The hotel is located on Princes Street in the central area of New Town Edinburgh. It is ideal for shopping, cafes, restaurants and bars, with easy access to museums and other popular places for sightseeing. When I was shown to my room, it was hot & maintenance confirmed the a/c was broken. I was reassigned to a new room. The a/c worked but had a small window facing a shaft. Nevertheless, he room was larger and seemed to be more in line with what I booked. Staff kept it immaculately clean but: The desk lamp stopped working after one day. They replaced it. The hair dryer didn’t work, and housekeeping had to replace that. The shower head belongs in the category of “Chinese Water Torture”. The desk is worn and had evidence of water damage. And the heated towel rack? As chilled as iced champagne on a winter’s evening. The hotel has a bar, café and restaurant. My booking included breakfast and that is held in the restaurant, Le Petite Beefbar. There is a breakfast buffet there which was great. I also had dinner there which was truly excellent with attentive staff to make recommendations for the food and drinks. The hotel is billed as a 5-star property. I recommend it but give it 4 stars due to the room experience.

The hotel is made up of two old buildings that have been (sort of) connected. But going from reception to your room can involve a complicated process of going to one floor, walking across, then going to another floor. Staff were super helpful. Breakfast is excellent and the location can’t be beat. And Edinburgh is such a wonderful place to visit!

Great location, right in the heart of the city. We had a very quiet room, nice decor, with a lovely comfortable bed. Glass of Prosecco after checking in was a nice touch, but they managed to mix up our luggage, delivering one of our cases to my sister’s room in the floor below, and vice versa! Service in the bar was appalling! Before heading out for dinner we stopped for drinks in the bar but nobody came to our table to take an order. After 10 minutes waiting, I went to the bar to order, only to be told it was “table service only”, but then had to wait a further 10 minutes for a waiter to come to our table to take the order, and then an eternity to get served!!! The place was not even busy, so there was absolutely no excuse for the appalling service. When we returned later in the evening with family for a night cap, the service was equally bad. I would recommend not drinking in their bar!! For breakfast my wife and I decided on Eggs Benedict. Hers was perfect, but the muffin on mine was so hard I couldn’t cut it, and ended up trying to saw through it! They charge a hefty price for their breakfast, and based on my experience I’d say it’s not worth it.

We enjoyed ourselves immensely over the past week. Kudus to Nathan, the conceirge, on his wonderful recommendations for food and activities. One area we felt was lacking, was a bar area, to sit and have a drink after a long day. We loved the area and the ease to go places via bus or train. Keep up the good work and Thank you for a wonderful vacation.

Fantastic luxurious hotel with great customer service. Only disappointment was not being able to order bar food after 9pm to go with a drink. Plus no coffee either as machine wasn’t working.

Great weekend stay in central Edinburgh! Hotel is lovely! The lounge access extra charge was well worth the money ! Every member of staff were attentive, helpful and friendly! We will be back!

Very well situated for many of the main attractions in Edinburgh and for bus, tram and train links. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Rooms were comfortable and clean. There was a good variety of breakfast food options. Slight drawbacks were: our room was pretty noisy (lift, fridge motor, other people's doors slamming and people moving about in the room above), the bathroom is rather cramped and presents a challenge to get in and out of the bath particularly the way the shower screen operated and finally to access some areas of the hotel (eg gym) there was a very convoluted route to and from our hotel room.

The hotel was very accommodating with early check-ins. The location is also great. Dinner at their restaurant was also very good. Breakfast, however, was not. We found alternative breakfast places for the rest of our stay. The rooms have carpets which are not hygienic for hotels - mine had a big stain on it. The bathroom had no fan for ventilation, and the room was freezing. I asked for a second duvet and still had to buy a hot water bottle to stay warm enough to sleep well. There were also no drawers in the room other than the tiny ones in the bedside tables. Overall, I don't think this hotel warrants 5 stars or the prices they charge.

1. Location is good 2. Bell boy is proactive when checkin 3. Room is clean basically BUT RATs are running on the ceiling, you can clearly hear the sound of them. 4. Reception staffs are chit chatting loudly in the lobby. 5. Showing water are actually cold while the temperature is 4degree Celsius. Will not come again because of the horrible mouse during the night.

The hotel it’s self is beautiful and the staff are lovely, they really do make an effort. But the room it’s self is slightly dated and wasn’t cleaned to the highest standard, it was quite dusty I sneezed a lot and had very itchy eyes. I wanted to stay at this property for quite some time the outside of the hotel is so beautiful and so are the communal areas but the rooms are basic they didn’t really match my expectations. Nevertheless we had a lovely stay, the location is 10/10, the staff at check in were nice and I would stay again at the right price.

