Great Location next to high street and next to train station good restaurant in house for dinner and breakfast , rooms are clean , average condition but good overall for stay

Ok for one night. Easy check in. Good with free parking. Breakfast expensive and not worth the bucks.

Well located in Fort William, a good jumping off point for the Great Glen Way or ending point for the West Highland Way. Checking was good, was able to check in early. But it looked like the small desk could get overwhelmed easily. Breakfast was a full buffet with all the usual items in the UK. There is a bar for convenience, and a restaurant I did not eat in. Property is dated. Still fine for what and where it is. It is very close to the beginning of the Great Glen Way, so convenient if that is your plan.

It is worth noting that we had mobility issues, requiring a walker, and the Alexandra provided a wonderful accommodation to meet our needs. The room (in particular the bathroom, with grab bars and a roll-in shower), the lobby, the dining areas, and the hotel in general were all easily accessible (despite the the hotel apparently having been built long before these things were considered important). The minor exceptions were that the room was a long ways from the elevator, with a couple of doors that were a tad awkward to open, and the hotel entrance with a ramp, i.e no steps, was around the side and through the restaurant. Minor, but worth noting. The hotel was an easy walk to downtown Fort William, and easily accessible to the train station and grocery store. The room was comfortable, and large enough to move around in easily. Dinner was wonderful and charming, and the provided breakfast had a large selection of foods in a well conceived dining area (we were able to get in, get our food, and put the walker so it was out of the way). Parking initially seemed a bit of an issue, but the staff actually guided us to park right by the front door. Regardless of whether it was an “official” parking space, they gave their blessing to leave the car there. We would happily recommend the Alexandra to any one visiting the area, including folks with mobility issues.

dirty bathrooms, overpriced, poor food, and music playing in the bar so loud you could hear it three floors up. Avoid if possible

Room was clean and comfortable The property is dated and the hallways are dark, with old signs and very low ceilings and have motion sensitive lighting that turns off as soon as you stop moving. Can be disconcerting will waiting for elevator and light go off. Room was a very pleasant surprise . It was clean, spacious and bathroom has been recently updated. Location is convenient- easy walk to restaurants and shops.

I had stayed here before. Would love A/C, but I understand it is an older place.

Very convenient for the railway station....Bistro food good quality and reasonable. Just what you want for a couple of nights.

A very run down tired looking hotel with scaffolding at the front entrance. The lift was not working so had to walk up four flights of stairs with luggage and no apologies from reception staff. We had booked a superior double but there was nothing superior about the decor or the room apart from the bed being a decent size. The bathroom needs redecorating and there was an unpleasant smell of drains. The whole place needs money spending on it and won’t be staying there again.

Very disappointing experience. The carpets were unclean and the room dusty. Old and run down. Property isn't maintained well and the rooms are small. Not value for money. Basic amenities like a dental kit weren't available. No drinking water, No AC and the room gets very warm and stuffy.

Great location in Fort William! We were thrilled to found it available but seemed to be too good to be true. The carpet was shredded worn down to the netting in high traffic areas. There were mould spores on the bathroom ceiling, the tub drain needed to be cleared because a short shower left the tub almost completely full. The wifi didn’t reach to our room and when I inquired about another option, reception promptly told me to “turn my phone off and on,” as I’m in my 20s that gave me a little chuckle. The overall room was run down - not just outdated. The bathroom ceiling and walls have cracked. The photos show a quaint older hotel with character, the reality was unclean and rundown. Very disappointed

The elevator made a few loud dings every time it stoped at the floor day and night. The hallway lights are on motion sensors and they don’t even stay on long enough to get your key in the lock and get the door to your room open before going out. Housekeeping had wiped out the inside of the coffee cups but hadn’t washed them as there was lipstick and coffee stains on the outside of the cup. There were other peoples hairs and dust in the corner of the bathroom. There was live music that I could hear on the 4th floor playing until midnight, luckily I didn’t have to get up too early in the morning.

Hotel in need of repair. Overall cleanliness was lacking. Staff didn't seem to want to be there. Very disappointed and glad it was only one night. Very pricey for a very basic room.

