Great location, but difficult finding parking close to hotel. Car park at Castle Terrace was easy as long as you downloaded app. Nice restaurants close by.

The location of the hotel is excellent for exploring the Old Town. The room was very clean, a little noisy at night, you are above a pub. (The hotel do provide ear plugs!) Room size was cozy but with everything we needed. Staff were great. Breakfast next door was yummy!. Will see definitely be back.

Excellent location opening right onto Grassmarket Square and easy access to all the attractions. Staff were wonderful, rooms were clean and modern. For a tourist, this is a great hotel to stay in (although no parking!). Would highly recommend!

If you want to be in the heart of it all, this is the place to stay! Walkable to Victoria street and the royal mile. You are right downtown so lots of restaurant/pub options right outside hotel. No parking though so consider that in your plans if driving.

Stayed in room 306 very cozy room(small) has everything you need in it has a lift to level 1 then it’s stairs to level 3 sink tap needs some maintenance the operation of it was stiff Toilet could have done with a bleaching had a bit of a whiff even after flushing hotel has a Good Location for the castle all be it up hill going breakfast is in the Irish pub next door which has direct access from the hote

Fantastic location. Desk staff friendly and very helpful. “Snug” room was very tiny. Lift only went to 1st floor and you walked up steps from there. The hotel itself was pretty average, but it It was more affordable than other hotels in area, so I’d consider it again based primarily on location.

Great location and very good staff. “Cosy” room, but newly remodeled bathroom. One quirk - all rooms are not located on floors serviced by elevators, so some amount of trekking and climbing flights of stairs may be required; bear this in mind if you arrive with heavy suitcases or bulky golf club bags. Otherwise quite pleasant.

The room had a leak on the room ceiling, which made the room odor to be unhealthy. The hotel changed me to another room, which was better but outside the room the carpet was all humid and smelled really bad. The hotel provided me with a bottle of wine for the inconvenience. Other than that, the location is perfect, and the hotel staff was good.

Property was centrally located so super accessible to anywhere you wanted to go. However very loud at night. we managed to be put in one of the only couple rooms with no elevator access and they told us through a hallway with a couple stairs as if it was not a lot but then there was two extra flight not mentioned. The room itself was clean but the bathroom smelled like mold and mildew and it had a previous guests hair stuck to the shower walls. Check in and check out were easy.

Hotel is in a great location, within an easy walk of the Royal Mile and lots of great shops and restaurants. Room felt very dusty (really aggravated our allergies). There was an air purifier in the room with a VERY dusty filter that we didn't use. Duvet covers and sheets didn't look super clean. Room temp was hard to regulate (windows didn't open at all). Loved having Biddy Mulligans and coffee shops nearby. Our stay was fine overall.

Central location. Clean. Great staff. Nice creative vibe in the hotel. Complimentary hot beverages in lobby which was nice. Musty smell in the bathroom and no hot water…only lukewarm . ( Asked staff and he said he was not a plumber so not sure anything could be done)

The location was a 10. Right in old town with great restaurants and pubs. Walkable to all the sights. While the staff was very friendly, the room itself was just Ok…the beds were not comfortable and the bathroom shower basin leaked onto the bathroom floor so we had to use our towels to mop up the floor each time we showered. Also, the hotel does not supply conditioner! Just shampoo. Overall, for the room I’d say 7-8.

This hotel is in a good location within central Edinburgh if you’re looking to check off the typical Edinburgh bucket list items. You can walk very easily or grab a bus anywhere, and Waverly station is only a 10 minute walk. As others have mentioned, it can be quite noisy at night as the hotel sits right above a very popular pub. I was in an interior room on the third floor, and I could still hear bass music and shouting at night, even with earplugs in. I could also hear clear conversations from the people staying next to me in the hotel - I could make out almost every word, which is just something to be aware of. I did have trouble sleeping a couple of nights because of these things, and I imagine it would be worse in the Summer season. When I arrived, the top of the fridge was sticky and the windowsill was a bit dirty, but overall there were no major cleanliness issues. The double bed was very lumpy with a ridge in the middle, which was a bit annoying. I was upgraded to a double from the cozy room, which was great size-wise. It was fine for me as a Solo traveler and I think I would have been happy with the cozy room as well. All in all, probably better to stay here if you’re looking to enjoy the Edinburgh night life as a younger traveler. The staff were lovely though and I appreciated the great location.

Perfect location. Clean rooms and nice bedding. Room was very small but met my needs. However, the maze of the hallways and up and down stairs (no elevator) was insane. Had I known, I would have booked a room on the first floor. I was very thankful the staff helped with luggage and navigating the maze to my room. The rates were very expensive for what it was. But I’m realizing hotel rates in Edinburgh are high.

There was a wall on 3 sides of the bed. It was the smallest room I’ve ever stayed in. It was cute and comfy for my 7 year old daughter and I. She loved it, but my mom wouldn’t have liked it. We enjoyed our stay. The location was fantastic! We walked from train station and to the Royal Mile shopping and Castle. There was a fun outdoor market and the Hop On Hop Off Grassmarket stop right in front of hotel. The bar next door was super crowded so they brought the food into the hotel lobby for us to eat, which we had all to ourselves with booths and board games. There’s also lots of other restaurants around. They were friendly and the story about how small it was is fun.

Very friendly staff and a nice room. A bit noisy as located above a pub but all in all a good location. Beds were comfortable, size alright for a shorter stay. Cleaning service forgot to hand out towels - but mistakes will happen. We recommend this place!

