Reykjavik Residence Apartment Hotel

The hotel is part of a 8-9 different apartment/hotels in the area. The check-in hotel was different hotel to the one we actually stayed. There was email communications before we arrived informing the check-in process (however we didn't read the details) hence we still went to the check-in counter and bypassed the 'quick check-in' option available. Totally our own fault. The room was exactly per the photos, very clean and warm. We loved the balcony which was super neat. The double bathrooms (for the 2 bedroom apt) we stayed was the winner as most 2 bedroom apartments we stayed in Iceland only have 1 bathroom. Would highly recommend this place for anyone interested.

This hotel has room in several buildings, spread out around several blocks. They advertised a bar in the hotel. They did not explain on the web site description that that the bar was several blocks away from the reception desk and it was well hidden. It woudl be good to have a map of the layout of the buildings, rooms available in each building, which building has a "functioning" hot tub and which building is closest to the bar. When we checked in they were very nice and said our room was not ready but could drop off our bags and they call us when it was ready. That was very handy. Too bad they did not explain that the hot tub was not working or that that the bar was several blocks away or that we get a 15% discount. We had a very nice apartment with a full small kitchen. The street in front of the building where the reception desk is located is still on a torn up street (as of August 2025), making the walk to the reception desk pretty difficult. When we requested more TP, extra towel, and an extra pillow they were delivered promptly. Even though we chose to re-use our towels, they still changed them and kept the extra towel. This was a very nice place and located in a fun district, but it as very expensive and a bit convoluted to find some of the the amenities. Too bad the roof top hot tub was not working. In retrospect, we should have asked for a discount. Thanks to the reviews on Hotels.com we knew we were in for a bit of walk to the reception desk and to park in Zone 3.

Hotel do not have parking

This hotel is clean and the rooms are very big but I didn’t like that the buildings are separated from the lobby and there are no amenities. It was very quiet though and close to many sites and shops

Be aware this hotel is a collection of small downtown buildings with low staff overhead. The reception is in another building blocks away. Payment, check-in, and building/room key are automated using an app you have to download to your smartphone. There is no parking, no on-site staff, and no one to help with luggage. Despite the listing of an elevator as an amenity, there was no elevator in our building. Other features included poor sound insulation between rooms and a bathtub/shower a man of ordinary height can’t stand up in and a short person has difficulty getting into and out of. Our room did have a very compact kitchenette wall with small appliances, and L’Occitaine bath items. The extra cost breakfast included excellent fresh bread delivered to the door and a variety of other items placed in the refrigerator the previous day. Fruit was an apple. The description should more accurately convey the nature of this property and the limited staffing and assistance available. It should not claim amenities like an elevator if most of the buildings don’t have elevators.

The room itself was terrific and in a convenient location for getting about the city. However, it should be noted that the street in front of the lobby and check-in building is completely destroyed for repair. This means your drop off or check-in requires you to push your luggage up hill on the opposite side of the street (as the side they are on has several patches of gravel — luggage won’t roll through it) to the next block then back down again. It’s a bit off work. The. On check-in, when we asked for luggage assistance we were told they have no one. Overall a good stay, just kind of inconvenient if you have a lot of heavy bags.

New spacious facilities built to be self sufficient apartments in a series of buildings. A few minor issues to work out (only because they are new) but overall, a great stay. Worth noting that tours cannot pick up at the facility because of very local traffic restrictions.

The hotel has a group of buildings in central Reykjavik. We stayed in a studio in the Primeminister’s old house. Very well located. Flybys from airport went to central Bus Station and the Minibus to bus stop 14. The property (21) was a 200m walk away. The collections museum is one building away. Parking was easy when visited. P2 and P3 parking behind the property, with a multi-storey P2 opposite. The studio was well equipped, clean and convenient. Breakfast baskets were delivered in the afternoon and fresh bread left on door handle at 8am. We recommend this hotel to anyone.

Helpful and friendly staff. Good laundry facilities on site.

I liked that it was newly remodeled. They filled our coffee pods each day. The staff was nice, and they had our bread delivered on time every morning. I wish they would have had the Hot tubs filled on the terrace.

The only staff we were in contact with was housekeeping and every interaction with them, they were very rude. The toilet had fecal matter on the outside of the toilet bowl.

This place was large, spacious, well furnished, clean, and in a great location within walking distance of downtown. Highly recommend. The dryer didn't really dry clothes well, but that did not hamper our experience.

Bedsheet was kind of dirty. Bathroom and sink too small to use.

Reykjavik Residence Hotel was so clean, comfortable, and gracious. It was everything we were looking for! We were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast brought each morning and by the water pressure in the rain shower.

