Hakone Hotel

This is a lovely hotel with an amazing view and close to the pirate ship and bus if you plan to do the Hakone loop. The room we had was a good size and had a beautiful lakefront view. The hotel also has a bar and restaurant with an amazing view as well but it is very overpriced. The happy hour had a couple of random drinks and beer on it but no food. The unfortunate part is that there aren’t many other options around so you feel a bit trapped and taken advantage of. The restaurant is huge but requires a reservation be made and it must be done no later than 5pm which seemed silly as the night we were there, only a single table was occupied and it was only 1 person! The price for the entrees were outrageous- so we wouldn’t have eaten there in any event. An average entree was $90 and up from there. Wine we ordered in the bar was $23 per glass. We don’t have a problem paying that although there was only 1 type of wine to choose from. I would recommend the hotel due to the beautiful location and view but they need to improve their offering at the bar and restaurant. Staff at the bar could also be more attentive as they spent more time polishing the glasses then serving people.

The place is amazing. Big room, high ceilings. Great view! On the negative side elevator doesn’t go to the 2nd floor rooms.

The hotel is impressive, very well maintained in common areas. There is a very nice lounge with great views. The location is phenomenal, you can see the pirate ships moving about the lake. The room was very spacious and had an amazing view. The on-site public onsen also had a great view. Note that if you do not get dinner on the property most restaurants in Hakone closed at 4pm it seemed (assuming guests are staying at a Ryokan?).

スイートの部屋は広くアメニティ等も満足だが、バリアフリーではない。なぜか2階だけはエレベーターで行けず、階段のみの利用です。その他にも至るところに階段があるため、ベビーカーや車椅子のお客様には不便であると言わざるを得ない。かと言ってホテルマンが手伝ってくれる訳でもない点が残念でした。 ホテルから歩いてすぐに海賊船の乗り場があり、移動にはとても便利だった。

It was a great location, and we were able to see the lake and the very top of Mt. Fuji. The hotel was very clean and well looked after. Staff are very polite too! One downside was that the hotel design didn’t take the hot spring baths into account. The baths were very small and did not offer lake views, which made the experience less enjoyable given the potential views we could have had.

Booked 2 nights at this “great” hotel, only to find there’s no shuttle from the nearest train station. Instead, I endured a cramped 2-hour bus ride to get there. Upon arrival at 14:00, I wasn’t allowed early check-in. Dining options? Hotel restaurants charging $120 per person or nearby spots that only take cash and close at 16:00. Need an ATM? You’re directed to a 7/11 that’s 2 km away—enjoy the walk, or wait for a $1.50 bus each way. The famed baths—allegedly the hotel’s crown jewel—are small and underwhelming. For $260 a night plus an onsen tax, you’d expect large baths with outdoor options, maybe a cold pool or sauna. Reality? Two baths: one tiny with two hot tubs and another slightly better one with jets and an open-air tub. They alternate between men and women in the morning and evening, so you don’t get to choose. The property itself feels like it peaked 40 years ago—lots of wood and bronze—but luxury is more than hardwood floors and marble columns. It’s about service, and here it’s sorely lacking. Guests must hand in their keys when leaving and retrieve them on return, which can take 2–15 minutes depending on staff. Yes, there are plush lounges with stunning Mount Fuji views. But wine? You need to buy a special 500 yen coin to get a measly 60ml from a dispenser. That’s not luxury—it’s a joke. Avoid this place unless you enjoy overpriced mediocrity dressed up as grandeur.

目の前の芦ノ湖の景色や遊覧船が部屋から見えて良かったです。大浴場がありますが、少し小さかったです。しかしホテルに温泉が付いているのは有り難かったので良かったです。ウェルカムドリンクにカクテルが選べるのも嬉しかったです。遊覧船乗り場が目の前にあり、近くにお店も沢山ありますが、ホテル内の鉄板焼がとても美味しかったのでお奨めてす。

Excellent hotel, nice onsen, amazing lakefront setting with mt Fuji views. Highly recommend. Teppenaki dinner was excellent. Reasonably priced for the area…would definitely go back.

The hotel is old. The hot spring is too hot

This hotel has large spacious very clean rooms. The staff are very warm, friendly and helpful. The view of Lake Ashi from our room was amazing. Unfortunately though, the hotel only has a limited and expensive food offering. On the surrounding street, there is no shopping centre and only one or two eateries with very restricted opening hours. I would recommend you have a car if you visit the area for more than a night. The hotel is large but was pretty empty when we were there - It feels like the hotel would do well to re-invent itself to be a little less formal with a wider range of more casual food areas and better use of the outdoor areas.

Valgte hotellet pga. beliggenhed. Fik i beskidt værelse og efter dialog med receptionen - blev vi flyttet til et andet værelse - en kedelig oplevelse. Den nye værelse var helt perfekt og i en højere standard end det forrige. Vi fik gode dage og fik set alle planlagte aktiviteter - dyrt at spise på hotellet og begrænset udbud af muligheder i nærområdet.

Long distance, poor amenities. Other than the view of Lake Ashi, there is nothing great about this hotel. Dining options are limited. The nearest convenient store is 1.5km away. They didn’t even have a proper power plug to charge phone(lucky they manage to find alternate plug for us. All the power outlet are used. You gotta remove it. The balcony area, horrible. With bird poop and dirt lying… zzzz only one staff can speak better English. Gotta rely on google translate to help us. The area is a dead place after 6pm.

