Stayed 1 night

Three issues made my stay not as pleasant as it could be: 1) A rule has been introduced that children must have id on them to prove they are not being human trafficked. This was not communicated clearly to me on booking. This led to a distressing experience where I had to essentially argue my kids were mine! I said I had travelled two hours to London so can’t just nip off and get id for them, only then to be asked do they have child Oyster cards - no I don’t we don’t live in London! My kids are neurodiverse and this was horrible for all of us to go through which included multiple phone calls by the receptionist to her managers. I understand the rule but please spell this out clearly upon booking! 2) I was in the bathroom and my son says someone has knocked on the door. I come out to find a workman coming into the room with two cans of paint. He says he has been sent to decorate the room! I complain to reception to be told the hotel has a policy that staff can come into the room any time as long as they knock 3 times. But if you are in the shower and don’t hear it I could have walked out into my room to find a painter at work! I was then asked by reception if the room can be painted when I leave the room! I said no as I don’t want to sleep in paint fumes but was made to feel I was being silly. 3) Breakfast is not on site, it’s at Bella Italia restaurant and again this wasn’t clear on booking. My neurodiverse kids can’t eat out easily so we paid the money but couldn’t go.

Stayed 1 night

This hotel is valuable for its adjacency to Paddington station, to which the Heathrow Express arrives and from which departs. It is literally next door. We use it for the last night before transatlantic flights to make the travel day less stressful. Hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was tiny but clean and serviceable with effective air conditioning, essential during heat waves. Our room was on the second (UK) floor and shortly after we checked in to the room, the one elevator broke down. This made it difficult for one of us as he had a knee injury and two flights of stairs were challenging. Staff were happy to take the heavy luggage down to street level, but it took longer than expected. Just bad luck, but it's unfortunate for a hotel to be dependent on a single elevator in hot weather.
