Leonardo Royal Hotel Edinburgh

Parking was off site at train station. Close to shopping. Rooms were clean.

The hotel itself is comfortable and the service is good - we made use of the efficient bag storage after checkout for example. However next door to the hotel is significant building work which may take some time (6month-1year?) to complete and was noisy from 8am on a weekday morning - this may not suit someone requiring a lie in!

Great gym facility

Room had a double bed and a twin. Nice view of Calton Hill and the Waverley train station. Walkable to all sights. Nice fitness center and restaurant.

In my opinion, stay at the Haymarket hotel. Here's why: We had a lovely 7 days in Edinburgh, and there's some things you need to know about this particular hotel and Edinburgh as a whole. Edinburgh is very well interconnected, for £5 a day (or less for bundle purchases) you can use unlimited trams and buses for the day within the city. As convenient as this hotel is with it's location just behind the royal mile, we could have easily taken the tram or bus daily, or for a couple pennies taken the train from haymarket to Waverley which seems to run every 5 minutes. The other downside to this hotel in comparison is the car parking situation. At Haymarket you can park for £10 a day for residents. At this hotel there is no parking but they can offer you 20% off the parking at Waverley station (which is £24.50 per day before the discount!!) and there are no affordable nearby alternatives. The only fault I had with the staff was the housekeeping, it may just have been we were one of the last rooms however we found that the housekeeping was regularly around 3-4pm for our room, meaning you could spend all day out from 8am, come back after a long 7 hours and your room hadn't been attended yet, seems odd that it's beyond the check in time but I don't work in hospitality and there may be reasons for this! Regardless I cannot fault the hotel, we were made to feel welcome, the service was exceptional at all times. However, you'd receive the same service at a cheaper price in Haymarket

The staff was great.. the mantainance of the rooms and elevators not that good.. The Gym is really good Really good location

The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and the location was pretty good but if you have a car or need parking - there is nothing at the hotel. You need to pay for overnight parking around the corner and down the street at a public parking lot. Not very convenient when you have luggage but old Edinburgh is so cramped and well, old that there's not much of an option. Just be prepared!

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Leonardo Royal Hotel. Staff were very friendly and so were the bartenders. Very hard working young group of people. The gym was one of the best we’ve been to in a hotel complete with two Peloton bikes which were in good condition. We would definitely stay here again!

Stayed for 4 nights was a gorgeous hotel and right in the middle of everything, so it was very convenient. Clean, amazing food, great gym facilities and fast room service. Would definitely recommend:)

Room view of the bins and building works. Toilet seat dirty on arrival. Second day had to wash glasses and cups as missed. Two tiny biscuits in the room - why bother at all. Monarch of the Glen box of biscuits costs £7.00 at M&S. This hotel gave two coffee sized biscuits each day. Would be funny if not so sad.

Very poor sleep due to bed and pillow quality. Room had a very strong smell of cleaning fluids that didn’t go away. Lots of building work going on around the hotel which hadn’t been brought to our attention. Bins in courtyard below room were moved around constantly from 6.30am and echo around the building. Breakfast was one of the best ones I have had in a hotel for a while with quality products. Service was great too. Hotel is in a great location

Excellent Hotel. Friendly Staff. Very clean. Easy access to importance places.

From the moment we arrived we were overwhelmed by the overpowering aroma of air freshener in every room of the hotel. The bed was very damp we didn't get no sleep, we tried to complain to the management. They didn't care all they were willing to do was move us to another room, which did not resolve the problem at all. It made my wife and I have throat infections, trouble breathing asthma attack all because of the overwhelming stench of air freshener. We were booked for our three night stay, we ended up only staying one, and we were forced to move to a different Hotel. It categorically ruined our wedding anniversary, and we will never be coming back I would advise anyone else who. suffers with asthma or any other breathing condition to avoid.

This is our second stay at the Leonardo and everything was wonderful. Room was clean and spacious. Nthe staff is friendly and professional.