I stay here every time I'm in Edinburgh. It's a quirky fun hotel, the rooms are tiny, and getting to the rooms is sometimes like being in a maze. It's a very cool little place right in the heart of old town, walkable to everything.

I liked the location in the heart of a vibrant part of town. The two staff people we met were both friendly and helpful. The hotel is a little similar to a Citizen M (small, bare-bones rooms) but not as new looking or tech-focused, and without the common sitting areas. . It was clean, comfortable and good enough for one night. What I wished was different: we had to take an old elevator up one floor, then wind our way around, take a flight of stairs up to another floor, then wind our way to our room. Narrow halls and many fire doors to pass through. We were on the second floor and could just barely hear the pub below, as well as a few late night partiers on the street. If sensitive to noise, ask about a higher floor, or ask front desk for ear plugs. They keep a supply on hand.

Busy area on the Royal Mile - excellent one night stay after a 3-day Highlands tour. Staff was extra helpful. We left a phone in a taxi and they helped us get in touch with the cab company and driver 🙏.

The location of the hotel is excellent for exploring the Old Town. The room was very clean, a little noisy at night, you are above a pub. (The hotel do provide ear plugs!) Room size was cozy but with everything we needed. Staff were great. Breakfast next door was yummy!. Will see definitely be back.

Our 3 night stay at the Grassmarket was outstanding! The location was excellent - we were able to walk everywhere. Each and every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. If I am in Old Town Edinburgh again, I will stay at the Grassmarket.

The mattress and bed were horrible. Staff said it was no use to change rooms because they were all the same. Untrained and unprofessional staff with no knowledge of what hospitality entails. Tried to charge me for a breakfast I never had. Said they would email my invoice and I'm still waiting...... Very poor experience overall. itsno use to change rooms b

Rude woman at the desk ruined our experience. Mentioned multiple times we were over for an emergency family situation for one night and were 10 mins late checking out and charged us late check out.

Fantastic location. Desk staff friendly and very helpful. “Snug” room was very tiny. Lift only went to 1st floor and you walked up steps from there. The hotel itself was pretty average, but it It was more affordable than other hotels in area, so I’d consider it again based primarily on location.

Staff was awesome I stayed one night and they let me know exactly where I was, gave me tips on where to go and stored my luggage after I checked out for the entire day! Then they let me recharge my phone before taking off for my next stop. Lovely service!

In my many years of travelling I have never met a more professional and compassionate staff than at the Grassmarket hotel. We found ourselves in an unexpected and hard situation and they handled it and supported us beyond what could be expected and we are very grateful. Thank you!

Location, location, location! This hotel’s location seriously can’t be beat. On the corner of the colorful Victoria Street and walking distance to the castle. The grassmarket is a lively area to visit with its pubs and shops.The view of the castle at night is remarkable. If you’re looking for quiet, peaceful nights, though, this might not be the location for you.

This is a great hotel right in the heart of Edinburgh Old Town, adjacent to the famed Victoria Street and the Royal Mile. The rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable. The bathrooms are clean and the water pressure in the shower is great. There are numerous dining options around the hotel. There are lots of sightseeing opportunities in the area, including Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral, and the John Knox House.

The beds were very comfortable and the room had all that we needed. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is located in the heart of Edinburgh within walking distance of most everything and bus transportation is just across the street. Wa erly Train station is within walking distance also.

This hotel is in a good location within central Edinburgh if you’re looking to check off the typical Edinburgh bucket list items. You can walk very easily or grab a bus anywhere, and Waverly station is only a 10 minute walk. As others have mentioned, it can be quite noisy at night as the hotel sits right above a very popular pub. I was in an interior room on the third floor, and I could still hear bass music and shouting at night, even with earplugs in. I could also hear clear conversations from the people staying next to me in the hotel - I could make out almost every word, which is just something to be aware of. I did have trouble sleeping a couple of nights because of these things, and I imagine it would be worse in the Summer season. When I arrived, the top of the fridge was sticky and the windowsill was a bit dirty, but overall there were no major cleanliness issues. The double bed was very lumpy with a ridge in the middle, which was a bit annoying. I was upgraded to a double from the cozy room, which was great size-wise. It was fine for me as a Solo traveler and I think I would have been happy with the cozy room as well. All in all, probably better to stay here if you’re looking to enjoy the Edinburgh night life as a younger traveler. The staff were lovely though and I appreciated the great location.

Grassmarket was a great hotel for our week stay in Edinburgh. Walkable to all attractions and great starting point to explore from. Staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable-shared valuable information and always eager to help. Fun pub with live music attached to the hotel. Highly recommend!

The location of the hotel is great - very walkable and not far from the Royal Mile and other attractions. The rooms were average, nothing outstanding or terrible about them. Did like that they had a fan but would have liked more privacy in the bathroom. I shared a room with my son and at times felt like the frosted door that didn't close all the way wasn't enough. While all of the staff was friendly, there was one we had some trouble communicating with. She used a lot of words to describe breakfast in a way that still made no sense at the end. Please know your continental breakfast here is not what it means in the US.... it means you pay $15 for a hot breakfast and the other items (fruit, pastries, etc.) are then included at no charge. She let us walk away, only to follow us and tell us we had to pay her instead of the restaurant. Why wouldn't you have told us that when we were standing there? Maybe I am nitpicking, it was just odd. All in all, would stay there again now that I know how things work.

Clean and fresh and modern rooms. But we did not expect to have our breakfast in the pub next door. Last day it was a big rugby game on tv with loud volume and people drinking beer and watching at 09 😁 But the bacon was delicious.
