Hotel Lunata - 5th Avenue

The hotel is located on 5th avenue which makes it accessible to restaurants, transportation, and the beach. You can hear the nightlife from the room but being tired from the day the music doesn't really matter when you want to rest. The hotel staff are lovely and are good at answering questions. They make sure you are having a wonderful stay. There's also a complementary breakfast from 8am-10am that includes toast, cereal, and coffee. They also provide beach towels that you can use for the day. The hotel is really beautiful and would stay there again.

We had a great stay. Very nice hotel in the middle of a extremely busy street. Makes you feel like you are staying somewhere else. Very nice cozzy rooms and polite staff. Easy access to taxis and bus station. Short walk to the beach. They provide beach towels which is nice. We would stay again.

Here is the real deal on this hotel. I stayed here 2 weeks in June 2024. It can be a 0 star to 5 star depending on your situation. First, the rooms are quaint with unique Mexican design and decoration. The AC runs super well and keeps you very cool. The provided drinkable water coolers and personal water pitchers is a necessary and welcomed touch. My kids and wife loved the 2 king beds we had, but I felt like it was too hard. The location is the reason I gave the hotel 2 stars. Rooms can overlook Quinta Street which is where the main action in in PDC. This provides lots of fun and constant people watching opportunities, but it also provide constant noise. The noise in the hotel room is CONSTANT. Music plays all day from the Mexican restaurant next door...it starts a little after 7am and goes well into the night. I never noticed when it actually stops because ~11pm the nightclub a couple doors down the street begins and its extremely loud speakers drown out any other noise. This music plays nonstop until 3am. The bass is so loud you can literally feel it in the mattress. If this is the scene you are looking for, where you can walk 50 feet and be in a happening night club, have a bunch of drinks, and stumble back easily to pass out in your hotel room, this is a 5/5 rating. If you want any chance of getting a peaceful night's rest, this is a 0/5. The staff is SUPER nice. Don't be a cheapass and make sure to tip the housekeeping. They do a great job. No pool. No parking.

A delightful little spot right on 5th Avenue. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Beautiful rooms and courtyard in the back. They even had an adorable cat that hung out on the grounds. A few things to note: 1) since it's on 5th avenue, expect quite a bit of noise until late hours. There was also construction being done next door while I was there. 2) It's all stairs. No elevator. If you can't handle walking 1-3 flights of stairs, this spot is not for you. 3) No ceiling fans. Not crucial but it would have helped with the heat. Overall, a lovely place. Exceptional staff,

Very nice place in the centre of the 5th Ave., Too bad it didn't have a pool though after a full day in the sun and sand it would be nice to sit in the pool. Breakfast could of been better. Overall, the hotel was very nicely decorated and very clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would stay again!

Es un hotel que es colonial y esta muy cómodo, el único problema que tuve es que no tiene elevador para que lo tomen en cuenta y nos toco subir hasta el 3er piso con un calor infernal!! Pero el personal es muy amable y la habitación es confortable, además esta sobre la quinta avenida la ubicación es privilegiada!!

The only thing that’s missing is a swimming pool.

Beautiful property and loved the staff. This little place sits right on 5th Ave so everything is at your disposal. Only downside is, no parking in this pedestrian area (we left our car around the corner) & sometimes depending on the room you get, you can hear the outside fiestas (although this didn’t keep me from sleeping lol) I would go back!!

This property is very cute and cozy. We loved the boutique style and the fact that its in close proximity to the beach, shops and restaurants. It would have been even better if there was a pool haha but nonetheless. It was a great location.

This boutique hotel was very cute and we were happy with our stay. The staffs were very helpful and attentive, and the hotel was chill despite it being located in the middle of the busy area. That said, We had to carry our luggage one freight up, and as we were exhausted after a week long travel in other areas, we hoped someone from the hotel could help us with our luggage. Same when we were leaving. We also had a rental car, and did not receive any information on the parking or driving instructions, so we were a bit surprised that we could not drive to the front of the hotel. we had to carry luggage for a few blocks, which was not a big issue as we only had 2 luggage, but it was not super convenient. Personally I preferred to end our vacation with a little more secluded/ quiet area, so probably chose wrong city to stay before coming back to NYC. as the area is in the middle of the busiest area in Playa Del Carmen, we heard dance music and people shouting till late (not too bad, but still could hear).

