Great location. Lovely hotel. Easy parking that’s reasonably priced. I loved the breakfast. Room service menu needs improvement. I would recommend it and revisit.

Lovely hotel, very clean but slightly dated rooms. The brasserie was very nice for drinks. We had continental breakfast delivered to the room, it was not good at all, porridge was inedible, not enough milk for cereal, we had to call for more, minimal pastries also and no toast. The spa lacking. £20 per person to use what I can only describe as a sink disgusted as a foot spa, nothing more than a sauna, steam and salt room.

I don’t expect to stay at a 5 star hotel in a junior suite and be expected to use the spa facilities which were average at best with one sauna not working

Beautiful suite and amenities. Service is always second to none starting with the long time doormen. Bar is beautiful. Meal was first in class. A fave hotel for certain. Enjoyed high tea as well.

Ideal location and the shopping centre car park had direct access into the hotel. All staff were welcoming and friendly. Lovely spacious room. Nice to have fresh milk in the mini bar rather than long life. A couple more herbal teas would have been good rather than just 1 green and 1 peppermint.

Good location, excellent staff, dated bathroom, small bath, and spa not open during 2 of the 3 days we visited - this wasn't something we were made aware of upon booking!

Bar, restaurant and other facilities closed due to a function on that evening, received a phone call the day before my reservation informing me of this, however; wouldn’t give a refund because that is their policy. Reason I booked in the first place was to use these facilities, if I’d have known prior to booking, I would have chose a different location.

Really good hotel right in the heart of downtown chester. Convenient parking garage to get right into the hotel. We had an issue with the AC in our room and got sent to a suite which didnt suck! Very attentitive and helpful staff

4 wall and flat roof view from room window, if had known this i won't of booked this hotel,specially the mount CHARGED for it not worth money. Ac air vents in room not been cleaned in along time, fluff and dirt. Water leak from side of bath when showering. Plus room fridge had to be replaced as wasn't cold only hot temp.

This is a very grand hotel. It looks amazing when you first arrive. However it’s not worth the high price to stay there. Upon looking closer it’s in serious need of an upgrade. The wallpaper and carpets are heavily stained throughout the hotel. Our room (338) was very dark, with a lack of lights and electric plug sockets. The bathroom was dirty. The grime on the bathroom door and round skirting boards was unpleasant. The shower over the bath was dangerous to use, it need some type of slip mat. The positives.. the location. You can’t get any more central than this. The beds are very comfy. Would I stay again, unfortunately not. I think £450 for two rooms for one night in a sub standard hotel is excessive and there are probably nicer places to stay.

The room we were first allocated was terrible the bed so old dipped in the middle Frayed curtains Stained carpets furniture chipped bathroom tired enamel peeling off bath so moved to another similar room no views either Then moved to another a suite slightly better but dated and tired definitely not 5 star as stated The only saving grace was the Arkle restaurant which was excellent service excellent and food to die for amazing

Lovely immaculate hotel with excellent staff

Wonderful door staff, courteous and friendly but completely underwhelmed by my stay. My room was very tired (much like me after my stay) and not to the standard of comfort I expected. I didn’t sleep well at all due to the mini earthquakes every time someone’s door banged closed. The mattress was clearly badly worn and was uneven, causing backache. The standard of cleanliness wasn’t great, there was a hair in the bath and behind the door hadn’t been cleaned. I noticed similar issues in public areas near the lifts (third floor). Breakfast is continental (I don’t recall this being stated on my booking) and milk in the room has to be requested). When showed to my table in the Brasserie I was told where I couldn’t sit and the table hadn’t been cleaned (cup mark). Received drinks after 10 minutes by which time my breakfast had arrived). When I questioned I was informed they’re made behind the bar. I reported my issues to Reception on my departure, suitable but insincere apology provided (surprised expression) and note placed on my account should I wish to stay in future. I was held partially responsible as I requested a ‘quiet’ room (which are apparently the ones not refurbished). Suffice to say I won’t be returning. I didn’t pay the cheapest rate I’ve seen so expected so much more. Not a 5* hotel.

The main hotel, bars, restaurants and communal areas were lovely. However for what is a five star hotel the room we had was a deluxe room and just felt very tired. The ventilation intake in the reception area was coming away from the ceiling, some of the doors and skirting boards had chip marks on them. There was some pastas left on the floor behind the hall way door that was missed from the previous guest. Also the bath looked as though it had been painted at some point and there were several areas on the bath where, what looked like paint, had come away exposing the original colour underneath. Other than that all of the staff were very welcoming and very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us and all the other areas of the hotel were very nice

The Chester Grosvenor is an extremely comfortable and conveniently situated hotel right in the centre of the city. The staff members we met were all pleasant and helpful, our room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, as well as being attractive. We would certainly choose to stay at the Grosvenor again, should we be returning to Chester.

