A well maintained hotel in a good location except that the lift wasn’t working which was inconvenient. The room was rather smaller than we would have expected. They don’t offer marmalade at breakfast - bizarre! The basin taps were strange and didn’t work well. We had to get someone to fix one of the taps as it wouldn’t turn off.

The room was clean and of a high standard. There was a comfortable lounge, a terrace and conservatory, but on one day these were closed to hotel residents due to a private function. Hotel guests should be able to use the facilities they have paid for, or at least be informed that facilities will be closed during their stay, and be compensated accordingly.

Bedroom was tiny (3rd floor) and lift was not working. Bed was uncomfortable too. Have stayed in other Malmaisons in the past and they were much much better.

Friendly staff, excellent breakfast, and gorgeous architecture (the conservatory and lounge is a must-see haven. The room on the other hand, leaves something to be desired considering its status as a four-star accommodation. The air conditioner makes a terrible noise when running, the switch to one of the bedside lamps is broken, the sink is tiny in a huge bathroom with zero counter space, and soundproofing is next to non-existent (the neighbouring guest's cellphone vibration/alarm can be heard going off at 5am). Parking lot is easily filled, you may have to find street parking further away (make sure to offload your luggage first before doing so). Overall still a very pleasant stay, but it's the missing little details that made the four-star rating a bit lackluster

I’ve stayed in other Malmaison hotels and this one is definitely the poor relation in every regard. It’s very tired, shabby and run down. There are signs of lack of maintenance everywhere one looks. Parking is a real challenge (small number of onsite spaces) and very expensive. A warning to overseas visitors, dogs are allowed in the hotel and rooms, quite a shock if you aren’t used to this and with that comes the inevitable barking and yapping.

This hotel is a curate’s egg, sometimes good, sometime rotten. The good - staff excellent and helpful, rooms very comfortable and clean, public areas great and electric car chargers in the garage. The rotten - most time no hot water in our room 119 ( we asked three times and we think it is a problem for that room), no lift working for 2 days, I left my breakfast as over easy eggs were rock hard and finally never saw my invoice on leaving as there was problems with the system ( still dont know how much I have paid!) We will not be back!

Nice staff, underground parking very awkward and not really suitable for a large car. Beds weren’t the best as the mattress dipped in the middle, the sink in the bathroom was slow to drain. But other than that it was a good stay with nice staff, good breakfast, nice hotel in a nice location.

Disappointed, luxury room but not clean, curtains didnt fit the windows , no TV remote, room 219, elevator broken, shame, was really looking forward to this stay. When i told the staff there were other guest complaining.

Our room still had all hair from the previous guests and the sink still had toothpaste in it! The hotel is tired and overall not clean. The carpets on the stairs were disgusting. Would not book again. Location not great.

Great hotel and good location for easy walk into the town, local restaurants and bars within easy reach. Clean hotel undergoing some exterior improvements but not in a bad condition and unobtrusive too. Comfy room with all you need

Everyone person met on reception was great. Polite, helpful and efficient. The young girl in bar was miserable and took over 10 minutes to bring round a glass of Prosecco and a gin. The gin should have been a double but was only 1 ½. She did only charge us for a single. The room - I had to ask for someone to go and clean behind the toilet door. There was a ball of hair in the corner. That was done while we were out. The shower had a small leak and continually ran water straight down the drain! The lighting - ok for the evening but when I was trying to put make-up on - no decent lighting! The toilets down stairs - so dark - strange! So sorry to say but will not be using your hotel next year

Really, it's a 3.5/5 Bed comfy. Breakfast great, as was the server. Room (112) had a stain on the ceiling. Half the light switches did nothing. Room far too dark. The whole system is batty, pop some labels or explanations up. Bathroom sink was blocked. Bathroom door handle very difficult to use, stiff, slippery & worn. All of these are simple, minor glitches but indicative of poor attention to detail. Don't charge high prices and position yourself as premium if you don't hold yourself to high standards. Pretty disappointing, felt a bit contemptuous TBH.

I felt like I was sleeping in the corridor. Bed so close to the door every passer by could be heard. Noise above woke me up at 4am as taking a shower and then heavy stomping continued. Very close to busy roads, so again noisy and with air conditioning that didn’t work properly it made for a hot night! Pillows and bed extremely uncomfortable. Sheets didn’t fit bed properly. Very dark bathrooms and limited toiletries. Grubby stairs and main areas. Overall an expensive experience for a poor nights sleep. Will not be revisiting.

Absolutely horrific stay . The room was very tired and had multiple things wrong with it. There was a wedding on so the noise was horrific. The terraced area outside was dirty and gross. The whole hotel looks like it could do with an upgrade. Not worth the money paid. Night manager was not helpful and was smerking at me when we complained about the noise level. There didn't seem to be adequate staff for drinks and service was slow .