This hotel is located in a great area, right in the middle of 5th Avenue, which allows you to walk to many places like restaurants shops etc. Staff members were very nice and actually started conversations several times which made me feel very welcome. They offered cleaning service. However, it wasn't always done even when I expressed my desire to receive the service or utilized the Sin 4 the door. They offer a basic breakfast which is great for when you have to leave for a tour right after. This place may not be for those who are looking for a quiet hotel. Since it's located right in the middle of a very busy street. You will definitely find a lot of noise until late hours. You have several clubs and bars around that operate past midnight. Great if you like night life but not the best if you want to mostly rest. Overall, this is a great option that has a great location and offers very cozy rooms!

AMAZING. I (18F) and my friend (18F) traveled to Playa Del Carmen from March 31 to April 5, and we stayed at Hotel Lunata from April 1 to April 5. We had our apprehensions about staying in Cancun because of safety concerns as young travelers. However, at Hotel Lunata, we felt so safe. The staff truly cared about our experience. They recommended a safe bank to go so we wouldn’t get scammed, and allowed us to drop our key off at the front desk every time we left the hotel. This ensured we would not lose the key and could go to the beach without worrying it would be stolen. And we were given free towels for the beach as well. Every night at 11pm, they close the gate to Hotel Lunata so it feels even safer. The rooms were so clean, and the shower was so cute. We also had a street view which was a fun time. There was also a safe where we left our passports and other valuables, and clean, cold drinking water on every floor. I only went to the complimentary breakfast once, but the toast, jam, cereal, and coffee served was all absolutely delicious. Safety aside, the actual hotel itself was gorgeous and affordable and just a walk away from the beach. It honestly felt magical. And there are so many good restaurants nearby which were decently affordable. Overall, our experience was 10x better because of the caring staff at Hotel Lunata, and if we ever come back to Playa del Carmen, I refuse to stay anywhere else. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Hotel Lunata was for me the perfect place to stay in Playa del Carmen. It is a modest sized hotel located in the heart of Playa with beautifully appointed theme rooms some of which overlook the town's main shopping thoroughfare (Quinta Ave) and a backyard area and patio that is pleasing and peaceful. As a solo traveler I found my room to be plenty big, impeccably clean and well maintained and attractive. Plus, the air conditioning worked wonderfully. The room was also reasonably quiet despite the noise produced by the many restaurants and night clubs located nearby. Kudos, too, to Nikita, the front desk host who was so helpful in recommending things to do and places to visit and making all the arrangements for these activities as well. Her assistance was invaluable and she made my stay in Playa so much more enjoyable. I will definitely stay at Hotel Lunata on my next trip to Playa and I would encourage you to do the same. You won't be disappointed.

We had a fantastic stay! It's a true oasis away from a very noisy street. They've done incredibly well in sound proofing with double sliding balcony doors cutting it out. The decor is beautiful, the beds were so comfortable, the staff were beyond helpful and kind. Only poor point was the very lacklustre included breakfast. It's white bread next to a toaster with packet butters and jams that have melted from the heat. There's also 3 cereals and some coffee. It's fine if you need your stomach to not be empty, but I'd recommend going to Choux Choux Cafe for the best breakfast in town!

We had a great experience staying at this hotel. It’s a small (10 room) Hacienda style hotel. It’s very colorful and vibrant and the rooms are so nice and well kept. The bed was a little too hard but the overall experience was great. We stayed facing the garden which is better due to the noise at night coming from Avenida Quinta. The locations is perfect on the Main Street where you walk out to shopping , dining or quick beach trip that is a 3 minute walk. Lots to see and do. Hotel employees arel very nice and friendly and happy to recommend and book any tours for you. I would recommend and would stay there again.

Small boutique hotel with pleasant ppl working there. I was looking for a place to crash…as I’m active on vacations. I would say the TV not working was the only negative. AC was fantastic. Small breakfast, but I don’t eat breakfast. If you want loads of extras, try the Hilton. This was just a cute place to crash at night. Btw, if u like centrally located, yet still quiet at night, this is it.

Overall I loved my stay. It did get loud, but my room looked onto 5th Avenue. Just bring ear plugs...life saver! Very friendly staff, beautiful little courtyard, and conveniently located. I would stay here again!

