which triggered my allergic reaction. The staffs are efficient. The bar has nice sea view seatings. Parking is adequate.

Beyond disappointed. As a life long eastbourne resident hoping for a treat night away this Used to be a great hotel pre Brittania take over. The standard double room was worse than any budget hotel used in 25 days travelling in south east Asia! Smelly, dirty, walls in poor repair state, windows falling apart and never seen a sponge, a mattress from the 80's where the spring coils stick into you. Hotel carpets in corridors were disgusting. Plenty of customers at reception all Complaining. Walked straight out again and demanded refund. Reception staff were lovely and didn't question it ( which says something in itself) Refund still pending however. It also didn't bode well when the reception manager checking us in seems to warn us by reminding us we we have ONLY booked a standard double and that there are no more rooms available should we wish to upgrade.!! What a let down.

Enjoyable stay at The Cavendish. Tried to get a coffee in the hotel about 1000am because I had a cousin visiting and nothing available, so had to go out and find a place. The bar we visited on the Saturday evening and the guy working there on his own was very nice, pleasant, helpful and efficient. Nice stay.
