The check-in team was friendly and helpful. The room was fine for a one-night stay. We had our dog with us, and the hotel was very dog-friendly. Parking at the back of the hotel was limited, and we were unable to find a space. We were able to park on the main road outside of the hotel for free as it was a Sunday, running into the bank holiday. Otherwise, parking would need to be paid. The location was good for bars, restaurants, etc.

Stay was good, the location is excellent and the cleanliness of the room was also very good. My only criticism is the lack of car parking facilities at the hotel about 6 spaces at the front and the same at the rear, other than that the public car park opposite is the alternative which is an added cost.

Our second time in this hotel, this time on the top floor. Not suitable for disabled due to number of stairs and no lift but not an issue for us. Lush shower, way comfy bed, quiet on a friday night and ideally situated. Perfect for our requirements

Lovely building and rooms, so had a very comfortable stay. Short walk into town so a good location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only downside is steep stairs to carry bags and no bar. Lounge was just the breakfast room. So more of a B&B than a hotel but very nice but would have been better to have a bar and some food.

Really nice overnight stay at The George (room only). Good sized room, great bathroom & shower & good amenities. Big perk is the free on-site parking (although understandably limited and first come first served). There’s less “frills” here compared to other hotels in Cheltenham, but they’ve nailed the basics on comfort and style for a decent price. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel was lovely and of a good standard for what we paid and situated in the perfect location. Staff were welcoming and helpful. We had a quiet rear room, which was quite small. However, it was sufficient for two nights stay. It offered some nice touches, such as cocktail glasses and a good selection of condements. There was no bar onsite however, they did have a 24 hour pantry which offered a small selection of snacks, drinks etc. The hotel is dog friendly, they do charge per night for your dog to stay which we did find a little steep. As part of this cost they provided a dog bed bowl and the one goodie box. Overall it was a lovely stay and we would return.

Very helpful staff. Rooms in excellent condition and very clean. Doesn’t have a bar, but plenty of pubs a short walk away. Plenty of parking in public open air car park opposite. Free parking between 18:00 and 08:00. Full English breakfast was one of the best!

The staff are lovely at The George as always. Friendly reception and help with any questions. It was a shame all the free car parking was taken up but understand it is first come first served. Also, the water bottle had lip stick on but the chap changed it for me quickly. Good location to town too.

breakfast n/a as didn't stay for that, parking was OK, but didn't feel very safe. Room incredibly disappointing, shower needed a good clean, room overall was in an OK condition but lots of areas that could have been better, a tear in the carpet was dangerous, a strange noise from the bathroom all night plus shouting, doors slamming and lots of noise all night. Noise from the road was also an issue, but appreciate there's a limit on what can be done due to no secondary glazing/listed frontage.

This is a nice hotel is an interesting old building. The location is good as it’s close to the town but the immediate area isn’t the smartest for Cheltenham. The room was generally clean although there was hair on the wall in the shower! The disappointment was the breakfast area - it’s cramped and dingy in the basement! We were told breakfast was £17 when checking in and then when we went to breakfast we were told £12 for just cold and then around £15 extra for cooked breakfast! £27 for a hotel breakfast in this type of hotel is mad! We went to Boston Tea Party 5 mins away instead.

This hotel is looking tired and needs some love; paint coming away, toilet seats that don’t fit and the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly - someone’s comb had been left behind. It is quiet though at the back of the hotel although glad we stayed at a weekend as scaffolding platform was right outside our window so weekdays wonder what we’d wake up to. Didn’t spend too much time in the hotel. Found our room too small and dark. It was by the back door so we could have our curtains open. Too much clutter on the dressing table and nowhere to put toiletries etc. fan in bathroom would not go off.

Fine, friendly, liked the inclusive treats (jelly beans, limoncello). Would have preferred a higher room than the basement. Curtains open means those in car park could see directly in, at least have some frosting. Otherwise good though!

Stay was lovely the receptionist on shift for our stay was amazing. The hotel was lovely and overall we had a great stay the only downside for us was there was no lift and we got lost in the hotel a couple of times. Other guests were rather loud so we were disturbed through the night and the bed although lovely was not to our comfort and the room needed a couple of touch ups as some paint was peeling on the walls.