The hotel is charming and well appointed. Super clean. Unfortunately it is noisy - as it is on 5th avenue... Also, although I was assured the windows are double paneled, the doors and windows do shake, and you can hear all noise :( great place if you need to stay close to the bus or ferry station! Not for light sleepers.

We have stayed here several times and it has always been wonderful. Nice clean rooms with amazing local traditional decor. Excellent location, close to everything.

Avoid This Hotel at All Costs – Outrageous Makeup Fee?! I’ve stayed at many hotels all over the world, but never have I encountered such an appalling, money-grabbing policy as the one at this place. If you dare to use a towel to wipe your face, expect to be hit with an additional fee. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they’re charging for something so basic and common. I never just wipe my face and leave the whole towel full of makeup without rinsing it with soap, so it’s easier to clean. All it needed was to be laundry like every other hotel does. Get black towels if you’re going to penalize your guest for using them, and don’t know how to properly wash!!! This is what happened to me, no telling what else they nickel and dime people on after the fact. To make matters worse, I had an incredibly stressful experience when I returned to the hotel after hours and found myself locked out, with no one in sight. I banged repeatedly on the gate, and called the hotel so many times with no answer. All I thought about was protecting my daughter who I had out there on the curb and thought I had to book another hotel for the night despite us not having any luggage just to get us off the street. Finally I screamed once again bloody murder into the gate, and someone showed up. I was fighting tears. But guess what, I never mentioned it the next day to the staff because I consider myself a nice person and I didn’t want the night employee to get in trouble. But to now be hit with this fee!!!

This property was absolutely beautiful. The staff was courteous and went beyond to suggest restaurants and places to shop off 5th Avenue. The morning breakfast on their outside patio was peaceful and lovely. Michele was a wonderful resource. We were only there one night but would love to stay longer the next trip.

We felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Michelle and her husband were wonderful. Our room was very spacious and the hotel’s hand carved stone entrance and aesthetics are divine. Their tip on where to park made check in very easy. Breakfast was great value and served in the pretty garden at the rear of the property. The hotel is right on Avenida Cinco but Michelle gave us a local Mexican restaurant to try away from the tourist strip and it was excellent.

Outstanding service, Nikita when above and beyond to better service us, Carlos was an amazing help also. The whole staff really cares about making you feel at home. I will stay at this place again.

On 5th Ave which is a busy and a lively street.The interiors are devoted to mexican tradition with mix of colors. At the reception 'Michele' waited late for my checkin and helped communicate to the parking folks due to language barrier. She also helped for any information related to beaches, restaurant and tourist spots.Carmen at the kitchen helped with the snacks even after the breakfast hours. Big shout out to Mariana and Fidel for taking good care with room service and baggage handling. The room has a good bed, shower with hot water. Safety/Security is 10/10. Easy to stroll around the 5th Ave, walk to nearby beach, have drinks, deserts like marquesitas, fresh juices etc. Cons: My room was located facing the 5th Ave so the noise in night is there till 3am. If you are light sleeper then would recommend to book room facing the garden.

Situated in the midst of 5th avenue restaurants and vendors, this hotel is a quiet oasis just 2 blocks from the beach.

Everything was great except for the noise which is expected due to its centric location. Maybe the rooms with view to the garden had less noise but ours with view to 5th avenue was really loud.

Hotel muito bem localizado. Na quinta avenida, ficamos num quarto com vista jardim. O barulho nao nos incomodou. Quarto grande, cama confortavel, atendimento simpatico. Restaurantes, bares, Wallmart tudo muito proximo. ADO tambem a uma pequena caminhada. Recomendo

Hotel Lunata is excellent. It is right on 5th Ave, and there is great stuff around each direction you walk. Hotel is in a relatively quiet section. The loudest bars are further up 5th Ave. The hotel was perfectly clean and our room was beautiful! The service was great. They answered all questions and called our taxi when we left. Will definitely stay again if I come back to Play del Carmen.

Great location. Close to all amenities and walking distance to the beach. I would have like to see more breakfast variety side from coffee, toast and jam. Overall stay very good.

Stayed 2 nites before going to Cozumel for 2 weeks then another 2 nites before flying home to Canada. Rooms were very nice. There was a garden area to have complimentary toast and coffee in the morning or a breakfast for a charge. The staff were amazing. Thanks to Michelle, Eban, Nikita, Mariana and Carlos. We enjoyed our short stay and would recommend staying here.