Great Boutique style Hotel. We stayed in the spacious signature suite. The room was clean but bed was not great. Shower was fantastic but sink tap flow of water was very poor ( no pressure). Hotel overall is looking a bit tired. Walls and floors could do with a re paint and polish. Staff excellent and breakfast very good.

Overall, a very good stay. The communal areas were stylish and comfortable, the breakfast was very good (although £23 per head) and the room was large and had a lovely seating area in a bay window. The shower was really great - strong and hot! The location was also fabulous. A few small negatives that could be improved easily: 1) No tea or kettle in the rooms, just a coffee machine. Meant I couldn't sit and enjoy a cup of tea in the room in the mornings. 2) The bathroom was very dark and there were no shelves or places to put anything. A little cupboard or shelf under or next to the sink would've been useful. 3) The mirror above the desk - when you sit in the chair, the mirror is too high to see yourself in, so it's no use at all!

Rooms in need of investment. Upgraded on arrival from cosy to superior. Room was large, maybe too large, very high ceilings and air con on full on arrival meant it was very cold. Furniture was damaged (armchair looks like a dog has attacked it) and the units looked like they were from from an old office. Lighting was appalling, 3 tiny bedside spotlights and a large main light which couldn’t dim, meant we couldn’t make the room cosy at all. Was seriously missing proper free standing lamps. Nowhere for my wife to do her makeup other than a random pull up mirror without lighting in the side unit. Bathroom was adequate, but putting a shower against an uncovered window meant all the paint was coming off. Hotel was super quiet in bar and restaurant even on a Saturday , and to be honest the hotel looks like there’s been a spending cap, or may be on its last legs. Reception team were lovely though.

This was our second stay at the Malmaison Cheltenham. It is a great location as in close proximity to Cheltenham - shops, restaurants etc. However, we stayed in a bigger room last time (club?) but this wasn’t available this trip. We stayed in a standard double which was compact with the same colour scheme and furniture, bathroom fittings as the other. The only criticisms being how dark the room and bathroom were - dark tiles added to this and the temperature of the room. It was very hot!!! Too hot for comfort. The window only opened slightly and access to the veranda/ balcony closed off so this was the only window and it afforded no ventilation. The air conditioning was ineffective so it made for an uncomfortable stay. Breakfast was as good as we remembered and fantastic quality. The price this time was top rate - I used some Expedia credit towards it which saved over £100 on the night’s stay. It would have been closer to £400 full price so higher end and not worth that for the room we got. Would not opt for the standard room again at this particular Malmaison in the future!

Nice Hotel, ate in the restaurant and the food was good. Let down by reception on arrival as I was left standing for a good five minutes before anyone showed up at the desk, also, don't leave anything in the room if you ever want to see it again...I left an expensive t shirt in the room and called up /e mailed to ask for it to be put to one side, but it couldn't be found...Not to difficult unless you have dishonest housekeepers!

Lovely hotel, friendly staff. Given an upgrade for my birthday which was lovely and very generous. Plug points were very well hidden, maybe a little sign pointing them out would be useful. Great drinks and food offers but not well advertised in the room, we would have been enticed back had we known, there should be information in the room about these.

This is a nice hotel, well placed in a quiet quarter, and close to the shops and eateries of the town, It was clean and the bedroom of a good size. Only complaint was the breakfast where the service was slow and the staff "sullen" (the rest were very helpful and pleasant). The Americano coffee, out of a machine, was pretty tasteless.

Probably teh worst experience in 20 years of global travelling. I arrived at the hotel and waited for an hour, and they gave my room away to someone else and left me with no room. I eventually found a replacement at 12:30am, at a cost of £400.... Completely incompetent staff and service levels. Do not waste your time.

Couldn’t get a hot cup of tea for breakfast, water was in a pump jug and definitely not boiling. Drain in the sink made horrendous noises when our neighbouring rooms showered and poor lighting in bedrooms.

room and facilities ,staff were really helpful,location perfect,quiet. The lighting was poor both in breakfast room and my bedroom (function more important than mood!). Cooked breakfasts good but continental means cheese,cold meats and a variety of breads not packets of cereals and toasts. Will stay again though-thank you.

My main gripe with Malmaison is that I’ve stayed at many of the Malmaison hotels all over the UK many times and nobody has ever once said “nice to see you again” - they seem to have no CRM whatsoever, which is annoying. However they are reliably clean and comfortable. Breakfast is pretty standard good quality but no good for healthy vegan food. Cofffee is awful and I was charged £5 for a coffee from a machine. Overall I do really like Malmaison - just a few little tweaks would make them so much better.
