Montcalm Royal London House, London City

A fantastic luxury property in a well connected part of London. The newly refurbished pool, hot tub and gym were superb.

My partner and I stayed at the Montcalm Royal London for a weekend city break. It was a great experience - the staff are very friendly and put a lot of effort in. A special mention for both Daniel the concierge and Cherif the restaurant manager for doing everything possible to ensure we had a top stay. The hotel’s pool and spa facilities are currently out of action whilst they go through an upgrade, but Daniel arranged for a seamless shuttle for us over to the Montcalm East 5 minutes away where we were able to enjoy their facilities. Overall we really enjoyed it and were sad to leave at the end! Looking forward to coming back soon.

Had a lovely stay. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Rooftop bar was incredible. Breakfast buffet was really lovely. Spa facilities were great. The steam room was sadly out of order for the duration of our stay and the gym could benefit from a greater variety of equipment eg free weights. Overall it was a really lovely stay.

Very nice relaxing stay as always. Spa facilities were under maintenance but was able to access the sister site and transport there and back was taken care of by the staff/hotel.

The Montcalm has the potential to be a beautiful hotel but needs updating to match the rooftop bar. The rooms are currently out of date and poorly thought through- fine to sleep in but not somewhere you'd relax in. The spa was very small and overcrowded and the smell of chlorine traveled through the hotel. The service, however, was polite and helpful and the club drinks spot on.

Weekend break in london to see ELO which was unfortunately cancelled. Didnt stop us having great time and staying at the Montcalm made it worthwhile. From the moment we arrived all the staff were so helpful and friendly. A credit to the hotel. Facilities were fantastic and the spa top notch. Rooftop bar had great views and the breakfast very tasty with plenty of choice. Everything almost perfect. Our only complaint would be the bars closing too early. We arrived at 11pm on a saturday night to find it closed. Its nice to have a relaxing drink in nice surroundings after a hectic day in the city so we feel the hotel is missing a trick here

Beautiful hotel, everything about it was so lovely. We booked a double deluxe room for our anniversary and it was decorated with balloons and free chocolates. The bed was topped with a mattress topper which was awfully bumpy and uncomfortable so we had to remove this as we hated it the feeling. Be aware when booking, if you want to use the pool facilities, you have to book a 30 minute space prior to your arrival. We didn’t know this and therefore wasn’t able to use the pool on our day of arrival like we had planned. However a lady called Maria was super helpful and booked us a slot for the next morning and extended our check out so we had enough time. Overall great hotel and great weekend!

Expected more from a 5-star. Entry to lobby, there was works going on and sanding the ceiling with dust falling on us. The room itself was ok, clean, the shower flooded after about 2 mins which was quite bad, walking in a mini pool in hotel shower is never fun. Bedding was good. Gym is lacklustre, barely any equipment, sauna small. Pool was ok again quite small, but well maintained. I wouldn’t stay again to be honest, there are better 4 star hotels.

Check in team were friendly and provided lots of helpful information. The room was very nicely set out but unfortunately was dirty. The towels had marks on them, the bed sheets may not have even been changed as I found multiple hairs on them, and there was stains on two out of the four pillows. We checked in late and needed to get up early so my wife and I could not be bothered to complain that evening; based on how friendly the staff were at check in, I do imagine that had we raised this issue it would have been resolved. I hope this was a one time oversight on the cleaning front because as I previously mentioned, everything else to do with the hotel was well maintained.

The room carpet was terrible dirty on top of that relaxing chair was so dirty and curtain were looking like they never changed since long time in room , 2019 i came it was awesome services and cleanliness was perfect

Location is great, a 5 min walk from Moorgate tubestation and the area is quiet even though its quite central. The staff are really lovely and helpful. However i must say i was a bit disappointed once we checked in. Had to actually change our room as the first we were given was not what i had booked and was also very dirty. The carpet had brown stains, there was splatter on the wall, mirror was dirty and there was hairs on the bed. Complained and got a different room, the manager was super nice about it and the other room was better. All in all the hotel is OK, it's not as mega luxurious as i had thought based on reviews i read. It's a bit dated and old to be honest. The telly kept going dark every two minutes and the system for the light switches stopped working so we had to reset a couple of times which are minor details but still kinda irritating. Want to mention again how great the staff are. Really friendly and couldn't do enough for you.