I am very shocked and disappointed with this property, especially since the room's condition resembles a 90's style with 70's facilities. The carpet is stained with coffee drops, and it's dirty, dark, and uncomfortable. They don’t provide body lotion in a $900/night room. I never expected Japan's renowned resort to be like this. The food is not delicious either; the breakfast in particular makes you feel like you don't want to return. Overall, I am very disappointed, and I don’t think it's worth it.

Friendly staff. Room was very clean and spacious. Hotel is right next to the Pirate cruise ship and Tozan Bus Station.

The location of the property is amazing right in front of Lake Ashi. Beautiful views and close to trails and historical areas. The hot spring spa (onsen) are very nice and clean. The hotel itself is old and a bit dated but still worth it.

We loved the old fashioned charm and personal service. The restaurant was fabulous - with fresh linen table cloths even for breakfast. The only reason for my 4 star rating is because the room temperature cannot be controlled and the rooms were unbearably hot at times, making sleeping very difficult.

Beautiful property right on the lake. We booked a lake view room which I recommend. We were on the top floor and loved our view but I’m sure all rooms are similar. The area has restaurants near by, the pier is 5 mins away where you can hop on the boats to tour the lake and also go up on the cable car. There is also the largest souvenir store right next door. We received a welcome drink at the bar and are reservation also included breakfast which was nice. We definitely would recommend this hotel !

Loved the hotel but using the hot water in the bathroom was a problem. A lot of water was wasted before it became warm to have a shower.

Our room had an amazing view. The grounds outside were beautiful and spacious. The room was great but the bathroom is a little dated. Also not many food options at night. We went to the Indian restaurant next door for dinner and it was delicious.

We reserved Junior Suite with a balcony and view of the lake. Our room was spacious and the view was gorgeous. The room was also very spacious and comfortable. Hakone Hotel is walking distance to the Hakone shrine (which is also easily accessible by bus) as well as the Hakone Checkpoint and Onshi-Hakone Park. We highly recommend this hotel!

It had a beautiful view of mt Fuji. The only thing I can say that was bad, would be that we were not able to control the heat. The rooms where very toasty.

Hotel was good, onsen were so relaxing and rooms spacious. Liked the lounge area! Nice views, unfortunately couldn’t see Mount Fuji while we were there. Breakfast yummy and good vegetarian options. The down side was some of the staff weren’t the most helpful and their English was very questionable. All other hotels we’d been to were able to help with luggage forwarding including to airports but we were told very bluntly to go to a post office and that they couldn’t help with getting our suitcases sent to Haneda airport. We ended up wasting over an hour trying to sort this out with the lovely and very patient post office people using google translate to fill all the Japanese forms when the hotel could definitely helped… pretty appalling customer service for a 4* hotel and at the end of the stay left a bad impression. They didn’t even help with our bags to get down their stairs when we left…

Large spacious room with lake views

Enjoyed the stay here. Very quiet in the area in March. Several food establishments were not open or had limited hours. Staff was very friendly and helped me book a side trip.

The location and view are excellent. But the service of the hotel is terrible. They don’t care about the request of clients. The cleaning staff are in their seventies. The number of the staff is very much limited because the hotel cut their cost

Well managed traditional hotel with beautiful surroundings, well placed to explore the sights of the Hakone area. However, the hotel would benefit from some modernisation, for instance aircon in our room could not be individually regulated/turned off. Nevertheless, overall very positive experience in view of friendly staff and excellent dinners.

Front desk was going to charge us again for our child even when my reservations that was prepaid showed 2 adults & 1 child. I had to keep insisting even when I showed our booking included a child.

We were greeted warmly at the door as we emerged from our taxi during a rainstorm. The hot springs were invigorating. The view of Lake Ashi was outstanding. And the location was unbeatable, just steps away from the Lake Ashi ferry.

This is a lovely hotel, albeit a little run down in the bathroom. The views over the lake were spectacular. The bar was extremely expensive as were the restaurants and breakfast. Location was great for what we wanted but the surrounding shops and restaurants were disappointing. Everything was shut from 6pm till 11am. Hotel service was polite and respectful but very slow.

Hakone Hotel is beautiful. I definitely recommend a lake view room because you can see Mt. Fuji from your room on a clear day! The hotel staff were very nice. English friendly for foreigners. The area is quiet. There are a few places to eat in the area and a short bus ride to the next town for more restaurants and convenience store. We didn’t eat at the hotel restaurant but the hotel bar was nice. If you have the hakone free pass, there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel so it is easy to get to.

Great hotel to stay at in a great location, yes hotel was dated and the French breakfast was underwhelming. However its located very close to everything you would want to do in Hakone and its surrounding areas, the customer service was excellent , view amazing, kid friendly, easy parking and overall a great stay at hakone hotel!

Great location & great view of lake Ashi. Osen was enjoyable & nice. Walkable to river cruise. Didn’t like diner and breakfast that much, very small portions and minimal selections.

お部屋のバルコニーでコーヒーを飲みながらリラックス出来ました。 中庭やバルコニーからの景色は富士山や遊覧船などを眺める事が出来て素敵な時間でした。 朝食はメインが選べて種類が豊富 フレンチトースト、オムレツ、カレーをそれぞれ注文しシェアさせてもらいました。 どれも美味しいです。 フレンチトーストは中がふわトロで周りがカリッと香ばしく、何個でも食べれそうでした。 口コミでおススメされていたので注文して大正解でした。

交通方便，门口就有车站，旁边是海盗船的港口，风景绝佳，服务也很出色，周围几乎没有餐馆，所以一定要包晚餐和早餐的选项。晚饭是法餐，味道一般。