Very small room. Toilet had no extraction fan or window. Shower was dirty in bits. Bits fell of tap in the sink (I put it back together). Had to ask for more toilet paper. At 7am no hot water for a shower. Breakfast wasnt a patch on the twice i had been to this hotel before.

They placed me in a room directly over the bar where a live band was playing and I could hear actual conversations as well as the loud booming music. The walls are so thin. The bed was nice, staff were friendly.

Really worn and dated. I was in room 205 and could hear the lift squeal through the wall every time it was used. The bed was really hard. The plumbing was so loud when I flushed the toilet. I had to leave at 6am and felt really sorry for anyone in rooms next to, above our below mine it must have woken them up. £72 for a single room as described for 1 night seems too expensive, excludes breakfast.

The room was clean enough, but the “superior double” wasn’t superior. The hotel is showing its age and needs a refresh. The walls in our room were very thin and I could hear next door showering in the early hours like they were in our bathroom - we could also hear them on the toilet. We were above the bar, so on the first night we were treated to the noise of the entertainment / karaoke until 10:30pm. As stated the room was clean enough,, it was just dated. The location is very good for the town centre or the train station. Parking was ok but a few large potholes to navigate in the car park and spaces are limited. Staff were all pleasant and helpful. We were £172 per night with no breakfast it’s very expensive for what it is. Would I stay here again? Not by choice.

Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing. The room had poor air quality, the beds were quite hard, and the water pressure was very low. Breakfast offered few options and the overall quality was poor. The only positive was the convenient location.

Good location. My room was a bit old but still had the necessary things. It was very noisy though, a generator(?) house in front of the window was making a lot of noise which you could hear with windows closed as well. The twin bed was a bit small.

Our room was clean but the decor and bathroom facilities were a little dated. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good choice at breakfast. We enjoyed a meal in The Bistro. Plenty of room in the bar and other sitting areas around the reception area.

Alexandra's is a charming building with quaint scottish carpet throughout, the staff work hard to make it a lovely place in spite of its age and wear. Breakfast was good. Our room was quite warm but the staff brought a fan. A complaint is the bed was very dippy in the middle making it an uncomfortable night.

Clean room and powerful shower. Good array of teas and coffee in the room . Clean and comfortable room but dated decor and carpets . Very friendly staff and very good breakfast .

Hotel is ok, dated. Old style keys, bathtub rather than shower stall, aged room. Internet was good in room, but wifi was very unreliable in the lobby/lounge area. 6 out of 10

Hotel was in a great location, plenty of shops, bars and eating places nearby. Our room was ment to be a superior double, the outlook was awful looking into other room windows, was a closed courtyard type, if you could call it that, bird droppings and feathers everywhere, not what I was expecting whatsoever from a superior room. Room was small in size, no extractor in bathroom so it was extremely uncomfortable when having a shower, the bed was comfortable and large, duvet just about covered the mattress, pillows were so uncomfortable, hardly any filling in them. Bar staff were friendly, front desk staff were quite sour. The ‘shop’ turned out to be two cabinets at entrance to bar area, which was fine but front desk staff didn’t have access to any of the items as it was the responsibility of someone outwith hotel who only came on a Tuesday apparently, so no use to us as we were there Friday-Monday. Hotel was quiet and reasonably clean so that was good. We will return to Fort William but unfortunately won’t stay at this hotel again sorry.

Hotel chosen for its proximity to the train station, this was the only plus point. The downstairs smelt of food. We had dinner at the Bistro on one evening, a bottle of unchilled lukewarm wine served in a wine cooler, we had to add ice to the glass. Lacklustre staff who are only interested in the coach parties that provide alot of their business. TV in room not tuned in, receptionist defensive and suggested we swop to another room (unsure if any other tv would work) but advised it wouldnt be a room of the same 'standard' we had paid for. Dining room is filled with circular tables from the coach parties, they were being set up for the evening meal while breakfast was still taking place. It felt like we had stumbled into a conference not a hotel restaurant. The corridors to the rooms are long and there are steps. Room 219 had a revamped bathroom, TV was working after the 2nd day (we stayed for 3 nights). Mattresses on beds were 'tired' and need replacing. Curtain pole would benefit from some polish to help with closing the curtains. Hotel allows luggage to remain at the hotel after checkout (our train journey was at 6pm) but it remains in reception in view of the front door, there is no secure left luggage facility. I am sure there are hotels in Fort William that enjoy having guests to stay and want to make their holiday as enjoyable as they can, sadly The Alexandra isn't one of them.