A wonderful hotel and the front of house service was amazing. The first room we were allocated had a sewerage smell and the front of house were quick to move us to a new room. The hotel room was lovely albeit on the very small side. Breakfast was delicious and great quality food

Room had just been painted and had terrible fumes. When asked to switch rooms I was given a room also just painted and uninhabitable because of the strong fumes. Was moved to another hotel (much better) at midnight! Had to walk to the other hotel as the George front desk called a taxi which never came.

Ideal location: safe neighbourhood, easy to access (by Uber, tram, bus, walking), loads of dining options from affordable to high end, lots of cafes, great shopping Lovely architecture/historic property Front of house staff were helpful, enthusiastic and professional My only issue was with weekend housekeeping staff: on Sat they left me no tea/milk for tea and on Sun no one serviced my room at all (and I left a tip every day for the housekeeper!) I called and asked for tea and milk and explained that my room had not been tidied/cleaned and I hope that note was passed on. They sent up a lovely man (I apologize that I have forgotten his name - sweetie black man with a shaved head) with tea and milks and I asked him to catch a large stinging insect in my curtains (bee? hornet? wasp?) This was very important to me as I am deathly allergic to stinging insects and did not have an Epi-pen with me (as it is early spring and I was not expecting to see any).

Excellent choice for in town. Service and accommodations were generous, staff was helpful, property was gorgeous. WiFi was very poor and rooms at the Thistle Street side were noisy all night and morning.

The building was very pretty and the public areas are nice. Breakfast was also good, there is enough to choose from. Location is perfect. We stayed for five nights and was appointed a room with a very noisy A/C, we had to switch it off to be able to sleep. The toilet wasn’t flushing properly as well. The tissue you throw in comes back up. I personally think that this is one of the problem rooms but the one who assigned the rooms should have given it to short staying guests, not to long staying ones. Anyway, we told Reception about it on our second day before breakfast. When we arrived in the evening, they told us that they fixed it. The noise had certainly toned down but not bearable enough for one to sleep through. Also, whatever they did to tone it down made the A/C warmer. The toilet situation was still the same too. There came an apology note afterwards with a bottle of wine from Guest Relations saying that the problem had been solved. Maybe ask the guest first if it was really fixed before sending the card with wine? Also, the thought was nice but lacking in anticipation. I am traveling w/ my 14 year old daughter, why send wine? It was late and we were tired so we just switched off the A/C that night again. On the 3rd day we had an early tour. I informed the Reception that we needed a better solution when we come back that evening. We finally moved to a smaller room but with quieter A/C and a properly flushing toilet on our third night. A bit disappointing stay.

Room and hotel were clean. Good walking distance to main attractions. However, the room was noisy especially at night. Difficult to sleep when you can hear the conversations of everyone walking past the room and noise of the room next door.

Hotel was beautiful and convenient. Rooms are small even the premium ones. The lighting is very dark in the rooms. Hard to put on makeup and in our room if we opened the curtains or blinds it looks right into another apartment/room with people standing right there cooking and eating so zero privacy. Staff wonderful though. Would probably choose another place next time but stll enjoyed our week there.

The hotel was very accommodating with early check-ins. The location is also great. Dinner at their restaurant was also very good. Breakfast, however, was not. We found alternative breakfast places for the rest of our stay. The rooms have carpets which are not hygienic for hotels - mine had a big stain on it. The bathroom had no fan for ventilation, and the room was freezing. I asked for a second duvet and still had to buy a hot water bottle to stay warm enough to sleep well. There were also no drawers in the room other than the tiny ones in the bedside tables. Overall, I don't think this hotel warrants 5 stars or the prices they charge.

Very well situated for many of the main attractions in Edinburgh and for bus, tram and train links. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Rooms were comfortable and clean. There was a good variety of breakfast food options. Slight drawbacks were: our room was pretty noisy (lift, fridge motor, other people's doors slamming and people moving about in the room above), the bathroom is rather cramped and presents a challenge to get in and out of the bath particularly the way the shower screen operated and finally to access some areas of the hotel (eg gym) there was a very convoluted route to and from our hotel room.

Sadly we didn’t have the best stay this time. Have stayed multiple times but this time our sleep was very poor. The thermostat in the room wasn’t regulating the temperature so the room was stifling. We were facing a cobble street that was horribly noisy (just the time of year). But then added to that was the experience in the hotel lobby. I have a disability so mobility is a challenge. I sat down with a lot of shopping bags and asked if I could order a coffee (as I had seen others being served) and was told it was a hotel lobby and if I wanted a drink I would have to get it myself. I explained that I had a disability and that I would appreciate some assistance, and was told the bar was just along the corridor so I should manage. So I just went back to my room. Really disappointing experience on this occasion. I phoned reception about the heat and noise on the Friday night but I felt the receptionist was distracted as I didn’t have any follow up. Absolutely appreciate how busy the hotel was and with Christmas parties on staff were stretched but not the stay I had hoped for at all.