Very nice decor, lovely staff, but the aur condition from the room next doir kept me awake for a long time , i low droning nosie. ( we didnt have our air con on)

Great hotel for a city stay. Attentive staff, quiet and comfortable rooms & great location for all the sites of Chester.

Luxurious stay with an amazing central location for those happy to walk around the city center. Absolutely top notch service, everyone was friendly and helpful. Delightful cocktails and food from La Brasserie. My only gripes are the shower enclosure wasn’t long enough so water got everywhere and flooded the bathroom on multiple occasions - and the pillows, as is standard in luxury hotels it would seem, provide almost no support and are all fluff. Had to supplement with decorative cushions so I didn’t feel I was lying completely flat. They could do with some renovation - though spotless, the interior in part felt a bit dated and musty but that’s a very very minor detail here tbh. Overall I’d say 9/10 and would 1000% sty here again. Had a great experience

disappointed that couldn't open windows in room - which was too hot 24.5* and unable to reduce it. also looking thru' window an unsightly towel was lying on the roof; should have been removed.

The windows in the room overlooked a corrugated roof, not the best view, which is maybe why the outer window panes where filthy as it may have been difficult to clean them. The bathroom sink taps seemed a little loose.

We stayed here because we needed a centrally located hotel, and you can’t knock the location. However, the rooms are not soundproofed so the noise from bars and clubs around the hotel are very prevalent. The cost of the hotel was so far out of line with what the experience was. The staff in reception and the restaurant were fab, 10/10. But the room was average, the breakfast was also average - even the upgrade for cooked options was expensive when you saw what was actually served. The room had some Elemis items in which was a nice touch, but there was no hand wash. And when ordering a bacon sandwich on room service, for £10 I thought it was pretty poor and could have got better quality bread if I’d gone to a supermarket. Overall if location is your key, this is great but you will absolutely pay for it. We paid £275 and it should have been at least £100 cheaper for the experience we had.

Lovely hotel, lovely suite, friendly staff. Room was clean, room 402. Very spacious, but temperature was a little difficult to regulate. Bathroom also very cold, but it was a lovely room and we would most definitely stay agan.

The hotel room was excellent and the location very good. The issue I had was on checking out. We were charged for drinks in La Brasserie from the night before. We didn't visit La Brasserie and dined out in a local restaurant before returning to the room. We explained this to the receptionist and the items were removed. On returning home I received an email from the hotel requesting payments for the drinks, as another room stated we agreed to split the charge? We travelled on our own. I had to ring the hotel to explain a second time that we dined out and I had the credit card details (time, date and venue) to prove this. It looks like this hotel is a place were anybody can put a false room number down to avoid paying, with no checks in place. First time I've encountered this with a hotel. I didn't think it would be from the Grosvenor in Chester.

Very average service… the whole stay fell massively short of expectations unfortunately. The room was either too hot or too cold, the unit very loud and couldn’t be switched off. No attention was paid to the “do not disturb” on 3 consecutive days. There was an incident at the hotel which caused great disturbance very late at night but there was zero recognition, acknowledgement or apology!

This hotel is in a great location however the hotel needs maintenance. The rooms need to be updated and the staff is in need of training. The service is subpar in comparison to other high end hotels.

Superb service from the moment we arrived at the front door to the moment we left. A very classy operation!

With 5-star hotels there's an expectation of quality and attention to detail or, where things do go awry, they are sorted quickly, efficiently, and not repeated, This hotel fell way short of the mark on all of these criteria on our three-night mid-week break. Where expectations were not met: 1) Disposition of the front-desk staff. Morose and unwelcoming - it wouldn't hurt them to crack a smile or say "good morning"; 2) Our room keys stopped working on two consecutive days. Apparently they'd been set up incorrectly on check-in. Once was a mistake. Twice was inept; 3) We had to ask for milk, tea-bags, water to be replenished - not done as part of room servicing; 4) We had to ask, at 3pm, for our room to be serviced; 5) We were billed for the continental breakfast despite inclusion in the room rate. It was deducted from the final bill but shouldn’t have been on there anyhow - told it's a "system thing". 6) For a much-advertised mid-week break why is the spa routinely closed on two weekdays. Where expectations were met or exceeded: 7) Exceptional door and restaurant staff - friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Perhaps they could train the front-desk staff. 8) Location - great for city sight-seeing; 9) Quality of continental breakfast; 10) Most of the spa facilities A school report might shorten this to "must try harder" or "careless, could do better" or. Or both. As it stands, the Grosvenor doesn't deserve 5 stars, either in a review or as a hotel.