Good location, seems that property been refurbished. Great staff. Cleanliness could be better, mattress cover had stains (accidentally pulled out the cover while pulling out the duvet as it was tucked in) and it had a big brown stain. Not great.

Really nice hotel. Excellent staff. Great location. Only slight disappointment was the tv in the room, limited channels and the Chromecast didn’t work.

Everything was perfect about the stay, we had a great time. However, during the height of Summer, air con didn't deliver well, and a fan isn't provided in the room, leading to an uncomfortable sleep Other than that, 5 stars

Our stay at the Montcalm Royal London House lasted for a period of two nights, with the arrival being a positive experience and the staff were extremely welcoming. The hotel very modern with very good facilities, and its location is advantageous due to its proximity to nearby transportation options. Unfortunately, our first night in the hotel room was unsatisfactory. The room's air conditioning was not functioning properly, resulting in a temperature of approximately 27 degrees Celsius. This made sleeping difficult, and it further aggravated my partner's pre-existing respiratory condition. The temperature difference between the corridor and our room was significant, with the room feeling stifling and lacking in oxygen. As a result, we endured a night of insufficient sleep, which left us feeling disheartened as we had eagerly anticipated this trip. We reported the issue first thing in the morning and were informed that a maintenance worker would rectify the problem that day. However, no one arrived to fix it. Therefore, we reported the issue again a few hours later, and I explicitly communicated the unbearable temperature and its impact on us. We had a reservation at the rooftop restaurant to celebrate my partner's birthday, but the heat in the room made it unbearable to prepare. We were offered the option to get ready in the spa, as there were no other rooms available. Overall, the hotel has many positives but unfortunately our experience was ruined.

We have a good sized room overlooking Finsbury Square. The room was quiet and comfortable and the breakfast was very good.

The hotel is mostly about its prime central location. Staff was very friendly The room was okay. Bed was comfortable. AC wasn’t workin well and it was warm in London. The shower pressure was low. Breakfast is excellent and is at the top floor with great views.

The room had a small screen on the wall that could not be turned off and it was as bright as a bedside light. The mattress had a very big worn dip and was very uncomfortable. The room also still displayed the covid19 warning stickers. The ourside windows were also filthy with dust and dirt caked across them.

If you’re offered room 904, ask for a change. Your door is right opposite the open stairwell for the Avairy and it’s VERY noisy. You hear all the guests walking passed your room to go and from the Avairy. You hear all the guests congregating in the Avairy both at night and in the mornings. There is a door within your room to shut out the noise but you need to open that door each time you use the bathroom so it feels very uncomfortable hearing all these people outside your room when you’re showering. concierge was a lovely. However, I asked for local knowledge and assistance for travel. He tried to offer us a driver to and from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, stating we’d have to take two or three underground trains to get to the stadium and back, implying it would be a bit of a nightmare. And the offered cost??? £125 EACH WAY!!! £250 total!!!! He said he’d had a lot of guests already ask him the same thing that day and they booked the driver!!! One, who on earth pays that much money?!? Two, why was he not offering car shares then? Felt it was a money making tactic for the hotel! Then we downloaded the app ‘Citymapper’ and it confirmed we could get the Weaver line from Liverpool Street to White Hart Lane. Straight through journey there and back, so simple! Didn’t experience any stress and it cost £4 each way! So if you’re going to a gig from this hotel, there’s your best route. Oh and download Citymapper!!! ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER for visiting London!

room was not ready when i booked in at 3pm messy (potentially dirty) bathmat in bathroom no TV remote - had to request difficult to get hold of concierge, had to ask for room service and they were rude about being the wrong people to contact poor dining experience on terrace noisy visitors at 1.30 am in corridor someone had eaten part of an apple and thrown it down the corridor this was there in the morning requested a slightly later departure and initially refused

Really enjoyed my stay. The room was great and the customer service was absolutely amazing.