Tomas and his staff were so wonderful in helping to coordinate our return to Edinburgh and the Intercontinental Hotel for a second time. He made things feel personal and not just a business transaction. Would recommend this hotel without reservation.

This is my third stay here in 2 years and the stuff is exceptional- they treat me like returning family. Service and friendliness is above and beyond! Not to mention the most excellent location for exploring Edinburgh. Close to great restaurants and shopping yet also quiet and reserved.

Not as good as it used to be. Have been staying here every year at the same time for the last 8 years. Staff are fantastic and very helpful but it is the little things that let it down. Had to change rooms because the first room was so small there was no place to put the luggage rack for our suitcase. But reception remedied that for us. Room service menu not in room and not working on the TV so had to get a copy delivered to room then when we ordered there was somethings that were on the menu that they no longer serve ??? Room service arrived with no bottle opener and part of the order missing. It is a lovely hotel, ideally situated but just misses the finer detail and level of service for the price of the rooms. That said I will be back again next year too :-)

When we first got there, check-in went well. The woman informed us it was her last day. Weird. So we went up to our room and we noticed there was a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. We thought how wonderful because we had told them at the front desk that it was our 35th anniversary. After two minutes of being in the room, we hear a knock at the door and there’s a young kid they’re telling us the wine was delivered to the wrong room and he needs to take it back. We laughed so hard because it was so low class. Five star hotels do not do that. When we did order wine glasses for a pre-anniversary celebration it took them forever to deliver them. I called again and they brought them right away, but said the wine opener will be delivered by someone else. When the wine opener finally arrived, the young man explained that they are very understaffed. Yeah no kidding. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable. Inexplicably, the room only had one chair. Also, for some reason, they left vacuum cleaners in the hallway, which just looked trashy. That said the staff was very nice for the most part. I love the Byredo bath products too. Anyway, I think an Intercontinental can do better than this.

Our second time staying here and The George did not disappoint! The customer service is exemplary. The concierge named Kevin was helping us get tickets to the Castle but there was a glitch in the system. He apologized and sent us to the BIG RED BUS a few blocks away to try and get them. We were able to do so with no problem. But we were surprised to look up and see Kevin jogging toward us to tell us he was able to fix the problem! We were three blocks away and he tracked us down to make sure we were taken care of. Now that's service! We had a slight problem with the air in the room and without asking to be moved, the head of customer service, Hannah, had us moved to a nicer room the next day and delivered a special treat too! Love this hotel!

Great location, right in the heart of the city. We had a very quiet room, nice decor, with a lovely comfortable bed. Glass of Prosecco after checking in was a nice touch, but they managed to mix up our luggage, delivering one of our cases to my sister’s room in the floor below, and vice versa! Service in the bar was appalling! Before heading out for dinner we stopped for drinks in the bar but nobody came to our table to take an order. After 10 minutes waiting, I went to the bar to order, only to be told it was “table service only”, but then had to wait a further 10 minutes for a waiter to come to our table to take the order, and then an eternity to get served!!! The place was not even busy, so there was absolutely no excuse for the appalling service. When we returned later in the evening with family for a night cap, the service was equally bad. I would recommend not drinking in their bar!! For breakfast my wife and I decided on Eggs Benedict. Hers was perfect, but the muffin on mine was so hard I couldn’t cut it, and ended up trying to saw through it! They charge a hefty price for their breakfast, and based on my experience I’d say it’s not worth it.

The hotel is located on Princes Street in the central area of New Town Edinburgh. It is ideal for shopping, cafes, restaurants and bars, with easy access to museums and other popular places for sightseeing. When I was shown to my room, it was hot & maintenance confirmed the a/c was broken. I was reassigned to a new room. The a/c worked but had a small window facing a shaft. Nevertheless, he room was larger and seemed to be more in line with what I booked. Staff kept it immaculately clean but: The desk lamp stopped working after one day. They replaced it. The hair dryer didn’t work, and housekeeping had to replace that. The shower head belongs in the category of “Chinese Water Torture”. The desk is worn and had evidence of water damage. And the heated towel rack? As chilled as iced champagne on a winter’s evening. The hotel has a bar, café and restaurant. My booking included breakfast and that is held in the restaurant, Le Petite Beefbar. There is a breakfast buffet there which was great. I also had dinner there which was truly excellent with attentive staff to make recommendations for the food and drinks. The hotel is billed as a 5-star property. I recommend it but give it 4 stars due to the room experience.

