Having been told that the bar was open til 11pm we returned at 10.45 to find it locked up. The bar manager happened to be in reception and kindly served us, we needed to sit in a room separate from the bar. OK, but not what we expected.

Great location for Punting tours on the river & visiting the oldest university colleges and the museum. Bar was closed at 5pm so two glasses of very average Chardonnay cost £30 from the restaurant !!! Great front desk staff.

Free upgrade to a deluxe room and couldn't resist using the roll-top bath! Very helpful reception, including guidance that I could just park on the road outside for free if leaving before 8am rather than paying the £30 fee for a car park a good walk away. Building is a bit of a warren so glad they showed me to my room.

Loved the hotel, very clean and the bed was extra comfy! We were on the top level (attic) so it was a bit cramped but the overall ambience made up for it! The bar was underground and fantastic! We’d defiantly stay there again!

The customer service in this hotel is excellent; it’s a really quirky boutique hotel with nooks and crannies everywhere. The bar in the cellar is great with, once again, excellent service from all of the staff. We will definitely be back.

The hotel is on the face of it a lovely place to stay and, is the main, good. Central location and cool decor. Comfortable beds, helpful staff, nice toiletries and decent food (not a huge selection, but that there is, is good). Closer look and it was a bit grubby, shower looked good but was dirty and a bit mouldy in the corners and the glass join, and the water didn’t drain so flooded over the edges (we spoke to reception twice in 3 days and nothing was done about it). Sink in the bathroom and the floor also just a bit grubby. Could all do with a deep clean. If we had paid less maybe I’d feel less inclined to be picky, but this is not a cheap place to stay.

Lovely comfortable room and the most amazing, professional, and friendly staff. My room was adjacent to an outdoor smoking area. Each time I returned to my room I had to pass though a cloud of smoke. Also, noise from the courtyard woke me up. I realise that it's inconsiderate guests, not the hotel which is at fault but the smoking area is badly situated. Also, beware of hidden charges on room service bills. The room itself was lovely, the rest of the hotel looks a little tired, e.g., frayed carpets on the stairs. Thanks to the person who checked me in and out and the man who brought my room service. Lovely people.

The boiler in our bathroom was so loud it kept us awake all night. Although the mattress was comfortable, the bed frame had seen better days. The whole bed moved everytime you turned over. Room was clean. Food was lovely.

In general the hotel and staff were lovely. There was scaffolding all over the hotel and it would have been good to know this before booking. One of the rooms that we booked looked like it hadn’t been cleaned. There were clothes left in there and the bed looked like it had been slept in.

There was scaffolding covering the front of the hotel which was not mentioned on their website. My first room had vibrations and noise from a kitchen extractor fan. I asked to be moved. The bed was comfortable and the en-suite was very good.

Nice location, but we had not slept at all due to kitchen extractor (so we were informed upon asking for help) somewhere close to our room - incredibly noisy even with earplugs and left us feeling really awful before early flight. It's an old building which can be charming, but you can also hear people slamming doors on your floor like something is exploding. I would not stay again.

On arrival, Entered the bedroom to find a temperature at 30.5 deg C at 6pm. Air con not working and staff had not pre warned us. Housemaids must have known as the windows were all open. Luckily We transferred to another hotel

A great location near to the town centre, but away from the noise and bustle. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. The room was nice. The bed was very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was well stocked with l’occitane toiletries. The only downside was that the room looked out over an air conditioning unit and office buildings, so not much of a view.

It is cool that this is located in such a historic property, and they have thoughtful touches in the rooms (nice soap, old fashioned bath tubs, good quality water in glass bottles). I left my reservation early because I woke up to little bugs biting me in the bed. I’ve never experienced this before. They assured me that these were not bed bugs but advised that I sterilize my traveling things all the same. The windows do not open (for “safety”) and the air/ac does not work so there was no fresh ventilation in the room. The mattress had also settled like the building and was quite uneven in the places where people tend to sleep.

Overall things were ok. The reception area is small and felt disorganised when busy, at times felt like I was an inconvenience to be asking for things - customer service was lacking. The hotel in areas is showing its age, but in the main it met our needs for a short visit. Room itself was comfy, well equipped, clean, everything soft to touch. Breakfast, good range of cooked foods and continental breakfast. Not sure what was going on with the hollandaise sauce with my eggs, more like a bowl of soup with eggs and muffins - very odd. Service was welcoming, full of smiles and all happy to assist. Can’t compare it to other hotels in Cambridge but I think I might try somewhere else on my next visit.