Room smelt musty. There was construction work outside my room which started early, had i been aware of this I would have stayed elsewhere.

We had a dirty towel, the room needs some attention in bathroom the ventilation in bathroom wasn’t working right have a shower everything soaked condensation, comfy bed tho.

Location is good. Room was tired, carpet was dirty, as was the duvet cover. Staff on check in and check out mediacore, not welcoming and didnt ask how our stay was.

Location is great! We had a big and comfortable room. The only thing , we did not like, the room was dark, we even asked a desk lamp, but it did not help a lot.

The beds and bedding were first class. I’d stay there over and over just for that. Breakfast was very good, although expensive. No drawers of any kind to put clothes in. Bathroom fine, but again nowhere to put anything.

First night our room had no air conditioning and could not switch rooms as they were booked. Suffered in HOT room and got very little sleep.

Excellent location, comfortable beds, good sized rooms and friendly staff. Bathrooms nice but small, overall not much drawer/storage space to unpack. Good value.

Room was on the third floor. Main problem was noise from the street as windows very thin. Mattress not the most comfortable.

The climate control was good (quiet but effective), the room was quiet, the bed was comfortable. The location was great, almost across the street from the main train station.

Upon arrival, staff were great at greeting us and quickly gave us the key to our room. We were on the fifth floor - opposite us were building works which did wake us up at 7AM on the Saturday (which was not great). The rooms do join into other rooms; this proved an inconvenience as we could clearly hear conversations in the adjoining room as all that separated us was an internal door. For the price, the minimum I would expect is privacy. Cleaning staff were great at restocking the room but did not change the sheets during our stay. When they changed the towels, they swapped a body towel for a hand towel. Check out was nice and easy with the hotel holding our bags. To summarise: Generally good service. Poor experience with the room itself due to not knowing that we would be in a connecting room (lack of privacy). Great location - conveniently close to the station. Expensive for what it is when compared to experiences at other hotels. I would likely not stay again.

Staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Rooms are small compared to other double superior rooms I have stayed in and bed is definitely a small double not the standard double. Hotel location is great,2mts from train station and very easy walking distance to all attractions. Hotel is quite, they were very helpful at reception when I requested a quiet room as there is some construction work at the moment, they also gave me a voucher for a complimentary drink due to it being my birthday. Hotel is lovely and clean and very accommodating with your luggage, holding it free even after checking out, which is helpful if you are wanting to do a bit more site seeing. I have no faults for the hotel but I would like to make a suggestion, I feel the bar area would look more people friendly if the bars used for decor and the huge wooden and glass block piece of furniture were removed, as there didn't seem a purpose to the huge furniture piece blocking the guests view to the bar and staff and would also encourage a friendlier rappor with guests and bar staff? Only a suggestion.I would stay at the hotel again and yes I would recommend it.

Loved this hotel. Brilliant location, so close to Waverley Station, wish we’d got the train to Edinburgh! Greeted at hotel with Prosecco and a complimentary upgrade. Room was spotless. Free bottled water, replenished, daily. Water, biscuits and fruit in reception everyday. Very convenient location, easy to get to everything. I would recommend asking for a room that isn’t adjoining to another room as we could hear the person next door, snoring, their alarm and coughing but that is the only downside of our stay there. Highly recommended and would stay there again.

Helpful at Reception to accommodate an earlier check in and store my case in the interim. Offered a refreshment at check in too. Very comfortable and welcoming seating area in foyer. Room was fab. Clean and comfortable with mod cons and amenities. I didn’t use bar or restaurant as only there 1 night. Will be back.

The staff was very helpful to a bunch of het lagged travelers. We especially enjoyed the omlette maker and the front desk staff.

This hotel was amazing. The staff was top notch! We stayed there for three nights. The morning after our first night, we were awakened at 8:00 by the sound of construction next door. Will at the front desk was able to move us to a quieter room for the rest of our stay. The location was close to the Royal Mile and so convenient to everything. And the breakfasts were delicious with a lot of variety. We felt ready to tour Edinburgh!