Service was amazing at every level. Victor had so much knowledge and was able to steer us in the right direction for food and tours so we could make best use of our time!

The Hotel was overall impressive. The low score for "staff & service" is purely aimed at the experience we had at the Restaurant on the 10th floor. Overlooking that experience i would recommend staying at this hotel to others.

Long queue at reception when I arrived and the slowest check in process o have ever experienced at a hotel! 35 minutes waiting. Won’t be back!

The staff in the hotel are all world class! The manager who checked me in probably gave me the best check in experience I’ve had in the last 25 years! Total professionals and excellent attention to detail.

An exceptional stay from start to finish. Every single staff member acknowledged you with a smile, and a capable “can do” attitude resonated throughout. Room was really spacious, quiet, and well appointed. Beds were extremely comfy Complimentary prosecco on a Saturday afternoon helped too! Will definitely stay again.

Really friendly welcome. Easy to check in. We were sent a bottle of chilled prosecco up to our room to welcome us free of charge! They also upgraded us. Woukd definitely stay here again.

Great location for access to the City of London area

If you plan on bringing a car and thinking you’ll have it valet parked, you’ll be sadly mistaken. The parking lot is a 15 minute ride and a 15 minute walk back to the hotel.

Great - service from reception was brilliant. Beautiful hotel. Underfloor heating and lovely fluffy dressing gowns a nice touch. Bed an pillows very comfortable. Not so great - tried to order a bottle of wine at the bar. It was £36 but they insisted on adding a service charge which made it £56!! I asked for an explanation as to how that was right but he just said that's the charge (bit bizarre). Ordered 2 glasses instead... The tech in the room is impressive to look at but clunky. The room service was difficult to use. Took 8 attempts to order breakfast. Breakfast arrived quick but no salt/pepper. Paid £5 tray charge but then had to pay an additional £6 service charge. So breakfast cost £30 and wasn't amazing (veg breakfast included 2 Linda McCartney sausages I expected something a bit better given the price). Either far too warm or too coldbl in the room and AC very noisy. Headboard was ripped in places.

There was no milk provided in the room. For the breakfast, they forgot my bacon, the beans were very watery and alongside the toast were unfortunately cold. They also forgot my partners coffee. The spa was lovely though.

I judge a hotel by the quality of its room service & I have to say it was very poor, very disappointing for a hotel of this standard. Upon checkout the manager was very apologetic & compensated me but it should not have happened in the first place. I do not see myself staying here again

Lovely stay at The Montcalm. It’s not quite up to scratch as other five star hotels and the buffet breakfast was a little grim but overall a nice place for a night away

Good check in, friendly, room good size modern and clean, bathroom decent size with good shower. Breakfast the best I've had at a hotel.

We were checking in at 3pm to get to our daughters wedding for 4.30pm but we were held up on arrival , having to wait 20 minutes for our room which put us under pressure to get ready and leave the room by 3.45pm . The breakfast was very poor , we met at 10am , there seemed to be a lot of staff wandering around but doing nothing , they did make a table up for 6 people for us but then left us with 5 chairs , 4 lots of cutlery , we had to grab another chair ourselves and ask for cutlery . We then waited 15 minutes for any staff to notice us , we gave up and wandered round the buffet , asking a staff member if we could actually order some drinks . These arrived 15 minutes later rather cold as they had been sat on the bar unnoticed by the staff . The hot buffet had run out of most foods , we had to ask if or when it would be replenished , there then no plates for the hot food or the cold section , no spoons for the yoghurts , once again we had to keep asking . In this standard of hotel and the price being charged these should be simple things that should be checked regularly by the staff . Very disappointed at the poor and lack of organisation .

Great stay, nice room and good facilities however breakfast was a let down. Had to queue 20 mins for breakfast and queue was on a flight of stairs. Never had to queue for brrakfast so long before as a hotel resident. Also, they kept running out of plates and food / drinks. Some of the plates still had food residues on them
