Great location, 15/20 mins walk into town, all flat or 10min bus ride, various options all very frequent and cheap. Staff were amazing couldn't fault them, helpful, knowledgeable and nothing was to much. The room was as you'd expect and although on the street side of the property very quiet. The food was standard to say the least on the first night, but redeemsd itself on the second. Breakfast was well organised and plentiful. The biggest thing for me was the pool and changing rooms, both looked very tired and run down, and could do with alittle tlc, but usable and clean. All in all and excellent hotel, close enough to the city but just far enough out to be away from it all and dead handy for the zoo and Murrayfield. Would recommend.

Very helpful and attentive staff. Parking at the hotel is sparse and difficult for larger vehicles due to many concrete posts but there is parking available in the zoo carpark next door as long as you are out before the zoo opens in the morning and you must have your parking ticket validated at reception.

Really really impressed with the level of friendliness of staff on arrival. Helpful and straight forward. Within 5 minutes of arrival we were in our room which was spotless. Bed well made, warm room especially with how cold it has been. Hotel generally well kept from open reception to restaurant & bar. Spa facilities also very clean & easy to use.

We loved the parking for this hotel as we needed to sort our cases out & this design gave us the room to do this. Reception staff were lovely - Spirit club pool area could do with a refurb & no spa here at all, so this needs to be removed from your description! There was a language barrier in the restaurant & they couldn’t cater for special diet very well at all! Great for the zoo though & hotel parking is free.

Welcome was friendly and helpful. They are still using a 45min slot for using the pool etc and this has to be pre booked. Personally I don't think 45mins is enough time if you want to use all the facilities. The pool area was clean enough but the changing rooms were disgusting. They were dirty and the shower area especially had large piles of hair everywhere which was very off puting.Restaurant is expensive.£14 for a plain burger with chips. Staff were all very helpful but cleanliness reall let it down.

Upon arrival, our bathroom hadn’t been cleaned. We were tired and wanted to shower and go to bed but had to wait for someone to come clean the bathroom and give us clean towels. When we asked for some sort of reduction in our bill, they said only Expedia could do that since we went through that app.

Hotel reception is very bright and modern, room was fine (hadn’t been hoovered) but bathroom was a problem. Mouldy and dirty tiles, chipped tiles on floor, overall it felt like it needed a good clean. Glad it was only a 1 night stay. Overpriced for the room quality which is a real shame at a prime location.

Room very dusty, sneezing a lot, moved the bed slightly and dust build up behind and under bed was unacceptable. It’s not hard to move and vacuum thoroughly!

Not impressed really at nearly £200 we had no Wi-Fi, one large bath towel between us. The smart tv obviously didn’t work due to the fact we had no Wi-Fi. Wouldn’t of cared that much but wife was poorly on the day of the trip so we only went out for a few hours in the afternoon and thought we’d just relax in the hotel. At £195 you expect the minimum or Wi-Fi and a full set of towels. It’s a great example of when hotel prices are inflated in the area you end up massively overpriced stays for average hotels. All in all the hotel is fine, I just wish I didn’t bother on this particular weekend as i don’t feel the hotel/room was worth anymore than £120 max! I work away and stay in hotels most of the week so I know what fair prices are for average hotels

The hotel was basic but clean and well maintained. The staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast had something for everyone including myself (gluten free and vegetarian). Great travel routes onto the city centre which was easy to use and fast. The biggest issue was the beds! The bed was just too small (double) and on wheels so when someone moved the whole bed moved. Didnt sleep well any of the nights which did put a bit of a strain on the holiday .

The rooms need an update. Spots on the carpet, on the sofa and the chair was not fresh. The tub and sink had been mended and it did not look well. Staff very nice, restaurant, reception and hall modern. Overall an ok hotel

We stayed for 3 nights as a family. Our room overlooked the car park which was very noisy at times. We all bought ear plugs after the first night. You can hear everything from the rooms either side and corridor noise. The staff were helpful and breakfast was ok but I wouldn’t recommend it for a stay. Certainly not somewhere for 3 nights away of little sleep and the room was very tight for space.

Friendly check-in staff, we ungraded from a twin to a 'family' room with two double beds, it was well worth it for the extra space, but wardrobe & shelf space wasn't great, just ok for a couple of days stay. Only issue was all the same size rooms faced the same way, so we were overlooking the car park, but doubles or king rooms were all on the other side with great views! Drinks at the bar were a bit expensive but we expected that, breakfasts were good, and they were training new wait staff which is always good. Leaving the car safely parked and walking or getting the bus was one of the reasons we picked this hotel. We didn't use the pool (it was quite small) and the gym looked ok. All in all for a large chain hotel in a busy location it was very good, it seemed to be used by workers, groups and couples, we'd book it again.