The hotel was fine. The assistant manager was very friendly and kind during check-in. My issue was with the hotel restaurant - The Bistro. There was an aggressive server there (man) and quite rude upon checkout. We had dinner there and he added an extra donation surcharge without even asking and when I asked him why he added it without asking, he got annoyed and aggressive. Why are you adding charges without the customer's knowledge. I thought that was odd. Unfortunately, tt really turned me off to the whole experience. The next morning at breakfast he was there again and he recognized me. The man has an attitude for no good reason and perhaps he was having a bad day, but I cannot recommend that restaurant. The French food is subpar at best and the breakfast that I paid for was also mediocre. On top of that the rude service - no thanks.

Convenient location, clean and rooms a bit dark. I have stayed here before and would again. Sadly when I left today and went to check out I said good morning and was ignored by two staff members more interested in their PC than me and my desire to check out. A sour end to my stay. I guess some people aren't equipped to work in the service industry.

Very comfortable room unique design , well appointed with good amenities, helpful staff and a good location. Avoid Concha y Toro room until works have ceased in courtyard area, otherwise you will get woken up around 8 or 8:30( sadly no advisory on this at time of booking) Also a loose light fitting with wiring showing which had dropped out in wardrobe. Mentioned to staff. Note made. A matter that can easily be resolved. Checkout is at 11:00 and only one person on duty at that point. Long wait as we waited for couple in front to resolve problems and then lady behind us was getting concerned she was going to miss the 11 am deadline for checkout.

Outstanding service ! We arrived early and asked if we could leave our luggage . Csilla Csanyi could not have been more helpful. A real credit to your Company. On our return later to check in again the service we received was top class. It’s rare these days to actually receive such genuine service. We would have no hesitation staying with you again.

Overall things were ok. The reception area is small and felt disorganised when busy, at times felt like I was an inconvenience to be asking for things - customer service was lacking. The hotel in areas is showing its age, but in the main it met our needs for a short visit. Room itself was comfy, well equipped, clean, everything soft to touch. The air conditioning pretty sure wasn’t working in our room, quite warm, other areas in the hotel were more comfortable to be in and cooler. Breakfast, good range of cooked foods and continental breakfast. Not sure what was going on with the hollandaise sauce with my eggs, more like a bowl of soup with eggs and muffins - very odd. Service was welcoming, full of smiles and all happy to assist. Can’t compare it to other hotels in Cambridge but I think I might try somewhere else on my next visit.

I stayed in the Pommery suite. Enjoyed the spaciousness of the room, separate shower & tub. Breakfast was included and was decent. Primarily stayed here for the proximity to the Fitzwilliam Museum. Unbeatable location. Would stay here again.

Really nice room in old building. Bed very comfortable. Staff exceptionally friendly. Breakfast menu had a good choice of options and food was delicious. Would definitely stay again if visiting Cambridge.

Stair carpet looked like it needed vacuuming. Shower didn’t work and took a bit too long to arrange for us to go to the top of the hotel to shower before returning to room. Meant we were last into breakfast and could not regain that time for our mini break. Breakfast was not buffet and things on display were very limited and not appetising. Juices were concentrated (carton) rather than fresh and bread for toast was supermarket packaged sliced white and brown. For £22 a head, that is not acceptable. Not really what we would expect from such an expensive hotel. Others in the area are much better value. Disappointed as had wanted to stay here for a while.

The hotel is in a good location, very walkable to the popular sights. The bed was very comfortable. Lovely L'Occitane products in the bathroom. I ordered room service and although the food was very tasty it was only lukewarm. It arrived from the kitchen with no covers over the plates.

The hotel was fine. The assistant manager was very friendly and kind during check-in. My issue was with the hotel restaurant - The Bistro. There was an aggressive server there (man) and quite rude upon checkout. We had dinner there and he added an extra donation surcharge without even asking and when I asked him why he added it without asking, he got annoyed and aggressive. Why are you adding charges without the customer's knowledge. I thought that was odd. Unfortunately, tt really turned me off to the whole experience. The next morning at breakfast he was there again and he recognized me. The man has an attitude for no good reason and perhaps he was having a bad day, but I cannot recommend that restaurant. The French food is subpar at best and the breakfast that I paid for was also mediocre. On top of that the rude service - no thanks.

Comfortable and nice atmosphere. Bar staff were very friendly and welcoming. Bedroom was lovely but a couple of housekeeping issues and on the last morning the cold water stopped working. We didn't have breakfast as we were short on time and it cost £24. It would have been nice to have a cheaper continental option for those in a rush.

As always, the staff were courteous and helpful, the room was immaculate, great shower, comfortable bed. They don’t advertise well that they have a bar, but I thoroughly recommend it as well as the bistro.