Reception staff were brilliant.

Shower did not work, wife and daughter had to use shower in our other room and walk back and forth between rooms. Reported on first evening of stay and was assured we would receive a bill reduction for this room. Upon check out this was not done and after leaving contact details as requested have not received a call back or email as promised. After an otherwise good stay and lovely staff it’s left a sour taste.

The room had no hot water for a shower in the morning, I reported this to desk clerk @6:45 and he didn't seem to care. I skipped breakfast and just left at that point, as I didn't have any faith in the service to follow. The room was noisy with a continual water pipe noise from walls, and the alarm light flashed bright enough to light the room once your eyes adjusted. The pint I ordered was off (replaced - thank you), the room I ate in was cold. The hotel is not somewhere I could recommend

The reception staff totally ignored us at check in, choosing to chat with a new hire. Felt totally unwelcome.

First time at the Alexandra hotel but won’t be our last, very nice receptionist who gave us a lovely spacious loch view room, thank you Elaine , excellent onsite Bistro which we tried, good food and value, location could not be better being right in the middle of town, breakfast was the best we had on our 4 night in different hotels Highland trip, great choice and quality, had a pleasant comfortable stay on our last night before heading south. Definitely recommend 😁

I had a great stay. Staff were friendly and helpful

The room size is fine for a solo traveler but the electrical outlet was no where near the bed since its an old fashioned style room. Do not expect modern appliances to be easily accessed from the outlets. Sink is in the main room instead of bathroom. Tub was brand new and looked recently replaced, but nothing around it was updated like panels or plumbing. If you like the historic feel and just need a place to crash, its fine. Very close to lots of restaurants and just across street from train station.

Enjoyable trip, very good price, The room was slightly tired but for the price was really good although if staying for a holiday longer period would upgrade my room. A clean and nice hotel and would definitely recommend. Furthermore in a great location in Fort William with parking and easily accessible.

Hotel was a gem back in the day, it’s pretty dated but that just added to the character. It was directly across from the train station and then next to the shops and restraints on Main Street.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, and breakfast and dinner were good, but the hotel is in need of refurbishment and decoration. Our bedroom had only single glazing so the window was covered in condensation for our entire stay. The hotel is very conveniently located for the railway station.

The location of the hotel was perfect for our trip to the Jacobite train and was conveniently located near various shops and restaurants. We had a lovely stay and greatly enjoyed our trip!

Exceptionally well located for railborne arrivals, though the main road is something of an obstacle. The building has been much expanded, to its architectural detriment; once through the revolving door it feels serviceable rather than grand. The welcome is warm; the management professional.

Bedroom 411 although very clean the curtain is ripped and it’s quite dated. Had a meal the first night and the food was not very hot in fact steak pie was still cold on the middle would of been nice if served hot. Breakfast would also have been much better if it was hot the only morning it was hot was Thursday as we went down 10 Mins earlier 7::50

Hotel has seen better days. The rooms and public areas could do with a fresh-up. Especially the doors to the wet areas (toilet, bathroom). Our room was difficult to lock as that needed maintenance too. The staff was not able to fix it during our stay. Good and comfortable beds though. Breakfast area was huge so a big buffet to choose from but no egg station. No breakfast menu or freshly made coffee or tea available, only a machine.

Nice room but rather indifferent welcome. Rather bland breakfast for the high price paid. Basically a coach tour hotel with high prices for indivybookings but you get a coach tour group breakfast. OK place with a nice enough room and convenient for the station but wouldn't return if I could avoid it.