I hadn't stayed here in years. So far it has been a great and relaxing stay. The room is well appointed with things to make your stay relaxing. My favourite thing is the air conditioning as cool temps in the room can be very relaxing indeed. The petit bar restaurant is also very good. Nice staff too. Good decor in the whole place. Location is great if you want to do sightseeing or stay around the castle and art museums around Princes Street. Also very close to the train station. Recommended stay. You will find it very relaxing.

The hotel is made up of two old buildings that have been (sort of) connected. But going from reception to your room can involve a complicated process of going to one floor, walking across, then going to another floor. Staff were super helpful. Breakfast is excellent and the location can’t be beat. And Edinburgh is such a wonderful place to visit!

This is a beautiful hotel in an historic building in New Town Edinburgh. The staff was friendly and helpful. The service was impeccable. We ate at both the Le Petit Beefbar and Burr and co and enjoyed them both. The hotel is near Rose Street with tons of restaurants and Pubs. We liked that it was a relatively short walk to the noisy and busy Royal Mile, but it is in a much more quiet area. Highly recommended!

Nice hotel. The breakfast was a very good buffet style breakfast and you could also order some items from a menu definitely worth it. Staff were all super nice. Got lucky with early check in at 9am which was super appreciated. 5/5

And the heated towel rack? As chilled as iced champagne on a winter’s evening. The hotel has a bar, café and restaurant. My booking included breakfast and that is held in the restaurant, Le Petite Beefbar. There is a breakfast buffet there which was great. I also had dinner there which was truly excellent with attentive staff to make recommendations for the food and drinks. The hotel is billed as a 5-star property. I recommend it but give it 4 stars due to the room experience.

We loved our stay at The George Hotel in Edinburgh. We were able to walk to the train, to Old Town, and to shopping/dining in New Town. Breakfasts were excellent. Staff were warm and gracious. Comfortable bed, thoughtful amenities and BBC Scotland on the radio. Lovely holiday decorations as well. Highly recommended.

Perfect stay from check-in to check-out and certainly helped by a better standard of room than our last stay (previous one was small, lacked any element of being special). Reception staff helpful, friendly and welcoming, as were the dining staff. Room and bathroom very clean and comfortable. Points to mention for hotel awareness are 1) breakfast, although really good variety, could be warmer and 2) bed pillows full of air rather than fullness. Other than that this was a really enjoyable stay and we hope to repeat again in the future.

We enjoyed our stay, the hotel was very good the staff were very nice and friendly. We decided to dine on our second night in the hotel, unfortunately we had a bad experience with what we chose in the Le Petit beef bar. We chose the chateaubriand but unfortunately it was not like chateaubriands we have had in the past which have been tender, medium rare and full of flavour! This one was large pieces of meat which lacked flavour and was chewy! very disappointing. In my opinion not like tenderloin at all! The The person who handled our complaint was non committable but offered to refund half of the price of the chateaubriand which we accepted.

The hotel was very accommodating with early check-ins. The location is also great. Dinner at their restaurant was also very good. Breakfast, however, was not. We found alternative breakfast places for the rest of our stay. The rooms have carpets which are not hygienic for hotels - mine had a big stain on it. The bathroom had no fan for ventilation, and the room was freezing. I asked for a second duvet and still had to buy a hot water bottle to stay warm enough to sleep well. There were also no drawers in the room other than the tiny ones in the bedside tables. Overall, I don't think this hotel warrants 5 stars or the prices they charge.

This is a beautiful hotel in an historic building in New Town Edinburgh. The staff was friendly and helpful. The service was impeccable. We ate at both the Le Petit Beefbar and Burr and co and enjoyed them both. The hotel is near Rose Street with tons of restaurants and Pubs. We liked that it was a relatively short walk to the noisy and busy Royal Mile, but it is in a much more quiet area. Highly recommended!

Hotel is downtown and I was worried that it would be noisy but it was not when I was there even though my room was near the elevator, on ground level and the George street visible through the window. Not sure if this was due to the time of year I was there (mid-May) or not. Hotel seemed really pricey for what for what you got. Staff was polite but not particularly forthcoming when I asked questions about how to get from the hotel to some of the sights. Bathroom was ok - shower was in a soaking type tub (good to have long legs to climb in it), not particularly well designed (narrow shelf for toiletries, hook for hanging things on next to the toilet). Otherwise, the room was comfortable and in a very central location but not sure I'd recommend it.