The hotel has several buildings spread over a large area that makes it hard to know in advance how far things will be. An example is if you book pick up for tours or Flybus. There are three pick up locations close depending on where your room is. My review of the hotel would have been excellent except our room was in the Tannery right over the courtyard/entrance to the wine bar. It was noisy and it is the smoking area for the bar. You have to close the windows to keep the smoke out and it is then warm and stuffy. One night there was a large party in the courtyard and it was impossible to keep the smoke out even with everything closed. I would recommend requesting a room away from the wine bar when making a reservation.

Room was clean, area was safe. Room was close to everything but far enough away to be quiet.

Cons: I'm surprised that we got a room located in the basement of the building and the room is next to the street. There's a strong smell of mold in the room. Unfortunately, the hotel is fully booked so we can't change room and they offered a 10% discount. Pros: the room is very practical with a kitchen and everything you need to cook for a small meal on a trip. The bed mattress is comfortable. I also like the breakfast sourdough, which is freshly baked from the popular bakery in the city.

Great location and comfy beds. Prompt responses to my questions all the time. Not a deal breaker but bathroom has a small sink that’s not well positioned. Would prefer a way to contain water from shower away from toilet. Would stay again despite these drawbacks.

Stayed in a 3 bedroom unit. Very clean and well appointed. Great location

The people in charge were nice but the bathroom drains smelled horrible. The blackout curtains only worked in the rooms so whoever stays in the living room on the sofabed has no blackout option so it was hard to sleep. We ran out of toilet paper and it was not refilled so we had to go get our own. The other properties from The Residence Reykjavik looked much nicer than the one we got. Wished they would let you know which “house” you will end up in because I would not have picked that one.

The Junior suite was perfect, nice kitchenette area, dining table, with everything you needed to make a light snacks. Only minor niggle was floorboards creaking above the room but overall excellent and close to the city centre. Oh and lacks a full length mirror for women!

Amazing staff. ALWAYS someone at front desk. Fresh breakfast everyday, with fresh sourdough bread from local bakery. Egill and Constantino were especially helpful. Would ABSOLUTELY stay again:)

We arrived in Reykjavik very early after an overnight flight from Canada. It was dark and rainy when we arrived, and check in wasn’t until late in the day. We grabbed a pastry and a coffee then wandered a bit before going to reception much earlier than we should have. We were greeted warmly and we were told that they would prepare our room as quickly as possible. They suggested that we wander a bit and they would message us when our room was ready so that is what we did. In what seemed like no time, we were contacted to advise that our room was ready and we were allowed to check in much earlier than expected. This was great as it allowed us to settle and rest earlier in the day than would have been possible otherwise, which made our stay in Reykjavík that mulch more pleasant. The hotel was amazing, the reception was amazing and the breakfast, with freshly baked bread delivered in the morning, was amazing. Stop looking around for a hotel, stay here!

Stayed in a 2 bed-2 bath apartment in the old Printing Press Building. The building where the hotel reception desk is located was about 2 blocks from the building we stayed in. Easily walkable via sidewalks w/ suitcases when room was available. Arrived from airport before 9am. Reception stored our bags and we headed out to explore Reykjavik expecting our room around 3pm (check-in time). To our surprise, our room was ready before 1pm! The reception desk staff were excellent, helpful and friendly both at check-in and check-out. They also stored our bags at check-out (11am). We didn't leave for the airport until 1:30pm for our 4:50pm flight. The hotel staff were super helpful and friendly. Can't say that enough! We paid for r/t transportation via the hotel for 4 adults with 4 large suitcases and carry-ons. Everything went like clockwork! We ordered the breakfast basket on the first morning and the last morning. The basket from the first morning was enough that we ate items from it the next two mornings before our tours! Bread was SO GOOD! We had a coffee machine with various coffee pods and hot chocolate that was refilled every day. Used a lot of them and never ran out! Previous posts/photos we reviewed before staying here showed washers/dryers in the apartments. Not in ours... but NOT a problem as free washers/dryers are down on the 1st floor. Hotel is awesome, central to everything, walked everywhere easily! Used Bus Stop 6 for ALL our tours. Short 8-10 min walk to Stop 6!

Excellent service throughout and made our stay one of the best we’ve had. Sebastian at the hotel reception did a great job of recommending and booking our excursions. Highly recommend a stay at this hotel.

This is a fantastic hotel and property. Staff was outstanding! 10 stars would not be enough. In heart of Reykjavík tourist area and near bus stop 14 for excursions. Bonus supermarket close walking distance. They even provided some complimentary milk, juice, cereal. This is the most accommodating hotel I have ever stayed at. I would definitely stay here again and not hesitate to recommend it.