This hotel is perfectly located in the outbound of the town centre, the rooms are really nice and very well decorated. The shower is great, lots of nice features. Air con in the room was needed as the room got very warm, however it went off in the night and I couldn’t get it back on. Booked again for later in the year

Terrible stay all round. 1/ Rooms are not soundproofed at all - constant banging, screaming and crying from a child in a room above us that stopped at 1030pm, started at 430am and then continued thru to 630am and beyond. 2/ Room advertised as superior king however its two single beds pushed together without a mattress protector to cover both. Wouldn’t have booked if I’d have known this. 3/ There’s a two inch gap under the door which meant that we could hear everything and everyone in the hallway and reception as well as giving us the over powering smell of breakfast at 6am which permeated through everything. 4/ Road noise was pretty bad throughout. 5/ Air conditioning needs a service as it sounded like a loose or squeaky wheel or bearing which lasted the duration of our stay. All round this stay proved you just need to stick to chains (Marriot/Hilton etc) as the amount paid and the service offered were just not up to par with the brand name competition.

This is a nice hotel in a great location. Stayed two nights. Very quiet and comfortable night’s sleep. Our only criticism is that there was no room to store clothes/belongings apart from a very narrow wardrobe. No drawers or shelves to put things on so other than hanging a couple of shirts everything else had to stay in the case. There was a small foldaway luggage rack to put your case on but this was fairly inadequate for even a small weekend case. A small drawer/shelf unit would have solved the problem. We would stay again though for one or two nights.

We received a warm welcome on arrival. As soon as the hotel staff saw I had come with my elderly mother, they helped to give us convenient rooms and floors, for our ease. Many thanks to the staff. The hotel is well located, yet it was quiet at night.

Really disappointed. Check in man was very rude. We had booked the same room and the same way as our friends checking in at the same time but the man on reception insisted we pay a security deposit and was very rude about it but didn't ask the same of our friends. No explanation why. Room was on the main stairwell so passing noise regular. Hoping for a nice lie in but we were woken at just before 8am by the fire alarm going off (we hadn't got in until 2am). Terrible stay and wouldn't recommend

This is the second time I have stayed at the George and it remains one of my favourite hotels ever. It is superbly situated in Cheltenham, the rooms very comfortable, and the staff extraordinarily helpful. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

My partner and I had a brilliant 2-night stay at The George. Having just recovered from surgery on her wrist, I mentioned this, and a need for additionsl pillows, as a special request and everything from The George - from response time to accomodation - was five star. Breakfast (both continental and a la carte) was one of the best we've had and the bed was one of the comfiest. We were only here for two nights for a wedding but wish we could have stayed longer. Would definitely recommend ataying at The George! Also, use of the nearby CLC swimming pool was super easy and straightforward. Thanks to everyone at The George for a great stay.

We had a short one night stay in Cheltenham, we were given a beautiful large room facing the road in front of the building. We could park our car streight in front of the building. Staff was very friendly. Town centre, shopping, bars and restaurants just 5 min away.

The George is in a great location for the city centre and was modern, clean and very comfortable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

This is a great place to stay in Cheltenham. A short walk from most places but far enough away to be peaceful. The staff were all lovely and the room was large and airy. The dark painted walls may bother some people but we got used to it.

Really lovely hotel for the price. We paid to have the hot breakfast one day unfortunately it wasnt great however the continental selection was brilliant when included in the price. Really lovely location to use as a base for exploring Cheltenham and the Cotswolds

The food in the diner is INCREDIBLE...the service at the front desk awesome. We even had an incident where the door locked in the bathroom and the night front desk came to change out the door handle! Excellent, dog-friendly, place ....note there is NO LIFT...our dog can't do stairs so we were carrying our dogs, our bags and ourselves up several flights of stairs

This is a nice hotel is an interesting old building. The location is good as it’s close to the town but the immediate area isn’t the smartest for Cheltenham. The room was generally clean although there was hair on the wall in the shower! The disappointment was the breakfast area - it’s cramped and dingy in the basement! We were told breakfast was £17 when checking in and then when we went to breakfast we were told £12 for just cold and then around £15 extra for cooked breakfast! £27 for a hotel breakfast in this type of hotel is mad! We went to Boston Tea Party 5 mins away instead.

Very good, was able to check in late, hotel was very well decorated, very clean and comfy bed. Breakfast was excellent and staff were very good. Only quirk is it’s a strange layout and can be tricky to find your way around

Nice hotel in a good location but needs some love. The rooms were stylish but needed some maintenance including painting and the shower dripped constantly. Staff on reception were super lovely. Breakfast was average for the price and breakfast service was slow and aloof.

Very helpful staff. Rooms in excellent condition and very clean. Doesn’t have a bar, but plenty of pubs a short walk away. Plenty of parking in public open air car park opposite. Free parking between 18:00 and 08:00. Full English breakfast was one of the best!

The hotel is lovely but the £15 for breakfast is a joke. The continental breakfast is a few stale looking pastries, cereal, juices and machine coffee. I complained that it was a rip off and I was offered a free cooked breakfast, but I would not pay £15 or recommend someone else paid that. Save the money and eat breakfast elsewhere. A major letdown for a lovely hotel