Had a lovely stay. Made even better by being guest of the day! Got Prosecco on arrival and a fruit platter as well as an upgrade. Really made my stay special. Staff all friendly and helpful. Room service was delicious too. Thanks again. Will definitely be back.

Booked two standard doubles only to be told I was getting 1 double and 1 twin as they were fully booked and we were late checking in , even though we had left our bags at desk at 12.30 Staff blamed Expedia saying that’s what Expedia booked us so it was not their problem, but my booking confirmation said two standard rooms which are doubles. Reception were defensive from the start so they knew they had given my room away to a holiday inn booking and stuff Expedia bookings. As an IHG member for 13 years this is the first holiday Inn I can say I will never return to. When I asked front desk what have they done to try and help us the answer was NOTHING ,( I have that on video ) she said it’s all Expedia’s fault not ours, this is what you get for booking a cheaper rate !! I will be calling Expedia today and IHG, I stay in aberdeen Holiday Inn a lot and their reception staff would be disgusted with Edinburgh staff,, this hotel has definitely let Holiday Inn down . Black grout in toilet tiles, cracked tiles, hairs in the bath , rusty bath taps, a toilet that sounded like a broken cistern when you flushed it, what a racket it made. Dirty carpets, no USB ports or sockets beside the beds. We had no choice but to take the twin room, reception staff ruined our rugby trip with their no care attitude and dismissive tone. Safe to stay never again booking this hotel.

This hotel is great. Friendly professional staff. They always try to accommodate your needs. Very busy at breakfast time but lots of tables with good selection of food. Service excellent. Kareen very pleasant and always finds a nice place for you to sit Convenient for city centre. Great bus service into city. Lots of parking. Have stayed a few times now.

Lovely helpful staff. Rooms good - everything wd needed. Breakfast set up runs really well. One criticism ... bar staff lovely kind gentle people, but incredibly slow. Need more urgency and to kniw whk to serve next at a busy bar (by looking up and making eye contact). The Sat pm bar manager should have been on it more, supporting and developing her team and on her phone less! Otherwise we really like this hotel and stay regularly.

Comfortable stay. All staff were helpful The only issue is there is a lot of steps at the zoo entrance area and step hills to enter if you struggle with this if you don't drive

My room was very neat tidy clean and comfortable. It was very relaxing room and hotel with inclusions I.e swimming pool, sauna and bar with restaurant . The food was excellent and delivered to my table hot and well presented and without a long wait. The hotel is in a really good location with bus stops right at the entrance of hotel and just opposite which gives great access to Edinburgh city and airport in just 15 minutes with airport buses every 15 minutes from 04.00 to 00.35 daily. Would highly recommend this hotel. The zoo is also beside the hotel which can also be an added bonus. St John’s road full of shops and amenities 5 minute walk. 👍😊

There is an issue with car parking using the zoo car park which ANPR recorded the registration for my car then it was apparently set at wrong date and tried charging me for 2 days instead of 1. Also queue for breakfast isn’t good as there is cold and hot items and one queue which is slow due to length of queue which could be quicker if 2 queues

We decided to stay at the hotel for dinner- big mistake the food was awful as was the service. Breakfast wasn't good either and extremely busy! Coffee was awful. At night someone set off the fire alarm which continues On and off for nearly at hour until 11.30pm

Decent hotel but restaurant let's it down. Breakfast fine but dining in restaurant was v poor. I doubt anything is cooked fresh on site. Reminds me of a chain pub which I don't go to anymore. Way overpriced too. Had starter AND main brought out together. Main went away but probably just stuck under a warm light until we were eventually served it. The crispy chicken sandwich didn't look or taste like chicken and was v chewy so wife left hers. They apologised and was she was offered a complimentary drink from bar ( she's teetotal) so she asked for a latte and was given the smallest one available. Like I've said , hotel is v good but poor food and service in restaurant let's it down v badly.

Stayed here a lot over the years. Always good parking and easy access to the Bus to Town. Rooms basic but peefectly fine and clean. That said, i have noticed a real decline over the last few years in the Breakfast choice. Main items are there, but it just feels cheap and 'mass' catering. Fruit choice is very limited with cut up bananas for example. Cost Cutting no doubt but at these rates is not great.

Stayed several times at this hotel but this stay was not up to scratch. The room was not very comfortable, the bed was particularly uncomfortable. We stayed 2 nights and woke both mornings with aching backs. The room and hotel are looking dated and shabby. We actually heard other guests refer to it as a dump. Whilst we wouldn’t go that far it was not at a standard we would expect for the cost. Breakfast was cold and not enjoyable. With the exception of one female member of staff on the front desk the remaining staff were friendly and helpful. We booked this hotel for its location but didn’t find any reason to want to return.