Started at check in, booked in with another couple. They had a large room with a view on the 6th floor, was given Prosecco on arrival. We were given a room for a disabled person, no offer of Prosecco. Asked reception to change from disabled room as it felt very uncomfortable. Told, the hotel was fully booked but after practically begging was given the smallest room ever on the first floor but felt underground and in the basement. The building work outside the room was so loud and there were men sat having a break. View was sooo bad. Only one towel so had to ask. Staff very unhelpful. Had a random member of staff just walk straight into our room when we were getting changed. When we said to the receptionist on check out that our stay was so disappointing compared to our friends she completely ignored us and said “thank you, have a nice day” we paid £767 for a 2 night stay that was not worth the money!

Front Desk James and Duty Manager Greig went above and beyond to make our stay here enjoyable. Rooms were clean and quiet, and the free bottles of water were a nice extra touch. The breakfast host (didn't catch her name) was also friendly and efficient.

I feel that the place was a bit pricey, ALOT of construction going on at the hotel. The Breakfast was amazing though!! Called for a wake up call and they called 3 hours early, apologized and then never called back at the correct time. Good thing our Flight was delayed!

Despite the price which, like that of all Edinburgh hotels in August, was much higher than usual, i actually thought that it was worth every penny thanks to the friendliness and the professionalism of the staff in the bar, the restaurant and at reception. One of my favourite hotels!

The hotel itself was very nice and very convenient to the Glasgow Waverley train station. There was a lot of surrounding street and building construction with noise and dirt. Travelers thinking that the hotel is just one block off the Royal mile should know that the one block is up a steep slope (with steps).

Very nice hotel only 3 min from the waverly train station and close to all the attractions. Hotel staff is very friendly specially the waiters at the breakfast counter . Very clean and spacious room . I highly recommend

Perfect, central location for a stay in Edinburgh! Easy walking distance from where the bus from the airport drops you at Waverley Bridge. Directly across from Waverley Station if you are doing any train travel. We were able to walk to all the attractions from Dean Village, The Royal Mile, to beyond Edinburgh Castle. Our room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Staff were friendly. Plenty of restaurants close by. If ever back in Edinburgh, would definitely stay again!

This property is very close to the train station, walkable distance. This property easily assesses old Edinburgh.

Conveniently located one block off High Street and across from Waverly train station!

Location is very convenient to the Royal Mile and the hotel itself was of good quality, good room service, but the construction behind and rail station in front make for a relatively unscenic location.

Just a lot of construction on and around the premises.

Great welcome with a glass of Prosecco on checkin. Breakfast was definitely the highlight with friendly attentive staff, highlighted by the fab chef making omelettes.

Very convenient location, minutes walk from Waverley and Royal Mile. Food in the restaurant leaves room to be desired so I would recommend sticking to simple, hotel food and don't expect much.

Always a wonderful stay. Kym provided amazing service and a very warm welcome at breakfast and the omelettes are perfection

Hotel was beautiful and clean inside, not much to look at from the outside as it is well hidden in a small side street. Great location, halfway up the royal mile/high st. Staff were great, I needed a toiletry item and they brought it to my room with no charge. Breakfast was a buffet but a very good buffet. It did get busy from about 9-10 but still enjoyable. Also there was an omelette station for freshly made omelettes.

Excellent location, room was a good size and the beds were very comfortable. We had pre-booked a table in the restaurant five days before our two day stay for our second night and when we went for dinner we were told the restaurant was closed due to staff shortage and we were put into the busy bar area to eat but didn't feel comfortable there and felt very let down that no one from the hotel let us know earlier in the day this, I wasn't impressed to say the least and we didnt stay to eat in the bar! Disappointing as it was a special occasion and had to make other plans quickly. Overall no complaints about the hotel other than communication of restaurant bookings.

Property was in a great location. Only thing I would say is that hotel restaurant needs better menu selection and to actually have the items that are on the menu.