The rooms and hotel were amazing. The only issue was the checkin. We decided to book an extra day of lodging so we had somewhere to go and rest when we arrived at 9am,,,after traveling all night. Upon our arrival a very argumentative young lady at the checkin desk told us we could check in because there was only an hour until we had to check out. We informed them that we booked the room for 4 nights. As it turns out, they had us down for 2 separate bookings, not 4 continuous nights. We understood the confusion and explained we had just traveled 18hr to get there. When we asked if there was anything we could do to rest or set our bags down, we were very told "no".....and it was our fault for not calling them weeks in advance to make sure the 2 bookings back to back under the same name would be linked together. The young woman at the counter continued to argue with us and blame us for the issue and then told us we couldn't even go to the room we had paid for.....because they "would have to clean it". After 40 mins of arguing with staff, they finally let us into a room for 1hr to rest before we were kicked out and then moved to another room hrs later.

The hotel and the location are wonderful. However, the check in process is less than ideal. The reception desk simply watched us wait in the lobby after repeatedly checking the availability of the room, and only at the last minute advised us of the readiness of the room. The hotel room is also a walk away from the main lobby, and no help is offered

I’ll start with the check in staff. They were so kind and helpful when we arrived that it put most of any anxiety we had when we got to the city to rest due to the ease with which they acclimated us into our stay and offered plenty of helpful tips (most notably parking) to navigate Reykjavík. We absolutely adored this property. It was a studio apartment style setup with some comforts of home, most notably the kitchenette set up with sink, dishes, dishwasher, microwave and electric stovetop if you prefer to dine in while visiting. There was a small grocery store right around the corner with mostly anything you’d need to cook in your room or stock up for any adventures that you would be getting into outside of the city. We spent most of our time exploring the island but having a comfortable place to call home when we returned to in the evenings was such a pleasant feeling each day. Thank you so much for everything and we would love to return for a future visit and stay with this property. Keep up the great work!!

Sea and mountains visible from balcony. Everything we wanted was in walking distance. We found a parking space right outside. Great breakfast.

Awesome location & walkable to central Reykjavik shopping & dining, friendly staff (who even gave us an upgraded room - thanks!), the breakfast with warm sourdough bread was great & plenty of food to even pack lunches. We used this as our main base & took day trips & it worked perfectly. Room was modern & spotlessly clean. Beds were super comfy. They are doing construction by the main reception/hotel which was noisy. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone & we had a wonderful stay!

Centered location, dozens of restaurants within 10 min walk. Clean, our room looked brand new. Breakfast package amazing! Close to bus 14 and also bus 9. Hotel staff friendly, i would go back 100%.

Fantastic location in Reykjavik with easy street parking (though you have to pay) and very walkable to the best sites and restaurants in the city.

We loved the location, comfort, and friendly support from staff. The rooms were clean and cozy. The crib for our 22 month old was setup and nicely arranged before our arrival, along with some basic grocery necessities for our family. It was a bit loud in the mornings around 5am due to trash pickups and then around 7am for the kindergarten right next door. The room was super warm; with the radiators completely off it was still 78°F in the room, while it was only 50°F outside. Therefore, with the noise level from outside, we couldn’t keep our windows open to cool the apt down. We were able to secure street parking everyday despite the hotel staff suggestion to do parking garage arrangements, but we are Manhattan residents.

Perfect for traveling with a teen. The breakfast basket was delicious and abundant - enough for breakfast and lunch. They accommodated vegetarian and gluten free diet beautifully - so helpful. Easy walk to shops, restaurants, museums, bus pick ups, and tour starting spots. Laundry available in our building. Very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

The location was fantastic (Prime Ministers Residence) and the accommodation was superb. The breakfast basket was brilliant, brought every afternoon so a nice surprise each day for the next morning and then fresh bread every morning. Honestly faultless service

We had the breakfast included. We didn't know how exactly worked because all the reviews were lacking of details. So, basically in the afternoon they bring you a basket with: 2 hard boil eggs, 2 slices of bread, 2 slices of ham and 4 slices of cheese. Every day they bring different fruits (2 apples, other day 1 banana -us being 2 people-, other day 2 kiwis, other day some grapes, some oranges, ect...). They also bring you nutella, butter, different jams and 2 different flavors yogurts. Every day at 8:00 am, they deliver a sour dough bread and leave it in your door. We were there for a whole week and some days we didn't even open the bag. It was too much bread! They also leave an apple juice and whole milk. There were some tea bags but no coffee nor coffee maker anywhere. So we had to go out every day just to buy coffee. The basket wss great for the first 2 maybe 3 days, but after that it's just boring eating the same food every single day.