Another fantastic stay at the Chester Grosvener Hotel. From the friendly and welcoming people at the reception through to the wonderful breakfast staff and the always helpful housekeeping staff, this was a 5 star experience.

Well situated although difficult to drive to unless you’ve booked a concierge service to drive through bollards to get to front of hotel then park your car in a multi storey for you. Room comfortable but on arrival no soap to wash hands and toilet handle didn’t work. Bar in evening for a late drink comfortable and staff attentive. However, breakfast was a shambles it took an hour and a half to serve yoghurt and fruit, cooked English breakfast and coffee. Our order was lost, toast had to be ordered three times before it arrives, cooked food arrived late so toast & coffee stone cold had to be reordered. Quite stressful almost having to beg staff to get our breakfast items. This despite the fact the restaurant was only half full and seemingly with plenty of staff. Not what we were used to in previous visits. The hotel gave the impression of being rather down at heel and scruffy, staff trying but not very focused and the doorman/concierge actually turned his back to the entrance doors despite seeing us getting out of our taxi. I met the Customer Relations Manager before leaving to express my sadness and disappointment with our experience this time. She listened carefully, was charming and apologised, didn’t charge us for breakfast and gave us her card so she could make sure our next visit was better.

Really close to the centre of town. Like many large hotels it is a long walk to your room. We had a lovely view of a car park.

As the property was right in the centre of Chester, everything was within easy walking distance. The staff were friendly and polite, and resolved some minor issues with our room quickly and efficiently. We had an "executive" room, which was well worth the extra money, being a lot larger than standard, with a sofa and 2 chairs in the seating area. Parking was very easy, being in the attached multi storey shopping centre carpark (£10 for 24 hrs), accessing directly into the hotel. As there was quite a bit of rain about in our visit, the covered upper walkways that the main streets in Chester have proved a god send, as these are accessed directly from the hotel, so saved us getting wet whilst still walking around the town. All in all, the hotel fitted our brief perfectly, not being "too posh" so would recommend staying there to anyone

Great central hotel.

This really is a lovely hotel. The staff cannot do enough for you. The car park access is easy and you are in reception in less than 2 minutes. We stayed on a Friday night and were disturbed by the late night revellers in the street. But this is not the fault of the hotel.

Another wonderful stay at the Grosvenor. Very helpful staff throughout our visit. Sublime Suite. Fantastic breakfast and the most delicious meal in the Arkle restaurant.

Can not fault this hotel at all. The staff are very helpful and friendly. As for the food in Arkle what can I say OMG it was the best experience as not only delicious food and wine pairings but it was a three hour theatrical event.

Great 2 night stay at this hotel. Started with a complementary upgrade to a deluxe room. Great size - clean and fresh while maintaining the classic period looks and feel. Breakfast was excellent (I recommend the kippers). Staff all attentive and pleasant - nothing too much for them. We had dinner at the bistro, and while it was very nice, it was pretty pricey for what it was. Especially as there are plenty of excellent restaurants around town providing the same quality of food at a fraction of the price. This was the only negative of our stay. The hotel is positioned in the centre of the old city. A prime location to see the bulk of what Chester has to offer. One thing we liked was that we were never far away and could pop in for a 10/20 minute rest when required. I'd certainly recommend spending the little bit extra for what this hotel offers. We hope to be back soon. First class.

Lovely comfortable room excellent breakfast and dinner. I have put 4 stars for service because the serving of breakfast was a little slow even on one quieter morning. However the staff were excellent in their delivery and friendliness

Chester Grosvenor is a truly 5-star luxury hotel property. The exceptional level of service and hospitality are of the highest level and expectation for a hotel of this caliber. The restaurants and bars are also exceptional. The Brasserie was a lovely place for a fine dinner and Arkle, in particular, one of the most exquisitely rpepared and curated tasting menus with wine pairings I have had the pleasure of experiencing (being an experienced world traveler). The Arkle Sommelier, Boris, was exceptional. I recommend Chester Grosvenor, which is so conveniently in the center of ancient Chester, with the highest confidence.

Stunning hotel with very friendly staff who were always professional. A great stay and lovely facilities- the only issue was the breakfast which for a 5* hotel is limited and I am not happy having to pay extra for a hot breakfast- in my opinion it should be standard at this level of hotel. Otherwise the perfect stay. Special mention to the doorman who seems to be a bit of a legend in Chester and is incredibly welcoming and friendly to all passers by.
